Memory leak? & ie7 partial triggers

Hi all,
I'm running Jdev 11.1.1.0.3 against a 10.3 WLS
I've made a few try with adf faces & I'm running now against a problem looking like memory leak.
I'm working with a parent/child tables in separate showdetailitems container having about 5/6 columns on the child table.
When I run the application it works perfeclty.
If I put 10/12 columns on the child table the application stalled when I go in the child showdetailitem (Retrieving data)
Except if the child table doesn't have more than 3-4 rows (then it works great)
I have another problem with IE7 making objectRequired error on any adf page with partialtrigger.
IE7 say the error is located arround the lines
this.headers= new Object();
this.xmlhttp= new XMLHttpRequest();}
AdfXMLRequest.prototype.toString=function()
in _all-11.1.1.0.0.js file
Any hint on any of the two would be appreciated, I'll try re-installing ie7 meanwhile. ^_^

hi Frank (great tutorials!), Peter.
Frank, Regarding ie7 I've noticed we're not a lot to have this problem, I use firefix meanwhile hoping ie8 fixes the issue. Still I'm ready to fill a SR if you think it's worthwhile.
Peter, Thx for the idea, i've set contentdelivery to immediate & get further errors ^_^
When I clic on the ShowdetailItem (third one) It goes back to the first one with this error (sorry you'll guess I'm french)

When I don't have too much rows, it's still working perfectly

  • APEX 4.1.1 Memory Leak in IE7

    Hi,
    We busy upgrading our apex and db from 3.0/10G to 4.1.1/11.2G and notice that there appears to be a memory leak when using APEX. At one stage we have had IE7 using over a gig of memory.
    When you load or refresh your page IE7 seems to grab on average 2-5MB of memory for each page load. At first we thought it may have been our apps or setup but this also happens when we go to app 4550 page 1 on apex.oracle.com.
    How to replicate:
    Open task manager to view the Memory Usage.
    Using IE7
    1. Go to http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=4550:1
    2. Go back to Task Manager and note the readings once the CPU Usage for iexplore.exe has stablised to 0.
    3. go back to IE7 and press F5
    4. Repeat steps 2-3 and you will see the Memory usage increases.
    We think this maybe due to a few jQuery UI memory leaks within IE7 and thought this bug ticket maybe of interest http://bugs.jqueryui.com/ticket/7666 (Slightly different versions but similiar experiences)
    Could someone else confirm that they also experience the increasing or have had similiar problems and managed to resolve it?
    TBH, it wouldn't be an issue to use another browser like Firefox to access the builder but this also affects the applications if they include APEX standard Javascript and CSS.
    Thanking you in advance.

Don't have exact steps for replication or precise numbers, but I have noticed this in passing. On the junk that my client considers a PC suitable for web development the typical IE7 memory footprint with the APEX 3.0 builder and several other tabs running is about 52MB. Add APEX 4.1.1 and it climbs constantly until I have to pull the plug when it gets north of 150MB as the PC can't take it.
    As well that I also have Firefox and 4.1.1 is still experimental at that site...
    At the moment I don't have to resolve it and if I did the only option I'd propose is the replacement of IE7.

    I saw that eariler this week. I do agree with the concept though.So take appropriate action: charge extra for IE7 support.
    The amount of work and effort involved in making our website look normal on IE7 equalled the combined time of designing for Chrome, Safari and Firefox.Is entirely accurate. If it's stated as a requirement, itemise it as an extra on the quote.
    Educate management and bean counters: show them the one line of standards-compliant CSS that's all that is necessary in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Opera (and just possibly in IE8/9/10), how it isn't supported in IE7, and the tortuous hacks and workarounds that are required to get something equivalent working there.

