"memory error at 0x0237a33c", task manager, & Java

The past couple weeks, I've often been getting an error message when closing Firefox. I'd estimate that it happens 1:3 times. The message reads: "Firefox.exe - Application error. Instruction at 9x6200389e referenced memory at 0x0237a33c. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program."
I haven't really modified the computer, except for Windows & anti-virus program updates. The only thing I've really messed with is cleaning out the Windows Temp file now & then.
Then yesterday, I happened to bring up the Task Manager after I got the Firefox error. Even though Firefox was closed, Task Manager showed 4 Firefox processes running. I shut all of them down, & when I opened Firefox, it appeared in Task Manager. When I closed Firefox, it still showed in Task Manager. When I reopened Firefox, it showed up as a 2nd Firefox process in Task Manager. Again, when I closed Firefox, none of the Firefox processes in Task Manager closed or ended; they all remained running.
I've been checking Task Manager often since & it's still the same thing. I downloaded Firefox 12 & I'm still getting the same error message. Firefox is still shown as running in Task Manager even though it's been closed. Also, since I updated Firefox 11 to Firefox 12, I checked my add-ons. It said my Java was outdated & disabled. Do I really need this? (I don't see Java listed under Programs in the Control Panel either.)

Try to start Firefox in [[Safe mode|Safe mode]]. This mode disables all extensions, user customizations, hardware acceleration, etc. temporarily for diagnostic and troubleshooting. If Firefox works fine in Safe Mode, then this is likely an add-on issue. Restart Firefox in normal mode, then type "About:addons" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Disable your extensions one by one, restarting Firefox between each one, until you find the trouble maker. Once you do, you can disable that add-on and report the issue to that add-on's developer.
A few other basic trouble shooting things you can try is this:
Run all Windows Updates, install all needed service packs, etc.
Update your graphics driver (Firefox uses your graphics card for some rendering, and an out of date graphics card driver can cause problems. [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers].
Update all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.): [http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ http://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/].
Download and Install MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, run a full Scan. [http://www.malwarebytes.org/ http://www.malwarebytes.org/]. This helps check that there are no viruses on your computer causing issues. You can uninstall this program after you clean off any infections.
As for Java, it is needed to display some content on certain websites (example, Pogo games uses it for their online games). Old versions of Java were disabled due to major security flaws. If you aren't using Java, you don't have to have it installed, so it's up to you :) If you do want it, go to [http://www.java.com www.java.com] to get the most recent version.

  • Firefox 29.0.1 on Windows 7 (64-bit): ALWAYS get "Firefox is already running but not responding..." error and need Task Manager to close/restart Firefox.

I run Firefox 29.0.1 on Windows 7 (64 bit) and I get the "Firefox is already running but not responding. In order to open the program you must close the existing window." error. EVERY TIME I try to start Firefox. The posted solution works to start the program, but it is not a permanent solution. I go through the Task Manager and end the old Firefox process, then I can open a new window. While working, I can open multiple tabs and multiple windows, everything seems to (usually) work the way it should. Then after I completely exit Firefox, in order to open the program again I need to fix the SAME error again. Every time. It doesn't seem to hurt anything really, but it is quite annoying.
I used to get this same error on some of the older Firefox versions but it was only once in a while. With the new 29.0.1 it is literally EVERY TIME I TRY TO RUN FIREFOX!!!!
So, down to the big question: is there a permanent fix for this yet? Or will there be one included in the next version update? Or am I going to have to go back to Internet Explorer? I know I am not alone in this experience; i've seen several other users posting similar questions but none of them received satisfactory answers. So what's the story here, team Firefox?

This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up.

  • Will not close completely, 572K of memory still shows in Task manager and can not force an end, thus Firefox will not restart

When I exit Firefox and try to restart I get a message that Firefox is still running. When I go to Task Manager it shows 572k of memory being used by firefox.exe. When I hit "End Process" nothing happens it still there. The only way I can restart Firefox is to restart my computer. I have been running Firefox on this machine running XP for about 18 months but this problem just started a week ago. I have even re installed Firefox.

  • Minimum memory error installing OVM 3 Manager on VirtualBox

I am trying to set up a simple pair of VBox images to demo OVM 3.
I was able to create a VBox image for the server but I get an minimum memory error during the installation of the Manager.
I have set the VBox image memory to 5GB but still get the message.
Is there some way to turn off the configuration checks?
    Phil.

I was able to create a VBox image for the server but I get an minimum memory error during the installation of the Manager. The Server won't work inside a VirtualBox instance - even if you got the Manager running, the discovery process will fail, as VirtualBox doesn't present enough hardware for dmidecode. You will need a physical machine for Oracle VM Server.
Also, the memory error is a warning, but not fatal. My guess is that you're using a complex password, which causes XE to spin until it runs out of memory. Try the install with a simple (letters/numbers) password instead.

