MDX Create Member using dimension filters

I am trying to create a measure in MDX cube with dimension filters.  The below code works.
CREATE MEMBER CURRENTCUBE.[Measures].[SOda] AS
[Measure].[SOda_pre],
[Case].[Outage Cause].&[CustomerA],
[Case.[SO Filter].&[1]
When I add another customer name to the filter it returns #VALUE.  Below is what I tried.
CREATE MEMBER CURRENTCUBE.[Measures].[SOda] AS
[Measure].[SOda_pre]
*{[Case].[Outage Cause].&[CustomerA], [Case].[Outage Cause].&[CustomerB]}
*{[Case.[SO Filter].&[1]}

Hi Ang202,
In your second calculated member query, you use CrossJoin (*) function in it. Calculated members
are members of a dimension or a measure group that are defined based on a combination of cube data, arithmetic operators, numbers, and functions. For example, you can create a calculated member that calculates the sum of two physical measures in the cube.
It accept the numeral value. However,
CrossJoin function returns the cross product of one or more sets. So it returns #VALUE.

  • Help in creating MDX Calculated Member using attributes from multiple Dimension

    Hi All,
First of all my knowledge on MDX is basic. In one of our projects, there is a requirement to create calculated member (similar to derived fields in SQL) which is more of a dimension attribute and not really a calculated member. Due to IP issues I cannot paste
the actual queries but I will provide an SQL Query equivalent to what I am trying to achieve:
    Select P.Product, Case When ISNULL(FS.ArtistName,'') = '' Then P.ArtistName Else FS.ArtistName End Artist
     From
    dbo.FactMusicSales FS
    Join dbo.dimProduct P
    on P.DimProductKey =  FS.DimProductKey
We are trying to replicate the logic for derving the "Artist" field using MDX script.
We are running into issues while trying to build an MDX expression using the above logic. The main issue being that the new field/member "Artist" would not be calculated unless its elements are selected (FS.ArtistName, P.ArtistName). Besides this
we are also unable to place this new member in a different folder other than a sub folder under the measures. Any pointers to solving this would be really helpful.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Venki

    Hi Venki,
According to your description, you need to create calculated member (similar to derived fields in SQL) which is more of a dimension attribute and not really a calculated member, right?
In your scenario, you needn't to achieve this requirement by using MDX. You can use a named query on your data source view. A named query is a SQL expression represented as a table. In a named query, you can specify an SQL expression to select rows and columns
returned from one or more tables in one or more data sources. So in you scenario, you can use your query on the DSV, and then use the modified table to create a dimension.

  • BPC 10.0- Creating report using dimension property filter

    Hi,
I created a new report in EPM addin for excel using the 'Filter Members by Properties' feature in the EPM Member Selector Window.
My requirement is as I add new members to my dimension with that property value , the report has to refresh and display the new member in the report.
The feature met my requirement and I saved the report. When I reopen the report, the filter that I had earlier used to create the report is hard coded with the members with those properties in the EPM selector Window.
As a result, when I add new Members to the dimension with that property , the report does not recognise that new member and my requirement does not meet.
Eg: I create report with Entity dimension across row axis and Product Dimension -filter on category  = New  across column axis
    and save the report.
When I reopen the report, I see that in the EPM Member selector window, across column axis the members with Property Value Category= Y - Product A,Product B, Product E are hard coded and the filter has been auto removed.
So when I add a new member to my product dimension Product N with property Category= New, the report does not recognise this member.
Please help on how can I use this feature to meet my requirement.
    Regards,
    Sowmya

    Hi,
It should work for newly created members which meets the requriement in member selector.
    Member filtering by properties:
Select property, operator and Value and click Add Dynamic filter then in the right window you will be able to see as follows:
    Member name                           Relation ship
    <property>=<Value>                 Property
    Hope it works,
    Thanks,

  • Creating Report using EPM Functions with Dynamic Filters

    Hi All,
I am new to BPC, In BPC 7.5 i seen like we can generate EPM report using EVDRE function very quickly and easy too. Is the same feature is existing in BPC 10.0 ? if no how can we create EPM reports using EPM Functions with Dynamic Filters on the Members of the dimension like in BPC 7.5.
And i searched in SDN, there is no suitable blogs or documents which are related to generation of Reports using EPM Functions. All are described just in simple syntax way. It is not going to be understand for the beginners.
Would you please specify in detail step by step.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Siva Nagaraju

    Siva,
These functions are not used to create reports per se but rather assist in building reports. For ex, you want to make use of certain property to derive any of the dimension members in one of your axes, you will use EPMMemberProperty. Similary, if you want to override members in any axis, you will make use of EPMDimensionOverride.
Also, EvDRE is not replacement of EPM functions. Rather, you simply create reports using report editor (drag and drop) and then make use of EPM functions to build your report. Forget EvDRE for now.
You can protect your report to not allow users to have that Edit Report enabled for them.
As Vadim rightly pointed out, start building some reports and then ask specific questions.
    Hope it clears your doubts.

