Microsoft Office X wont run on new iMac

is this older office product not compatible??

Mac Office X is the first version of MS Office after the original Mac OS X 10.0 was released, so it's about 7 years old. Back then, Macs were PowerPC-based, so in addition to being old, you are using the Rosetta module to translate PowerPC code into Intel code, so that's another layer of complexity. It works most of the time, but not for all programs. I wouldn't be surprised if it did not work with Leopard (10.5) on an Intel Mac.
Microsoft no longer has any updates for version X, just for Office 2004 and 2008.
However, the updater is available on here
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24851
You can give it a shot, but it might be an issue with the it not working with Intel Macs.
What happens when you try to run it?

  • Equium A110-252 - Microsoft Office programmes wont run

I can't run any of the Office programmes as i'm being asked for the product key. The only product key/disc i have is for One Note. Does anyone know if i have to purchase office, or have i not been supplied the disc by the retailer? Office was already installed when purchased, but wont run until key is entered. Any help appreciated.

    Hi
Microsoft Office is not the same like Microsoft OneNote. I believe the notebook was delivered with the OneNote and not with MS Office. The key for OneNote you will find on the CD box as mentioned. But the key for OneNote will not work with the MS Office.
Therefore if you want to use Office you have to purchase it.

  • Microsoft Office won't run on new computer

I bought a new G5 and did the complete disk transfer when I booted the new system up. Now I'm getting a message that says the "test drive" of Office is complete and I need to register a new product. Can anyone tell me why this is and how I fix it without having to buy another very expensive software package.

I just got a Mac mini and had the same problem. On investigating my Applications folder, it seemed that I'd transferred the old Microsoft Office stuff okay through my firewire, but there was also a 'test drive' version of it in there as well. This meant I could open Word / Excel etc fine from the dock, and then open documents within it, but if I tried to click on a document in the finder window or on the desktop, I got the 'test drive has expired' message.
Deleting the test drive version seems to have got round the problem. (Although just occasionally a file won't open, and gives me some other kind of error message which I can't remember, and of course it won't do it now!)
However, one problem I am having is that it won't automatically open Word attachments in Mail, and I have to manually tell it which program to use every time. Anyone know how to fix this one?

  • How can I change the Microsoft Office Click to Run from drive letter 'Q' to something else?

How can I change the Microsoft Office Click to Run from drive letter 'Q' to something else?
We have a legacy app that used drive letter 'Q' already, now the newer machines are coming in with 'Q' preassigned to Microsoft Office Click to Run, and it is causing problems.  There has to be a way to change the drive letter assignment to some
    other letter besides 'Q'

    Hi,
Office that is delivered by Click-to-Run is installed on the Q drive, this cannot be changed.
To work around this problem, uninstall the Click-to-Run version of Office and then install with the traditional MSI-based installation.
To switch to using an MSI-based Office edition, you can learn something useful from this link below:

  • I installed Office:mac 2011 on my new iMac running 10.8.3 and discovoed my file transfer from my old macbook installed Office:mac 2088. Now I have both installed and none of the office apps work - I keep getting the same error message

I recently purchased an iMac to replace my 2008 macbook.
I used migration assitant to transfer all of my macbook files to the iMac. I noticed that I had the old 2008 version of Office:mac 2008 on the iMac and decided to install Office:mac 2011 which installed successfully.
However, now I can't open excel or word or powwerpoint now using either 2008 or 2011.... I just get an error message saying there was an error and the app had to close. It offers to send a report to Microsoft.
I tried moving Office:mac 2008 to trash but this didn't resolve the issue.
Can anyone help (I am not a really sohpisticated user so be gentle)
    Thanks Dave

  • Unable to open SharePoint 2010 task from any Microsoft Office application - cannot open a new form (schema validation errors)

I can’t get the Microsoft Office SharePoint Task integration to work with any SharePoint 2010 Workflows.  When any end user clicks the “Open this task…”
button from outlook (or any other office application) a warning dialog appears stating that:
    “Outlook cannot open a new.
The form contains schema validation errors.”
    The error details are:
Element '{http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml}div' is unexpected according to content model of parent element '{http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2009/WSSList/dataFields}Body'.
    Some points to note:
I can replicate this using on several computers running as different users.
I have full control over the site and the task I am trying to open.
When I navigate via the SharePoint site I can open the task.
The Info Path form that cannot be opened was automatically created by automatically SharePoint designer / InfoPath.  I have subsequently deleted the form and published
the workflow (which created the InfoPath form again).
I am running Mircosoft Office Professional Plus 2010 version 14.0.5128.5000 (32-bit)
One workaround is to remove the “Open this task…” button as per
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010general/thread/eb273ee9-6a4b-409c-8eb0-5351bb113386/. This is not ideal and will be my last resort.
Any suggestions and or thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks!

