Menus switching, hanging sounds etc.

I think my poor mac has been infected with a malware of some kind.
When I click the apple icon in the top left, the menus start moving to the right untill it reaches the end, then starts over. It is impossible to click the choice I want. When I click the desktop, it selects the first icon, if i click several times, it just select the same icon again.
Sometimes it makes a sound like a cd hanging, over and over again.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for all the help I may get:-)

Haha, I found the reason.
I have a Apple Bluetoth Keyboard, this is connected to my iPad. When i turn the bluetoth off at the iPad, the keyboard is searching for other devices to connect to. It was earlyer connected to my mac, an therfor it always connect. When the keyboard lies in a bag and maybe some of the keys are pressed it makes the mac look like it's having a virus of some kind.
The solution is to remove the keyboard completely from the bluetoth devices.

I have such problem, at iphone 4s connection to itunes there is a synchronization well and after iphone is frozen and the woman explaining the instruction starts to speak (How to unblock how to switch off a sound, etc.). iphone reacts to one team, and the woman tells everything and speaks. I took iphone from a wire, but it didn't react. At attempt to switch off it it is switched off, but deletes all files which only existed on this device. What to do and how to solve this problem?

  • Mac Mini HDMI into AV HDMI Switch - Lose sound when monitor is shutoff

I'd like to use the Mac Mini to listen to internet radio and have the display shutoff. I have the Mini's HDMI output cable connected to Yamaha audio video home theater receiver that acts as a HDMI switch from various HDMI inputs (blue ray player, xbox, and mac mini). A single HDMI output from the av receiver goes to my Samsung flat screen TV.
All works well (I have the system preferences sound option set to hdmi on the Mini) until I shut off the TV. Then the sound that was going to the AV receiver shuts off and the mini switches its sound output back to its internal speaker.
Can't find a way around it. Appreciate an answer if anyone has one.
Reading the booklet that came with the Mini regarding HDMI output, it appears that Apple assumes that cable is going directly to a monitor. I'm wondering if the Mini gets a signal that monitor goes off (via the av receiver) the designers didn't factor the av receiver's capability to continue handling the sound.

When the TV is turned off or disconnected from the Mac, or if you are using an AV Receiver also when the AV Receiver is switched to a different source than the Mac, the result is that the Mac no longer sees a signal on the HDMI interface. The Mac will then deactive the HDMI interface and switch the sound back to the built-in speaker.
The best solution involves spending money, and is to buy a Gefen HDMI Detective+. This learns the signal from the TV and will keep sending it to the Mac even if the TV is turned off, unplugged or the AV Receiver switches the connection.

    Hello gail from Ajijic,
If you'd like to change the audio output of your Mac, you can do so by accessing the Sound preferences in your System Preferences.
Before you start, open the Output pane of Sound preferences (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, then click Output).
    Choose a sound output device
From the list of sound output devices, select the one you want to use. All sound output devices available to your Mac are listed, including the computer’s internal speakers, devices plugged into your computer’s sound port (), USB speakers, and AirPlay devices.
For any device plugged into the computer’s sound port, choose Headphones.

  • Switching from Sound Forge Studio

I'm thinking of switching from Sound Forge Studio to Soundtrack Pro for recording/editing our in-house audio training programs. (We provide business development training for the computer consulting industry.)
Can you provide any insight on the pros/cons of doing so?
What kind of learning curve should I expect?
Again with just recording/editing teleseminars, our audio needs are very basic. So do you think it'll be worth it to make the switch?
    Thanks,
    Joshua Feinberg

Not really an answer but something to think about: Soundtrack Pro is not a stand alone application. I believe the only way you can purchase it now is part of the Final Cut Studio 2 package ~$1300. Unless you have need for Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Motion and so on, it is a very pricey deal.
Of course you should also understand that it runs only on Macs.
Hopefully you'll get some good answers from the regulars about the capabilities of the program.

  • My phone won't go on silent. I have turned the phone off and on, I have switched the sound switch but the sound will not go off, please help!

I got a brand new I phone from the apple store three weeks ago and my silent button had just stopped working, I have the latest hardware and update. I have turned the phone on and off as well as switched the sound on and off many times but the sound wont go off.

You shouldn't lose anything because its all saved on the internet. Since you're using an account. It will all still be there if you delete the app, reinstall it and log back in.
Deleting the app should work, but if it doesn't, you will usually have to wait for a bug fix app update. Every time your app crashes it sends a report to instagram and they try and fix the problem, so the bug fix update shouldn't take too long.

  • LR2 stalls, hangs, crashes, etc.

I've been using the LR2 trial rather intensely over the past couple of days. I was hoping to avoid upgrading, but after looking at the Adobe Camera Standard profiles, the output sharpening, the gradient filters, etc. it won me over. I haven't actually bought it quite yet though, and I'm starting to second guess myself due to a whole host of random issues it seems to be struggling with (coming from a long-time LR1 user).
    - Unexplained slowness sometimes in generating web photo galleries. It's generating a gallery as I write this in fact, and I just watched it spend ten seconds on writing a single HTML file. It spent about the same amount of time writing a CSS file. It hasn't even started on exporting images, and it's been running for over five minutes now. The web gallery preview area clears and refreshes every so often. I have no idea why, and that's obviously not normal behavior. At this rate, it's going to end up taking 15+ minutes to generate a gallery with thirty images in it - all from low-res old digital camera JPEG files so it's not even converting from RAW or anything like that.
    - Sometimes the web gallery generation will appear to not do anything at all for quite some time. i.e. I press the Export button, enter the folder name, hit Save, and... nothing seems to happen. If I look in the output folder area, I'll see that it has actually created the new folder and a 'content' subfolder but done nothing else. There's no discernible activity, and I can poke around in other parts of LR just fine. If I'm patient, it may actually start doing something in a couple of minutes. Or it may not, and I'll end up restarting LR instead. Who knows.
    - Painfully slow importing of JPEGs. I had about 150 old JPEGs from a three megapixel digital camera to import. It took over ten minutes to import half of them, and at that point LR froze entirely. I had to kill the LR process manually, restart the program, and import the rest... which took another ten minutes. Though it did at least finish that batch.
    - Other hangs. I did a mass application of the new Adobe Camera Standard profile to a bunch of RAW photos, and wanted to refresh their preview images. So I left it doing this overnight. Unfortunately it hung somewhere along the way, so it only got about 15% of them done. So I restarted it that morning to do the same thing... and came home from work to discover that it had hung again. *sigh* I have no idea how many attempts it would actually take to get all the preview images updated.
    - I've also had some issues where I'd start something running within LR, and the entire application would start flashing out of existence and then back periodically. This might happen a half dozen times, before I get sufficiently annoyed and minimize the application hoping that it might actually continue its work.
Now it doesn't always do these things. Since I started writing this, I have in fact managed to generate a couple more web galleries which were created very quickly with no problems. I have no idea why it was an issue for the other galleries. What it means unfortunately is that I have no faith in LR2 for anything. Each time I generate a web gallery, I'm going to be crossing my fingers hoping it behaves itself. Similarly for just about any major operation, or even a simple import. That's no way to work.

Jeff, thanks for your comment that deleting the preference file is "troubleshooting 101" (
Jeff Schewe, "LR2 stalls, hangs, crashes, etc." #3, 7 Aug 2008 1:33 pm)
    My question is this:
Given the words "preference" and "file" but with no knowledge of the actual file, how do I find it?
    I'm not asking
    i where
    it is, I'm asking
    i how
I would find it if I didn't know.
    I tried:
    Using LR help
Going to LiveDocs (a link on the LR help page)
    typing "ls -R | grep -i pref"
    (which gave me AgPrefUtils.lua, AgPreferencesWin.lua,
    LrPrefs.lua, PrefsWindow.lua from within
    /Applications/Lightroom.app)
    searching these fora
posting a question in these fora and waiting 48 hours
googling "adobe lightroom preference file", which took
me to an Adobe knowledgebase article that finally told
me the file adobe.com.Lightroom.plist would be in
    ~/Library/Preferences on Mac OSX.
Given that I've seen it referenced many times, I'm surprised that in my hour of need it was so difficult to locate. I politely suggest that there is at least a case for putting a link to the knowledgebase article in the help files.
I actually think Adobe need to acknowledge that not everyone is online all the time, and perhaps include a comment along the lines of the "troubleshooting 101"
i in the LR help files!

  • Switching Users. Have to uninstall and reinstall loops and sounds etc?

I'm using Garageband 3 on a 2.16 Ghz iMac 24" which I recently took over from my wife. (Convinced her she didn't need it. I had been using it under her user User Account, but now that I'm using it all the time I set up my own account. Garageband still loads, but a bunch of the songs I was working on couldn't find their loops, etc. When I opened the loop browser I realized all the various extra jampacks, and 3rd parts sounds and loops I'd installed are not being seen by Garageband.
Do I need to uninstall and reinstall them to make it work properly? Or is there a simple way to have them in the right place in my User Account?
    Thanks!

When keeping loops on an external, can they be kept anywhere?
    Yes.
And do you set a place for loops to be installed in Garageband, the way you set a place in iTunes for it's library to be located and for new imported or puchased music to be located?
    No.
If not, do you just intall new instruments/loops etc. and then move the files it creates to the external?
No. Just move the Loops where you want them, and then delete your Index files, and re-index them (Hang's link).
And how do you know if you got them all?
Do a search for "Apple Loops". These are the folders where your Loops are.

    Hi
First post, and im hoping someone can PLEASE help me.
    Im currently using the following:
MSI K8T Neo FISR-2 Mobo (pretty sure thats it)
    64 AMD 3200+
    512 DDR @ 333
    2 IDE HDs
    GEXCUBE 9600XT etc etc
Now problem 1) I use my computer for work alot, i.e I use Microsoft word, and im typing away getting alot of work done when all of a sudden, blank screen, it acts like i havent touched anything and just powered down the monitor, but no matter what i do i cant get it back up and thus i have to reboot. (This occurs after around 15 odd minutes of work on word)
-Ive tried everything i can think of, updated whatever, even taken to computer places and they have no idea, rebooted CMOS, havent update BIOS cause im scared but if you got any ideas let me know
Problem 2) not as bad as the first but my sound, using onboard AC97 and Logitech Z640s i have this weird static shitty background scrathcy noise which is annoying, and i cant get it cleared up.
-Tried updating drivers etc, sounds not maxed out, even get the sound when i switch off the speakers and plug in my headphonse so...
If you can help on either of these things please either reply here or email me on [email protected]
    THANKYOU!!!

I personally have a AIW9600Pro and haven't experience the aforementioned problems, so I don't know what to add, but I'm sure these folks at Rage3D forums can help.  It's already upto 15 pages, so there must be some useful info in there...
For statics, I find that by turning off Mic Gain (or sometimes called Mic Boost) from your Windows Volume control sometimes does the trick.  If you use extension cables, you might want to check for interference, too.

  • G4 Hangs, Sounds like an Airplane Taking Off

My G4 has been running smoothly on Leopard so far. Lately, though, it has started hanging often... no spinning wheel, no opportunity to force quit... it literally freezes. I hold down the power button to turn it off and then on reboot the fan goes crazy... sounds like an airplane taking off.
I have fixed disk permissions. Reset PMU. Run fsck -fy. And it's still doing it.
I am also running several usb devices through a belkin hub: iPod shuffle, external maxtor 80Gig for time machine, and occasionally a canon powershot camera.
Last time I tried to import photos off the camera it had all kinds of trouble. Had to reboot several times.
I realize this thing is getting old... but my whole life is on it and I can't really replace right now. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Josh

If this is a Mirrored Drive Doors model, the fans are likely working as designed.
There are circuits inside that run the internal fans on their highest setting by default. When the computer is running properly, the software periodically checks the CPU temperature, and sets the fan to an appropriate setting -- almost always less than maximum.
At initial power up, and when the fan hardware is ignored (not turned down) for some large part of a minute, the fan circuits revert to the default, maximum setting to keep the CPU from getting so hot it is damaged. Sure is loud, isn't it!
If you are running 10.4 or later, boot it up (if you can) and check About this Mac > More Info > Diagnostics -- to see if is detecting any failures at startup.

  • Modifying default Project Properties? (Mouse click sound, etc.)

Am I able to configure default properties?
E.g. On every slide of every software demo I create, I have to change the following:
    - Slide quality - High
    - Highlight Box timing - Rest of slide.
    - Mouse click sound - Custom
    - Show mouse click - Custom
    - etc.
Obviously, this is the most time consuming process and it increases my time investment 20-fold.
Have I overlooked something? Google & searching has been no help...which makes me feel like I'm the only one with the problem...which leads me to believe I'm doing something wrong!

If you open the Edit >  Preferences dialog without having any project open, then go to Defaults > Object Defaults, you can set up some of the things you want.  For example, you can change the default duration of highlight boxes.  But this doesn't allow you to configure the mouse or slide settings the way you want for all projects.
I think your best option is just to set up a Captivate template with all the slides done the way you want and use that to initiate each project.

  • Fast User Switching Hangs Computer Following Upgrade from Panther to Tiger

Upgraded my computer (G3 B&W) to Tiger from Panther, and now Fast User Switching doesn't work. Have a family of 5 that shares this computer. Each new user can log in, but when you try to switch back to an open account, the computer hangs. It worked fine in Panther. May be just due to the fact that this is an older Mac - if so, my second question is whether there's a good way to get back to Panther? It worked great on this Mac, and Tiger is noticeably slower. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - Thanks!

    Thanks for the link, baltwo!
This got me some good info on how mail messages are stored in Tiger, but unfortunately, I still can't find the missing messages, which were in the inbox in 10.3, but didn't show up following the 10,4 upgrade. I found the inbox folder, and it only seems to have the current files, can't track down any evidence of the missing files.
Thanks again for the reply - very much appreciated.
