Metadata search?

In v 1.0 is it possible to search the Library by metadata values, e.g, F-number, focal length, ISO, etc.?

Sorry, and never mind. I just found the Metadata Browser thread.

  • Metadata Search not working

    Hi friends,
I have an environment working with UCM10G and everything is running ok except the Metadata search.
At my Content Server i have 26.000 CAD and Image files.
If i do a search by title with the word "ROBOT" i get 26000 results.
If i do a search by title with the word "TOY" i get 26000 results.
The same will happen with the other metadata fields.
So my search isnt filtering the results.
At my config.cfg i have the property: SearchIndexerEngineName=DATABASE.METADATA
Looking at Repository Manager > Indexer i Started Collection Rebuild Cycle and at Indexer Counters i have:
    Total 26000
    Meta only 26000
    My database is Oracle 10G
    Did i miss something?

This problem only happens on advanced search. Quick search is running well.
    Looking at system audit logs:

  • How to modify the sort criteria for a Metadata Search

I am migrating from Stellent 7.1 to UCM 10gR3 and have found a difference in the sorting of the output from a search of data/metadata copied from the old version. For the search, I have selected a specific Account with Results Per Page = 2000, Sort By = Title and Ascending set on both the 7.1 and the 10gR3 instances. In the 7.1 instance, the results are sorted by number, then A-Z with no emphasis on case. For the search on the 10gR3 instance, the results are sorted by leading spaces, numbers, capital letters (case), then A-Z.
    Example:
    7.1 Search Results:
    4-up Template
    Active Directory Plan
    ASGV Document
List of Tools (ignores the space at beginning)
    Zforms
    10gR3 Search Results:
List of Tools (sees the space at beginning)
    4-up Template
ASGV Document (lists this before "Active" because it is in all caps)
    Active Directory Plan
    Zforms
Is there a setting that will allow me to change the 10gR3 instance to match the 7.1 instance?
    Thanks.

  • Doc/metadata search not using TREX - max files to search?

    Hi,
We are creating WebDynPros searching a CM repository for documents with certain values on metadata properties.  I know this is kind of "brute force" instead of using TREX classification.
Is there some way of saying how many documents in a folder structure can be searched in 2 seconds?  Say we are using dual 2.8GHz CPU and 8 GB RAM in the server.  Using KMC6.0.9.0.0.
I am also interested in knowing more about TREX APIs.  I see they have not provided an official API - is there an unofficial with some guides?
    All feedback is appreciated.

Mainly, this will depend on your DB. I would suggest just to measure some information retrieval, that's done quite fast and will return far more exact values than any estimation.

There is no offical nor any unofficial - as far as I know - API doc for direct TREX access. But what is documented is the indirect access via KM API, see for example https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/kmc/using the km indexmanagement apis for searching with trex.article

  • Bridge CS5, metadata searching and video previews

Hello everyone, my first post here and I'm hoping to receive a little assistance or a point in the right direction.
Here's a brief history of my issue.  I'm a military videographer assigned to a new unit and I am trying to build a video library.  I'm shooting with a Sony EX1 and completely tapeless -- which is new territory for me.  As I increase the size of my video library I'd like to utilize Bridge as a method of searching for, previewing, and retrieving video files.  Bridge certainly seems capable of performing all those tasks; but I am having issues.
To begin with, it seems the tags I place on a .mp4 in Premiere Pro (PP) using the Project Panel don't appear in Bridge.  What I mean by this is if I place keywords on a clip in PP and then search for those keywords in Bridge no search results are returned.  I figured maybe the issue is the keywords are only useful within PP, although I thought those keywords were saved as metadata with the .mp4 file.  I relented with using PP to log my video clips and instead tested out OnLocation (OL).  Using OL I noticed some of the metadata I placed on my .mp4 files did show up within the Metadata Panel in Bridge but when I attempt to perform a search I only get results if I am within the folder the .mp4 exists in.  If I am in a parent directory to the folder the .mp4's directory is in then I get zero search results.
I thought I might be able to work around this issue by using the Sony software that came with my camera called Clip Browser.  With this program I can save some basic metadata such as title, creater, and description but again when I attempt to search for any of that information in Bridge, I get no query results.
Ideally what I would like to be able to do is use PP to log metadata for my .mp4 clips and store those clips in directories based on categories (i.e. Training, Aircraft, Personnel, etc.)  Then whenever I needed to find a certain kind of shot, perform a quick Bridge search based on keywords or caption information to retrieve the footage I want.  I'm uncertain whether I have stumbled upon an issue with cross-communication between the programs concerning metadata or perhaps I am missing a step or doing something else incorrectly.
Finally, as great an idea as I feel I have, the whole thing is a wash currently because I cannot preview any .mp4 within the Bridge application.  I simple get a movie icon and no playback.  Linking back up with the grand-scheme, after I search for a clip I'd like to be able to preview the results in Bridge to pick the best footage from the available clips.
My post is a little long and I hope somewhere in there I detailed my issues clearly.  I appreciate any help anyone can offer.  Thanks for taking your time to respond.

