MDS Connection Database Question

Hi there,
My team is currently using Oracle BPM Suite to share process models and simulations between analysts (we are not doing any development work). We are currently using the BPM MDS connection internally to manage versions between Composer and JDeveloper (we build the models in Composer, where they are centrally stored, and run simulations in JDeveloper). One concern we have before setting this connection up for other external team members is that the database password is needed to set-up the configuration (we would have to manually set up the configuration for other users so that we don't have to give out the password) and once it is set-up the user seems to have access to the database through the IDE Connection.
Is the MDS set up to only be used by those with database access, making it a concern to set it up for a large amount of analysts who are only responsible for creating models (and we don't want them to have access to the database)? Or is this not a security concern to set up the connection for other analysts?
Thanks!
Joe

@nclow - I will work on trying the Factory Pattern for this over the weekend and post when I finish to see what you think.
@abillconsl - just to make sure I understand, you're saying that I just try to connect and it will cycle through the different database connection possibilities and connect when it finds the right one? If it fails all 3, log an appropriate message. One question I have about this is, I thought I was being object oriented by separating the different types of db connections (Oracle, SQL Server, MySql) into different classes. Am I missing the point of OOP by what I was/am trying to accomplish? Going overboard? Also, does your way try and connect to all 3 even if I connected to one already?
Thx, Grantarchy

  • Can not create Database-based MDS connection

    Hello Dear Oracle Support,
I am trying to use MDS to share some common dvm files. First step, I want to create a database based MDS connection but failed.
My SOA schema is JDEV_SOAINFRA. When I test my Database based MDS connection, I got ORA-01031: insufficient privileges. What privileges I need to grand to MDS schema?
I am using JDEV_MDS as username to establish MDS connection.
Thank you for any suggestion and/or information,
    Alena Li

    Hello Alena!
If you want to wait the answer from Oracle Support here.. you'll need a lot of patience.
Is the corresponded Database Connection test succeed?
If it also fails that, I think, your JDEV_MDS user (schema) lack of the CONNECT privilege.
A question to you - how did you created this schema?
You should use RCU to create the schemes  for SOA Suite (and other Oracle Middleware).
The RCU creates the schemes with all necessary structures (tables) and grants.
    Hope this helps,
    Oleg

  • Cannot create SOA-MDS connection for JDBC driver issue

I am unable to create a SOA-MDS connection in JDeveloper 11.1.1.6. We are using MS SQL Server database and have put the sqljdbc4.jar file into a library in our JDeveloper environments. We can use this to sucessfully create database connections.
However, when we attempt to configure a SOA-MDS connection which uses our DEV_MDS connection (which uses the com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver successfully), we do not see anything in the drop down list for 'Select MDS partition'.
While looking at the Messages, log, we're getting:
WARNING: Error reading db partitions for connection DEV_MDS. Reason: MDS-0003: error connecting to the database
Error during pool creation in Universal Connection Pool Manager MBean
    ...ClassNotFoundException: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerXADataSource
I opened our sqljdbc4.jar file and see both the SQLServerXADataSource.class and SQLServerDriver.class files in there.
So why can JDeveloper load one of them but not the other at runtime? Do I need to add the sqljdbc4.jar to a second location (besides a custom Library) in order for the Universal Connection Pool Manager MBean to load it via JDeveloper?
    Please advise,
    Michael
NOTE: I can manually query the database and see 'soa-infra', 'owsm' and 'obpm' partitions just fine.

    Hi,
Do you use MS SQL Server as your MDS database? Did you create an MDS in it using RCU?
When you created the database connection in JDeveloper could you test it succesfully? Can you connect to it with the Database Navigator?

  • Better way to connect database in MVC

    Hi,
    Iam doing ASP.net MVC application.
i am connecting database instance through controller, models i am using just to process the data and give data structure to view.
I red some articles it saying "controller is just act like interface between model and view, all other process and database connections has to be part of model"
Now my confusion is why i am  using controller to connect DB.
which approach is make me to follow better coding standards, connecting DB through model or controller ?

  • IView Connection database

    Hi,
I am new and I have a problem trying to connect a Oracle (even a MySql) database.
Here is th process I have used:
         - <u>Creating new System</u>
But I have problem about Distributed Query Engine (DQE).
I don't know what to put in these parameters : user /password.
         - <u>Creating a System Alias</u>
         - <u>Making Connections tests</u>
Nothing happen with "Connection Test for Connectors"
Error appears with "Connection Test Throught DQE"
So I think my problem comes from DQE parameter but I am not sure that there is no other problem:
Is someone knom all task to do to connect database ?
    (in term of <b>connector</b>, <b>system</b>, <b>alias</b>, <b>DQE</b> .....)
    Can someone help me ?
    Thanks,
    Fabien

    Hi Vaishali,
    Thanks for your response.
I have done what you said except the last task.
In fact, in user management, I put : user, admin.
But In  "User Administration", I can't make any user mapping.
That what I explain, to Gesche :
When I try to make a user mapping, I get a exception:
    Portal Runtime Error
<i>An exception occurred while processing a request for :
    iView : pcd:portal_content/administrator/super_admin/super_admin_role/com.sap.portal.user_administration/com.sap.portal.user_mapping/com.sap.portal.userMappingAdmin/com.sap.portal.userMappingAdmin
    Component Name : com.sap.portal.usermanagement.admin.UserMappingAdmin
The exception was logged. Inform your system administrator..
    Exception id: 10:57_10/06/05_0008_1355550
See the details for the exception ID in the log file</i>
I am going to see log file to get explaination ...
Just another question about the driver you enter in Connector parameter :
Is there something else to do (for example, declare datasource for it in visual administrator) or declare it here is enough ?
    Thanks a lot,
    Fabien