  • Creating a DWMQY DIMENSION using Analytic Workspace Manager

    Hi everyone,
I need some help creating a "time aware" (DAY, WEEK, MONTH, QUARTER, and YEAR) dimension using Analytic Workspace Manager.
Let me give you some background. I'm coming from a traditional "Oracle Express" OLAP background where all our data is stored in cubes and these are defined, populated and operated on using OLAP DML, there is no SQL or traditional relational tables involved.
I now want to pull data from relational tables into some OLAP cubes and am using Analytic Workspace Manager to do this (maybe this is not the best way?)
Let me explain what I'm trying to achieve. In OLAP worksheet I can type the following DML commands:
    DEFINE MY_DAY DIMENSION DAY
    MAINTAIN MY_DAY ADD TODAY '01JAN2011'
What this will do is create a "day dimension" and will populate it with values for each and every day between 1st Jan 2011 and today. It will be fully "time aware" and thus you can use date functions such as DAYOF to limit the MY_DAY dimension to all the Fridays etc. Similarly if I define a "month dimension" there will be an automatic implicit relationship between these two dimensions, this relationship and time aware cleverness is built into Oracle.
However, a dimension defined using DML commands (and indeed all objects created using DML language) is not visible in Analytic Workspace Manager (as there is no metadata for them?) and for the life of me I cannot work out how to create such a dimension using AWM. If I create a "Time Dimension" then, as far as I can tell, this is not a proper time dimension but merely a text dimension and I, presume, I have to teach it time awareness.
Can anyone help me? I have no issues creating, and populating cubes from relational tables using Analytic Workspace Manager, the only issue I have is creating a "proper" time aware dimension.
    Many thanks in anticipation.
    Ian.

When a dimension is of type "TIME" in AWM, then for each member of that dimension, you need END_DATE and TIMESPAN attributes in addition to the key column and description column.
So in your case, if there are 5 levels: DAY->WEEK->MONTH->QTR->YEAR
then you will need atleast 15 columns in your source sql table/view
or 20 columns if you have separate column for description.
For example the columns in your source table/view could be:
    DAY_ID,
    DAY_DESC,
DAY_END_DATE, (which will be that day's date)
    DAY_TIMESPAN, (which will be 1)
    WEEK_ID,
    WEEK_DESC,
    WEEK_END_DATE,
    WEEK_TIMESPAN,
    MONTH_ID,
    MONTH_DESC,
    MONTH_END_DATE,
    MONTH_TIMESPAN,
    QTR_ID,
    QTR_DESC,
    QTR_END_DATE,
    QTR_TIMESPAN,
    YEAR_ID,
    YEAR_DESC,
    YEAR_END_DATE,
    YEAR_TIMESPAN
Just "map" this table/view to the 5-level time dimension in AWM.
NOTE that behind-the-scenes lot of useful structures are automatically defined to support time-series measures,
and there are lot of calculation templates available also.
Since you came from Express background, I have to say that try to use new OLAP Expression Syntax when creating calculated measures instead of OLAP DML.
Its very rare these days that we need OLAP DML.

  • How can I create accurate decimal dimensions when creating a new document or using the art board in Illustrator CS6? When I type in a number with a decimal, it automatically rounds the number up.

How can I create accurate decimal dimensions when creating a new document or using the art board in Illustrator CS6? When I type in a number with a decimal, it automatically rounds the number up.

For my part you are welcome, sdowers.
Unfortunately, the uncertainty arising from the rounding has been up several times here in this forum.
I just came to remember a warning that needs to be given:
The rounding of the representation of a numerical value may be harmless in itself, but if you use it for any operation that changes the value, such as multiplication or whatever, things will go wrong because the operation will be made on the basis of the rounded value instead of the true value. So, as in your first case in post #2, 39.625 rounded to 39.63 will become 79.26 instead of 79.25.

