MetaData and Parsing Server Side Questions

Hello Office Devs,
I'm new to office development but here is what I need help with.  I'm creating educational software which will require students at a University to download a file from my server which has encrypted meta data like their name student id etc.  That's
the first part I have no idea how to do.  I have a linux hosting environment and my site is coded in php.
Now that the students have the document, they will follow a series of tutorials and once they finish, they need to upload the document to my server.  My server then needs to check to see if it matches the answer key and gives them a grade.
How would I go about making this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Jordan Schuetz

  • Shared Services and Essbase Server Access Question

    Hi,
    It seems that we have to assign Essbase Server access at the individual username level and that groups don't work when it comes to Essbase Server Access. Is this correct or are we doing something wrong and groups do work with Essbase Server access? We are on 11.1.1.3 Essbase/Planning/Shared Services.
    Thanks

    You can provision Essbase Server Access via groups but it must be the very first thing provisioned and pushed to Essbase. Then after that, provision your groups with other accesses such as Planning, Reports etc....

  • Server side include

    htaccess file code lets server parse server side include
    .shtml as .html with this:
    AddType text/html .html
    AddHandler server-parsed .html
    it makes me happy so i can continue using .html extensions on
    all pages.
    however, same server side include statement in .php pages is
    not recognized.
    what do i need to add to htaccess file so ssi in .php pages
    to be recognized??
    (not php code in an html page but pure php extension; i.e. i
    want to use the same ssi
    for header used in .html pages to be in .php pages.)
    browsed to find this answer but must not be using correct key
    words as have found every
    answer but this one.
    thanks.

    Hmmm... include() does not behave this way, the script will
    continue
    regardless. Be sure to have an appropriate include_path
    setting as well.
    Be warned that parse error in included file doesn't cause
    processing
    halting in PHP versions prior to PHP 4.3.5. Since this
    version, it does.

  • Server-side filtering to subfolder for all users (spamassassin)

    Hello,
    I am trying to integrate a 3rd-party spam filter/virus scanner, it is just spamassassin/amavisd-new running on a front-end box that adds an X-Spam-Flag: YES header to the message before passing it on. This works great on our current postfix/cyrus-imap system using individual cyrus sieve server side filters to look for the flag and move the message into the user's spam folder.
    My question is how to do this in a universal way on OCS, I have been reading through the docs and think server-side filters are the answer, but I can't seem to find a way to set up a system-wide filter that will put the incoming message into the recipients' spam subfolder. Does anyone have any clues on this? I think the key here is to somehow be able to use the recipient name as a variable to pass as a parameter to the moveto action, but I can't see a way to do this. Any pointers would be appreciated.

    You can do this in a single system wide rule, but it's undocumented and technically unsupported.
    First of all, checking the spam-flag in a system side Deliver rule is straightforward:
    <condition>
    <attribute tag="xheader" param="X-Spam-Flag"/>
    <operator caseSensitive="no" op="stringequal"/>
    <operand>YES</operand>
    </condition>
    (Checking on the subject is OK too, if you rewrite it through SpamAssassin.)
    Then to move to a folder, you'll need an external PL/SQL action since the full folder name will vary for each user:
    <action>
    <command tag="call"/>
    <parameter>SpamCheck.moveMsg</parameter>
    <parameter>parameter1</parameter>
    <parameter>parameter2</parameter>
    </action>
    Then the tricky part is the Pl/SQL to do the move, using the undocumented es_ga.g_username variable. This is the only way to know which mailbox context you're currently in for the deliver event at the system level. Without this, you need a separate rule for every user. Here's the bare bones of a procedure that would do it.
    procedure moveMsg(p_eventid in integer,
    p_sessionid in integer,
    p_msgobj in mail_message_obj,
    myparam1 in varchar2,
    myparam2 in varchar2,
    p_status out number)
    is
    this_user varchar2(255);
    mList MAIL_MESSAGE_LIST;
    Begin
    this_user := es_ga.g_username;
    mList:=MAIL_MESSAGE_LIST(p_msgobj);
    mail_folder.move_messages(p_sessionid, mList, '/' || es_ga.g_username || '/ServerMove');
    end MoveToSpam;
    You probably want to add some exception handling, etc. to that ;-) More info on the Pl/SQL API in general is in the Mail Application Dev Guide.