  • JSF: partial page rendering is causing memory leak leading to outofmemory

    JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.0
    JDK: 1.6.0_06
    Operating System: Windows XP.
    I test my application for memory leaks. For that purpose, I use jconsole to monitor java heap space. I have an edit page that has two dependent list components. One displays all countries and the other displays cities of the selected country.
    I noticed java heap space keeps growing as I change country from country list.
    I run garbage collection and memory usage does not go down. If I keep changing the province for 5 minutes, then I hit a java heap space outofmemory exception.
    To narrow down the problem, I removed the second city component and the problem still exists.
    To narrow it down further, I removed autosubmit attribute from the country component and then memory usage stopped increasing as I change country.
    country/city partial page rendering is just an example. I am able to reproduce the same problem on every page where i use partial page rendering. My conclusion is PPR is causing memory leak or at least the autosubmit attribute.
    This is really bad. Anyone out there experienced same issue. Any help/advice is highly appreciated !!

    Samsam,
    I haven't seen this problem myself, no.
    To clarify - are you seeing this behaviour when running your app in JDeveloper, or when running in an application server? If in JDeveloper, a copuple of suggestions:
    * (may not matter, but...) It's not supported to run JDev 10g with JDK 6
    * have you tried the [url http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/masterj2ee/j2ee_wk11.html]memory profiler

  • There seems to be serious flash memory leak in ie7

    Hi.. I have run into a serious memory leak issue with flash on
    internet explorer 7.0.5730.13 (everything works with firefox). It can be
    seen clearly browsing open flash charts site. Here are steps to
    reproduce:
    1) go to
    http://www.websector.de/blog/2007/10/01 ... wsmonitor/
    2) click start on WSMonitor
    3) File->New Window paste following address in address bar and click
    enter: http://teethgrinder.co.uk/open-flash-ch ... hollow.php
    4) click from chart to chart and see each time how memory increases...
    This does not happen with firefox.
    Independently to trouble shoot it wasn't any code I confirmed by making an swf file with actionscript with simply following:
    package  {
    import flash.display.Sprite;
         public class main extends Sprite {
              public function main() {
                   trace("starting3");

    hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

  • Memory leak when browsing through records

    Hello,
    I have a problem with any page containing the component related to each other on three or more levels. (1st level ADF Table, 2nd level ADF Table and 3rd level ADF Form)
    By navigating through the records of the first level, there is refreshment at other levels (using partial triggers), but suddenly there is loss of memory (memory leak) for components of type Select One Choice.
    Precisely, the problem appears when browsing another Show Detail Item in the same page.

    Hi,
    the screenshot does not indicate a memory leak. Memory leaks show by the server memory consumption that leads to slow performance or stale applications. Your issue seems to be different from that and doesn't really explain in the screen shots. If you have a support contract then customer support is the recommendation I like to give

  • Memory Leak Issue With Win7 64 bit and Youtube.

    I have a Win7 64 bit using IE9 with version 11.4.402.265 installed. 4 MB installed.
    Whenever I go to Youtube or Liveleak, and watch videos, over time it uses up to 4gigs of my memory! Even if I close the window, it does not free up the memory until I Ctrl/Alt/Delete and shut down the window(s).
    I normally only keep open 1-2 windows. Google toolbar is about the only thing installed. I can open 5 and more tabs, but as long as the site does not use flash, I don't have issues and each window usually uses under 200k memory watching them in task manager.
    When I go to open and watch a youtube video, it slowly climbs to 200k and within an hour, I can be at 2 gigs or more memory and up to 4 gigs within 2 hours (or sometimes much sooner). Closing the window does not release the memory until I end task on it and then after a minute or so, the memory seems to clear and everything is back to normal.
    I searched the forums and seems lots of users, report memory leaks, some using yahoo toolbar installed, which is not my case. I do use yahoo as my e-mail address, no idea if that is related or not. I had the same issue when I had the prior Flash version installed, this has been going on for months. Right now having only this window open, using 129, 192 memory. If I open one more window (using the 64 or 32 bit browser) and start youtube, the memory in that window keeps climbing about 50-100kb a second, so it adds up quickly. I have kaspersky running in the background and that is about it other then my nvida driver setup.
    Really frustrating that so many people here and across the internet have reported this. I did have IE8 a few weeks ago and still had the same issue, upgraded to IE9 to see if that helped.
    Interesting side note, if I pause a video, it slows way down on the memory leak, but still rises at a slower pace. I don't know if this is an IE thing or Flash. I have had this setup since 2009 and don't recall having issues with IE7. I use Youtube so much as a teaching instrument as a music teacher, so constantly have lessons going on it.
    Thanks and hope someone has come up with something. I also build computers and have done some programming, so I could modify a file if needed with clear instructions.