  • Failed to open the connection - database vendor code 17

I'm upgrading a VB.net Windows Forms application from 1.1 to 4.0.  In the reporting form, the list of reports you can choose are pulled from a folder where the .rpt files reside.  Once the user chooses a report and executes it, vb code populates the current database connection information and displays the report in the report viewer control.
    The following things are true:
    - Version 1.1 works on my systems and my customers systems
    - The code has not been changed, except that it now targets .Net 4.0 instead of 1.1
    - The exact same .rpt files are being used
    - Version 4.0 connects to the same database my customer is using, and I can run the reports just fine from here.
    - Version 4.0 is able to connect to the database just fine from my customers systems (using the same connection information provided to the report)
    - My customer installed this:  http://downloads.businessobjects.com/akdlm/cr4vs2010/CRforVS_redist_install_32bit_13_0_2.zip
The only problem is that my customer encounters this error when trying to run any report from his systems:
    Failed to open the connection.
    Details:  Database Vendor Code: 17
    Failed to open the connection.
    Orders.BOL.TaskDetail {393C9017-0ED1-4E1E-8824-E222F4B9D14C}.rpt
    Details:  Database Vendor Code: 17
I read all of the articles I could find, and they either don't describe this exact situation, or there is insufficient information for troubleshooting this issue.  Are there steps that I've missed to make Crystal Reports for VS2010 work on my customer's systems?
    Your help is appreciated,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
    More information required -
    - Does this happen with all reports or few?
    - What is the connection type used for the report to connect to the database (OLEDB,ODBC etc)
    - Are you changing the database at runtime?
    few things you could check
    - Check if the database is accaessible from the client machine with proper permissions / rights.
    - If its an ODBC connection check if the DSN with same name is created on the client machine.
    - Check the driver / provided used by the report to connect to the DB, verify that the same is installed on the client machine. (SQL NAtive client, SQL Server etc)
Also take a look at below articles discussing the simillar issue.

  • How to delete a record in a connected database?

We are encountering a problem using the delete function for removing a record in a connected database table. The database is an excel-file and we are able to add a new record, update existing records but not delete records. We are using the following script in FormCalc since I read that the function does not work in JavaScript:
    $sourceSet.DataConnection.delete()
    The error message returned is:

We are also curious to know how we can reload the connection so that for example a drop-down list containing values from each record in the table is updated automatically when we insert a new record.

Once you've done this, you can call the function from any event on any object on your form with the following JavaScript:<br /><pre>ScriptObject.LoadDropDownList(&lt;SOM expression for drop down list&gt;);</pre><br />If you were calling this function on an "add record" button's Click event, the drop down list was named "DropDown" and both objects were in the same subform, you would do this:<br /><pre>ScriptObject.LoadDropDownList(DropDown);</pre><br />Stefan<br />Adobe Systems

Hi, please verify whether JDeveloper11115\Oracle\Middleware\oracle_common\modules\oracle.jps_11.1.1\jps-manifest.jar and JDeveloper11115\Oracle\Middleware\oracle_common\modules\oracle.adf.model_11.1.1\rcsrt.jar are available in the class path... Also verify oimclient.jar too.
The oracle.adf.rc.core.CatalogReference class is present in rcsrt.jar.

  • Connect database using ext javascript or applescipt in indesign

    Hi,
I need to connect oracle database using extended javascript or apple script in indesign. Can somebody help by giving any suggestion. Or is there any possibility to connect database using the two scripting methods.
    It  is really urgent.
    Thanks
    Karthik B

ExtendScript has a Socket object prototype you can use to e.g. connect to the internet. Calling a web service would probably be more elegant than addressing the database directly. Socket is fairly low-level, though. If you need something easier, you could always try out http://extendables.org/docs/packages/http/doc/readme.html
I seem to recall some InDesign plug-ins you could buy that allow you to connect to a database directly, but you'd have to google that yourself.

  • Unable to create BPM MDS Connection

    Hello,
I am trying to configure a BPM MDS Connection in Jdeveloper and I have a problem very similar to the one described in this thread: Re: Can't configure BPM MDS connection in  JDeveloper
Same as described there, when trying to create a new BPM MDS connection, I can't select any of the existing SOA MDS connection (the dropdown list is empty), not even when creating a new SOA MDS connection from the "New BPM MDS Connection" interface.
However, the solution proposed there (extending the domain with BPM Suite) does not apply here, since BPM Suite is already a component of that domain.
    I'm using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0.
    Thanks,
    Alex

Did you run the repository creation utility to create schemas for SOA/BPM/ADF/BAM?

  • How to Connect Database Using Script?

    Hi all,
Am using Adobe InDesign CS3. Is there any way to connect database from Adobe InDesign CS3 Scripting (Javascript)? Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Mohan

I don't know javascript so I can't help with that part.
The system plug in you need is from Actual Technologies : http://www.actualtechnologies.com/ The setup for that is detailed in their instructions. You will probably want to set it up for system-wide access, not by user. I found system-wide access more reliable, fwiw.
For Applescript I send a command through the Terminal/command line that returns the data from the query.
    Here is Applescript:
set query to "YOUR DB QUERY"
    set results to (do shell script "echo \"" & query & "\" | iodbctest \"dsn=" & dsn & ";uid=" & uid & ";pwd=" & pwd & "\" | awk '{ if (match($0,\"SQL>\")) {k++; if (k==1) next; if (k==2) exit; } if (k==1) print; }'")
You can probably do something similar in Javascript. You'll have to parse out the text data returned then. I think there may be plug-ins for InDesign that can directly connect to a database (?). Or some plug-ins like inData can take their data passed from a script as well.
