>> Good initiative.  To
move the SharePoint trace logs, Visit the Central admin site and browse to the – Central Administration > Operations > Diagnostic Logging and update the log file location to your desired location.
To move the Usage Analysis logs, Visit the Central admin site and browse to the – Central Administration > Operations > Usage Analysis Processing and update the log file location to your desired location.
Will it impact running MOSS installed on my server? What are these logs files about?
>> No. Deleting log file wont effect anything. It is just a log but you may need it for past investigation.
Please advise
>> I will say, move it to other drive. Also clear up recycle BIN, IIS Log, Event from windows

  • Microsoft Office on a Client-Server Enviornment

    Hello everyone!
i want to ask if i install MS office on a server machine, can the clients of that server machine use MS Office from the server?? instead of installing MS office individually on each client machine. so all i'm asking is if i install MS Office on my server
and i want all the client to log on to the server and use MS office from the server.
    ~Thank you~

Yes you can do that using Remote Desktop Services. You could either install it on the server so your users start an RDP session to the remote desktop server, and within that run MS Office, or you could deploy it via RDS using App-V so that while your users
are running the copy of Office remotely it appears as if the application is running on their local machine.
The main things to consider are the process required to deploy Office in an RDS setup, and obviously the licensing side of things. For App-V check out
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2915745 and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2772509 and for straight RDS deployment and licensing scenarios check out

  • Microsoft office issues with clients bound to my Open Directory Master

So i converted all of my clients from having a local account on there machine to being bound to my Open Directory Master with a home folder on the server. I deleted there local account on there client machine and then bound it and logged in with there server account. launch microsoft entourage, excel and word and i get weird errors when the applications launch. So i reinstalled on the local admin account of the client machine and all applications now work except for microsoft entourage.
I can set up an account... see my exchange email server but no email. nothing.. if i log the client machine out of the OD master account and log into a local account on the machine everything works fine. Am i missing something? i even set up for the user account in the allowed applications to run the microsoft office suite with no change.
    thanks,
    Jess

Note Microsoft Office does not support server-based home directories. You can use portable home directories which syncs stuff down to the client (like a roaming profile but "better" )
As far as errors with application launch, etc., check the permissions on the applications themselves. Office has an annoying habit of installing itself as the user who installs it (well, except Office 2008 which installs itself as user 502, always, lol). Ensure the permissions on the applications make sense -- this will take some command line use of chmod and chown.
Also ensure that your home directory permissions are mapped to the user you're logged in as. If you move from local accounts to server-based accounts the UID on the home directory will not automatically change properly, and Microsoft stores its stuff in ~/Documents/Microsoft Office Documents which will have the owner/permissions of who initially created that directory.

Retail editions of Office can't be used on RDS/TS - only Volume Licensing editions can be used.
Recently, Office365ProPlus was updated to provide "Shared Computer Activation", but this doesn't apply to Retail editions such as H&B.

    5. Can I install a retail or OEM version of Microsoft Office on a network server?
Microsoft Office retail (full packaged product) and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) products released in 2007 or later
    do not permit network use.

  • Design flaw in Microsoft Office 2004 - Anyone can get it for free!

    Hello all.
This is going to sound a bit strange, but I've been in the pub today giving my new MacBook owning friend a lesson in the joys of Mac goodness. One of the best things was discovering that I could use Bluetooth to beam across some of my favourite freeware application from my PowerBook to his MacBook. All small stuff, usually in the 5 - 10 megabyte range. I sent him a solitaire game, some media viewers, all the usual non-Apple things that make a Mac even more useful to run. I know, nothing strange so far, but bear with me.
My friend volunteered the question of whether Bluetooth would time out during the transfer of large files. An experiment was needed. I was also curious to find out if larger applications would beam across and still work. After all, if a 5 megabyte freeware app works when copied from my applications folder to his, would a larger piece of commercialware work as well? I mean, it shouldn't right? As a recent Mac switcher myself (5 happy months) I thought it would be appropriate to try a Microsoft application. I bought my PowerBook second-hand and I inherited a copy of MS Office that I've never used (and never will).
So here is the curious thing. I used Stuffit to compress the entire Microsoft Office 2004 folder. Minus Entourage, which I had already deleted as being surplus to requirements, the SIT file weighed in at a whopping 250 megabytes. I was very impressed to find out that it transferred across in a little over half an hour. No timeout limitation for large file transfers, Macs rock. I was however, extremely disturbed to discover the that unzipped file played perfectly well on my friend's computer. To clarify, by just copying across the entire Microsoft Office 2004 folder he was now in possession of a free, activated, and 100% working copy of the program. Surely this can't be right? I know that piracy is a major issue, and for Microsoft to just allow people to copy across the entire application means that a single copy released on a fileshareing network would be usable by an unlimited number of people potentially.
I would like to stress that I absolutely do NOT endorse piracy in any way. This was just a drunken experiment to see what would happen, and I'm reporting it here so that Microsoft and Apple can close this loophole and make sure that future versions of the application can be protected. This application retails at £350 and a simple copy and paste of the entire folder means it is available free for the pirates out there. It is not fair that some people should get for free what others have to pay a premium rate for.
My friend has deleted the copied program from his computer as neither of us wish to indulge in illegal activity. This was just an accidental discovery made during a casual "what if?" experiment. We did a search on Google (we are still in the pub as I write) and I can't find any mention of this having been found before. I hope the forum admins can bring this to the attention of someone higher up as I'm sure that it will be of great interest. It is bad enough that some people crack open applications for use by the less scrupulous out there, but this application is able to be freely copied by all and sundry. It might as well have a big "steal me" sign posted on the boxes.
Um, I'm guessing that as it is a Microsoft application that it is their mistake right? Just another reason why I am no longer running a Windows computer if this is an example of their attention to detail. It is breathtaking that some people are paying a huge amount of money for a program that can just be copied and pasted between computers.

