Measure mobiles processor speed

Hello
I am trying to find out how i can measure mobile phones processor speed with help of J2ME. Is there any algorithm that can be used to measure the computational speed? Is there any way to measure Java's virtual machine speed? I found source code from www.tastephone.com where the author measures the processor speed, but i am nor really understand why he is doing like he does:
private int getMHz(int maxi)
1783 {
1784 int i= 2;
1785 long duration, start= System.currentTimeMillis();
1786 while (--maxi != 0)
1787 {
1788 if ((maxi & 1) == 0)
1789 i += 2;
1790 // if maxi is even, add 2 to i, we don't add if it's odd.
1791 }
1792 duration= System.currentTimeMillis() - start;
1793 int mhz= 0;
1794 if (duration != 0)
1795 {
1796 // mhz = number of CPU cycles for the loop : 6
1797 // * number of loops : i
1798 // / (number of cycles per second in 1MHz / number of ms in 1s / 100)
1799 // = 1000000 / 1000 /100
1800 // = 10 so we divide by 10
1801 // / duration in ms
1802 // so now mhz holds a value in MHz multiplied by 100 to have 2 decimal figures
1803 mhz= 6 * i / 10 / (int)duration;
1804 // rounding the decimal figure
1805 if ((mhz - (mhz / 10) * 10) >= 5)
1806 mhz= mhz + 10;
1807 mhz /= 10;
1808 // keeps one decimal figure instead of two
1809 // always return a non zero value (test successful)
1810 if (mhz == 0)
1811 mhz= 1;
1812 }
1813 return mhz;
1814 }
He wirtes at line 1796 that mhz = number of CPU cycles for the loop : 6
Why is number of CPU cycles for the loop 6? Where did he found that?
Thanks

He wirtes at line 1796 that mhz = number of CPU
cycles for the loop : 6
Why is number of CPU cycles for the loop 6? Where did
he found that?Well, I guess, he checked how many byte code instruction this loop takes. He forgets that this figure does not say anything about the amount of real CPU cycles it takes to make one loop. In consequence, the outcome of the computation is mosty setainly wrong.

    I would to upgrade this to at least 2.8Ghz
    I need to find out what is compatible with my computer.
    Could i use a Mobile Pentium 4 Processor or do i need the specific one that i am currently using that has the M symbol?

    and it appears that the highest processor speed for
    Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor - M
    is 2.6 Ghz, can i not exceed 2.6Ghz?
    I am interested in this spec and do you know if my computer will work with it?

    Unless changes were made to the 6100 series that spares dealers don't know about then the processor is not soldered direct to the board, a locking zif socket is used.
    Sorry Rachel, now we're into unknown territory. I looked at http://www.impactcomputers.com/p000363550.html as an example and then using the CPU ID sl6j5 to http://processorfinder.intel.com/scripts/details.asp?sspec=sl6j5 which indeed is an M processor. Extra parts to consider possibly; the heatsink & fan assembly. As stated before, the current one may only be rated to match the processor originally fitted, on the other hand it may be ok. I suspect nothing else would need changing - I have no idea if Tosh would have limited the BIOS to recognise only one or two CPU types per model (unlikely).
    The warnings given by Quad and Andrej re disassembly are extremely important so where possible obtain a service manual prior to doing anything. I have a 6000 copy which may be the same layout, be meticulous in your work. Screws have identifying letter/number combinations meaning differnt types and lengths and must be returned to the correct locations. Some are also supposed to be discarded and new ones put in as they have a vibration proof seal to prevent coming loose, as you will not be doing this, tighten well (not over) and double check your work. The insides are full of delicate cable and wires attaching various parts do not force or pull sharply on anything, lift gently look and trace connections - remember to note the locations and orientation. Plastics are held by regular and often mirrored pips, these are prone to break if not carefully eased apart. If the case is not giving, check for hidden screws under labels or inside compartments like battery/RAM/CD/DVD. The CPU must always be refitted with fresh thermal compound and as everything is tightly packed keep it clean and use sparingly but sufficient to coat the surface thinly. Take care when unlocking/locking the processor that you do not slip - disaster if you hit the SMD components they will break. Once assembled a gentle shake will determine if anything has been forgotten or fallen out and watch out for the left over screw at the end!! The whole process can be very daunting so approach only if you have the utmost confidence and can live with repercussions - nothing is guaranteed.
    And don't forget - anti-static precautions at all times!