  • Error in FDM task manager

    Hi,
I am trying to clear the month data using FDM batch script in HFM application.
Manually I am able to RUN the script. but its failing when I am trying to schedule the script by using the FDM task manager.
Please let me know is there any setting I need to do other than schedule procedure.
    Thanks,

Is the e-mail send in an event script or a custom script. I had issues where the custom script would work, but the event script would not ( i think it may have been because the custom script runs under the FDM user id whilst the event script runs under the windows service id. (Might be wrong, but i think that was the issue)

  • Why does Firefox use up so much memory? My Windows Task Manager shows it using 109 Meg just now asking this question. Thanks

Pretty simple: I want to know how I can keep Firefox from using so much memory when in use. 100-200 meg is common. Thank you

Hi musicfan,<br />Sorry you are having problems with Firefox. Maybe you should have asked earlier and we could have fixed it.
Reading your comments I do not see that rolling back to an insecure Firefox 22 will actually help you much. You are probably best using IE, unless you have also damaged that.
    *[[Export bookmarks to Internet Explorer]]
You should not use old versions they are insecure. Security fixes are publicised and exploitable.
    * [[Install an older version of Firefox]]
    * https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html
Most others will not be having such problems. We are now able to say that with confidence because after developers missed a regression in Firefox 4 telemetry was introduced so that data was obtained. It may be an idea to turn on your telemetry, if you have not already done so, and decide to stick with Firefox.

Trying safe mode takes seconds. Unfortunatly if you are not willing to do even rudimentary troubleshooting there is not anything we can do to help you.

  • Hyper-V guest OS task manager reports more memory used than expected

I have a Hyper-V node with 32 GB of system memory and 6 cores (12 logical processors with hyperthreading) running Windows Server 2012 Datacenter.  On this node I have a virtual machine with 4 GB of system memory and two logical processors running Windows
    Server 2008 R2 Standard.
On the virtual machine, Task Manager show that 3.62 GB of memory are being used and 109 MB are free.  This is despite the fact that nothing is installed or running on the vm except the operating system.  The memory usage for all processes for all
users as reported by Task Manager is under 100 MB.
Any ideas on what can be causing such a huge discrepancy between the memory usage reported by Task Manager and reality?  The host OS reports 9.8 GB out of 32 GB memory usage (expected since several VMs are running on the host), but I would not think
that the guest OS would be pegged.

Busy two weeks.  Sorry I didn't respond sooner.
I should clarify that I was not running Task Manager on the host machine, but rather on the guest OS.  Task manager on the VM was reporting incorrect memory usage for the VM.  Task Manager on the host machine was reporting correct information for
    the host.
I would expect that a guest OS should have accurate metrics for its own memory usage as this is usually the case with visualization solutions (Sun VirtualBox, Citrix, VMWare).  Interestingly, although TaskManager on the guest OS is reporting incorrect
(3.62 GB) memory usage, the Hyper-V Manager shows reasonable and likely correct (574 MB) memory usage.  Hyper-V Manager shows 598 MB of "Assigned Memory" and 574 MB of "Memory Demand", whereas TaskManager on the guest OS shows 3.62 GB of memory used.
I would have expected Task Manager on the guest OS to show 4 GB available, 574 MB used, about 3.4 GB free.

  • Java.exe keeps its memory in Task Manager

    Dear All,
I am running EAServer 6.3.1 which uses JAVA.EXE to run its setup.
    1) My machine is windows 2008 EE 32 bit.
    2) I have 4 GB Ram on this machine.
    3) Java.exe memory settings are set to 2048 GB
When i run EAServer 6.3.1 my java.exe memory increases to 98% and my application get crashed.
i set my Java.exe to 3 GB by puting LARGEADDRESSAWARE switch and increased its memory to 3 GB. Now after increasing the memory of Java.exe to 3 Gb the problem remains same and my application get crashed on same 98%.
What i noticed is JAVA.EXE is taking my system Virtual Memory and not the physical memory in starti and keep using VM. When i connected users with my application. different Java instances develop in Task Manager and when i DISCONNECT them the JAVA.EXE memory do not decreases it remains constant to 98% (please also note that total users connected are 225).
Can you please help me in this regards.
    Special Thanks
    Regards
    Adeel Imtiaz

Java is running in your virtual memory probably because you have something loaded in your physical memory that is blocking it's allocation of resources. DB's are usually memory pigs and may be reserving the space you want to use for Java.
You have Java set to take 2 TB of your RAM, which you do not have or is that a typo.
If you are trying to say you have a memory leak, then you'll have to check your program and see what's going on and EAServer bug pages to see if you are encountering a known problem.
In any case--what you have posted, does not make any sense and anyone wishing to help you will be guessing until you can narrow your question down to something other than what essentially is this:
"What have I got in my pocket?"