Several issues here, so will try to address them, and welcome to the forum.
    1.  I have never used Premiere Pro, but believe it uses a database for the keywords, while Bridge writes the keywords to the image.  In the case of a RAW file, and perhaps video files it writes them to an XMP file.  I believe there is an option in PP to write the metadata to file rather than database, and then Bridge can read it.
    2.  For the search to work the folders must be indexed.  This occurs when you visit the folder, or you can force the issue by clicking on the box "include non-indexed folders".  Also the search goes from the start position and goes down the directory tree, so you need to start the search above where you want to search.
    3.  Preview of mpeg files is still a problem.  Adobe staff from PP has entered the fray as using the K-lite codec package is causing problems in PP and other Adobe programs.  Herfe is the link to the rather long discussion.  It is still ongoing.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652660?tstart=30

  • Customised metadata - search for multiple fields?

Background: I'm logging a STACK of footage and attempting to arrange it all by a series of different keyword categories (the day the footage was shot, location, camera type, content type, key players, etc). Each category has multiple variables (ie: in the camera category the options are Sony FS700, Canon 5D, Canon 600D, GoPro). I'm adding custom fields via the PPr Project Metadata>Add Property function using a simple Boolean tickbox.
Question: Is there a way to sort and search the custom fields? For example if I wanted to pull up all the footage shot on day 5, with the Sony, that comprises of interview content with a particular person is there a way to search for all these fields? I've been able to search for one keyword if I tag the material but so far searching and organising by multiple fields has eluded me.
The long way round is to create multiple bins and/or sequences for each variable in each category by hand, but that's a little tedious and has the potential to bloat the project. Any ideas to solve the problem? I've come from FCP a few months ago so the metadata side of PPro is still something I'm getting my head around. Thanks for reading!
EDIT: I'm running PPro CC for reference and can install and use Prelude if it helped.

For the time being I'm using a workaround employing titles above the footage to signify the relevant categories, and tagging significant moments in clips with markers, but it is perplexing.. Premiere seems to employ metadata in a phenomenal way - such that I haven't come across in any other mainstream editor - I just wish it had the functionality to sort and manage all that metadata it is producing beyond the search bar in the Project window.
Premiere gurus and Adobe affiniados: am I missing something obvious?

  • Metadata Search & Replace

I am using Aperture to manage large amounts of images created by other photographers. To clean up captions I often want to search and replace words or phrases accross many captions. Does anyone know if this is possible in Aperture?
    Thanks

Perhaps I was wrong in thinking what C_Yarwood wanted was convenient access to the XMP metadata rather than to change the separators within his ID and PDF files.  As he says, the change doesn't "take" when made via ID's File Info.  Nor is changing semi-colons to commas so simple with Acrobat 9 Pro: change a comma between Keywords to a semi-colon and it will stick, but forcing a comma into the Author category causes the entry to be enclosed in quotes.  One might think this was to allow <Jones, John Paul, Jr.>, which Acrobat turns into <"Jones, John Paul, Jr.">; presumably to allow multiple authors with commas in their names: <Jones, John Paul, Jr.; Cat, Fritz the> becomes <"Jones, John Paul, Jr."; "Cat, Fritz the">.  But in the Advanced section behind Acrobat Pro's Additional Metadata button there are now five elements in the Dublin Core creator container, <Jones>, <John Paul>, <Jr.>, <Cat>, and <Fritz the>.  I don't think that's what C_Yarwood is looking for.
Marijan Tompa (tomaxxi)'s XMP Panel for IDCS5 offers different windows onto XMP metadata in InDesign files, and uses commas for delimiters for both Keywords and Authors.  The windows contain text, so the data can be copy-and-pasted via the clipboard.  Type an author's name into tomaxxi's Author window with commas and the commas show as semi-colons in ID's File Info.
For those interested in Java -- or who haven't moved to IDCS5 -- tomaxxi has three earlier posts where he provide several snippets of code for getting XMP metadata into and out of InDesign files.

