Merging Collections of Objects

Hi all,
I'm being a bit thick I think so I thought I'd post my problem here...
I have a scalar type and an array of that scalar type defined as:
create or replace TYPE reduced_digits_scalar_t
AS OBJECT
(  group_id VARCHAR2(100)
, group_prefix VARCHAR2(100)
, dial_string VARCHAR2(100)
, band VARCHAR2(100)
create or replace TYPE reduced_digits_array_t
AS TABLE OF reduced_digits_scalar_tIn my PL/SQL package I want to have two variables based on this type. The first is for a current group the latter is for all processed groups. Put another way once I've finished with each 'group' I then want to add it to the processed group.
In my mind it would be something like:
p_reduced_so_far := p_reduced_so_far multiset union v_reduced_digits;The best I can manage at the moment is:
         SELECT   reduced_digits_scalar_t(v.group_id, v.group_prefix
                                        , v.dial_string, v.band)
         BULK COLLECT INTO p_reduced_so_far
         FROM (SELECT r.group_id
              , r.group_prefix
              , r.dial_string
              , r.band
           FROM TABLE(CAST(v_reduced_digits AS reduced_digits_array_t)) r
           UNION ALL
         SELECT a.group_id
              , a.group_prefix
              , a.dial_string
              , a.band
           FROM TABLE(CAST(p_reduced_so_far AS reduced_digits_array_t)) a) v;But this does not seem very elegant.

and says that no map type is defined. Not sure where the map error comes in. Works fine my idealized world ;):
SQL> create or replace type mytyp as object
a integer,
b integer
Type created.
SQL> create or replace type mytab as table of mytyp
Type created.
SQL> select * from table(cast(mytab(mytyp(1,2),mytyp(3,4)) multiset union all mytab(mytyp(5,6)) as mytab))
         A          B
         1          2
         3          4
         5          6
3 rows selected.