    This could be similar to bug https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3334814

  • My iMac keeps crashing due to a memory leak....  Any thoughts on what this means?

    I'll be using my iMac (27" late 2009) and it will suddenly cut to black.  Then after a second or two, a grey screen will appear and tell me an issue occured and to push any key to restart.  Once the computer restarts, the issue report pops up and it says I have a memory leak.  I don't know what that means, or how to fix it.  Any thoughts on the cause of why it's doing this, or the impending doom it may be heralding?  I've posted the issue report below incase anyone can glean anything from it.  Thanks for your help.

  • Custom MediaStreamSource and Memory Leaks During SampleRequested

    Greetings,
    I have a nasty memory leak problem that is causing me to pull my hair out.
    I'm implementing a custom MediaStreamSource along with MediaTranscoder to generate video to disk. The frame generation operation occurs in the SampleRequested handler (as in the MediaStreamSource example). No matter what I do - and I've tried a
    ton of options - inevitably the app runs out of memory after a couple hundred frames of HD video. Investigating, I see that indeed GC.GetTotalMemory reports an increasing, and never decreasing, amount of allocated RAM.
    The frame generator in my actual app is using RenderTargetBitmap to get screen captures, and is handing the buffer to MediaStreamSample.CreateFromBuffer(). However, as you can see in the example below, the issue occurs even with a dumb allocation
    of RAM and no other actual logic. Here's the code:
    void _mss_SampleRequested(Windows.Media.Core.MediaStreamSource sender, MediaStreamSourceSampleRequestedEventArgs args)
    if ( args.Request.StreamDescriptor is VideoStreamDescriptor )
    if (_FrameCount >= 3000) return;
    var videoDeferral = args.Request.GetDeferral();
    var descriptor = (VideoStreamDescriptor)args.Request.StreamDescriptor;
    uint frameWidth = descriptor.EncodingProperties.Width;
    uint frameHeight = descriptor.EncodingProperties.Height;
    uint size = frameWidth * frameHeight * 4;
    byte[] buffer = null;
    try
    buffer = new byte[size];
    // do something to create the frame
    catch
    App.LogAction("Ran out of memory", this);
    return;
    args.Request.Sample = MediaStreamSample.CreateFromBuffer(buffer.AsBuffer(), TimeFromFrame(_FrameCount++, _frameSource.Framerate));
    args.Request.Sample.Duration = TimeFromFrame(1, _frameSource.Framerate);
    buffer = null; // attempt to release the memory
    videoDeferral.Complete();
    App.LogAction("Completed Video frame " + (_FrameCount-1).ToString() + "\n" +
    "Allocated memory: " + GC.GetTotalMemory(true), this);
    return;
    It usually fails around frame 357, with GC.GetTotalMemory() reporting 750MB allocated.
    I've tried tons of work-arounds, none of which made a difference. I tried putting the code that allocates the bytes in a separate thread - no dice.  I tried Task.Delay to give the GC a chance to work, on the assumption that it just had no time
    to do its job. No luck.
    As another experiment, I wanted to see if the problem went away if I allocated memory each frame, but never assigned it to the MediaStreamSample, instead giving the sample (constant) dummy data. Indeed, in that scenario, memory consumption stayed
    constant. However, while I never get an out-of-memory exception, RequestSample just stops getting called around frame 1600 and as a result the transcode operation never actually returns to completion.
    I also tried taking a cue from the SDK sample which uses C++ entirely to generate the frame. So I passed the buffer as a Platform::Array<BYTE> to a static Runtime extension class function I wrote in C++.
    I won't bore you with the C++ code, but even directly copying the bytes of the array to the media sample using memcpy still had the same result! It seems that there is no way to communicate the contents of the byte[] array to the media sample without
    it never being released.
    I know what some will say: the difference between my code and the SDK sample, of course, is that the SDK sample generates the frame _entirely_ in C++, thus taking care of its own memory allocation and deallocation. Because I want to get
    the data from RenderTargetBitmap, this isn't an option for me. (As a side note, if anyone knows if there's a way to get the contents of an RT Window using DirectX, that might work too, but I know this is not a C++ forum, so...). But more importantly,
    MediaStreamSource and MediaStreamSample are managed classes that appear to allow you to generate custom frames using C# or other managed code. The MediaStreamSample.CreateFromBuffer function appears to be tailored for exactly what I want. But there appears
    to be no way to release the buffer when giving the bytes to the MediaStreamSample. At least none that I can find.
    I know the RT version of these classes are new to Windows 8.1, but I did see other posts going back 3 years discussing a similar issue in Silverlight. That never appears to have been resolved.
    I guess the question boils down to this: how do I safely get managed data, allocated during the SampleRequested handler, to the MediaStreamSample without causing a memory leak? Also, why would the SampleRequested handler just stop getting called
    out of the blue, even when I artificially eliminate the memory leak problem?
    Thanks so much for all input!