  • Searching 'Title' and 'Caption' metadata

I've searched a bit on this and am not getting anywhere. The issue I am having is when I apply content to the Title and Caption fields of metadata, they are not searcheable. Meaning, when I use the 'Find' section on the sidebar, it doesn't locate images that I have confirmed have the content I am searching for. I've made sure that when using 'Find,' I have all 'Anywhere' selected for 'Text' and 'Contains Any' for 'Rule.' Also, 'All Dates' is selected for 'Date.'
I can't help but think I am missing something amazingly simple.
    Thanks in advance.

jimburgess, John O'Connor, DonRicklin...thanks for the help. Although I thought I had made extremely sure that I had no other filters in place to skew my metadata search results, I must have missed something. Although I can't remember exactly what it was that made my search start working, I believe it was related to both apply "cmd-L" to start fresh and then looking under the 'Folders' panel to see matching photos as some of you had recommended.
    Really appreciate the help.

  • Searching Custom Metadata in Bridge - Urgent!

    Hi,
Any help with the following would be greatly appreciated. I have created a custom xmp metadata panel that I am using for assets for a client. In Bridge, is there a way to use the Find tool to search for my custom metadata fields (as compared to the "All Metadata" search or generic metadata category searches)?
Also, is there a way to save these searches for future use or set up a filter based on custom xmp metadata? Similar to how Bridge's built-in keyword filter works but for custom metadata. It would be great if this could work similar to the current filter palette instead of using the Find tool every time.
    Thanks so much!
    Josh

Just was looking for this same functionality - was hoping I could add items to the filter and save them out as you were mentioning...

  • How Can I View Only The Search Results

I'm very frustrated trying to display only my 5 star rated images so that I can export them.  WhenI search I get all the five star images plus all the other images in stacks with them.  How can I just ge the search result images?

For that you would need to unstack your images from the stack. If your image is a part of the stack and it meets the desired search criteria ( in your case 5 star), then complete stack is shown in the search results.
If you want to bypass complete stack out of your search , you can use Find by Details (Metadata) search as -
    Rating is 5
    And
Stack is not in a stack

  • Spotlight/Finder only searching "new" spotlight comments not old ones

I have a bunch of files on my external hard drive that I had taken several hours to "tag" with spotlight comments a few months back. I tagged them so I could quickly find them in Finder or Spotlight by different key words and not just file names or their contents (folders wouldn't work because the keywords overlapped many of the files. Plus folders are slow). It worked beautifully. Until I stopped adding tags for those 4 months until now.
I hadn't been using my comments at all in the past couple of months, but i had some files that I hadn't tagged so I decided to take the time to tag all the new ones. While testing to see if the comments worked, I noticed an extreme shortage of results, compared to the results i had for the same key words 4 months ago. I noticed that only the newly tagged files were showing up. I immediately checked the old files to see if the comments were still there and there they were. I restarted my MacBook Pro, thinking that maybe it was because I hadn't done so in the past few days. I noticed the little dot in the lens of they eyeglass and thought "oh boy! it'll reindex everything!" but it only indexed "new" files of course.
So my question is: "*How did this happen?*" But more importantly: "*+How can I fix it?+*"
I've thought that forcing spotlight to reindex my entire external hard drive would do the trick, but I cannot find any means to achieve that goal. Plus, I would rather just be able to index the files within one folder as I wouldn't have to wait an entire day of sluggish performance for that. Any ideas?

Let me start with the "easy" question first: the .DS_Store files are where "Finder information" is stored. Windows users find these things a pain in neck, and usually insist they be deleted. Most of time this isn't a problem, the Mac users just get annoyed when their folder doesn't open the way it was when last closed--the principle information stored there is the view the folder was told to keep, the size of the icons and their arrangement, and so on. Every time you open a folder a .DS_Store file created if one does not already exist, and if one does the file will be updated if you change your settings for the folder, for instance switch it to List view, tell it to always open in List view, with columns for Date Modified, Size, but not Kind or Date Created. And it also keeps the information entered in Spotlight Comments. Just how Finder preserves this information if a file is moved, in Mac OS, to another folder, I don't know. But it does.
What we REALLY need is a nice little program to write to the metadata of the file. For instance, Spotlight will index keywords, which are stored in the file itself, as part of the file's metadata. I mainly work with graphics, and Photoshop allows you to add keywords to the file's metadata. Apple's iPhoto and Aperture will also add keywords, but they are not written to a file's metadata until you export them. PDFs can also have keywords assigned, you can even do it with Preview. Text documents can also have keywords added using some (most?) text editors, including TextEdit (provided the file is in RTF format). The nice thing about keyword metadata is that it goes with the file, and be accessed in any OS that allows a metadata search.
Unfortunately I don't know of any program that would allow you to select a batch of miscellaneous files and add the same keyword to all of them. It would certainly be handy though.

