  • Adobe Creative Suite Design CS6 - PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator immediately shuts down after startup

    I'm troubleshooting for a customer who have Adobe Creative Suite Design CS6.
    His programs suddenly wont start, they launches and starts to read plug-ins and open up a workspace, but then without warning/error it shuts down. no log, error message or anything...
    It's the same for PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator both in 32 bit and 64.
    He is running the suit on a Hp EliteBook 8560p with Windows 7 Pro x64 sp1.
    He also have had a Wacom Bamboo CTE 650 penpad installed before.
    This is what I've done so far:
    * Uninstall the whole suit and reinstalled it again (Done this 3-4 times, manually deleted regestry-files, used CClean and other cleaning tools)
    * Deleted the wacom-drivers with controlpanel tool, Windows driver Clean tool, CClean and manually deleted registry-keys and files.
    * Uninstall Anti-Virus software and replaced it with another, inactivated AV and Windows Firewall.
    * Deleted register-files for the suits and "reregister" them again.
    * Full patch both for windows and adobe softwares.
    * Reboot between each step
    Any suggestions?
    I have to add that adobe support for this $2000 software really sucks...

    Problem solved!
    I went through all the folders associated with adobe cs6 and renamed them (one by one) so they would be recreated.
    I did this before but seems like I missed this specific one.
    Anyway, when I renamed the folder "SLCache" in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\ and then ran the applications one by one as administrator I was prompted to enter a serial-key again and log in to my Adobe-ID.

    It really depends on which subscription plan you are signed up to.  Normally whichever programs are available thru your subscription are listed for you to install in the CC desktop manager application.  If you do not see certain programs listed it might be because your machine does not meet the system requirements for them... that is normally what happens with the manager.

    Many people seem to be confused by that incomplete, brief wording on the Cloud plan page.

    Updated Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator on 6/18, now nothing will open: Error 16. None of the Error 16 fixes using the SLS Store and Adobe PCD folder permissionms work. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work. Been on the phone with Adobe 5 times since this happened on June 18. Probalby spent 5 hours on the phone with 4 different tech people. I'm waiting for a callback, but the Adobe guy tells me it will be 2 days. Others muct have this same problem....any fixes? HELP!
    PS- Also made a new user account and tried opening with that, thinking it was a permissions problem. Still Error 16. Frustrating.....can't work if I don't have the software.

    Same here, I have Logic Studio 8 and wouldn't mind staying with that version, except that the installer won't run on my new Macbook Pro as PowerPC apps are no longer supported. That's the message I get in any case.
    I use to run Logic on a 2006 Macbook Pro.
    I guess that makes me a very unhappy Apple user! I've been using Logic from the Emagic days, bought every upgrade only to see Apple kill what used to be one of the best Pro Audio application. Imagine if they had done the same to Photoshop, there would be a lot of unhappy designers out there
    Paying the full price for years to slowly see your daily app go down in price & efficiency until it's given away at $199 for semi pro users. Well, at least ProTools is stil alive & kicking so I guess that's the way forward now.
    This is coming from someone that never ever used a Windows machine to make music! Life is good still!

    A PPC G5 cannot run any version of OS X beyond Leopard 10.5.8.
    You should be able to find a Leopard retail (black) install disk on eBay. A grey update disk is machine specific and won't work.

    I can find online new in unopened box a 2012 iMac 27" i7 with 1T Fusion Drive for $1899 no sales tax.  This seems like a pretty good deal since I notice the same is available from Apple refurbished for $100 more plus sales tax.  I know that they say the Fusion drive is a lot faster on 2013 models but some of the speed tests I reviewed online showed the 2012 i7 and 2013 i7 very close on speed for both storage and processing.  Any thoughts?
    I don't like changing batteries so I would buy a separate Apple keyboard with numeric pad since it only comes with wireless keyboard.  I'm a trackpad enthusiast having been using my macbook pro trackpad with current set up; and I am prepared to buy the Apple trackpad and replace batteries every 2 months but I would greatly prefer USB connection and rechargeable trackpact.  I know Logitech makes one so if anyone is using and knows how it compares to Apple's I'm all ears.

    important to note that what you are talking about is not a backup
    It is simple to ahve your iPhoto library on an external drive -
    Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
    And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
    And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
    And you can have multiple i{Photo libraries - one can be on your internal drive and other on an external drive  --  iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  is a very helpful tool for managing multiple libraries

    I work at an designers firm, and we are avid users of the Adobe Creative Suite. However, it's expensive software, and certain people at the company only have to view the files we create. It's a bit of a hassle to create PDFs for them, and it's expensive to get full CS6 licenses for people who just view the software.
    So my question is: is there any good software to view these file types simultaneously?

    Any bog standard image viewer like IrfanView can display PSDs - if they are saved with maximum compatibility. Of course without any color management, so colors may be off and CMYK files look whacky. Other than that your chances are slim. Without the proprietary Adobe libraries in place there is simply no way to "understand" ID and AI files beyond the occasional icon thumbnail based on the PDF-compatible data in the file...

  • Photoshop on a PC -- what's the best?