Yes, I tried that.  It did not work for me.
I have 4 site collections.  The main site collection is the only one that I receive the error.
When the user clicks on the email link  and opens the document for approval, they receive the following error when they click on "Open This Task".
Element '{http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml}a is unexpected according to content model of
    parent element '{http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2009/WSSList/dataFields}Body'.
There is nothing wrong with the task list itself, just the link from the Office 2010 client.
I am wondering if there is a web config or other file on the server that is specific to the site collection??

  • Microsoft WORD & Excel not working on new iMac

I had the MS suite of WORD, Excel and PowerPoint installed on my new iMac OS 10.8.3 by a legitimate programmer w/a totally legal license.  Neither WORD nor Excel will load up.  I get a variety of error messages (i.e. invalid file name, cannot open global template). Power Point works fine.!!!!
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing with no luck.
    Any thoughts?

Unless you used this method to uninstall you may not have correctly uninstalled Office. Do it again using the manufacturers method, Then reinstall.

  • Boot Camp refuses to run on new iMac with 10.4.7

I am setting up a brand new 17" Intel iMac for a client, and after using Software Update to download all required updates, including Mac OS 10.4.7 and firmware update SMC 1.1f5, Boot Camp Assistant refuses to run, saying that a firmware update is required.
Since I have confirmed that I have already installed the latest firmware update, I can only conclude that something in 10.4.7 broke Boot Camp or that the Boot Camp Assistant is simply not aware of SMC 1.1f5, which is the latest version.
Anybody else out there run into this problem also?

I also believe I typed the date wrong, it was 17 APR not 16 MAY it was available.
Firmware Updates are not customarily installed through Software Update. The SMC Firmware Update was an exception. Usually, because they can be a bit disruptive if you're not prepared for them, Firmware Updates are more user intentional/active. They usually require you to download them directly to your desktop, read the install instructions and install when you have prepared your Mac to receive the install without chance of interupting the process.

  • Is Microsoft Office coming out with a newer version soon?

I couldn't find it anywhere online... I mean, the current version is 2004, so does anyone know if they are coming out with a new one anytime soon?
I just don't want to buy that version, and have the new one come out in a month.
    Thanks!
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If I hadn't gotten my copy of office:mac 'free' (if one excludes the premium one already pays for MacBooks) at the time of purchase from my Apple Store, I'd be running NeoOffice, too.
Might yet, as office:mac is feeling old and clunky and, as someone has already posted, the next version of Office isn't due out till late next year.

  • PSE 8 fails to run on new iMac hard drive following Time Machine backup

I had to have my iMac hard disk replaced last week as part of the Apple replacement programme. Following the installation of the new disk I restored the entire Time Machine backup onto the new disk. Most things work perfectly but I get an error message when I attempt to start up PSE 8. The error is Error 150:30 stating "Licence has stopped working". I have attempted a number of things to correct this as described in http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html, but found that much of the FlexNet data that the article refers to does not exist on my machine, so I am unable to complete the recommended steps (I have made hidden files visible). The Flexnet files also don't appear on the backup volume. When I attempt to reload the software with the original disks I just have the disk drive make a bit of noise and then eject the disk. All other CD/DVD's work as normal. Any ideas very welcome

Download PSE 8 from the trial download site and use your current serial number to activate it:
    http://prodesigntools.com/direct-download-links-for-lightroom-3-and-photoshop-elements-8.h tml
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site.

  • Indesign won't open / run on new iMac

I have recently used Apple's automatic file transfer function to transfer all of my data / applications etc from my old iMac to my new machine (an iMac also). I am now unable to open InDesign on my new machine - it quits while opening (with a dialogue box that sayd 'InDesign quit unexpectedly'). I have deactivated and uninstalled CS from my old computer, thinking this may be causing the issue, but it still doesn't work. All other programs within the creative suite are working.
My version is CS5.5, and my operating system is Mac OSX 10.8.2
If anyone can help that would be much appreciated. Otherwise can someone provide me with an email address or phone number for support? I am in Australia and keep being directed to a US phone number, which obviously has a different time zone and could cost a small fortune..
    thank you.

Adobe applications should never be migrated. Uninstall and then install it properly using the original installation media.