  • SQL08 Need example of creating AND using a Fact (degenerate) dimension

Can someone post a link to some examples of setting up and using a Fact (degenerate) dimension.  Ive got the SSAS 2008R2 Adventureworks DW project setup and I see a few Fact dimensions in there, but id like some descriptions to go along with this or
    something similar.
    My scenario:
Orders - attributes include :  Order#, OrderStartDate, SalesPerson, BusinessType, MarketType
OrderTransactions - attributes include:  OrderKey , TransactionAmount, TransactionType, TransactionDate, AccountKey
    Description:
Its more or less the typical Order > Order Detail type scenario, with the addition of Orders have some additional attributes.
So I want to be able to measure on for example:
Order counts - broken down by BusinessType and MarketType , and then within a date range
Revenue - which will be totals of transaction amounts, again grouped by BusinessType and MarketType, but also be able to drill down to see the related Order#

    Hi Shiftbit,
According to your description, you need some examples about create and use degenerate dimensions, right?
Degenerate dimensions, also called fact dimensions, are standard dimensions that are constructed from attribute columns in fact tables instead of from attribute columns in dimension tables. Here is document that describes how to create and use degenerate
dimensions step by step, please refer to the links below.

  • Create Dynamic Distribution Groups Using Customized Filters

I am looking to create a new Dynamic Distribution List.
    Example:
DL - United States Users ([email protected]
In AD we have the 'Office' field filled accordingly, which contains the attribute USCA___ or USIL (US,California, etc or US, Illinois, etc).
    I was wanting to try creating these using this command/script;
    New-DynamicDistributionGroup -Name "DL - United States Users" -RecipientFilter {(RecipientType -eq 'UserMailbox') -and (Office -eq 'USCA*')(Office -eq 'USIL*')}
    Assistance here please:
    1. What needs to be added in that line so that only certain users can email to it, rejecting all others (i.e. The Helpdesk or Corporate Communications)
    2. Is there a way to specify the SMTP address you want it to use?
    3. Is there a way to have it only add mailboxes that are enabled in AD so disabled mailbox user accounts wont be added?
    Thanks in advance everyone.

    Hi,
We can use the following command to create a Dynamic distribution group:
New-DynamicDistributionGroup -Name "DL - United States Users" -RecipientFilter {(RecipientType -eq 'UserMailbox') -and (Office -like
    'US, California' -or (Office -like 'US, Illinois')) -and (UserAccountControl -ne 'AccountDisabled, NormalAccount')}
Then as what ED says, we can use the Set-DynamicDistributionGroup cmdlet with AcceptMessagesOnlyFrom or
AcceptMessagesOnlyFromDLMembers parameter to specify certain users who can send email messages to this dynamic distribution group. And use PrimarySMTPAddress parameter to specify the primary return SMTP email address for the distribution group.
    Hope it helps.

  • Using Dimension Formulas to sum data based on different criteria

    Hi all,
I am trying to use a u201CDimension Formulau201D to perform the following calculation:
We have an account dimension which has 2 important properties:
    1.     CRITERIUMTYPE: This property can have 3 different values: u201CWERKu201D, u201CINVu201D OR u201CLIQu201D
    2.     ACCTYPE: This property can have 2 different values: u201CEXPu201D or u201CINCu201D
The client wants to have a report that sums data based on these 2 properties. An example will help to clarify this:
    ACCOUNTS     CRITERIUMTYPE     ACCTYPE     VALUE
    ACCOUNT A         WERK                          EXP               100 u20AC
    ACCOUNT B         WERK                          INC               150 u20AC
    ACCOUNT C         WERK                          EXP               200 u20AC
    ACCOUNT D         WERK                          INC               300 u20AC
    ACCOUNT E         INV                          EXP               50 u20AC
    ACCOUNT F         INV                          INC               100 u20AC
    ACCOUNT G         INV                          EXP               200 u20AC
    ACCOUNT H         INV                          INC               500 u20AC
The clients wishes to see this data in the following way:
    CRITERIUMTYPE     ACCTYPE     VALUE
       WERK                         EXP              300 u20AC
                                        INC              450 u20AC
       INV                         EXP              250 u20AC
                                     INC              600 u20AC
In order to achieve this I have created several new accounts, one for each combination e.g.: Account WERKEXP is used to sum the data on the combination CRITERIUMTYPE=WERK and ACCTYPE=EXP. I have created a dimension formula in my account dimension but this is where I am stuck. I have created the following formula to calculate the account WERKEXP:
    IIF([BUDGETPOSITIE].CURRENTMEMBER.PROPERTIES("ACCTYPE")="EXP",IIF([BUDGETPOSITIE].CURRENTMEMBER.PROPERTIES("CRITERIUMTYPE")="WERK",[BUDGETPOSITIE].CURRENTMEMBER,0),0)
The problem with this formula is the following:
The formula will add all amounts that meet the 2 criteria mentioned in the formula, EXP and WERK, but as soon as it finds an accounts that does not match the 2 criteria it will set the account WERKEXP back to 0. I need to know if there is a way, using dimension formulas, of adding these values together without the new account being set to 0 as soon as one of the accounts it needs to check does not meet 1 of the 2 criteria.
We are working on SAP BPC 7.5 for NW with SP04
All help is very much appreciated!
    Kind regards,
    Stefano