    Hi Rob -
    Thanks for your quick reply and for clarifying the terminology.
    In the Memory Usage test under Analyze/Performance and Diagnostics (is that what you mean?) it's clear that each frame of video being created is not released from memory except when memory consumption gets very high. GC will occasionally kick in, but eventually
    it succumbs.
    Interestingly, if I reduce the frame size substantially, say 320x240, it never runs out of RAM no matter how many frames I throw at it. The Memory Usage test, however, shows the same pattern. But this time the GC can keep up and release the RAM.
    After playing with this ad nauseum,  I am fairly convinced I know what the problem is, but the solution still escapes me. It appears that the Transcoder is requesting frames from the MediaStreamSource (and the MediaStreamSource is providing them via
    my SampleRequested handler) faster than the Transcoder can write them to disk and release them. Why would this be happening? The MediaStreamSource.BufferTime property is - I thought - used to prevent this very problem. However, changing the BufferTime seems
    to have no effect at all - even changing it to ZERO doesn't change anything. If I'm right, this would explain why the GC can't do its job - it can't release the buffers I'm giving to the Transcoder via SampleRequested because the Transcoder won't give them
    up until it's finished transcoding and writing them to disk. And yet the transcoder keeps requesting samples until there's no more memory to create them with.
    The following code, which I made from scratch to illustrate my scenario, should be air-tight according to everything I've read. And yet, it still runs out of memory when the frame size is too large.
    If you or anyone else can spot the problem in this code, I'd be thrilled to hear it. Maybe I'm omitting a key step with regard to getting the deferral? Or maybe it's a bug in the back-end? Can I "slow down" the transcoder and force it to release samples
    it's already used?
    Anyway here's the new code, which other than App.cs is everything. So if I'm doing something wrong it will be in this module:

    Again, I can't see any reason why this shouldn't work. You'll note it mirrors pretty closely the sample in the Windows 8.1 Apps With Xaml Unleashed book (Chapter 14). The difference is I'm feeding the samples to a transcoder rather than a MediaElement (which,
    again should be no issue).
    Thanks again for any suggestions!

