Method to determine tagging status of several PDFs

Hello,
I'm trying to find a way to use Acrobat to determine if a large batch of several PDFs have had accessibility tags added to them.
I was hoping I could use a Preflight check for this -- however, there isn't one called "PDF has accessibility tagging", and I don't know what to look for.
I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro on Mac OS X.
Thanks,
Andrew

Something to try (using Acrobat 9 Pro).
Disclaimer - I'm in Windows; however this may work on your Mac.
Create a new Batch Sequence.
In the dialog "Edit Batch Sequence - <the name you assigned>" click the "Select Commands..." button.
Select and Add "Accessibility Checker".
Click the "Edit" button.
The "Accessibility Full Check" dialog is presented.
Be sure that "Create Accessibility Report" is ticked.
Use "Choose..." to set a folder for where the report is to go.
(n.b., report is an HTML file)
With a Folder identified click on the button "Start Checking".
No, Full Check won't "run" -- this makes the Folder choice "sticky".
Use Checking Option "Adobe PDF".
Close the dialog.
"OK" out of the "Edit Sequence" dialog.
"OK" out of the "Edit Batch Sequence - <the name you assigned>" dialog.
Run the Batch Sequence on two test PDFs (one known to be tagged, one known to be not tagged).
Upon completion Acrobat presents a "Warnings and Errors" dialog.
If a PDF is not tagged this is identified.
The report (HTML) file holds this information as well and is present in the Folder that you choose.
You can view the HTML report, cull from it, convert it to PDF for programmatic harvest, or whatever.
Keep in mind that "Tagged" does not mean a PDF is "good-to-go".
While there is "programmatic valuation" routines available they provide a rather high level perspective.
They do not (yet) provide the close look by a warm body that, currently, is required to assure that what is in the structure tree is actually correct. As well, some make unspoken premises as to what is "correct" that are somewhat "off".
Example: The grouping element "Document" is not the only allowed grouping element (discussed in ISO 32000-1) that can serve as a valid structure tree root element.
In short, a knowledgeble peson will have to assure your PDFs are well-formed Tagged PDF.
On a positive note ISO 14289-1 (PDF/UA) is in "FDIS" and it is anticipated that it'll be on-the-street in a few months.
Having a normative Standard will most useful.
Be well...

Use the cfpdf tag as follows:

  • Text or GREP find/change method to assign tags

    Hi all
I could use a text or GREP find/change method to  assign tags to paragraph styles (for use in FindChangeByList), would anyone be able to help please?
    Steve

    Hi Peter
I produce a quarterly magazine for which text is supplied in Word format.
I currently run the 'FindChangeByList' script to format body text, headings, bulleted and numbered lists, web and email address text styling and to remove/correct all extraneous characters etc.
Once the job is printed I need to produce a tagged 'accessible' readable (eg: read out loud function in Acrobat) pdf from the file, for text to speech readers.
I am currently using the map tags to styles function, which allows me to assign tags which in turn gives me control of the 'text reading' order.
What I'd like to be able to do is automatically apply the Tags to syles while processing the 'FindChangeByList' script.

  • Label Studio - Create a tag file as a pdf

I am attempting to create a tag file as a pdf file in label studio.  When I attempt to use Adobe Acrobat, I get a message that says that "font WASP128M could not be embedded because of licensing restrictions."  Business Objects suggested trying another software to create the pdf file.   I downloaded Pdf Creator,  it creates a pdf file, but there is nothing in it.   Does any one have any ideas on how to do this?  Thanks for the help.

    Chris,
Have you tried using one of the following pdf printer drivers?
Here is some info from our KB article:
There are many companies that offer PDF printer drivers. SAP BusinessObjects is not affiliated with any of these companies and does not recommend one in particular. The below information may change without SAP BusinessObjects knowledge. Here is a list of several PDF printer drivers and where to find them:
    - PDF Factory is from FinePrint Software, it can be found at http://www.fineprint.com/index.html
    - Freeware PDFCreator is a freeware PDF print driver, it can be downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/
    - Win2PDF is from Dane Prairie Systems, Inc. and can be found at http://www.win2pdf.com/
I think Larry and I found that there are some issues with the latest version of PDFCreator but the other two should work fine.
    Thanks,
    Kendra

  • Securing several PDF's within a single folder

    Hi,
Is it possible to use a batch file to protect several PDF's, stored in a single folder, with a single Policy?
    Thanks for your help
    -Owen..

When using Acrobat 8.1 to secure documents through the Adobe Document Center, you can use the batch processing capabilities of Acrobat to secure multiple documents at the same time. The batch processing option is found under the Advanced | Document Processing | Batch Processing menu. You will need to define a new sequence for securing document and choose the Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server as the Security Method and the Policy you want to apply to the documents. Also when specifying the sequence select a source folder where all the files to be protected are located and a target folder where the secured versions of the file
dog breeds should be placed. Once you have specified the sequence you can run the sequence and this will secure all the files in the selected folder.
These proposals are helpful to us, I'll see to it, thank, Mark Bunter.