    Hi,
You can also use ParentHn property to have different grouping of accounts within the dimension.
So in your case rather using the member formula you can have four accounts and add them in the Parenthn property for grouping it.
    1. The Solution proposed by Nilanjan is specific for a Report/IS and Performance will be good
    2. My solution will be global something similar to MDX formula, but performance may be slightly lesser than using excel function.
    Hope this helps,

  • Using Dimension Role

    Hi Guys ,
I've created one dimension that i want to use it multiple time in one cube , so i defined two role for it (delivery branch, order branch) .
I used this dimension twice in sales cube with different role but when i want to deploy cube i got following error .
XOQ-01486: Consistent solve has two aggregation steps over dimension "DIM_BRANCH".
I Use Roalp with CubeMV storage option for my cube and dimension .
I've read in owb help that when we use Dimension Role , Oralce make seperate Dimension for Role in Olap Catalog , but when i deploy my dimension with two role , i can see only one dimension in awm .
    I need your help.
    thanks

We're going to need some more details about exactly what you did because it really sounds like you're making a mistake. This extra attribute should work.
The only situation I can think of where it might not work as intended is if your new attribute is a property of the state attribute... when you slice by the state attribute, it will override the default member on the new attribute.
What are your attribute relationships in that dimension? What do you get when you run the following MDX queries?
    with
    member test1 as [Geography].[State].DefaultMember.UniqueName
    member test2 as [Geography].[NewAttribute].DefaultMember.UniqueName
    select {test1,test2} on 0
    from YourCube
    select {} on 0,
    [Geography].[NewAttribute].[NewAttribute].Members
    *[Geography].[State].[State].Members on 1
    from YourCube
As for the calculated member [Geography].[State].[All].[West], you can add to that to the MDX script (the Calculations tab in the cube designer) and it will be available to all sessions.http://artisconsulting.com/Blog/GregGalloway

  • Use dimension in HSF freeform calculation

    Hi everybody,
I want to use dimension structure in Oracle Hyperion Strategic Finance Application.
I assigned a user defined dimension, to an account. Then, I used a different dimension for any other account. e.g: v300.00.001/A1 - v300.00.002/B1
Now, I want to create a freeform calculation for an account that names as v300.00.002/B1. My formula is; v300.00.002/B1= @DIM(v300.00.001, "A1")
But this fomula, send error "HSF14359: The formula for v300.00.001/A1 requires v300.00.002/B1 which does not exist in this file.
How can I solve this problem? Can I use freeform calculation with dimensional structure in HSF?
    Thanks.

It's extremely annoying that the FLD() command isn't yet availlable in NW, unless it's coming with 7.5 or has been included in one of the more recent support packs.
As a an alternative you may be able to use the following MDX routine:
Returns the value of a property of the current member of a dimension
    *function PRO(%DIMENSIONNAME%,%PROPERTYNAME%)
    %DIMENSIONNAME%.Properties("%PROPERTYNAME%")
    *endfunction
Unfortunately I've never been able to use this with a When statement, so you may have to ask an ABAP resource to develop a BADI to achieve your required results.

