Yes. If configuring the "Voiceover" setting does not do what you want, use your Mac's
 > System Preferences... > Sound > Input setting to select your external mic as
your system-wide sound input device. You may need to reset the volume slider with the
external mic because volume may be different for each microphone.

    I'm not sure if this is right forum or not but, I've got a satellite M305D-S4829 and when I use the microphone for internet calls or on Ventrilo people tell me that my sound is full of static and that my voice comes out in generally bad quality. I've tried searching my laptop for a way to change the microphone settings but have only found microphone settings for speech recognition. I tried searching for an updated driver but Windows says that it's up to date. Is there a way I can customize my microphone or do I have to go out and by an external one?

    First.  No one cares what Windows says about drivers being up to date.  They don't write the drivers, nor does Windows Update have the correct drivers.  What matters is do you have the latest TOSHIBA drivers directly from the TOSHIBA Support Site via the Product Support Link at the top of this page.  THAT's what counts. 
    OF course to find that out one must provide the correct model number.  M305D-S2849 is NOT a valid model.  But you can check that yourself by going to the link and entering the correct model number and comparing the version number of the latest driver to the ones installed.  Also check the Support Bulletins for your model to see if they discuss the issue.  I know on my L305-S5933 updating the WiFi driver corrected some sound issues.  If your model happens to be the M305D-S4829 then there is an audio driver update that addresses inaudible sound levels from the microphone.
    If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Skype interferes with microphone settings

    I discovered the hard way that using Skype interferes with microphone settings in such a way that ViaVoice no longer recognizes the sound input device. It may affect other applications as well, I am not sure. I posted this issue back in July in a thread titled ViaVoice/Tiger, but no one had a solution at that time. After months of tinkering, emailing ScanSoft (no clue) and being very frustrated, I finally found the answer. I wanted to post it in its own thread to be sure people see it. Here is the fix:
    After hours of trying different ways to get ViaVoice to work again after using Skype, I discovered this simple procedure:
    1. Quit Skype
    2. Go to System Preferences/Sound/Input
    3. Select an input source *other than* the one you want to use with ViaVoice.
    4. Launch ViaVoice SetupAssistant and click through the steps until you get the error message "It appears microphone is not connected .... "
    5. Minimize all open apps so you can see the ViaVoice window, and select Quit ViaVoice
    6. Now go back to System Preferences and change the input source back to the mic you want to use
    7. ViaVoice will now function normally until the next time you use Skype, at which point it will break again.

    I got a little Problem with my micro-settings. They keep disappearing..
    Every time i update or reinstall the X-Fi drivers everything works fine but after -2 reboots i cant use my "female to male" stuff.

    I have got same problem here.
    When I switch from "creation to game mode" or from "game to creation mode" I can hear microphone/line in playback.
    It is muted on the panel but I can HEAR it.
    I always have to switch it ON and OFF (in both modes).
    Same thing happens when I play through ASIO.
    Microphone playback activates but panel visualisation is OK.
    This behaviour is pretty annoying.
    How is THIS even possible ? I can not believe it.
    One more thing about create console I do not like.
    It is SLOW !
    Slow loading (opening), slow switching.
    And two words to Creative developers:? "SIMPLICITY" and "EFFECTIVENESS".

    I am writing to you for a peculiar issue. I am using the phone for less than a month...and have not explored it yet fully...some time back, I bounced upon an option to change the microphone setting. I am unable to find that option again. Actually, when I am talking to someone one with this phone, the person on the other side is not able to hear me properly...so I thought of changing the mic. setting...but I am just not able to find it back.
    Could you pls. help me with that.

    The "Smart Sound Settings" are available for the K920 Vibe Z2 PRO.
    Haven't had the chance to ''play'' with a S90 yet,and some settings are model and firmware build number dependent.
    ....If you discover any sound/voice or general conversation enhancements on the S90 please fell free to share them.Might help other S90 users.

  • USB Microphone settings

    Can someone please clue me in on the proper settings to get my new SAMSON USB microphone to work? I got it to work once, by luck I suspect, by messing with the settings in Audio/MIDI set up, Garage band preferences and the sound settings in my system prefs. There is some holy combo that I can not recreate.
    Extra special thanks if you can help me figure out how to have both the voice (from the mic) and my guitar can be recorded at the same time.

    You can check AMS to make sure the mic is set to 41000 sample rate and a bit depth of 16, but other than that, all you have to do is select the USB mic in GB's prefs. What have you done in GB? Have you created a New Basic Track?
    For the guitar when you have AMS running, open its help and search for "Aggregate Device". You may be able to create one which includes the USB Mic and the line-In. The you'd select the Aggy Device in GB's prefs, and select which channels to record on which tracks in Track Info.

    I loaded Facebook video chat last night.  I can hear & see the other person; they can only see me, but, cannot hear me when I'm talking.  I tried looking at System Preferences, etc., w/out success.  Can someone help me?

    No settings needed just use the HDMI adapter.

    Hello everyone I have a serious problem. I just started using Adobe Audition 3 and everything is working fine except my microphone isn't recording my vocals. The music is playing and sounding good yet when I start to record and playback nothing is there. I tested my hardware and it's working fine, so why can't I hear my vocals. Can someone please help me?     Ahhhh, this is one of the areas that AA excels at, in my opinion.  Put the 4 takes on 4 separate tracks in MultiTrack View (MV) lined up correctly on the timeline.  On each track (take) locate the 'In" and "Out" points for each "keeper" section and split the track at those points (right click over the cursor-line and choose 'split').  Right click on all the "throw away" parts and choose "mute".  Do that for each of the 4 takes (tracks).  Playback and only the keeper sections will play.  Under 'File' menu, choose to export a mono mixdown of all the tracks, and create a comp'd WAV that you can put on a single track in MV for mixing.
    Alternatively, once you have all the tracks split in the proper places, choose to "lock in time" all the keeper bits.  Drag the keeper bits to another track (say track 5), then mute the first 4 tracks and just play back the comp'd track 5.  You can then export that single track to a new wave... or not.... since it is on one track, then it makes it easy to mix and use automation on the single track without the WAV export and addition from above.
    Most of the time I use the second method.