  • TestStand 3.1 Report Memory Leak

    Hi everyone,
    I been looking at the memory usage of my TestStand code lately.  I noticed I have a memory leak with On The Fly Reporting using XML report file.  I'm currenlty using labview 7.1.1 and TestStand 3.1f for development.   I came about this program from seeing test station go to a snails crawl.  The program starts out around 100MB and will keep growing using up all the systems memory, the largest I seen was 500MB.   What is happening is the testers like to keep the on the fly report screen up during the test  and not view the execusion window.  At the end of each run the program will grow 10MB to 30MB.    I know the problem can be solved by turning off on the fly reporting, but I would like to try find a programing option first.
    I have looked at the other forum entries about:
    Turning off database collection
    Editing  model options : ModelOptions.DiscardUnusedResults = True and Parameters.ModelOptions.NumTestSockets = 1
    Adjusted the array size of the report to 300
    None of the options seem to have worked for me, most the post say move to teststand 3.1 cause it an 3.0 issue.
    I was wondering if there are any other options to try  in teststand, or any way to turn off/close IE to release memory between tests.
    I'm currently running the code on Windows XP SP2
    IE6/IE7 depending on the test station
    P4 or Centrino  with 512MB to 1GB of ram
    The GUI window is a modifed  example of the basic VI EXE that calls teststand
    The code is installed using labview and Teststand  deployment builders, so the test machine are using runtime labview 7.1.1  and runtime TestStand 3.1
    Thanks to any one who can offer alittle extra help on the topic

    Actually the reports are XML not HTML.
    There are alot of pass steps, usualy after a couple of failed steps, the sequence will terminate.
    The memory leak seem to exaggerated, since the technicians like to view the Reports Tab instead of Execution Tab when running program.  If the operator keeps the view on the execution tab during the program, the report screen is not being updated, so less memory is taken up.  Since the techs like to keep the report screen up during the entire test, the xml file constantly being update and  the program increases +50MB after the first run.   So turning off Reports on the fly, they can not view the report during the test and the memory usuage stays low.
    I do not see a leak at all if I do not click on the reports tab,  and the leak seems to only happen with XML files, TXT and HTML reports do not cause a memory leak, even when viewed on the fly for the entire test.   I wanted to keep XML-expandable cause it easier to see what sequences failed then scanning through the entire report.
    I'm using Test UUT call up the test.    The executable terminated if you press the exit button on the executable.  After test is finished, the standard Pass/Fail comes up then the standard  enter UUT serial number comes up.
    I'm including the reports option INI  I use .
    Thanks for you help in this matter, sorry being little late with replying.

  • IOS - Strange memory leak using ABPeoplePickerNavigationController

    Hi there!.
    I 've read other posts regarding this problem but I wasn't capable of guessing what's going on with this memory leak.
    To keep it simple, let's say I have an IBAction which triggers once the user has pressed a button. The code is as follows:
    - (IBAction) showBorrowersPicker:(id)sender{
    ABPeoplePickerNavigationController *picker =
    [[ABPeoplePickerNavigationController alloc] init];
    picker.peoplePickerDelegate = self;
    [self presentModalViewController:picker animated:YES];
    [picker release];
    The code works fine but it leaks a small quantity of memory and I can't understand why. I think it's a problem with the ABPeoplePickerNavigationController because if I comment the line "self presentModalViewController.picker animated:YES" it obviously doesn't present the modal view with the AB's contacts but the app continues leaking memory.
    I've read it might be a reported bug but the post where I've read it is from 2009 or so. I don't know if the bug persists of, more likely, I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what. I'm releasing the picker instance so I don't know why is it leaking memory.
    Running Instruments I get the following info:
    Leaked Object: ABStyleProvider
    Address: 0x19f810
    Size: 16 Bytes
    Responsible Library: AddressBookUI
    Responsible Frame: +[ABStyleProvider
    Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi George,
    thank you very much!. I've tried it and seems to work perfectly. No memory leaks at all!. A couple of weeks ago I was working with Apple's QuickContacts source code and it had the same problem with this strange memory leak so I think it's really weird since I can't believe that Apple's engineers would commit such an error... but who knows!
    Thank you very much for your help! :-D

  • Memory leaks in Lion?

    I have a 2008 21-inch iMac, and a 2010 MacBook Pro, both with 4 GB RAM, running OS X Lion 10.7.3. Ever since I installed Lion, I've had this problem of available memory dwindling to almost nothing (10-20 MB) after a day or so of usage. Last night I went to bed and the MacBook Pro had 400 MB available (according to Activity Monitor) and when I woke up this morning it was nearly frozen with only 10 MB available.
    I'm not an extreme techie but I've been working in the IT world for over 30 years, including 3 years with Apple, and in my experience this situation is called a Memory Leak. If it were just one of my systems I would suspect something local, but they both behave the same way. (My partner's machine does the same thing.) I've installed the 3rd-party app Memory Freer, which frees up 6-800 GB each time I run it. But as time goes on the memory fills back up again more quickly, and finally I have to reboot.
    Checking Activity Monitor, it's not just one app that takes up memory - they all seem to grow over time. (Mail, iPhoto, iTunes, Word, Chrome, etc.) Chrome seems to be the worst offender, with a plethora of Worker and Renderer processes grabbing 10-80 MBs for each open window - and I often leave 10-15 open at any given time. But all apps' memory usage grows over time, even if I haven't accessed them - witness last night's spontaneous bloat on my MacBook.
    I've read a couple of other threads on Memory Leaks, but most point to a single app or just suggest Memory Freer. Does Apple know it's got a major league problem here? Are they doing anything about it?
    One other point - I get the spinning ball on a lot of tasks, most often with Word and and Excel re-calc, which can last 3-5 seconds, and is another indicator of system overload, even when I've cleared the memory with MemoryFreer and there is supposedly several hundred GB of RAM available. This issue lessens after reboot, but is almost constant with Microsoft Office apps.

    which apparently indicates that there are no kernel extensions running.
    That means you don't hve any non-Apple kernel extension. There are still lots of other possibilities for third party interference. Are you running any kind of anti-virus or clean-up software? Those aren't needed and will likely just cause problems.
    I understand what you're all saying about unused memory going to waste, but for MacOS to operate "correctly" it would need to free up previously-allocated memory as it is needed by other or new applications, and it doesn't seem to be doing that. It's just acting like it's out of memory, with all processes slowing to a crawl.
    "Free"? You are still looking at memory. If all processes are slowing to a crawl, then that is a problem worth investigating. If you can't get past the assumption that memory is the cause, you'll never figure it out.
    I did check CPU utilization as well, and it's rarely over 25%. However, on one of my systems, Page Outs were about equal to Page Ins, substantially over the 10% "healthy" threshold that was suggested. So I upgraded to 10.7.4, and Page Outs are down in the acceptable range. The overnight bloat also seems to have gone away, but each app still creeps up with time, albeit more slowly now.
    I too would like to return to the days of 10.6 where I didn't reboot for days - or weeks - and Microsoft apps didn't display spinning wheels with each reactivation task or any simple calculation or text move.
    So, in other words, you fixed the memory problem but the performance issues remain. That tells me that it isn't a memory problem.
    Also, because you seem unwilling to look past memory, I'm unwilling to accept your CPU usage claims. Sometimes it takes several attempts before I can get people to setup Activity Monitor correctly to see exactly what is going on with their systems. That is step 1. We haven't made it to step 1 yet.
    It seems clear that Lion's new process model is at least partially to blame here. With two completely different systems running (work MacBook, home iMac) plus my work partner's MacBook experiencing all the same symptoms, it's not likely my own setup. So I've also ordered an upgrade to 8 GB RAM.
    Here's the rub. If low memory isn't the cause, buying more won't help.
    I guess I'm just not accustomed to hating a new MacOS release, but between these performance problems and the inexplicable need to Duplicate TextEdit documents in order to do a Save-As (yeah, I know, Versioning is a great idea, blah blah - please get rid of it anyway) I really, really hate Lion.
    It's just an operating system and doesn't care how you feel. I strongly suspect that feeling is more the explanation of any issues you have. I hate Linux. I really do. Therefore, I don't use it. While I would love to help you figure out what is wrong with your machine, that will only work if you meet me halfway and help look. If you have already identified the cause, then you don't need my help. The problem is Lion. Erase your hard drive and the problem will be gone.

  • 1.3 memory leak?

    Hi all, I set my LR 1.3 on Vista to create all standard thumbnails on about 20,000 images, and when I came back it was using 700MB memory, and as it was going I saw memory use increase. When I quit and restarted LR was using 190MB. Maybe a memory leak somewhere?
    Regards,
    Cor

    Hi Jeff, it is the fact that I do actually have a grasp of how system allocation, memory management and resource management works that I, without any evil plot to make LR seem bad, tried to point out what could possibly be a problem. If it isn't then im glad, and no need to make me need to put on my flame resistant suit.
    When I see an application doing 1 thing in a loop, in this case creating previews, and at every iteration of that loop use more memory, I thought id ask if thats supposed to happen. In many applications that is a big hint towards a memory leak. Granted, like Matteo I have zero experience in the windows environment, but im pretty fluent in several programming languages on unix systems. Things probably work a lot different there.
    I immediately believe you when you say thats not the case here, but as a techie im interested nonetheless. What's it adding to memory every loop iteration? A memory footprint of 700MB doesnt phase me one bit, I was merely triggered by the slow increase of it after every conversion.
    Regards,
    Cor

  • MacBook crashing every so often with a some sort of memory leak? Need help to pinpoint cause.

    I've only owned this Macbook for about 4 months now and it has started giving me this save memory leak issue every so often. I am not 100% sure if this is the proper place to post this kind of stuff, but I've tried to uninstall some things that I've added in the last month (which is when it started). No luck.
    Can anyone tell what it might be just by looking?

    I'm sorry to have conveyed that impression. I do very much like EtreCheck, but it is completely misused by too many people who seem to think it's the answer to all problems. If is excellent for what it does. I helped beta test it for the developer. But it's a tool best used when a helper specifically asks for it when it is needed. That isn't for kernel panics. It may well be that some software can cause the panic, but the panic itself is generally in hardware. You can see that in the first few lines of the report. I urge you to learn more about them:
    Mac OS X- How to log a kernel panic
    OS X- About kernel panics
    Technical Note TN2063- Understanding and Debugging Kernel Panics
    Tutorial - Avoiding and eliminating Kernel panic
    What's a "kernel panic"? (Mac OS X)
    OSXFAQ - Troubleshooting Kernel Panics
    Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics.
    You will find a wealth of information about panics in the above references. There are many panic reports that simply don't give us any clues as to their root cause. They can be frustrating to deal with. But when someone is having a kernel panic EtreCheck is simply not the tool you whip out first or even second.
    Good luck learning and a Happy New Year.

  • Flash Player - memory leak

    I have created a AS2 script that plays 6 FLV movies one right
    after the other... and never stop..
    After about 10-15 minutes of looping the videos appear to
    start playing choppy.
    all flv movies reside on the local machine
    Would this not happen if i rewrite the script in AS 3?
    is there a way to refresh only the flashplayer and not the
    entire IE7 page?
    is there a known memory leak in using the flashplayer?

    It is hard to say what is causing it. Can you post the code?
    My first guess is that you might be creating a new instance of a
    video clip everytime one is called up. This would sort of stack
    your videos into memory and never really delete from memory, the
    previous video clip. So while you see only one video at a time,
    Flash sees it as you are just putting one video on top of the
    other. Once the RAM starts filling up...the program grinds to a
    halt.