I have several pdf files in my computer which are organized in folders. I want to transfer them to IBooks (in my Ipad) and keep the folder structure I use in my computer. Is it possible to do it? Do I need any other app?

By design, the organizer (and any other database management systems) is there to prevent you from duplicating your media files. The catalog management allows you to have the same image in different categories or albums. Duplication in different folders is to be absolutely avoided.
The same image file can have multiple tags like 'family', 'vacations', 'birthdays' and be present in three different albums with the same names. On obvious advantage is less disk space. Another one with your present folder system is that if you edit one of your duplicates, the other ones are unchanged.
I don't see an easy way to make your present folder structure simplified for the organizer ...

  • Extract Tag Tree from existing PDF

    Hello,
We are starting a new project where a user can accessibility check their pdf. They do this by uploading the pdf file and on a new screen we are supposed to show if the tag tree of the pdf (if it has tags).
Can the tag tree from an existing pdf be extracted on the server by running some command line code in the background or by calling a method in the .NET SDK? Anyone have any ideas.
If this isn't possible does anyone know of any other software programs that I might use in order to get this information. As long as I can get the tag tree I shouldn't have any problem marking it up into HTML and rendering it to the person's browser.
    Thanks,
    Dustin Michaels

Are you sure you can't install it on a windows server? This links says you can.
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/productinfo/systemreqs/Re: Extract Tag Tree from existing PDF
Microsoft® Windows® 2000 with Service Pack 4; Windows Server® 2003 (32-bit or 64-bit editions) with Service Pack 1; Windows XP Professional, Home, Tablet PC, or 64-bit Editions with Service Pack 2; or Windows Vista™ Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, Business, or Enterprise (32-bit or 64-bit editions).
Anyway even if you couldn't install it on a server we could always have it installed on a Windows XP machine and have the windows server contact the Windows XP machine to get the tag tree from the pdf uploaded.
Do you have any idea how you might extract the tag tree regardless of what operating system adobe acrobat is running on using some .NET code?
    Thanks,
    Dustin Michaels

  • Acrobat XI PRO: Create a Table of Contents (TOC) automatically in top, after I have combined several pdf.files into a single pdf.file

    Hey
I have now tried for hours, but now I give up!
    MY WISH -
Create a Table of Contents (TOC) automatically after I have combined several pdf.files into a single pdf.file.
I have already bookmarks, shown on the screen (see screenshot below) but I want those bookmark to be visualised in a separate TOC in the top of the combined files.
This new TOC (which I have inserted) shall be printable and serve as a cover page in a binder.
I have seen other cheap pdf.programs in the market (e.g. PDF Converter Professional 7.3) which are able to make the above things, easy, fast and nice.

Somewhat roundabout way but this should work:

Reader doesn't have that ability. You would need Acrobat.

As TSN has indicated we have no idea what program you are using, other than you posted in the Acrobat forum. In Acrobat you go to File > Create > Combine (varies with version of Acrobat). You can also open one and then use the pages>Insert to add the others.

  • Best method to determine the week number of a month - SQL Server 2012

    Hi,
I'm searching the most valid and tested method to determine the week number respect to a month.
Fe, the 1st January falls in the 1st week of January, the 1st February fall in the 1st week of February, and so on.
I've found many solutions but I'd like to know possibly the best one.
    Thanks

    Hi Uri,
    SELECT DATEPART(week, '20150104')
         - DATEPART(week, CONVERT(CHAR(6), '20150104', 112)+'01')
         + 1
    returns 2 and not 1. It's a Sunday.
    Waiting to be spoonfed, eh?
The one-off in my query would be very simple to figure out - I forgot to add the +1. Is too much to expect from you that you could figure it out yourself?
And likewise, in my post I said that you should use "week" for weeks starting on Sunday, and "iso_week" if your week starts on Monday. Uri neglected to observe this, but you had the information to correct it. If you had been interested
in doing some work yourself, that is.
Nevertheless, there is an issue that I overlooked:
    DECLARE @day date = '20160105'
    SELECT datepart(iso_week, @day) -
           datepart(iso_week, convert(char(6), @day, 112) + '01') + 1
This returns -51. This is because with ISO week numbering, Jan 1st falls into week 53 of the previous year, if it's on a Friday or later. Week 1 is always the week of Jan 4th. When you week this does not happen, as week 1 is always the week with Jan
1st. (Dec 31st is always in week 53 or 54.)
To correct for this, we need this query:
    SELECT DATEPART(iso_week, @day) -
           CASE WHEN DATEPART(iso_week, CONVERT(CHAR(6), @day, 112) + '01') < 50
                THEN DATEPART(iso_week, CONVERT(CHAR(6), @day, 112) + '01')
                ELSE 1
           END + 1