  • Desktop skype client on windows 8.1 microphone not working suddenly

    Please help me! Until yesterday my desktop client worked perfectly on windows 8.1, use it all the time for work. However yesterday afternoon the microphone suddenly stopped working and no one can hear me. I haven't done any updates to anything etc. Microphone works perfectly in other apps, including sound recorderrunning latest versionwindows 8.1Microphone is enabled and skype is allowed to use ittest call doesn't record any sounds and the bar which shows when there is sound just stays right at the bottom. I did install the skype windows app instead from the windows store, but that has the same problem.Also, I hate the app so won't use it. Are there any sudden issues with desktop skype on Win 8.1?  Is there anything I can check or try to work out why?Driving me mad and stopping me talking to people for my work so causing me a major problem thanks for any help 

    I am having the same problem. I can hear everyone but no one can hear me. Sometimes the people on the other side might be able to hear me very very very softly. I tried changing the microphone settings in my phone but no luck. One thing that did solve the proplem temporarlily is going to control panel, shut off the microphone and turning it back one. Restarting skype and rejoining the call. However this is not a perminant solution. The next call gave me the same issue. What is the deal with this? Please help. Might be a windows issue?

  • Make Flash Plug-In for Firefox Remember Privacy Settings for Camera and Mic Access on Local File

    My company is using Flash Player to develop some kiosk-style applications to run on a standalone computer (no network connection). This computer will contain web pages containing Flash content. They will be opened from the local HD with Firefox with the Adobe Flash plug-in (v11.7.700.224). One of the applications accesses the microphone hooked up to the computer. When this application is started, it always asks for permission for "local" to access the microphone and camera. In previous versions of our system, we could click "Remember" if we did it once and that would make it so it wouldn't ask for permissions again (in this case, the Remember option isn't available, and the site settings don't even offer the Privace tab). However, in the previous case, we were running IE with a previous ActiveX Flash version (unfortunately, this approach is no longer available as we have had to switch to Windows 8 and that changes the game with IE and Flash entirely).
    At this point, we have tried to use the Global Settings for "Camera and Microphone Settings by Site..." to enter "Local" as an always allowed site. This does not seem to have any effect. We also tried entering the root directory of the applications in "Trusted Location Settings", but that also seemed to have no effect.
    I'm not sure what has fundamentally changed here. I think there might be some differences in the Plug-In version (compared to ActiveX), but I'm not sure what they might be or how to do the same thing as before.
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    We learned that the Privacy tab (in Settings) can be found under the Flash plug-in for Firefox, but only if Firefox is running under an administrator.
    Unfortunately, we haven't had much luck with the mms.cfg file. The following was used in the mms.cfg file (placed in both the %WINDIR%\SysWow64\Macromed\Flash and %WINDIR%\System32\Macromed\Flash” directories):
    AVHardwareDisable = 0
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = local
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = 127.0.0.1
    AVHardwareEnabledDomain = localhost
    AutoUpdateDisable = 1
    The AVHardwareEnabledDomain settings seem to be getting ignored regardless of whether the user is a standard user or an administrator. I also checked to make sure it wasn't just a local problem by going to a website that uses a microphone (http://www.testden.com/accent-reduction/systemcheck.htm). Adding the requested domain to the list (AVHardwareEnabledDomain = train.act360.com) still didn't bypass the allow/deny dialog box.
    We know that the mms.cfg file is being read because setting "AVHardwareDisable = 1" will result in no prompt and that section being greyed out in Global Settings. I saw a post that suggested this setting was required to even make the AVHardwareEnabledDomain work, but it seems to block the local entirely and still brings up the dialog query on the internet site.

  • Microphone too low on G780 in Windows 8

    When I used Skype, I heard complains, nobody could hear me. So I checked my microphone settings and they were set... to minimum (microphone 0, performance 0 dB) so I set it to maximum (microphone 100, performance +40 dB) and... with very weak results. Tried to use Skype or windows internal voice recorder with the same result: extremely loud background noise and very weak voice in the back, not possible to decipher, muffled and on the edge of hearing. Sound on the laptop works fine so this is not a speakers issue.
    Essentially built in microphone seems to work, however so weak that it is not usable at all. Did I miss something? Can I improve it? System shows that drivers are up to date and everything is installed.Or is it a technical fault and I should send it to technical support?

    I've run into something similar - except it was a different machine and different operating system...
    This KB has some suggestions that may apply.  In my case turning off the enhancements did the trick.

  • Microphone not working. (Mac)

    As of two days ago my microphone on Skype has not been working.  I did everything that skype.com told me to do but it still won't work.  I am starting to get annoyed because my microphone works on everything else but not here and the help they suggest doesn't fix anything. I need help! What do I do?!

    Unbelievably bad support from Skype...
    I have the same issue - it just stopped working one day. Microphone settings on the Mac are fine and work with everything else. Skype support dialled into my mac and could see for themselves.... it is 100% obviously an issue with Skype as the input microphone does not create any volume. They took no responsibility and simply raised an issue with their developers team (?) We pay for Skype and at this point in time CANNOT USE IT!! (Is that Legal?)
