Migration of Non-ASM DB to ASM
Trying to Migrate data on ASM done all The steps
But unable to copy redologs via RMAN done the following steps
Shut immediate
Startup nomount;
RMAN> RESTORE CONTROLFILE FROM '/data/db/newdb/control01.ctl';
RMAN> Alter database MOUNT;
RMAN> BACKUP AS COPY DATABASE FORMAT '+SDC';
RMAN> SWITCH DATABASE TO COPY;
These command are successfully executed now the command is not executing
alter database rename '/data/db/newdb/redo01.log' to '+NEW';
ORA-02231: missing or invalid option to ALTER DATABASE
Please suggest. . . .
Hi
1. set control_files='+ASM_Disk_group/control01.ctl'
2. Startup nomount
3. connect to target and restore the contolfile. Restore controlfile from ' '
4. alter database mount
5. backup as copy database format '+ASM_DSKGRP';
6. switch database to copy;
7. run {
set newname for tempfile 1 to '+ASM_Disk_group';
set newname for tempfile 2 to '+ASM_Disk_group';
switch tempfile all;
8. alter database open
9. SELECT a.group#, b.member, a.status FROM v$log a, v$logfile b WHERE a.group#=b.group#;
ALTER DATABASE ADD LOGFILE MEMBER '+ASM_Disk_group' TO GROUP 1;

How to asmcmd cp non ASM files to ASM on a remote node
We have a 8TB database, RDBMS 11,1. on Solaris 10, non ASM. Need to copy the 1290 files to remote node of AIX ASM to prepare for a upgrading to 11.2.0.2.
We tried to use asmcmd cp to copy the files directly from non ASM too ASM remotely, but did not work.
$ asmcmd cp -ifr [email protected]:/oradata/prdsdev/datafiles/dev_4.dbf +PRDSU_DATA/PRDSU/TEMPFILE/dev_4.dbf
Enter password: ********

errors
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges (DBD ERROR: OCISessionBegin)
We were using the user fttr. Do we need to login as SYSASM, do we need to go through OS auth, any other privilege required. What instance do we need to login, regular database that is using the data files, or ASM instance is goin g to manage the files.
Thanks in advance1. my previous question is if asmcmd cp can accomplish the task.
2. RMAN COPY, as I know, will either copy non asm files to ASM files locally, or copy files asm to asm across nodes. which means that we have to do two steps, rather copy the non asm files to a node of asm directly. -
Copying files from ASM to Remote ASM, Fails.
Dear All,
I am trying to copy files from ASM to Remote ASM disk groups, failing with the following error,
ASMCMD-8201: (Bad argc for RDBMS:ASMCMD-8201) , any idea.
Syntax: cp -- port 1521 +RECO_ABC/ABC/BKP/xyz.dbf sys@hostname.+ASM1:+RECO_XYZ/XYZ/xyz.dbf
Thanks.cp -ifr <source file name> <user_name>@<host_name>.<Port Number>.<SID>:<targer path>/<target file name>
user_name@host_name.<Port Number>.<SID>
The user_name, host_name, and SID are required. The default port number is 1521.
reason for error :
It could be due to following reason.
* not able to reach remote host.
* Remote host listener is down.
* Remote ASM Instance is not registered with listener and running non-default port.
* sysasm remote connection does not work.
* Incorrect password given for sys user.
* Remote ASM Instance password file missing.
We need to enable additional tracing for asmcmd connection to get a exact failure message.
++ set DBI_TRACE environment variable for asmcmd perl tracing.
export DBI_TRACE=1
++ Now connect using asmcmd and re-produce the issue. -
Problem to migrate a non-global zone to a different machine.
Hi, recently, I had try to migrate a non-global zone to a different machine but its doesnt work.
1. First, this is the structure of my machine with my non-global zone:

2. In second, I had detach my non-global zone zonetest whit this commands :

3. In third, I had move my zonepath to my new host.
host1# cd /big-zone/export

How to check if fnd_users already migrated to Non-Reversible Hash Password
Hi All
How does one check if fnd_users have already migrated to Non-Reversible Hash Password or not
(as described in FNDCPASS Utility New Feature: Enhance Security With Non-Reversible Hash Password [ID 457166.1] )
thanks in advanceThanks for the update.
select * from V$OPTION where parameter = 'Oracle Database Vault';I believe this has nothing to do with password hashing.
Once the migration is done, the following should return ‘SHA’.
select fnd_web_sec.get_pwd_enc_mode from dual;Well, this is not documented anywhere (not even in eTRM) as the package body is wrapped.
Thanks,

Single-Instance ASM to RAC ASM !!
At the moment i am in process to create a RAC ASM instance on two nodes. When i was creating ASM instance it gave me error that unable to connect to crsd on Node2.
So i manually added asm instance using srvctl on node2. It is registered with CRS but it is not online. I tried starting up by using crs_start or srvctl start asm but asm resource is down on both the nodes.
I have started up manually both the ASM instance and created some Diskgroups, Now i have to create a RAC enabled DB for which it is showing convert single-instance ASM to RAC ASM.
What needs to be done.Hi
because the service ASM was added individually the crs stack is unable to recognise the clustering of ASM. In fact this has just made the ASM on two nodes function as two seperate ASM instances. They were never clustered. So i think convertion is one option. I came here while looking for one such doc. My 10.2.0.1 RAC install on windows 2003 went on a toss.. while dbca was trying to set up the clustered ASM and configure the instance, the primary node crashed and when it was recovered, i could notice the ASM instance is created on one node only.. When i try to invoke dbca again, neither am allowed to create an ASM instance for RAC/convert the existing one to RAC. Until now what I have found is that if such case arise, the quicker way is to revert everything back, clean up the server of clusterware and re install every thing... but before am looking for my options..
does any body have an idea? please share