  • Vacation messages / server side mail rules

    With WebMail depreciated in OS X Server, is there a recommended (incorporated) way for users to configure vacation messages and other server side rules?

    The seive rules are referenced by the imap server on OS X and it is responsible for the mail sort. The old webmail (SquirrelMail) and the newer webmail on Lion (Roundcube) were only writing the rules that the sieve engine of the server were reading.  In other words, the webmail doesn't handle the sorting of the incoming messages, its built in filter settings write the rules that the server uses to sort them.
    In Roundcube, that is the managesieve plugin. By default, the rules get saved in /Library/Server/Mail/Data/rules/[user UniqueID]/dovecot.sieve with the new Roundcube and older rules are default.sieve. Dovecot seems to look for one or the other and uses it.
    So, and I still have to read (and if anyone can answer!) since I've not looked at this since 10.8 server has first come out:  They moved the mailstor moved in ML, but does Dovecot still have sieve rules ENABLED or does that require a .conf change?
    To answer your configuration question:
    if you're comfortable with editing a text file, Roundrube is VERY simple to configure in my opinion. Everything is well commented in the settings files. Almost all of the settings are having it connect to your IMAP and SMTP server, same as an email client's settings.  And that's it, you don't need to compile anything to use it.
    You will need to setup MySQL or ProtegeSQL with it, but they have scripts that setup the tables for you, again, pretty simple.  PERSONALLY, I chose to install MySQL (they have a Mac .pkg install and a System Preference Pane for it).  I did not want to use the ProtegeSQL Apple supplies with OS X because we've all learned this lesson: who knows when they'll abandon THAT and leave us all scrambling for a solution again.
    This way, my SQL install is indepenent, ready for the next OS upgrade without wondering if Apple will take it away, or even transportable to another platform.

  • Server-side connection pooling for clients in different VM's

    We have a need to centeralize our connection pool manger.
    Is there a server-side connection pooling manger product to allow multiple clients running in different VM's to connect to and share connection objects to the same Database?
    e.g. An applet, and a swing and a servlet/web app application all running in different VM's will connect to this central connection pool manager and share connection objects to the same DB.
    We are using connection pooling for all of our applications but each application is maintaining its own connection pool and it is becomming a nightmare to manage and configure each one.
    Also, we have to have at a miniumum one connection open per application to access the database regardless of wether we are using connection pool or not. This means that 100 apps(running in different VM's) will use at minimum 100 connections... where all of these 100 apps will do just fine with just 10-15 connections.
    while back we used T3 server but can't find this product on BEA web site any more.
    does jdbc 2.2 or 3.0 have any server side pool management specs outlined?
    Please HELP as we can't afford anymore licensing fees for our company.
    oh.. We can't open and close connections on each query as they will be slow.
    any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    if i understand you question, i don't think this is possible, since the Connection interface (and basically all of the related jdbc interfaces) aren't Serializable.. so they can't be sent over the wire to your client(s).
    However, you could feasibly write some server side connection pool, and some server side facade which will allow clients to submit queries (either SQL String's or however you want to do it - obviously a more elegant solution involves a series of classes which dynamically create sql based on query criteria), then the server can grab a connection, execute the query, cycle through the results and populate some result object of your creation and send that back over the wire to your client(s).

  • How do I tell FMS to only serve a section of a file using server-side ActionScript?