That is the way Microsoft Office 2004 works. It's a drag and drop install of the folder itself. (Although, it's usually done from the install CD, not someone else's computer.) Any missing support files (not entire applications like Entourage, though) will re-install themselves the first time an Office application is launched. This is how Microsoft designed it, so it would be simple to install and self-repairing. The registration information is saved, somewhere, inside that folder.
If you wanted to alert someone, you should probably tell someone at Microsoft.
    -Doug

  • After migration to new iMac - problems with Microsoft office 2008 using multiple users

I migrated my data from my old Imac to my new Imac.  On the new Imac I created multiple logins for my kids.  My microsoft office 2008 programs will not open.  I keep getting the "Customer Experience Improvement Program" screen which cycles through, checks for update then closes never allowowing me to access the program.  Please help!!

Reference your first post - I download and use dmg files, so either I'm lucky or they are supported.
I would try the disk reinstall since at this point there doesn't seem to be many options.
Do you have a backup? You could restore the Microsoft Office 2008 folder.

  • Installing Microsoft Office:mac 2004 Student and Teacher Edition

I am trying to install Microsoft Office:mac 2004 student and teacher edition.
I don't know how to achieve this.
I have tried the Office Setup Assistant but it says "You can't open the application "Office Setup Assistant" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.
So, I assume I have to do the "Drag the Microsoft Office 2004 folder to your hard disk to install all Office components" option.
Being very new to iMac, my question is, "Where exactly do I drag it to?  Which icon along the bottom or should it go somewhere else?
    Any help would be great
    Thanks

It will not work with Mountain Lion. You need Office 2011 for OS X.
Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

You need to remove the Test Drive (which may have been copied over) before installing the full version.
Make sure you are logged on as an administrator.
Quit any Microsoft Office programs that are running.
In the Finder, click Applications, double-click the Microsoft Office 2004 folder, and then double-click the Remove Test Drive icon.
    Click Remove.

  • Microsoft Office 2008

hi there - my Brother purchased Microsoft Office 2008 for mac and gave me one of the licence codes, however - the code that I used to register my copy is apparently being used by someone else and so Microsoft Office has stopped working.
I've now bought my own Microsoft Office but am having some difficulties registering this copy with the new licence codes - do I uninstall the old version? and also is there anyway of 'unregistering' the old version as it is now completely useless...
    Many thanks.

    robrw wrote:
hi, thanks for the prompt replies!!
I'va managed to uninstall it fine - the problem is that when I use my new CD to install the fresh copy of MS Office, I never get the opportunity to enter the 'clean' product key that came on the CD sleeve - I presume that this is because my Mac still thinks that I'm using the 'old' product key, and consequently I'm back to square one as even though this is a fresh purchase it still thinks that I have an invalid product key...
    Thanks
I found this which might be helpful:
    Microsoft Office 2008
Unlike earlier versions of Microsoft Office for Mac OS X, Office 2008 does not remove its serial number, or "CD Key," when you run the "Remove Office" tool. That tool is still found on the installation disc and installed inside the "Microsoft Office 2008" folder on your hard disk, but it doesn't have the secondary function of deserializing Office 2008.
Instead, you will need to remove the following two files to have the same effect.
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Microsoft Office 2008 Settings.plist
    /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/OfficePID.plist
You may navigate to these locations with the Mac OS X Finder by selecting Go > Go to Folder, and pasting in the following two paths (one at a time):
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/
    /Applications/Microsoft Office 2008/Office/
Removal of the OfficePID.plist file may require administrator privileges.
    Reference:
    http://www.rit.edu/its/services/desktop_support/mac/msofficeremoveserial.html
I would then add that you are most likely better off installing NeoOffice or OpenOffice, both of which are close to 100% MS Office compatible and both are free downloads and best of all, they work flawlessly and do not require any keys or registering, etc.