  • Error in WEBI report and MDXTEST  when using Dimensions in Prompt

    Hi,
    I am using BOXIR3.1 SP2, SAPBI 7.0
I m creating a webI report (Universe is on SAP BI Query.) which include following objcets in Query section of WebI pannel:
Business partner, Account Class, Total Arreas count.
The Condition pane of Webi Includes Prompt on object "Account Class".
When I run a report, I get List of values for Dimension Account Class, when I select one of available value eg: Commercial Customer,I get Following Error.
A database error occured. The database error text is: The MDX query SELECT  { [Measures].[4EITIDWAFWLLZD2ONIAVCKD56] }  ON COLUMNS , NON EMPTY CROSSJOIN( [Z_BPATNER].[LEVEL01].MEMBERS,  { [Z_FCACTBP__0UCACC_CLAS].[Commercial Customers] }  ) ON ROWS FROM [ZFC_M07/Z_FC_M07_Q002]  failed to execute with the error Value Commercial Customers for characteristic Z_FCACTBP__0UCACC_CLAS unknown. (WIS 10901)
I tried running same query in MDXTEST editor of BI. I got same error!!!
Then I tried changing the MDX Query as:
    SELECT  { [Measures].[4EITIDWAFWLLZD2ONIAVCKD56] }
    ON COLUMNS , NON EMPTY CROSSJOIN( [Z_BPATNER].[LEVEL01].MEMBERS,  { [Z_FCACTBP__0UCACC_CLAS].[COM] }  ) ON ROWS
    FROM [ZFC_M07/Z_FC_M07_Q002]
Then it worked Fine!!!  If you observe the change is in the value of Prompt Account Class [Z_FCACTBP__0UCACC_CLAS].[COM]
By default Dimension object in Universe shows text value, but when I changed the MDXQuery with Key value (This is one of the value of value is for [Z_FCACTBP__0UCACC_CLAS].[Level01] object in mDX test Editor.) It works fine.
I wonder How do i solve this problem!! List of values available in dimension cannot be changed at universe level.
Please let me know if any solution for this exists.
    regads,
    Nisha.

    Hi Ingo,
I am creating the prompt on the dimension "Account Class" at WebI level.
The Technical name of this object is: [Z_FCACTBP__0UCACC_CLAS].[LEVEL01]
    Also,
I confirmed that Index Awareness is applied on this dimension as [Z_FCACTBP__0UCACC_CLAS].[LEVEL01].[TECH_NAME].
This Dimension has detail object called "Account Class (Key) "and "Account Class (Medium name)".
MDXtest editor in SAP, shows me text as well as [ Level01] values:
Eg: Account Class InfoObject has values "Commercial Customer " (This is text value)and  "[Z_FCACTBP__0UCACC_CLAS].[COM]".
COM Refers to Commercial Customer .
So In WebI when I use Dimension "Account Class" as prompt, I get Text value of this InfoObject which is "Commercial Customer ".
and MDXQuery Fails. But when I modify this query in mDXTEST Editor with value as "[Z_FCACTBP__0UCACC_CLAS].[COM]", It work fine.
I donu2019t understand the reason, since this problem is with almost 90% of Dimension object.
When I delete this object from universe, and refresh the universe then webI works fine.
But, if for some reason I refresh the universe again, the Dimension object as a prompt doesnu2019t work!!!
This error occurs every time I refresh the universe.
We are in UAT phase and soon to go Live!!  We cannot afford to delete the object every time I refresh the universe.
Please let me know your inputs.
    regards,
    Nisha.

  • How to create an attribute dimension in Essbase Studio?

I cannot figure out how to create an attribute dimension using Essbase Studio. The online help states that I need to "Find the Attribute settings grouping in the center" of the member properties dialog box. I suspect that I'm having a problem figuring this out because I don't have the attribute dimension properly defined in the relational data source or in the mini-schema. I've tried creating a table with no key relationship to the other tables and with no logical joins defined, but that doesn't seem to help. Any ideas?

so in the 11.1.1 version you would click on the member name in the hierarchy you added to the Essbase model and in the center pane of the general tab should be the attributes settings section.
If I had a dimension called stores wth two groupings unser it region and store_type, I would click on store_type and add the attribute info

I resolved this issue a while ago, but I hadn't posted back the results. Here is what happened...
I talked to Oracle support about my design and issues. They created a patch for me that would re-enable the 10g functionality so that my model/queries would work again. From their perspective, 10g's non-conforming code design was flawed and 11g was fixed to correct the flaw. This flaw was what allowed my model and queries to work in 10g.
NOTE: I have not tested the patch (bug# 11850704)
The only way to get things working on 11g without the patch is to find a common fact that all dimensions can join. After some consideration and testing, I decided that it would be possible to join all the dimensions to one fact with some backend design changes. I could have proceeded with the patch, but I doubt that the 10g functionality will be maintained in the coming releases. Therefore, I would only be delaying the inevitable redesign.
I have to admit that the final results have been positive and I have eliminated many of the 10g issues that I had with the design.