    Okay, so, my mom said she would get me Photoshop on our desktop at home.  The deal is, I want a Mac because I know it works well and runs efficiently, however, my mother has been working on a PC for 30 years, so changing over to a Mac desktop for her, would be like a moving to a foreign country. From what I've read online, I've picked up the vibe that you pretty much have to build a PC from the inside out to make this thing work right. So, what I need to know, is what needs to be built, there is no budget.  Oh, and the only Photoshop on there will probably be CS5.  Since this computer will only be in use with me for about 15 months because she's going to have to buy a Mac anyways when I go off to college, she's just refusing to listen right now and is probably dead set on getting a new desktop.  So I really have no idea what it takes to make this run right, but it HAS to run good.

    I'm actually only 16, I'm a high school junior and have been working with Photoshop since I was about 13.  We currently have a rather large PC it's only about four years old, and I have Photoshop Elements 7 and it freezes ALL the time!  Then at school, I work on a Mac Desktop and we have CS3. So I actually want to go to school for Graphic Design or Photo Editing (depends on the school I end up at).   However, I'm in the Photography program at my high school, and well, it's really just a bad situation and I have done the class three years in a row, but this is my last year with it, which explains the new need for Photoshop at home.
    Having Photoshop on this "new computer" is really only a hold over for about 18 months, because I graduate high school in May of 2012 and I'll be receiving a Mac Book Pro with all the Photoshops for graduation.   So, which is why my mom really wants to make this work on a PC because come August of 2012 this "new computer" will pretty much have no use for me.
    I have absolutely no clue what TIFF, RAW and 16-bits are!  So I will definitely have to look those up.  But you have by far given us the most help!  Thank you so much!
    This may be of some help in addressing the issues you're having with PSE7 and the PC you have now....
    PS Elements is a 32bit program...
    PSE7 uses only 50% of available ram (half of 1602mb, that is, HALF OF HALF of 3.5gb limit 32bit OS reserves for programs OTHER than the operating system....)
    I know this because I have PS7 and had used it in my old P4/2.5gb Ram in XP-32bit before upgrading this month to the i7-860/6gb and Win7-64bit
    ...so now that I'm using Win7 64bit with 6gb RAM...in PSE7 I can now move the memory use slider (in Performance, see Preferences under the Edit tab at the top task bar) from 50% to 100% and use all 1602mb, far less than is actually available...
    With all 1.6gb now running PSE7 there is no problem running PSE7...
    btw...also create and assign a scratch partition that will not be used for saving any data...this will also help performance...though with more than 4gb in the system, it is unlikely the scratch disk 'memory' will be needed much, especially for casual PSE use.
    Now, as for how well a new machine will run Photoshop....compared to an older machine...
    ....I use PS6, an older version, and I use Canon Digital Photo Professional (DPP) to open RAW images and convert them to Jpegs...(PSE7 will do this but I find DPP simple to use as it has
    a large thumb nails to review)...RAW is the UNadulterated/UNprocessed data (hence "RAW" as in "RAW data") that give you much more control over the image processing, including
    adjusting color temperatue (daylight vs cloudy vs shade vs tungston vs flourescent, etc)....
    I know some people will say that this simple example is not so simple...but...to help you a bit with TIFF/Jpeg/RAW terminology....Jpeg is a compressed file, with loss of detail as a result...TIFF is a "lossless" file good for printing, but it is not accepted on the internet....so we use JPEGs which is the standard for posting photos on the 'net....
    It used to take 18 seconds to convert/save a 40D Raw file (from DPP...a 13mb file that has not been processed there) to default Jpeg in my old P4/3.2-HT cpu with 2.5gb Ram....a machine that may be similar to yours....
    Now it takes 3-4 seconds to do the same in my new i7-860/6gb Ram machine....with Win7-64bit OS...
    I can't say whether this is much faster than an i3 or i5 machine...but I got a good price on the i7 so I went for it...
    ...nor can I say if this is much slower than an i7-900 series....and really I don't care if it is...as you can see, a fraction of second faster vs. the improved 15 seconds is hardly a concern...
    I hope that gives you SOME idea of the order of improvement I experienced....and as has been suggested, an i7 with at least 6gb of RAM will take care of most of your needs I'm sure.

    I want to use ECN to keep track of changes on mulitlevel BOMs, but I am struggeling with understanding how this is done in the best way.
    Basically, my understanding is that if you want to do a change, you create a change master and set a validity date. Then, next time you want to do a change, a new change master is created with its validity date. So you end up with a lot of change masters for the same BOM.
    Now, how am I supposed to report all changes done to a BOM in a userfriendly and easy way? I cannot find a report that gives me changes pr part/BOM number?
    Am I missing the point here or do you have any good ideas?

    Dear GAR,
    Change number helps you to find out the history of the objects like BOM,material master.
    The history includes the creation,changes and deletion of datas.
    But there is no direct report in SAP where in you will get all the details like in which field the change
    has happened in combination with ECM.
    You can have a look in the reports like CC05,CC04,CC07.
    Still if this does not suit your business requirements means then you have to go for a customized report.