  • Microsoft Office icons not installed after latest update

Just updated OS X Yosemite to 10.10.1. Microsoft Office 2011 icons have not been installed on the dock and do not appear in 'applications'

What do you mean by, they don't "appear in 'applications'?"
Are the Office applications not in the Microsoft Office 2011 folder in Applications?
Or, do the icons not show on those apps?

  • I deleted my microsoft office:mac 2011 word from my toolbar. I have Mac OS X version 10.6.8.  I tried to reinstall but it won't work. I get an error message each time. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I deleted my microsoft office:mac 2011 word from my toolbar. I have Mac OS X version 10.6.8.  I tried to reinstall but it won't work. This has never happened before.  I get an error message each time. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I don't have time machine.

By Toolbar, do you mean the Dock?  The Translucent bar normally at the bottom of the screen, but sometimes at the right or left side?
If that's what you mean, the Dock is merely a shortcut to what is already inside the Applications folder's Microsoft Office 2011 folder.  If you have Word inside your Microsoft Office 2011 folder, you can drag it back to the Dock.
If you deleted the Microsoft Office folder, or it is empty, you'll have to reinstall it.
If you don't have your registration code, you'll have to call Microsoft for a new one.

  • Transferring microsoft office from 1 mac to another

I was told I could transfer my existing Microsoft Office from my old macbook to my new macbook pro without having the disc available. Does anyone know how I would go about this?

I tried to do this with Migration Assistant (OS Lion to OS Lion) and it did not work.  I called Microsoft, and they suggested various things, but in the end the following worked:
    a) Make sure that there is NO copy of Office 2008 on the new computer.  (Go into applications and get rid of the folder if it is there, and then empty your trash).
    b) Go back to your old computer and copy the entire Microsoft Office 2008 folder (which you will find in Applications) onto a memory stick or portable hard disk (it is about 1.4 gigs), and then copy that folder into the Applications folder of your new computer.
    c) Launch it on your new computer.  It will take you through registration, etc, but it should work.
NOTE:  Doing it this way works fine for everything but Entourage.  This will not migrate some of your Entourage data, according to Microsoft.
NOTE 2:  If the above does not work, erase all MS OFFICE 2008 files/folders from your new mac and create a new user profile and start again.

  • Macbookpro & Microsoft Office 2004-Entourage shutting down

I have a 4 year old Macbook Pro running Microsoft Office 2004. Entourage started shutting down about 3 weeks ago when I would click on certain emails in both inbox and junk folder (spam emails mostly). I have latest patches, have you heard of this before?
    Is there a fix?

Sometimes Entourage's database would corrupt.  Sometimes you can't fix its corruption.  But you can try with the Entourage Database repair utility in your Microsoft Office folder in the Applications folder.  If it won't repair, hopefully you backed up your data before it last got damaged.  The database file, is in your Hard drive -> Users -> yourname -> Documents -> Microsoft Office Data folder, if you want to dig it out from a backup and try an older version of it.  Be sure not to overwrite your old one, unless you don't mind risking losing some e-mail, contact and calendar entries.

  • Microsoft office:Mac

I've tried to install student-teacher edition to my daughter's G4 iBook. When I complete the installation and attempt to use one of the applications I get a message that says 'This software is an upgrade to an earlier version of the software.' I've already uninstalled the trial program. The package says nothing about the software being an upgrade. What gives?

That's very strange. Along with no phone support, the Student/Teacher edition has no upgrade path. That's one of the reasons it's so much cheaper than the commercial package. It makes no sense that it keeps telling you that it's an upgrade to an earlier version.
I just checked Microsoft's site to be sure, and there is indeed no requirement for a previous version. It does state how the Test Drive needs to be uninstalled before attempting to install the Student/Teacher version. The text is as follows:
To remove the Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive
Quit any programs that are running.
On your hard disk, open the Microsoft Office 2004 folder that contains the Test Drive.
If you saved any documents in the Microsoft Office 2004 folder, move them to another location.
In the Microsoft Office 2004 folder, double-click Remove Office.
    Click Continue.
In the Results window, click Microsoft Office 2004 (including Test Drive) and then click Continue to move that folder to the Trash. Follow the instructions on the screen.
I would guess you need to reinstall the Test Drive version so you can use its uninstaller to make sure it is removed correctly from the hard drive.