  • Measure mobiles CPU

    Hello
    I would like some help with how i can measure the CPU speed of a mobile phone. I know that the "clock cycle" is relative with the CPU speed and i am also very interesting to know how can i measure the clock cycle with help of J2ME? Is there a "clock cyckle" at all mobile phones, and if not, how can i mesure the CPU speed at that phones without clock cycle?
    Thank you very much for your help
    Nick - Sweden

    You can't really measure overrall performance. Some phones might be good at number crunching but terrible at drawing graphics. Others might be lightning fast when it comes to drawing, but have a horrible performance when accessing the RMS. Etc.
    You have to look at what your application is going to do, and figure out which areas might affect it the most, and then you can assess the performance requirements for that specific case. The site I linked to has statistics for many different areas all broken down nicely, so it's a lot more useful than just saying "this phone has a performance of 6 and this other one has a performance of 8.5".

  • Kt3 Ultra-aru Processor Speeds?

    Hi There,
        I'm running the MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E v1.X) with an AMD Athlon XP 2000, I was just wondering what Athlon XP processor speeds this supports upto, and if possible what changes I might need to make to the Bios, Would I need to flash my board with a new Bios or just go into my Bios and change some settings.
    Thanks for any help, just trying to get ready for Doom 3 and Halflife 2 if they ever appear
    Cheers,
    Paul.

    But there is no guaranty, that a FSB333 AthlonXP will work. The largest CPU that is allowed from MSI is a 2600+ FSB266.
    But the chance is pretty high, that a FSB333 Athlon will work, though. It did so on mine KT3 Ultra.

  • Amount of RAM useful limited to processor speed?

    I have heard that at a certain point the amount of RAM you throw in your computer won't help past a certain processor speed. If this is true, is there a chart out there that will show these limits?
    Or if anyone has any opinions as far as a:
    Dual 2.7Ghz (G5)
    Dual 1.8Ghz (G5)
    Dual 800Mhz (G4)
    all PowerPC
    thanks,
    T

    Without a list of applications, you could be starving your apps, especially if they need to be open and active. If you work on large photoshop files and not smallish, it is impossible almost to have too much (and you would need a PCIe G5 to get 10-12GB RAM).
    Check page-out; number of swap files; whether you are generating swap files.
    just scanning and retouching can eat up 2GB RAM.
    OS X uses free memory to cache windows, disk I/O, and those won't show up looking at Activity Monitor.
    Virtual memory can be 'requested' or 'allocated' but not used, too.
    I saw people with 512-768MB be shocked at what a difference even light use (email, web, writing, etc) it was to upgrade their G5 to 1.5GB RAM. There are also programming changes that go into a G5 that are totally different from G4s.
    But it has nothing to do with cpu, front side bus.
    And no matter what, a nice fast 10K Raptor boot drive always helps

  • How to measure the rotational speed by using rotary encoder and 1 counter?

    I want to measure the rotational speed of a shaft, and I have below hardware:
    1, a rotary encoder, with A,B,Z signals output;
    2, PCI-E6363 card.
    I do konw how to use such a  encoder to measure the rotational angle by using the function "DAQmxCreateCIAngEncoderChan", but this time I need to measure the speed(rpm), as well as the dirction of the speed, which means a negative speed represent a CCW rotate direction.
    More detail informations:
    for the encoder, the A,B signal is 600ppr, and Z signal is 1ppr
    the rotatinal speed is in range: -300 ~ 5000 rpm.
    some one suggested me that I can use the "DAQmxCreateCIAngEncoderChan" task to measure the angle firstly and then do the differential analysis with the angle. but I have to enable the Z index function, and it's hard to calculate when the shaft speed is fast then 2500rpm.
    Anyone can help me on this issue?
    Thanks in advance!

    RobertoBozzolo:
    Thansk for your reply. You are right that measure frequency to get the speed is the best way, but it's hard to get the dirction at the same time. You suggest me that "perform two angle measurements to get the sense of rotation", but I'm not sure I catched what you mean about this. I try to understand your opinion like this: distribute the signals to 2 counters, and start 2 tasks, one for frequency, the other for angle which used for deciding the dirction?
    And by the way, in my application, the counter is limited:
    I'm using PCI-E6363, which have 4 counters totally, and I have to measure 4 different speed sensors at the same time, so that means only 1 counter for me to measure the speed and the dirction.
    RobertoBozzolo 已写:
    To measure the speed from the encoder you can simply follow some of the frequency measurement examples that ship with DAQmx, considering that speed (rpm) is given by frequency (Hz) on one encoder output / 600 (ppr) * 60 (s->min)  = frequency / 10.
    Difficult is to add a sign to this measurement: frequency measurement gives you no information about sense of rotation, so I suppose you could perform two angle measurements to get the sense of rotation and then get the speed as above.