  • Out of Memory Error in Java Agents running in lotus notes

I have a java agent running inside lotus notes jvm. It runs fine for some days but after some days start giving out of memory error and terminates.
I need to restart agent manager in notes to enable java agent running. Is there a way to catch out of memory error so that on its catch i could restart agent manager.
    Regards,
    Saitu

    Dear Peter,
The agent is written in java and
I need to know a way to enter catch block of 'OUTOFMEMORYERROR'.
My whole code is in a try block with two catches, one for outofmemoryerror and another for exception. When outofmemory error occurs control passes to the exception catch and not outofmemoryerror catch.
Since out of memory is an error and not an exception, is there a way to catch it or run some code when out of memory occurs.
    Regards,
    Saitu

its not a good practice to have multiple JVM's for OC4J_SOA container. we have tried all these options and none of them were successsful.
Better way to do change the infrastructure to 64 bit and have 64 bit OS with 64 bit JVM and 32 bit Fusion, so taht you can have more heap space which will support your transactions.

  • ITunes won't start up, no error message, appears in task manager

    Hi,
I have been running this system since quite a while and haven't had problems with iTunes for a while. I updated to the recent version not to long ago and it worked then once or twice, I even bought a game for the iPod (Tetris)...
Now iTunes doesn't start up anymore. I haven't installed anything new and I am virus free.
I try to launch iTunes and but the UI will not appear. I can see that it's loaded (or stuck somewhere) as the application is in the processes tab in the task manager and doesn't disappear.
Obviously I did the usual: curse a lot, removing everything incl. any traces of quicktime and itunes in the reg, 'application data' folders, the mysterious 'My Music' directory in my docs, reinstalling different versions of iTunes and quicktime, running hijack-this to see what processes I can't recognise, curse even more (**** MS monopoly) and reading a lot on the net and on this particular website.
There are holes in my firewall to accomodate iTunes. I use Sophos anti-virus software (not becasue I chose too).
Is there anything you could recommend?
Reinstalling windows is really not an option here, as I use this computer for work too.
I also use Linux on a seperate partition (Fedora 7), but I know that there were issues with iPod support on Linux and it once broke the whole **** database. Maybe Apple can one day release some software for Linux users? Afterall OS X is just a unix based OS anyways...
Please help, I wasted so much time on this already

    Hi, dengar.
Let's try to get an idea of what might be going on by running through b noir's "smack" for iTunes launch failures.
Based on your original post, I'm going to bypass some of the preliminary questions and make the following assumptions - if any of these assumptions are wrong, post back and we'll follow a different path.
    Assumptions -
    1) There is no error message associated with your iTunes launch failure.
    2) QuickTime itself launches on your computer without any problems.
    3) When you reboot your computer and attempt to launch iTunes, iTunes.exe appears and remains in the Processes list.
If those assumptions are all true, I'd refer you to this article in the Apple Knowledge Base.

  • Multiple instances of Internet Explorer in task manager using 100,000 KB+ memory

Hi! I recently got a virus on my computer that causes multiple instances of explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe to appear in my processes tab of task manager. Over the course of about a minute, the memory usage of each begins to climb rapidly until all of my
memory is being used by these. These do not appear in my applications, nor do they actually open up an internet explorer window. When I end task on them, another one appears about a minute later to take its place and do the same thing again. Additionally,
when I click shut down to turn my computer off, various advertisements flash on my screen for a few seconds before the computer begins to shut down. When the computer is started up, a window appears for a split second that contains only blackness. I have never
seen this window appear before the virus was obtained. When I end task on all my explorer.exe and iexplorer.exe applications at the same time, my desktop vanishes, but it also stops those applications from reappearing.  This virus has caused my computer
to run unbearably slow. I have tried Spybot S&D, Exterminateit, AVG, Roadkill, and other methods and nothing seems to detect this or cure it. I am not that good with computers, but I am dying for help on the matter! If you can assist, please let me know
what I can do with detailed instructions for my sake! Thank you!!!!!!

See and follow Andy's excellent advices.

    Reset Internet Explorer settings".
    If the issue persists...
    1. Please download and run the
    Microsoft Safety Scanner tool (freeware).
    2. Reboot your PC.
    3. Please download and update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free
    4. Reboot Windows in
Safe Mode and run a Full Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
    5. Download and Run AdwCleaner (Freeware)
    6. Reboot and Test.

Just installed Firefox 3.6. Firefox will not start and Firefox safemode does not start either. Using Task manager I do not see if started either. If I create a new profile and start from that window, Firefox starts up. I see no error windows/messages. I do have it listed in my Firewall as an exception program with Permit All. What is happening?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
