Migrate 11gR2 to ASM

We are planning to migrate 11gR2 EBS database from normal SAN storage(non ASM) to ASM file system on same unix server.
Please provide the mos doc id's for the same.

There are different ways to move datafile between non-asm to asm or vice-versa. Let me give some examples/methods that I've used quite often.
- RMAN backup/restore.
- RMAN convert command to move individual file.
- ASMCMD- cp command (11g onwards)
you can go with any one...

  • How to migrate data from oracle 9i database to new machine 11gr2 RAC ASM

    Hi Expert
I need your expertise to advise me what is the best method to move data from oracle 9i database to new machine running oracle 11r2 RAC database with ASM.
Currently my production server running on HPUX ORACLE 9I database with normal file system. My new server is running SUN SOLARIS SPACR 64 bit ORACLE 11gr2 RAC with ASM. What is best method to move data over so it will be consistent. Any guide can refer.
    Regard
    William

    Hi William,
See the note in metalink Migration of Oracle Database Instances Across OS Platforms [ID 733205.1] to saw the Endian Format of your OS. If is the same you can use the RMAN to convert the database to another OS, if not the only option is using export/import (Transportable Tablespaces).
To upgrade from 9i to 11g, see the note 837570.1 - Complete Checklist for Manual Upgrades to 11gR2.
To migrate your FS to ASM the only way is using RMAN, so see the note - How to move a datafile from a file system to ASM [ID 390274.1].
    Hope this help you.

  • How to migrate 11gr2 standby database from file system to ASM

    Hi,
I have 11gR2 data guard setup of 2 node RAC primary and stand alone standby database.
Primary RAC uses ASM, and stand alone standby DB uses normal file system for data files and archive logs. I want to migrate the stand alone standby DB from file system to ASM.
If you have any ideas or documents on it, kindly please share with me.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Fran,
Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I have another question, I want to have standby in ASM; but ASM home is grid home(CRS+ASM) in 11gr2.
I don't want to configure CRS now for standby, only want to have ASM storage. s it possible to install the grid home only for ASM and not for CRS?
On a stand-alone system, there are still CRS/Grid components that are a part of the ASM install. You cannot NOT install it.

  • Database migration filesystem to asm

    Hi
Let say I have a file system database. (10g on linux)
In other server, I installed fresh oracle 11.2.0.2 with asm on linux
What is the best way to migrate this database to this new server?

In the asm migration documents "rman BACKUP AS COPY" command is recommended.
However, ASM will be on different server, it will not be on local server.
What should be the correct steps to migrate the database to different server with ASM ?
Also, as I mentioned in my first post, I am going higher version of oracle.

    Hi,
try to create a 11gR1 SE Database on a single server with 11gR2 ASM up and running.
when dbca ask where to store the datafiles and i choose ASM, i have to give the asm sys password which i know (can connect with sql+).
dbca replies wrong password and i can NOT go further.
is it possible to use 11gR2 ASM with 11gR1 database and create a database with dbca?
    any hint for this situation?

    Hello,
    i tried again - still don't work
it is dbca step 6 from 16, storage option (or something simiular - dbca lang here is german)
    the dialog looks like this
    ASM-ID-Data (Titel)
enter ASM specific SYS password (prompt)
entering the correct pwd and push OK
dbca shows a error dialog with something like: password for user SYS not valid. Enter a valid password.
    Any help?

  • 11gR2 RAC, ASM and database

    Hi all,
I've installed 11gR2 RAC and database on Linux OEL 5.4. Everything seems Ok, I'm able to connect from client using SCAN, and load balancing works well, but "crs_stat -t" shows up some OFFLINE services, like gsd and oc4j.
Is this normal ? If yes, why it's so ? If not, what should I do to solve the problem ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Antoine

    Thanks for your answer.
Those services are disabled, and I've found this one on MOS FAQs :
With Oracle Clusterware 11g Release 2, the GSD resource will be disabled by default. You only need to enable this resource if you are running Oracle 9i RAC in the cluster.

  • Migration Of Non-ASM 11g Database To ASM

    Hi Team,
I have an instance with a standby database and Primary instance has been converted to Non-ASM to ASM(File System).
Currently i have online redolog files and standby logfiles in my primary instance and i need to recreate log files in ASM.
Do i need to convert standby instance in to ASM too?
If not, can I hold my primary log files in ASM path and keep standby server logfiles as it is?
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Charith.

Oracle allows a mix of ASM and non-ASM files at both Primary and Standby site.
The only issue is that it might confuse the next DBA when you have such a mix unless you document and explain this clearly.
