Maxtrans parameter ignored
I am recieving message "The value(30) of maxtrans parameter ignored" When i run export for particular schema. Please tell me the possible cause of this message. Due to this message i am not able to export the user schema. I am using oracle 10g and i 'm doing export with expdp command.

If you search in the docs you will find this paragraph.
MAXTRANS Parameter
In earlier releases, the MAXTRANS parameter determined the maximum number of concurrent update transactions allowed for each data block in the segment. This parameter has been deprecated. Oracle now automatically allows up to 255 concurrent update transactions for any data block, depending on the available space in the block.
So, as it is deprecated it will be ignored.

ThanksFrom 10g onwards, there is no need to set the parameter Maxtrans as Oracle automatically puts the number of slots to 255. If you set a value for this for a segment specifically the message as like is shown , is written in the alert log and the value given is ignored.

In my VS2010 extension, I have just encountered a situation which I can find no workaround for. As always, I went to Carlos Quintero's MZ-Tools first to see if I could find an answer. In this excellent article of his (http://www.mztools.com/articles/2007/mz2007027.aspx),
he discusses how to get "the ProjectItem in the desired view using ProjectItem.Open(viewKind), which returns an EnvDTE.Window object."
This is the behavior I have experienced until I noticed that if a user selects "Open With..." and sets a default external program to open a given item with, I can no longer programmatically open the item in the text editor (this is required
functionality for my extension, since I am not setting the Window to visible, anyway). The screenshot below illustrates my point, even though I am working with my own custom extensions.
In this case, calling ProjectItem.Open with every available ViewKind value will cause Program.cs to open in Notepad rather than the text editor. The Window returned from the Open call is always null in this case.
Is there any way I can force an item to open in the text editor, regardless what its default program/viewer is? Thanks for your help,

Editor guids are stored in the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0_Config\Editors, but since you are only interested in the text editor guid, you are lucky because there is already a constant defined Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSConstants.GUID_TextEditorFactory.
There is also a constant defined for the logical view: Microsoft.VisualStudio.VSConstants.LOGVIEWID.TextView_guid.
So, even if text files are set to open with Notepad, this code should open them in the text editor:

Error while doing an expdp on a large datafile

I have no idea why this happen. is it because DB is ona VM machine?
I remember one time whe I took a snapshot on VM server, grid control services are down for a moment, 4 minutes, WebCache seemed cleaned, this page is gone, after 3 minutes, it comes back.
Anyone has the same issue, please share your experience.

Database Started In Restricted Mode...
Dear Exports,
We are using Oracle 10gR2 on Windows server 2008. My database size is approximately 2tb. Now we are going to setup Dataguard for our primary. We started the database with the changer parameters for dataguard and create spfile from pfile. And started the database with Spfile. But after some time i noticed that the database started automatically in Restricted mode. As in our database Previously dataguard was configured, due to the some problem that setup is not working and the logs are not applied in Standby server. I thought may be for this reason database going to restricted mode automatically so i set the log_archive_dest_state_2='DEFFER' and Now I scanned the whore alert.log file and found the same situation of restricted is happening from Jan 2010. Please Suggest some solution how i can over come the problem.

I have a problem using the DBMS_DATAPUMP package ;
I have just created on procedure that lunch one job and put the dmp file into an oracle directory ; the procedure works fine until yesterday and sadly strange today the procedure does'nt work and i have this oracle message :
ORA-31626: job does not exist
I dont' know how to do since i have not changed the procedure !!!

DB nonresponsive with ORA-12514 after weeks of running fine
I have seen many prior users complain about getting ORA-12514 after a reboot after installation, and looking at the suggestions, I couldn't find anything addressed a situation where the whole system works for a long period of time and then stops working.
I have a working APEX installation that I can access over the web from remote clients
I have a working JDBC connection that I can use from several remote clients.
After several weeks/months of happily running, I no longer can access the apex website, and I can no longer access the db through the JDBC connection getting:
ORA-12514, TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect
descriptor
The Connection descriptor used by the client was:
//###.###.###.###:1521/XE
Going to look at Windows services, both OracleServiceXE and OracleXETNSListener are still running. To try and recover, I do the following:
* Stop the db and start the db. (Which simply stops OracleServiceXE, and then starts both it and the listener)
Doesn't fix it
* Thinking that the listener might be the problem, I then stop the db, and also manually stop the listener. I then start both of the services
Doesn't fix it
* I reboot the computer
Fixes it.
What is different about rebooting the computer that could possibly fix this? Also, someone had suggested in another thread to look at the listener log in db_1/network/admin/listener.log. I don't know what db_1 is, but I have a oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN directory that does not have this log. If anyone has any insight into what this is, or what log I should look at to identify it, I would be greatly appreciative.

Ah, the alert log, that is a useful find. For those who don't know, you can find where the alert log is stored by doing the following:
select value from v$parameter where name = 'background_dump_dest';
I looked at the alert log, and i think it indicates that the process is running out of memory. Since it can run for a very long time without this, I'm assuming it's some kind of memory leak. Especially since I think the less I develop pages with APEX, the longer the system goes between crashing (That is only anecdotal). I looked at the .trc files that it spit out as well, but they seem to have internal stack traces and dumps. Where do I go from here? Is this something I post to an Oracle bug list? Very large bdump file sizes, how to solve?
Hi gurus,
I currently always find my disk space is not enough, after checking, it is the oraclexe/admin/bdump, there's currently 3.2G for it, my database is very small, only holding datas of 10mb.
It didn't happen before, only currently.
I don't know why it happened, I have deleted some old files in that folder, but today I found it is still very large compare to my database.
I am running an apex application with xe, the applcaitions works well, we didn't see anything wrong, but only the bdump file very big.
any tip to solve this? thanks

Dbms_logstdby.instantiate_table error
Hi,
I'm getting the following error when trying to re-instantiate a table in a logical standby database:

it seems that when you instantiate a table this way, oracle creates a Datapump import job with the default name 'SYS_IMPORT_TABLE_NN' where NN is a number between 00 and 99. When I checked the dba_datapump_jobs table, there were 100 entries for import jobs, all with a state of NOT RUNNING and number 00 - 99. When I tried to attach to one of these using impdp, the session closes saying the job completed successfully. Is this a bug? If so does anyone know of a fix for this, or can I just delete the old entries from dba_datapump_jobs?Thanks! the package is valid but this worked:

Data pump export full RAC database in window single DB by network_link
Hi Experts,
I have a window 32 bit 10.2 database.
I try to export a full rac database (350G some version with window DB) in window single database by dblink.
exp syntax as

I created a dblink with fixed instance3. It was working for two day and display message as

If it is, I would think you would need to do that. If not, then I would think it would be the space. You were in the process of exporting data when the job failed which is what I would have expected. Basically, DataPump want to export each table consistent to itself. Let's say that one of your tables is partitioned and it has a large partition and a smaller partition. DataPump attempts to export the larger partiitons first and it remembers the scn for that partition. When the smaller partitions are exported, it will use the scn to get the data from that partition as it would have looked like if it exported the data when the first partiiton was used. If you don't have partitioned tables, then do you know if some of the tables in the export job (I know it's full so that includes just about all of them) are having data added to them or removed from them? I can't think of anything else that would need undo while exporting data.
