Message Version 7.0 (3103) running on OSX Version 10.8.1.
I am experiencing the following problems re the subject.
Hope someone can shed some lights here.
Problems
The pic of the person whom I am in conversation with does not show up in the message window, while I already have him (with a pic) in Contacts (my local address book).
Unable to send images to the chat party on the other side. I have tried drag & drop the image into the message window but apparently the other party didn't receive it.

I have two Buddy Lists in the "Background" (Not the "Front" window of the App)
AS I am using Mountain Lion I am using Messages.
The "Front" window is a Chat and Interface Window partially in view on the right
I also have the menu dropped down for this scenario

As you can see for the Chats (Part window) the View Menu > Messages has the Show Names and Pic active.
Whereas the Show options for the Buddy Lists are not active.
Those items become Active when a Buddy List is "Front"

If you are saying neither are active then it is possible you have the File Transfer window as "Front" or the Preferences are open and "Front"

I downloaded Firefox 4 onto my PowerPC G4, 1.67GHz running Mac OSX 10.5.6. When I try to open it I get error message You cannot open the application “Firefox” because it is not supported on this architecture.Use Tony's suggestion. On my firefox start up screen, I get the message that I am not running the latest. It asks that I upgrade now. However, under "about firefox," I am running 9.01, the latest version. I'd like to know why I'm getting this message and how I can get rid of it.

You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. That page is no longer being maintained by Google.
You should try changing your home page to:
about:home
If you don't know how to change the home page, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]].

I have a Powerbook G4 running on OSX Version 10.4.11. I currently have an Iphone 3, but it cannot sync with my computer because it reverts back to a version so old that I can't even text photos. (I have itunes 9) I would like to get a new phone because mine constantly freezes up, but I figure what's the point of getting an iphone if it won't sync with my laptop. I can't even listen to music on my iphone! Is it possible to get an Iphone 4s to sync with a G4 Powerbook?

Sadly not as an iPhone 4 running iOS 6 or above needs Mac OS X 10.6.8 or higher to sync in iTunes.

There is also Java 6 on OS X (10.6) itself already (comes installed) via the Java Preferences in Applications/Utilities folder, leave this on for Java based programs your using.
10.6 can't use Java 7 and Oracle is dropping support for Java 6 this month.
Since your not going to use Java 6 online, then your Java programs should work as long as you don't update.
Don't use Safari online as it hasn't been updated for 10.6 (10.7+ has Safari 6) use Firefox as it does get updates. -

I run Tiger OSX on one MacBook and SnowLeopard on another. Photos were downloaded from Tiger to SnowLeopard, and now iPhoto won't open on the Tiger Mac. Will upgrading iPhoto fix this problem?
What matters is the version of iPhoto you have on the different machines. Can you tell us what they are, and what exact error message you get.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Presently running mac osx 10.5.8. Recent Firefox update says it no longer works with osx 10.5 and it's no longer supported by apple. Any suggestins?
Use an earlier version of Firefox, use Safari, or upgrade to a later version of OS X. Any Intel Mac can run Snow Leopard.

What version of Reader are you using, and are you on Mac OS or Windows? Do you get the same error when you try to print other PDF files, or is the problem specific to one PDF?

hello, i was wondering if i can run multiple osx operating systems on my mac book pro? i currently have the latest version of lion but many of my applications require snow leopard to operate... thank you for any help.
The easiest solution is to partition your drive to provide a second partition on which you can install Snow Leopard. It need not be a large partition because you can still access applications on the other partition.
To resize the drive do the following:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed. (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss. Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work. -
Can't upgrade because I am running MAC OSX 10.4.11 on a MacMini. Am I still secure?

Two options since you have PPC: either continue to use Firefox 3.6 (3.6.25 is current, released yesterday) which you have. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

I run Mac OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 -----> I downloaded this battery firmware update and upong launching the update
it tells me that I need OSX Tiger 10.4.11 , Leopard 10.5.6 or newer.
Then the updater quits automatically.

And when runiing the isntaller it tells me that I need OSX Tiger 10.4.11 , Leopard 10.5.6 or newer.