Database migration from non rac and non asm to RAC database with ASM
HI,
i have requirement to import one database ( db1) which running one node with out ASM and with out RAC , now i want to import that database with rman backup to another database ( db2) which running on different server with 3 node RAC and ASM ( disk group +DATA ) , can you please provide me the steps how i can migrate.? ( i have created db2 with dbca with RAC).
regards,
sriSri,
This could be done multiple ways. Simplest for you is to use DBCA:

Migration Of Non-ASM 11g Database To ASM
Hi Team,
I have an instance with a standby database and Primary instance has been converted to Non-ASM to ASM(File System).
Currently i have online redolog files and standby logfiles in my primary instance and i need to recreate log files in ASM.
Do i need to convert standby instance in to ASM too?
If not, can I hold my primary log files in ASM path and keep standby server logfiles as it is?
Please advice.
Thanks,
Charith.Oracle allows a mix of ASM and non-ASM files at both Primary and Standby site.
The only issue is that it might confuse the next DBA when you have such a mix unless you document and explain this clearly.

Migration from Standalone 10.2 with ASM to RAC 11.2
Hi,
I have the following situation:
+ My 10.2 Standalone Database "DB" + ASM (Version 11.2) runs on RH 5.4/64 (Node 1),
+ My 11.2 RAC-DB "RAC" run also on Node 1.
Now I want to migrate the 10.2 Standalone Database "DB" on the RAC-Environment to a 11.2 RAC-Database "DB".
Can anyone tell me the optimal Upgrade/Migration Path ?
Thanks in advance

Edited by: hqt200475 on 13.08.2010 02:50Hi,
Normally, if you have a single database in a version and you want it to be converted to be RAC in another version, you will make the following:
1. Backup the database.
2. Install binaries of new version in single database
-- install 11gR2 as stand-alone (ASM already there, you just create RDBMS binaries home)
3. Upgrade stand-alond database from old version to new version.
-- upgrade from 10.2 to 11.2
check Note 251.1 for more details about upgrade path and checklist
4. After upgrade, convert from single to RAC using following link:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e10813/cvrt2rac.htm (for Linux)
-- of course check your platform link
Then you will have your database upgraded to RAC in new version.
Hope this give you good guidance. Good Luck.

Migrate VLDB(30TB) NonRAC database to ASM
My customer is running 10.2.0.5 database which is 30TB in size. Its HACMP/PowerHA with active/passive configuration.
Customer would like to migrate this database to ASM. They dont take rman backups because of the size of the database and rely on bcv backup technology. Customer would like to know what is the best possible way of doing this migration with minimal downtime and risk.BCV uses copy on write technology and advanced mirroring techniques. A BCVs can be used to resync data or it can be detached from the active data storage and mounted separately for offline processing.
If a complete restore of an object or previous device clone is sufficient then it can be a quick disaster recovery. However, certain implementations, like EMC Timefinder/Snapshot are not suitable for disaster recovery since they rely on the existence of the original data source.
Anyway, I think BCV technology provides only a very limited way for Oracle database backup since it duplicates data errors and is not suitable for advanced rman database or tablespace restore and recovery. A 30 TB database can be time consuming for RMAN, which also depends on what kind of database it is and, for instance, how frequent a full backup is required, but it can be done.
Regarding NAS, it is just an example to show that affordable storage solutions exist and that it does not have to be expensive EMC storage. I do not see why such a solution cannot meet very strict data center controls in terms of technical aspects. -

Please Help - When I try to add ASM Disk to ASM Diskgroup it crashes Server
We are using a Pillar SAN and have LUNS Created and are using the following multipath device: (I'm a DBA more then anything else... but I am rather familiar with linux .... SAN Hardware not so much)
Device Size Mount Point
/dev/dpda1 11G /u01
The Above device is working fine... Below are the ASM Disks being Created
Device Size Oracle ASM Disk Name
/dev/dpdb1 198G ORCL1
/dev/dpdc1 21G SIRE1
/dev/dpdd1 21G CART1
/dev/dpde1 21G SRTS1
/dev/dpdf1 21G CRTT1
I try to create to the first ASM Disk
/etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk ORCL1 /dev/dpdb1
Marking disk "ORCL1" as an ASM disk: [FAILED]
So I check the oracleasm log:
#cat /var/log/oracleasm
Device "/dev/dpdb1" is not a partition
I did some research and found that this is a common problem with multipath devices and to work around it you have to use asmtool
# /usr/sbin/asmtool -C -l /dev/oracleasm -n ORCL1 -s /dev/dpdb1 -a force=yes
asmtool: Device "/dev/dpdb1" is not a partition
asmtool: Continuing anyway
now I scan and list the disks

Well Clicking OK hun it again and I am waiting to get back into it, to see what new information might be gleened
Does anyone have any ideas on what to check or where to look????? Will update more once I can log back inHi Mark,
It looks like something is not correct with your raw device partition based on the error messages:
Aug 14 13:52:06 seer kernel: Add. Sense: Logical unit not supported
Aug 14 13:52:06 seer kernel:
Aug 14 13:52:06 seer kernel: sda: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled
Aug 14 13:52:06 seer kernel: sda: asking for cache data failed
Aug 14 13:52:06 seer kernel: sda: assuming drive cache: write through
Aug 14 13:52:06 seer kernel: sda:end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 0
It could be a number of things. I would check with your vendor and Oracle support to see if the multipath software drive is supported and if there is a potential workaround for ASM. Sorry this is not quite the solution, but its what jumps to mind based on issues with multipath software and storage vendors for ASM with Linux and Oracle. Have you checked the validation matrix available on Metalink?
Cheers,
Ben
