I just need to know what a Method's signature is... I know that it is the combination of the method's name along with the number and types of the parameters (and their order) but can someone give me an example?

Not in <= 1.4 it can't. Could you provide some documentation about how this will work in 1.5?Yes it can. Otherwise the prototypes for generics wouldn't have worked.
Suppose we have public class X
    public Object method()
        return null;
public class Y extends X
    public String method()
        return "Hello, world";
}The compiler inserts into Y.class a method with signature method()Ljava/lang/Object; which simply calls the method method()Ljava/lang/String; and returns its return value.