  • Library Filter ('Metadata') defaults-change

In the 6+ years I have been using LR each and every day I have never once utilized any of the four default terms cooked-into the 'Metadata' Library Filter  ('Date', 'Camera', 'Lens', 'Label').
Is there a way for me to set up new metadata search terms as defaults so I don't have to putz w/changing the same-old-same-old each and every time I open this filter?
    thx.

Hmm, in my LR 5.2 Windows 7 64-bit, it remembers the most recent columns in the Library Filter Bar Metadata browser.   If I do View > Show Filter Bar (\), then Library > Enable Filters (Ctrl+L), then click Metadata in the filter bar, I get the most recently used configuration of columns.  The configuration is remembered across restarts of LR.   I've never noticed the columns changing underneath me -- I wonder what's different about how we use LR or the configuration?
Regardless, the filter presets are stored in
    C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Filter Presets
(and somewhere analagous on Mac).  You can edit them with a text editor.  Be sure to save a backup copy.

  • SharePoint search using Term-IDs doesn't work as expected for various document types and items

If items or documents are tagged with managed metadata terms from the term store (no social tags, but pre-defined terms), you can find this content later on (after crawler has finished) using the following URL query:
    http://myserver/search/Pages/results.aspx?k="85f915a2-bd9e-4c94-a840-4323d37e8df9"
The guid is the term ID (from the term store).
    Issue:
That works great for office documents. It seems to be not working for several file types like txt, zip, aspx (inside page libraries) etc. All file types are generally registered with search crawler and are found correctly using the normal search, e.g. for
the term name or other content. It also not works for me with custom lists that are tagged with a term.
    Questions:
    1. Is using this type of search url a documented and advised feature, to find content that is tagged with terms?
    2. How to setup search to find this items and documents consistently with "normal" search AND by term ID?
    Thanks, Frank
    Thanks, SharePointFrank http://www.layer2.de/en/products/

    Hello Frank,
SharePoint contents tagged with managed metadata Terms can be searched by doing a search on “TermName”, and the search result could be refined by managed metadata. Please ensure your SharePoint site content source was crawled and Managed Metadata
Service Application was running. Personally, using a TermID involved in the URL to search items tagged with metadata isn’t advisable due to difficulties when manipulating a ID number.
Fabian Williams has included a managed metadata search section in his informative walk through:

  • Addiing fixed filters to Advanced Search

We have a set of libraries with custom columns in each. These are resulting from importing metadata from a legacy document management system. What I need to be able to do is to set up a way of searching each of these libraries and associated metadata in
    isolation from each other.
I have created a page for each library using the advanced search web part and tried to customise it. I can add the metadata search fields sucessfully and use them to narrow down the search but the results page returns results from the whole subsite. I have
had limited sucess using an additional column for each library that has a unique name and I can use the drop down to search that but I would like to be able to force that in the search.
I can do it with the simple search (setting additional query terms) but then I don't get the option to add the restrictions for the other columns. I thought I could edit the keywordQuery field to add in something like
    metaterm:"ABC"
This works if I add it to a result type that already specifies a document type but not for the generic "All Results". What have I missed.
The result type that works only works if I use the OR operator and not the AND operator, I would have expected the AND to give me what I want and the OR to give me lots more results.
    Hope someone can help
    Thanks

    Hi,
Based on your description, you want to search from each library.
My suggestion is that you can create search scope for every library and use the scope in the Advanced search web part.
    1. Create search scope for every library, and when you create, you should choose the advanced search, only you choose the advanced search, the search scope will display in the advanced search web part.
    2. Edit the advanced search web part, choose the show the scope picker, you can see the search scope in the advanced search web part.
How to create a search scope:
