Metapackage or guidelines help to build general compiling environment?

hi there,
i am new guy to archlinux, i just got my box up and now urge to try abs. i followed the wiki to prepare the abs environment, but while i was trying to #makepkg -csi, abs complained missing make,pkg-config etc... i am too lazy to #pacman S all these basic development packages manually, i wonder if there is a meta package to set all these up(i heard of base-dev but i couldn't find it from all the repos), or may be there are guidelines explain how to get it done? please advise.

#pacman -S base-devel works!!!! i believed there was a typo mistake in my first trial... now makepkg runs happily thanks for helping.

I removed an old version of a java runtime and installed reinstalled flashbuilder 4.5. I also upped the memory however it always gets very close to maximum allocation. It is not crashing as much however if I close flashbuilder it takes ages to load the workbench in. Are you on windows 7 also?

Flex Builder not compiling changes

HELP!
I have a flex project that will build and run OK. If I make
changes to the a file in the project (an actionscript file to be
exact) the changes do not seem to compile. AN example is I take out
huge sections of the code and the project still will build and run.
I can also put in alert.show in the code and the code does not
execute.
This project is imported and originally comes out of SVN.
I have tried the clean build.
I can create my own project and make changes. Everything
works, but when I use the project created by someone else loaded
into SVN I cannot make any changes to the project. It is like Flex
Builder is compiling files from another location.
Please help. I am out of ideas.

- If there are any errors in the errors/console panel, a new
swf won't be created
- Make sure the target SWF file isn't set to Read-Only. It'll
prevent Flex Builder from updating the file.
- Check your build settings to make sure where FB is creating
the file is the same location you expect it to be

Build vcs Compile

A simple newbie question:
In an IDE such as Sun ONE Stuido, what is the difference between Build and Compile?

I don't know Sun ONE Studio but in usually "compile"
will compile just a single file and "build" will
compile all files in a project. Most IDEs will perform
a dependency check for "build" so that it only
re-compiles files that are needed to keep the code
consistent. Usually there is also a third option
called "re-build" that will skip this dependency check
and simply re-compile all files in a project.First off, thanks for your reply.
What you describe had been my experience with some other IDEs I've used. However in Sun ONE Studio (which use to be Forte for Java) there are actually four options: build, build all, compile, and compile all. The "all" options do as you describe of building or compiling all the files that are part of the project. Compile or build performs the dependency check and will compile the active file AND any dependent classes that have changed since last compile. (I'm pretty sure I saw an option to turn that off so it will only compile the active file.) But despite my searching of the help files and Sun's site, I can not figure out what the difference between compile and build are.

I need a little help with building a new comp and any help will be appericiated.
My wife is a video editor and she needs a new CPU.
She is editing HD films from various cameras (she have several clients).
The budget is around 1500-2000$ for the CPU without screens and software which she already owns.
She is working with CS5.5 and using windows 7 pro 64bit.
I read quite a lot in the past few days and I ended up more confused then I was, this is the setup which I thought of:
CPU:       I was thinking about the i7 960 3.2 (310$) or the i7 2600k (330$).
MB:         Asus p6x8D 1366 ddr 1600
Graphics: Gigabyte nVidia GTX460 1gb gddr5 (210$) or gtx560(230$) the 570 is way off the budget (440$)
BLURAY: Pioneer BDR-206
RAM:      I don't know really.. I was thinking about 12gb but I am cluless about it.
Power:     AX 850W Gold Active PFC 12cm Fan Modular (No particular reason, when I'll know my final setup I'll check the power I need with http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp).
Case:      Antec / Thermaltake, No idea which model..
OS HDD: I'm still puzzled weather to go for the small (60gb) ssd for the OS and programs or go for a 7200 rpm hd.
HDD:       W.D Caviar black 1tb 7200 rpm, 64mb, Sata III * 4 with raid on board (Raid 0 or Raid 5? - I'll save it for another thread).

This is a simple 3 tables join with a mathematical expression that I am not sure how to implement - I was trying to use the ExpressionMath.divide(..) method, but it divides an expression by a number and not a number by expression..
My objects' structures is:
I have a notificationMessage object that has a m_messageText member of type String (mapped to a.MESSAGE_TEXT) and a m_Language member which is an embedde object of type Language.
The language object has got an m_languageCode member which is an embedded object of type LanguageCode.
The languageCode object has got a member m_bitsPerCharacter which is of type int and is mapped to the table field BITS_PER_CHARACTER of the table: ga_language_code.
I was trying to write something in the form of:
ExpressionBuilder builder = new ExpressionBuilder(NotificationMsg.class);
ReportQuery reportQuery = new ReportQuery();
reportQuery.setReferenceClass(NotificationMsg.class);
reportQuery.setSelectionCriteria(builder.get("m_messageText").length().greaterThan(1 * 1120 / builder.get("m_language.m_languageCode.m_bitsPerCharacter")) );
But this is wrong since I am dividing a number by expression, and obviously it cannot be done.

I was trying to use the ExpressionMath.divide(..) method, but it divides an expression by a number and not a number by expression..This method also takes an Expression and Object parameter, which can be another expression. You can also use the Expression.value(Object) method to create an expression from a number.

now i have to start selecting the records starting from bottom of the table i.e, from DATE:08-SEP-2008 FLAG:y
till it finds the next flag set to YES i.e 04-SEP-2008.
Thats means i have to select total of 5 records from bottom.

Gcc3 compiling environment

Hi, I have a problem with gcc. In my laptop I had gcc4 installed, with libstdc++ and glibc, and everything worked smoothly. I had the necessity to install gcc-3.4 to compile an old version of a data analysis program which was not ported to gcc4. I installed gcc-3.4, but got some errors. In the support forum of the program i've been told that such errors are because my libstdc++ and glibc are not matching my gcc linker version. So my question is: how to build a full gcc-3.4 compile environment? Where can I find the needed packages?

Yesterday I've finally been able to compile root 5.14 using gcc-3.4 (as found in the gcc34 package from repository). I had to tweak the configuration heavily. First of all, there's a small bug in the configure script which won't allow you to use the GNU Scientific Library whose subversion is a two digit number (eg., >= 1.10). This is needed to enable mathmore support; fix it like this:

To make sure that gcc-3.4 and g++-3.4 are used through all the build you have to set it in <root source>/config/Makefile.linux (both in the compiling and linking options). In the same file, change also the fortran complier from g77 to gfortran. If you want to use xrootd then you have to perform also this operation: unpack the <root source>/xrootd/src/xrootd-20060928-1600.src.tgz tarball before launching configure, change gcc -> gcc-3.4 and g++ -> g++-3.4 everywhere in configure, configure.ac andd config/GNUmake.rules.gcc, then pack the tarball again and substitute the original one with the modified one. This is because xrootd seems to have its own configuration files, and doesn't refer to Makefile.linux.
With these tweaks, this configuration worked for me:
./configure linux --enable-minuit2 --enable-mathmore --disable-krb5 --disable-cintex --disable-clarens
You should be able to enable kerberos support with MIT Kerberos (in my system there's heimdal kerberos which is not compatible with root).

How to revover compiling environment?

I installed Oracle8.1.7 server on Redhat7.3
so I had to change my compiling version to 6.2 with following files
these rpms:
compat-egcs-6.2-1.1.2.14.i386.rpm
compat-glibc-6.2-2.1.3.2.i386.rpm
compat-libs-6.2-3.i386.rpm
How could I recover my original compiling environment?

Forms compilation environment settings

Hi,
Is it possible to configure Forms Builder to use other settings (for example another NLS_LANG) that the registry one?
In my case, I have to use NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1 for the Forms generation using Designer.
But I want that in the Forms Builder, if I compile a module (ctrl + t), the builder uses another NLS_LANG setting so the .fmx is compiled with another NLS_SETTING that the one in the registry.

I have special characters (prompt, item label, ...) in the fmb. If the fmx is not created using UTF8 NLS settings, those characters are not well displayed.
I need the builder to compile using a different NLS than the registry one, if possible.
As explain below, I can always recompile my fmb using a script but I rather prefer to have the good NLS when the builder generates the fmx

Building with different environment configuration

I currently work on a Portal project and have the need for building towards different environment - such as production and test. These different environment have their own configuration settings. For instance would I like to benefit of this configuration in test and production, but not in development:

Yes, it should be fine to set the cache size different on the master
versus the replica.
There are several configuration items that must be set the same
across all sites, such as the size of the log file, or ack policy, etc.
You should carefully read the pages for any configuration items that
you want to have different across sites to see if it is allowed or not.

Defines. Try adding this: /D_WIN32_WINNT=0x0400

I found it is difficult to build up the Desktop Environment with Archlinux.
Of course, I am new to archlinux, and I learnd a lot by using it. I really love it~!
I just want to make my desktop as same as Ubuntu 8.04... It's just a small dream..

You say you can startx succesfully. Is this with an unmodified (shouldn't even exist) .xinitrc, or with a .xinitrc configured to start Gnome? If the latter, can you post it?
