Merge to HDR Pro from Lightroom changing image resolution

Image resolution in PS from a RAW LR transfer is 300ppi but I notice today the final HDR image from a LR transfer of three files is 240ppi.  My preference in PS is set to 300ppi and I don't find a way to set a HDR resolution preference.  I want my final HDR image to be 300ppi - how do I get this?

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
Have you tried both reducing and increasing the Memory Usage in the Performance Prefences?
I tried to work on the exposition of the three photos, but that didn't work.
What does this mean?
Are you using actual bracketed shots?

  • Merge to HDR Pro from Lightroom

I am having trouble with Merge to HDR Pro from Lightroom to Photoshop CC.  I can no longer get the exterior scenery to show clearly in the finished picture that I am adjusting in Lightroom.  I cannot get the highlights adjusted low enough.  Should I not let Photoshop autotone the image before I save it?

Okay, solved my own problem. I bit the bullet and did do a reinstall. I'd remembered that one of the previous Photoshop upgrades had failed (either 12.0.1 or 12.0.2) and I'd never gotten around to fixing it. Looking into that suggested reinstalling as the solution so I figured I should try uninstalling and reinstalling then apply all the upgrades and then try it again.
This time the upgrades did go through properly and I was just able to do a merge to HDR pro successfully so it looks like that's fixed the issue.

  • CS5 Merge to HDR Pro. Cannot see images? Or something else???

    Hello,
I am unable to use the automated Merge to HDR Pro.. at all.
Either from Bridge or PS File >auto>select files etc..
I select the files (tiffs) and click Go/OK whatever and the images appear for a few seconds each , then a transparent layer and then 'nothing'
No message, no error - nothing, just the PS screen??
If I try from Bridge the tools selection of PS brings up a working on images box and then I am told that it could not find any images??
I am trying to follow the video instructions on the adobe site but my CS5 just doesnt do what they say it should.
I have just completed a complete reinstall to no avail.
    Any ideas??
    Thank you.

    Hi:
I had problems until recently with the Merge to HDR.  It seemed to work only in 32 bit mode and in 64 bit I would get crashes.  You might try 32 bit mode for now but ultimately the problem was with corrupt fonts.  When these fonts were trashed, the problem was resolved.

  • Merge to HDR Pro from LR4

I am using LR4 and edit/merge to HDR Pro in CS5. The images appear in CS5 as the processing is going on but then it just terminates and the images disappear from CS5.  This is happening on multiple sets of images not just one set.  I don't know if this is part of the problem but I also get a message as the process is starting on LR that I may need Camera Raw Version 7 but I can't find that anywhere.  Any idea what's going on?
    Thanks

    Hi Bill,
Answers to your questions beow ...
The one thing that I did not see was your HDD setup, and especially how you have your HDD's allocated, with such things as Scratch Disks, etc. That might be useful knowledge.
    -  Just use a single 1TB hard disk, 516GB used and 398GB free.
With Win7-64, the 8GB RAM is a bit light, as Win7-64 is a RAM hog, and Scratch Disks will most likely come into play, and especially with HDR.
    - Can't do much about that as 8GB is the MAX on the motherboard. But again don't have any problems in any other areas and if I do Tone Mapping from the Image -> Adjustments -> HDR Tone Mapping ... menu there aren't any issues.
Now, if you do NOT switch out of PS, while doing an HDR Merge, does it then complete, i.e. is it only when it loses focus, that it hangs?
    - Yes, as long as I don't switch out at all.
What are your PS Memory and Cache settings?
    - Available RAM 7230, Let Photoshop Use: 4338 (60%) (This is the default setting Photoshop chose)
    - Cache Settings, again default: Cache Levels: 4, Cache Tile Size: 1024K.
    Do you have any active-scanning anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-anything running?
    - Yes, Microsoft Security Essentials
Is Windows Indexing ON - though with Win7-64, it has become much less of a problem, than with older OS's?
    - Yes Indexing is on, makes no difference if I turn it off.
What are the Image Size of the HDR Images?
    - As they are from Canon 5D Mk II (ProPhoto RBG, 16 bit, 5616 x 3744 (~21MP) and 300 bit/in) they will open anywhere up to 120MB in TIFF or PSD.
I am not sure but it seems a little similar to the issue with the CA sliders in LR4 Beta when we reverted back to Process 2010 after upgrading to PV2012 unless there is a memory leak somewhere. Again if I use NIK Software HDR Efex pro I don't seem to have any of these issue - (just aligment and ghosting ).
Obviously I have a work around by simply not leaving the HDR Merge window before completing the process, just inconvenient.
    Regards, Don

  • Merge to HDR Pro from LR5. After applying preset and during conversion of file, Iget an error message "Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 has stopped working" and closing PS

In LR5 i do: Merge to HDR Pro. After I apply my preset and PS attempts to convert HDR file, I get an error message from PS: "Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 has stopped working". Then PS Closes.
My source files are 5 NEF files of 28 MB. I select 16-bit, I also tried 8-bit. No difference. Same error message.
    I have a Toshiba Quosmio X870 with Intel i7 3610QM @ 2,30 GHz, 16 GB RAM, Windows 7x64 HP SP 1, 7,3 Performance Index
    Any suggestions?

As the crash report says - your outdated video card driver is crashing. You need to update your video card driver from the GPU maker's website (AMD/ATI in this case).

  • Auto-align Layers and Merge to HDR Pro crashes

    Hi,
Has anybody else experienced crashes with Merge to HDR Pro or Auto-align Layers? I was trying to use Merge to HDR Pro from Lightroom and was experiencing crashes every time after it had opened all of the images and merged them into a single document (but before the HDR Pro dialog box had come up).
I've tested this further with opening each image individually and then trying to merge them as well as via Bridge and always get the same result.
I had then decided to try layering the images and blend them to create my HDR image and that's when I found that Auto-align Layers was crashing as well. This leads me to believe that it's actually the auto-align functionality that's causing the crash rather than Merge to HDR Pro as I'm pretty sure that the merge functionality performs an auto-align as part of its steps.
Any suggestions on how to fix this? I'm wondering if I may have to completely remove Photoshop. I can do this if necessary but if there's some other way to fix this I'd rather try that first.

Okay, solved my own problem. I bit the bullet and did do a reinstall. • Workflow HDRI Pro from Lightroom Question

    Hi,
to combine several images from Lightroom to the new HDR Pro feature in PS CS5 you can use 'Edit in/Merge to HDR Pro' in Lightroom. This will load the images in PS and starts the HDR Pro dialog. My question is: Does this workflow offer the possibility to align the images automatically?
My shots are often made free hand so they have to be aligned in software. How can I merge these shots in Photoshop to HDR Pro *with auto aligning them* ? Load them in PS each shot in a single layer, align, crop, save each layer as an image and load these images in the HDR Pro workflow? There must be an easier way...
    Thanks
    Gerald

Unless the program you Move To, from Lightroom, can Read the edits placed in XMP files created by Lightroom (Or those edits written to the actual RAW file by Lightroom) all that work will be lost.
Adjustments made in one Raw file editor can't be read by some other Raw file editor. They all use different systems to make those adjustments.
What you could do is once you make all the edits you want on any Raw image file Export it to a TIFF file as a Master and never change that Master file. If you need to edit that Master or Raw file make a Copy of it first or once opened in a program like Photoshop select Save As and save it with a different name so the Master file is left as it came out of Lightroom.

  • Color change after merging to HDR Pro, going back into Lightroom

I recently updated Lightroom and now when I "merge to HDR Pro in PS" the photo then comes back into lightroom with highly elevated contrast.  I have set the color options to ProPhotoRGB in Lightroom and Photoshop. and the image looks fine when going from LR to PS, and it looks fine in "preview" after saving the image as a TIFF.  But once that TIFF gets imported back into LR it has all those weird color changes.   I'm not sure what to do, and I never had this problem until I recently updated photoshop and lightroom.  Any help you would be appreciated. thanks!

The image will look different in PS than in LR. PS uses the embedded preview and LR uses the actual 32 bit image data. You need to apply the LR Develop module Basic panel Tone settings to the 32 bit HDR TIFF.

  • Merge to HDR pro is producing very "bleached" and overexposed images.

I don't know why this isn't working, but every single time I attempt to use merge to HDR pro, the result is an ugly bleached out photo, and editing in raw does nothing to help. I have tried using TIFFs, Jpegs, RAW files (all at different exposures from very dark to very light, to capture the entire range, usually 5 separate images), but whenever I select File>>Automate>>merge to HDR Pro, and select the files to use, the result is always really horrible.
Why isn't this working for me? Here's a typical result:
Please, any suggestions. The reason I bought photosop was for the HDR capability, and compatibility with lightroom. Honestly I get better results just blending images using GIMP, or just processing a single RAW file in Lightroom.
It will also sometime go through its process of aligning the pictures and thinking for a few minutes, then just leave me with a blank dark gray workspace, without opning the HDR pro window after working with the images.
Very frustrated. Any suggestions much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rob

Thank you for the reply, Ed. I've delved into the PS preferences as best I could but did not see anything related to this issue. I have ACR set to convert at 240 dpi with ProPhoto color space and have never encountered this problem under typical 16 bit conversions from RAW to psd. For some reason PS sets the document size of 32 bit images to 3.5' x 5' @ 72 dpi which results in an extra step to the already time consuming workflow when creating such images in PS.
Perhaps this is an issue Adobe can address in a future update? They did a good job addressing other issues such as the disappearing RGB data in the info pallette when adjusting images with curves. It appears that the Windows version of PS has too many non-fatal (but annoying) flaws that aren't present in the Mac version.

Merge to HDR Pro does not work in Photoshop 14.2.1. Image appears black. What is the problem?

Attached is screen shot. What happens is I go to File/Automate/Merge to HDR Pro, then select my 3 images, which are flattened psd files (I have tried tifs and jogs too), hit OK, it processes them, but instead of the image appearing, I get this black image. You can see my original images at bottom... jpegs too),

  • Merge to HDR Pro works from Photoshop CS5, not from Bridge

I have three nef files which I want to merge to hdr pro.  If i have them open in PS CS5 and choose to merge them from there, all works.  But if I choose the three in Bridge and use the Tools, Photoshop, Merge to HDR Pro selection from Bridge, all starts out well, but in the end, no HDR dialog box, just the 4 layers, one for each file and the lowest one the HDR layer, but nothing can be done with it since there is no dialog box.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

As far as I know the Abobe Bridge bridge is messed up these days for there is one Adobe bridge cc and two Photoshop CC and CC 2014 Mac can run two versions of Photoshop  at once windows can not how the different bridge interfaces work  I don't know.  Bridge tools are set up with Bridge Startup  Scripts.  On Windows Bridge CC 64bit and Bridge CC 32Bit version both seen to use the start up scripts setup for the 32bit Bridge Bridge CC 64bit does not see what is in the CC 64Bits startup scripts folder.  There are also problems on windows system registry for Photoshop shell commands Open and Edit.   I do not use the Bridge often.  Just use it to edit metadata and syncing batches of RAW File  setting.   I do not use Photoshop from the Bridge.  But seem to be able to For I put Startup scripts in the 32bit location and fixed my windows registry keys for Phoroshop.exe....

  • Merge to HDR pro turns image black

Hi. When I try to merge to HDR pro, the entire photo becomes black. It is still the same photo because when I increase the exposition I can almost make out the original photo. I tried to work on the exposition of the three photos, but that didn't work. I tried everything that I read on the Adobe Forum, but nothing is working. Up until about a month ago, it was working perfectly. I have photoshop cs6 with the latest upgrades and a Mac OS X Version 10.7.5 with 3.4 GHz and 32 GB ram. Thank you, Leonardo

  • Merge to HDR Pro suddenly stopped working

I've notice that this seems to be a problem, but nowhere have I seen an answer that resolved it, so I thought it is worth posting again.  Merge to HDR Pro is why I pay for Adobe CC and if it can't be made to work reliably, I'll stop paying!
    Here is what happens:
3-5 images selected in Photoshop Lightroom
"Edit In" ==>  "Merge to HDR Pro in Photoshop" selected
Photoshop opens and opens the images in separate layers
Photoshop goes through the alignment process
Photoshop clears out all the data and returns to an empty state (rather than opening the Merge to HDR dialogue page).
Now I have had it working perfectly for months, all of a sudden yesterday, in the middle of a session it stopped working.
If I use Photoshop to File | Automate | Merge to HDR Pro, same process happens - does everthing except the critical step of taking you into the HDR window.
I'm using Windows 7 with an Intel i7 processor and 8GB memory, most allowed by Photoshop.  Nothing changed to cause the problem.
Adobe - need this resolved urgently please.  Thanks.

I have also encountered this problem today working with a batch of .NEF files, using File > Automate > Merge to HDR in CC 2014. Same problem running from the Bridge > Tools menu. I suspected an issue with scene complexity for alignment until I checked this post.
The first merge processed fine. A subsequent one failed at the point of aligning the source Layers and did not pass to the Tone Mapping dialog. Re-trying the original batch then also failed - Huh ?
I tried an archive set of brackets and they worked OK. I also converted the .NEFs >  .PSDs and that worked OK.
I would be interested if the O/P or yourself would try a merge from the following :

  • Merge to HDR Pro asking (incorrectly?) to manually set EV

    Hi,
I've got a large number of HDRI brackets for a time-lapse sequence, and while using Merge to HDR Pro in CC, some are merging to HDR automatically, while other bracket sets result in Photoshop asking me to manually set EV.
All of my images are TIFs, all have gone through an identical process of saving to TIF from Lightroom after being worked on with Lightroom and LRTimelapse, so one of these two programs could potentially be having an effect.
Normally I would assume that being asked to manually set EV means that metadata doesn't exist, however metadata appears to exist identically for both the brackets that work automatically, and also for those that don't. I've used my PLE version of Nuke to do a compare metadata, and all that changes is the shutter speeds as you'd expect for HDR, I can't see anything odd going on. Here's a single downsized tif bracket so you can check it yourself if you like: http://www.hyperfocaldesign.com/images/tifbracket.tif
What can I look at to try and determine the problem? What other causes might there be for images not automatically merging?
    Thanks for any assistance,
    Regards,
    Jay

I have had that happen, but not for a long time, and I think it was Photomatix anyway.  I'm pretty sure I'd exported TIFFs from Photoshop, but I can't remember how the EXIF was lost.  As far as using three versions of the same exposure, from a high dynamic range point of view, that became increasingly irrelevant as ACR got better and better.  You could still get a ‘look’ using apps like Photomatix on a single exposure, but I suspect even that has been superseded by all the Topaz and Nik type plugins available nowadays.
This is just about the last time I used an HDR app on a single exposure, and it was taken getting on seven years ago (blimey I feel old) !!  Incidentally, it was very noisy, and there are a many hours worth of hand painting in it.   I still like the picture though, and have it on a canvas print on the wall behind my monitors.