    We have a bunch of mp3 files on our server and we'd like to serve only particular sections of particular files to users.  For example, hello.mp3 might be four minutes long, but when user 1 tries to play it, he should only be able to play the section from 0:30 to 1:00, whereas user 2 should be able to play the whole thing.
    I'm coming from a background using Wowza Media Server, where this is fairly easy to achieve: http://fmsguru.com/showtutorial.cfm?tutorialID=78.
    Wowza doesn't require any change to the player (it doesn't call any special methods), so I'm looking for the same here.
    I've been fiddling around with the main.asc file and the "Server-Side ActionScript" API to try and achieve something similar.  In particular I've found the Stream.play method, which seems relevant.  But I can't figure out how to attach a handler to a "play" event; all the examples I've seen only attach to Application.onConnect, which doesn't seem to include a connection to a particular file, which I need in order to determine the section that can be played.
    So I'd like to do something along the lines of this (this is completely made up and doesn't follow any of the APIs; it's just an illustration of what I'm trying to achieve):
    application.onConnect = function(client) {
       client.onPlay = function(stream) { // Client.onPlay doesn't exist; what should I do here?
           var section = getStreamSection(client, stream);
           stream.play(section.start, section.end);
    var getStreamSection = function(client, stream) {
       return { start: 30, end: 60 }; // Return value is based on the user's credentials and the file they're trying to stream

    You can find the documentation for Plug-ins here:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/plugin_apiref/index.html
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/devguide/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11a0d662434 -7ff6PluginAPI.html
    Basically you need to concentrate on E_PLAY event and two fields F_STREAM_LENGTH & F_STREAM_POSITION. I am pasting below some code which you need to paste in your sample Auth Plug-in which you can find in : <installdir>/samples/plug-ins. You would have paste below code in case E_PLAY section in MyFmsAuthorizeEvent::authorize() function and compile it. You would basically get AuthModule.dll which you need to place in modules/auth and restart FMS.
    // Set the Stream to be played back only for 10 seconds starting from 10 th second
                                  // Stream will play from 10th Second to 20th Second
                                     float fValue;
                                  char buf[1024];
                                  if (getFloatField(m_pAev, IFmsAuthEvent::F_STREAM_LENGTH, fValue))
                                            float fLength = fValue; // in seconds
                                            sprintf(buf,"Original Stream length value passed from player %f\n",fLength);
                    m_pFmsAuthServerContext->log(buf, IFmsServerContext::kInformation, false);
                                            fLength=10.0;
                                            sprintf(buf,"Modifying Stream length value passed from player %f\n",fLength);
                    m_pFmsAuthServerContext->log(buf, IFmsServerContext::kInformation, false);
                                            setFloatField(m_pAev,IFmsAuthEvent::F_STREAM_LENGTH,fLength);
                                  if (getFloatField(m_pAev, IFmsAuthEvent::F_STREAM_POSITION, fValue))
                                            float iPosition = fValue; // in seconds
                                            sprintf(buf,"Original Stream Position value passed from player %f\n",iPosition);
                    m_pFmsAuthServerContext->log(buf, IFmsServerContext::kInformation, false);
                                            iPosition=10.0;
                                            sprintf(buf,"Modifying Stream length value passed from player %f\n",iPosition);

  • [Announcement: Java server-side web controls] - TICL 1.0 Final Released

    Hello JSP developers,
    We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of TICL (Tag Interface
    Component Library) 1.0 Final Release. TICL is library of server-side user
    interface components accessible through JSP tags. Like a conventional
    desktop toolkit, the components maintain state and manage interaction logic
    with the end-user with little or no assistance from the programmer.
    Read more about TICL at http://www.kobrix.com/ticl/ticlmain.jsp.
    If you are already a TICL user, check out the release notes at
    http://www.kobrix.com/ticl/releasenotes.jsp for the latest changes.
    More info
    One of the major goals of TICL is to bring RAD-like development to the WEB
    platform. Programmers can concentrate on logical functionality and build JSP
    pages by placing TICL components through tags and responding to user events.
    Every component is self-contained and manages interaction with the end-user.
    Visual appearance of components is abstracted into a high-level styles
    framework. In fact, TICL is probably the only server-side Java toolkit that
    rivals Microsoft ASP.NET's web controls.
    The library is tailored more towards WEB application development, rather
    than content only oriented sites. It is designed to quickly build clean,
    robust, well-structured and therefore highly maintainable code. It
    integrates seemlessly into existing JSP applications and it will work on any
    standard compliant JSP 1.1 container (e.g. Tomcat 3.2.1 and above, Resin
    etc.) and with fairly recent versions of the popular browsers.
    Core features are:
    - A powerful and extensible server-side event model. Component-end user
    interaction is encapsulated into a well defined set of server-side events.
    You can of course define event listeners, develop custom events, event
    filters etc.
    - Predefined components like panels, tabbed panels, tree views, DHTML menus,
    table views. Most can perform their interaction with the end-user at the
    browser through DHTML or by making a trip back to server on every user
    action (like expanding a tree node or minimizing a panel) - that is
    components are either "client" or "server" managed.
    - Smart browser handling. A complete framework for dealing with browser
    (user agent) capabilities, including detection of dynamic properties like
    connection speed, screen resolution, available plugins etc.; supporting JSP
    tags; on the fly selection of component rendering based on the current user
    agent.
    - A high-level styles framework for complete customization of the look&feel
    of components. Styles can be organized into themes. An inheritence mechanism
    of style objects provides for a powerful high-level structuring. The
    framework allows for a clean separation between look&feel and functional
    behaviour of GUI elements. No more copy&paste, no more code cluttering with
    tedious, browser-specific HTML details - consistency of look&feel can be
    easily achieved by maintaining a single TICL style sheet, a simple XML file,
    that is applied to all pages in your WEB application.
    - Full encapsulation of HTML forms, including a file upload component,
    augmented with things such as server-side command handlers, labels and DHTML
    tooltips. Form fields are typed, true server-side components. Not limited to
    the standard HTML form fields, they operate on a high level and custom ones
    can be developed and plugged into the framework.
    - A very powerful and easy to use declarative form validation mechanism
    (both client and server-side). You define validation rules and handlers for
    invalid forms in a clean, declarative way. The same rules you define can be
    applied at the client (through automatic generation of the necessary
    JavaScript) or at the server. Special purpose syntax allows you to easily
    handle interdependencies between field values.
    - A Data Objects framework integrated with TICL forms. Allows you to
    manipulate complex aggregate structures and associate them with forms for
    automatic mapping to/from form field values and data object fields (e.g.
    Java beans). A type mapping framework allows you to map any form field type
    to any Java type.
    - An integration module for the popular Struts framework is provided also.
    For example, it is possible to use the powerful TICL form tags with Struts'
    ActionForms.
    TICL is FREE for non-commercial and non-govermental use, and for an
    unlimited evaluation period. It comes with an extensive, over 200 pages,
    Reference Manual. To download it, please goto http://www.kobrix.com and
    select Downloads from the TICL pulldown menu. If you are not already a TICL
    user, you may need to register first.
    We sincerely hope you will enjoy TICL and are looking forward to your
    feedback!

    This looks quite nice. I'm going to evaluate it now, but I wish it was open-source....
    Judging from the release notes, it's been around for a while. Has anybody had any experience with this product? Is it reliable? Does it scale well?

  • JavaHelp server side search engine

    I'm trying to use a server side search engine with JavaHelp 1.1.3.
    In the Moment all Helpsets are located on a Server. The viewer like a bowser and on server side a selfmade servlet answered the request. Now the searchengine should used like written here:
    A comment out of the User Guilde on page 32
    Server Side
    In a Server-side search, the search data, topic files, and the search engine are >all located on the server side -- only the results of the search are downloaded >to the client. Also the searchengine shoud realise working with wildcards.
    But I can't find any information how to realise a system like this. I hope i can get some informations or perhaps an example here.
    thx Stefan

    Hi Gary ... why don't you just network the two machines with a firewire ? 6000 photo its a lot .. the other thing you could do its too set your main Mac as a sort of little server or so or just open the web sharing .. put your photos in it .. no matter if a connection 's wireless or so .. all you got to do its to write a little crappy html link to the folder where your photos are even faster .. why don't you put them all on a CD burn it .. and there you are ... other than all that I got no idea at all .. it might be something better, faster .. but I don't know of .. that are the only alternatives that I know .. all the best Dominique .

