Microsoft JScript compilation error alert on initial load using IE7

I have noticed that a javascript alert window is displayed whenever an Applet is initially launched using IE7.
This does not happen using IE8 (or FF, SF, Chrome, etc).
I thought it was our implementation, but the alert is also shown launching any Applet from the following;
http://java.sun.com/applets/jdk/
There are typically 2 alerts and after pressing OK, the Applets appear to run successfully.
The specific error is;
Alert title: Microsoft JScript compilation error.
Alert content: Expected ')' in regular expression.
I don't always remember this error using IE7.
Maybe it's related to the JRE?
I am currently using: (build 1.6.0_26-b03)
Any solution out there?

I just had a look at the source of two of the pages from the 1.4 section of that page (Animator (1) & ArcTest) & saw some very questionable HTML for the <tt>applet</tt> element, as well as two seemingly unrelated scripts. What do you get for (instead of those), the GIF Animator (the applet form)? It uses <tt>deployJava.js</tt>, which is about the only deployment option that Oracle cares about at the moment.

  • Microsoft Jscript compilation error - expected ';'

    I had JRE 6 u5 on my new HP Laptopt dv-1110el. I've updated it from www.java.com to JRE 6 u11. Since then, sometimes randomly, when a java applet is loaded (I use IE7 protected mode/Vista Home Premium. Sadly I can't run IE7 with DEP too because of compilation error process by Sun who uses too old MS ATL libraries prior to v 7.1 for its Java builds! But this is another story and another bug...) I get this requester twice: Microsoft Jscript compilation error - expected ';', Ok.
    After I press OK everything goes on fine and I can load other applets without errors, 'till I close & re-open IE7 where will happen again.
    I tried to uninstall all Java I had, to clean-up registry but the 'Microsoft Jscript compilation error - expected ';'' pop-up requester still come out. Others experienced this?

    All I did was to update my brand new Laptop HP Pavilion dv5-1110el (IE7/Vista Home Premium x86, SP1, Ita, UAC on) from pre-installed JRE 6 u5 -> JRE 6 u11 using [http://java.com/it/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1]
    After this the bug started to happen.
    Uninstalling all Java entries from Control Panel and using HP Recovery manager to reinstall default JRE 6 u5 solves the problem. Looks like a bug in JRE 6 u11.
    Here is a shot of the problem (I have to go thru 2 Ok requesters):

  • Microsoft JScript Compilation Error

    Hello,
     I have written a program that is controlling a manufacturing setup. The labview program consists of two independent loops. One controls the motors through an analog output. The second turns a bath sonicator on and off at a specified interval. The sonicator loop is output through a digital channel. This program runs for approximately 5 days. However after 18 to 24 hours I receive an error... "Header: Mircosoft JScript Compilation Error Below: Syntax Error" The overall program continues to run but the sonicator portion stops running. I have put a log process into the sonicator loop in a hope to determine a pattern. I ran the program multiple times they stopped running at random times during the night and there is no pattern to the number of cycles completed. Thanks to the log I have determined this is definitely not a hardware problem, but is a software problem. If anyone has an idea I would greatly welcome.
     Myles

    Sorry that was information I should have included in the first message but it was a late night.
    1) I was running it on labview 8.5.3, I just upgraded computers and the school installed labview 8.6.1 on this computer. There seems to be no difference in the problem between computers or between versions of labview.
    2) I have outline the "sonicator" loop in red
    3) Both computer have been running Windows XP Professional, I don't think the problem is originating in labview as the main program continues to run.
    4) The log I created can be seen in the last frame in the sonicator loop. It simply outputs the time and date that the sonicator loop completed a cycle
    here is an example of a cycle specified to turn the sonicator on for 20 minutes out of every hour

    This log stopped at 8:24 and the main program was still running the next day when I came in, with the error stated above showing. There is no physical damage to the circuit, and I can still manually turn the sonicator circuit on/off using a small sub VI, I would expect it to be a software problem in the "sonicator" loop. Also I can restart this program and the sonicator acts normal again for ~24 hours until the same error.
    5/6) This project was kind of frankinsteined together (as you may recognize by the top loop, which is the motor control loop, the school is too cheap to invest in NI Motion control) there is no real communications between the equipment and labview. Labview is simply outputting signals, in the case of the stepper motor, the analog step signal is used to trigger a step in the motor encoder board. In the case of the sonicator the on/off signal is amplified and feed into a normally open relay which controls the power to the sonicator. The system was designed to handle errors by failing to safe, although there haven't been any errors other than this one.
    Although I believe it is a software problem I am using a PCI-6024e, just in case it is relevant.
    Thank you for the help

  • JRE 6 update 10 : Webstart give Microsoft JScript compilation error

    We had some problem yesterday with our application that is launch from webstart. Everyone that upgraded to JRE 6 update 10 had the problem. This morning we don't have the problem. We are all on Windows Xp 32 bit, english or french and we all use a proxy.
    I suspect that the problem is related to how update 10 handle the proxy responses.
    here a screenshot that I took yesterday.
    the workflow was this :
    we had a jnlp and when we click on it.. javaws starts and we got this popup. We can close it, and the application will download, and before the application starts.. we had the popup again.. close it again.. and the application run perfectly.
    here a screenshot of my proxy setting in IE and firefox : (the default browser is FF)

    I found the problem. I am using a proxy auto config script, which works fine in ie and ff but not javaw which inherits proxy settings from ie.
    I narrowed it down to a regular expression literal that ends with an escaped forward slash: /\//. I think it's valid, the forward slash is escaped (works in ie and ff). You can reproduce this by configuring ie to use the following pac script:
    function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
         var retVal;
         try
              retVal = /\//.test("/") ? "DIRECT" : "PROXY localhost:80";
         catch (e)
              retVal = "PROXY localhost:80";
         return retVal;
    }I debugged it in ie and it works with no errors or exceptions.

  • Jscript compilation error - expected ';'

    We are preparing to use Web Start to launch a new application. Some of the workstations get a jscript compilation error pop up immediately after the autoproxy (pac) script loads. If we configure the java control to use direct connect it works fine. I would prefer using the browser settings, and allow the autoproxy config file determine what proxy (if any) to use.
    I finally ended up using the following test script, and still get the error.
    // alert("proxy pac active");

    Hi,
    that is correct.... HTML5 is supported in IE10 and later (http://caniuse.com )
    feature test with
    if(window.applicationCache)
    test your website from a file server (http protocol), not a local file (file protocol). eg. localhost/mywebsite.local. (select the publish option from your IDE). You cannot debug directly from VS (f5) eg. http:/localhost:port (no domain to map the manifest
    to),
    there are also some gotcha's with debugging the appChache api. Delete the client manifest (Internet Options/Browsing History>Settings>Caches and databases)
    you feature test the navigator object to determine if the userAgent is 'online' with
    if(!navigator.online)