    That's a kernel panic and indicates some sort of problem either with the computer's hardware or software. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. It would help to post the panic log: Mac OS X- How to log a kernel panic.
    Meanwhile, try booting the computers into Safe Mode then restarting normally. If this is simply a disk repair or cache file problem then this may fix it.
    You can also try creating a new admin account on each computer then booting into the new account. This would help determine if the problem is related to a bad file in the user accounts.

  • Can my old iMac be upgraded for more memory and higher processor speed?

    I admit it - I'm not a computer geek.  I don't know much about how they work but am proficient in using them.  I have an older model iMac.  The specs are:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name: iMac
      Model Identifier: iMac6,1
      Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 4 MB
      Memory: 1 GB
      Bus Speed: 667 MHz
      Boot ROM Version: IM61.0093.B07
      SMC Version (system): 1.10f2
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
    I get the SBBOD all of the time no matter what.  I've tried all of the suggestions to resolve that issue but they don't work.  Even when only one program is open at a time it does it.  The speed of getting anything accomplished has been dramatically reduced over time.  All of my software is up to date.  All I need to know is, if I take my iMac to an Apple store, can they upgrade the RAM or whatever is needed to make the SBBOD go away and make things work faster?  Sorry for sounding like a dummy here but I'm really not interested in how it works, just that it does work.
    Thanks for any help you can give!

    I did the etrecheck as suggested and here is what it came up with.  Does anything look suspect?

  • Change Processor Speed with Apple Script?

    Can I use AppleScript to change the Processor Speed in System Preferences/Energy Saver pane?
    The background is that my PowerBook G4 is quite noisy when it's running on the highest speed. This is okey during the days but on the evenings and nights I want it silent (but still on), so instead of changing this manually I'm thinking of a Script to trigger this.
    Please help. :o)

    Hi Andreas
    yes this can be done using a bit of gui script, the script supplied can be saved as a "application, run only" and activated say from iCal or cron.
    "3" is Lowest, so just change the "3" in this line
    click menu item 3 of menu 1 of pop up button 1 of tab group 1 of window "Energy Saver"
    to 2 or 1 "2" is Highest, "1" is Automatic
    and then re-save the script with another name and activate it to change your settings back to where you started.
    tell application "System Events"
    if not (UI elements enabled) then set UI elements enabled to true
    tell application "System Preferences"
    set current pane to pane "com.apple.preference.energysaver"
    tell application "System Events" to tell process "System Preferences"
    set frontmost to true
    click radio button "Options" of tab group 1 of window "Energy Saver"
    click pop up button 1 of tab group 1 of window "Energy Saver"
    click menu item 2 of menu 1 of pop up button 1 of tab group 1 of window "Energy Saver"
    delay 0.5
    tell application "System Events"
    if (name of processes) contains "System Preferences" then tell application "System Preferences" to quit
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell

  • How can I check what the processor speed is

    We have an old white dome base iMac, running OSX 10.1  How can I check the processor speed - it is not available to choose in the 'about this Mac' dropdown?

    Turns out it is a mind blowing 40 MHz!
    Something read wrong. The slowest FP iMac was 700mHz.
    While in OSX, can you see if 10.1 has its own version of System Profiler? In newer OSX versions it's in Applications >Utilties.
    I jumped from OS9 to 10.2 so, like Eustace, can't remember what 10.1 has--or doesn't have.
    You can look dor the sticker/decal with the serial number. That usually gives the processor speed also:

  • Mobile Processor

    I am checking out  a  XP2600 AMD mobile processor for some overclocking..for the Delta KT600 MB  ...Should it be  a snap and go installing it ? This chip has low Voltage 1.45V compared to a Barton XP2500 at 1.625 so it would be alot easier to overclock and the multipliers come unlocked

  • New E70 - What is the processor speed?

    Does anybody have details of the E70's processor speed?
    Based on the currently available specs this phone seems to be exactly what Im looking for to replace my 9300. My only concern is whether or not it performs better than the 9300 at opening and viewing reasonably sized documents such as pdf, word and spreadsheets. I find that my 9300 is woefully slow at this and at times it is practically unuseable as a business phone.
    Thanks in advance.
    Andy

    if you find the 9300 slow, then it will be unlikely that the e70 will be any better.
    i also use a 9300 for work and find that it is very adequate for sending and receiving emails with attachments etc.
    whilst i am unable to open complex spreadsheets all the time, i am able to open large word documents and very large pdf's with no problems at all.