  • Server Side Includes for Apache and parsing text files

    I have an old website I used to do zipped up and I decided to set it up on my personal webserver in OS X . I got apache configured to allow server side includes (edited the httpd.conf to all them:
    <Directory />
    Options FollowSymLinks Indexes MultiViews Includes
    AllowOverride None
    </Directory>
    But I can't get the pages to come up. See I have this .shtml page which loads fine and a part of it has this line:
    <!--#include file="news/news.txt" -->
    But it won't parse that txt file and show the html that its formatted in.
    Anyone have any ideas on how to get it to parse that txt file? Even if I load just that txt file it shows raw code not it formatted. Please help.

    Ignore that first reply. I thought I was dealing with server.
    As usual, I fogot to make sure that Includes was in the Options directive for the DOCUMENT_ROOT or VirtualHost. After 10 years, you'd think I'd remember that. I just configged one of my macs to do SSI. Here's the 3 lines that I changed:
    Line 399 (the DOCUMENT_ROOT definition): Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews Includes
    Line 887 (To use server parsed HTML): AddType text/html .shtml
    Line 888: AddHandler server-parsed .shtml
    apachectl restart
    and off it went!

  • Server side package or emrbace Apex and use its capability

    This may not be a suitable question for this forum but I can only try.
    My experience with APEX is primarily doing everything in the APEX “front end” and only calling PL/SQL packages in the database when absolutely necessary.
    A colleague insists on putting everything in a PL/SQL package in the database and putting calls in APEX to functions & Packages.
    One example I can quote is we had a conditional tab which could only be viewed if you had an entry in a table.
    I did the SQL code for the tab in the conditions section in apex. My colleague then reworked my code to call a PL/SQL package and placed the code I had written on the server.
    Another example was a demo of lazy load on an input field he loved it but then when he realised it could not be done via a call to a server side package dismissed the lazy load idea as not relevant even though it would make our users life easier.
    I am soon to have a battle royal over which is the best approach. Any comments.

    First of all: All PL/SQL Logic you enter, either in APEX or in packages is always executed on the server. Your browser doesn't understand PL/SQL very well...
    Putting PL/SQL logic in packages - instead of in APEX regions - has some advantages though (not extensive list):
    - You can easily unit test package procedures/functions.
    - You can reuse the package procedures/functions in the same app or in other apps as well.
    - PL/SQL code in packages is compiled in APEX it's dynamic and has to be parsed, so creates some overhead.
    - When you make changes to your codebase or columns you can spot that in your PL/SQL packages (they might get invalid). You won't notice that in your APEX regions until you (or end user) run the page and encounter an error.
    So, yes, putting logic in packages has advantages. But on the other hand, a statement like "if we can't do it in a package, we don't do it all" might be a little to restrictive...
    Just my 2 cents

  • Server side includes: outdated and not supported by host?

    I've been using SSI's for ages with no problem from any host. Recently I signed up with a new web hosting company, one of the more established ones in the Seattle area. They do not support SSI's and claim that using them is not safe and is not a modern approach to web design. They suggested I use a more advanced programming language to create my sites, such as ASP.NET (something I have no desire to do).
    Are server side includes outdated and no longer the way to do things? I find that hard to believe.
    -Jesse

    Are server side includes outdated and no longer the way to do things? I find that hard to believe.
    That language is from Microsoft who seem to think so along with Windows based hosting providers offering ASP.NET.
    IIS no longer comes with SSI installed by default. It has to be configured by the hosting provider.
    http://blogs.iis.net/robert_mcmurray/archive/2010/12/28/iis-notes-on-server-side-includes- ssi-syntax-kb-203064-revisited.aspx
    However, classic SSIs (in the sense of including static content from one page inside another) are still one of the most powerful, safe and flexible tools for managing repetitive page elements in any web page. Not to mention easy.
    ASP.NET has its own way of doing the equivalent of SSIs - and lots more beside but much of which does not interest web designers at this stage.
