Migrate long text to Equipment using Emigall

HI all,
I'm trying to figure out how to migrate Long Text and Internal Note to the Equipment object. We are using the Device object to migrate the Equipment data, and I don't see anything allowing for notes of any sort in the Device object.
Has anybody done this? If so, what object did you use to accomplish it?

You can create your own Migration Ojeect to trasnfer the Long Text. Have a look at the following thread and see if it helps.

Long text always create problem either in functional location and equipements.So it becomes difficult in LSMW .the problem you will face is while recording in lsmw either you will get word document when you open long text and in main upload it will be in a format where only 72 characters per line is possible.
so it is better always if long text is involved to use BDC ..life becomes easy through BDC.

I am trying to upload Purchase Order Long text (which is in chinese Language) and Language field with ZH(chinese) in MM01 using BAPI_MATERIAL_SAVEDATA.
It is uploading properly, But in the Language field it is showing Z1(Customer reserve) instead of ZH(Chinese).
What could be the reason for this and how it can be resolved.

How to Check LT check box in IA02 - for Long text for Equipment Task list operations

Hi Experts,
I am trying to upload text for Equipment task list,i am able to upload texts at header,but not for operations.
At operations level - we have a check box LT which is grayed out - when am manually making an entry ( LT Check box - is getting checked when am creating entry manually ) - after manual entry - when i tried uploading text is working fine.
Can someone please tell me how to get the check box - checked - while saving text - using FM : SAVE_TEXT .

Routing Long text not populated using LSMW

I need help with the ROUTING LONG TEXT using LSMW. I'm using the standard LSMW direct input program /SAPDMC/SAP_LSMW_IMP . I'm confused with NAME field while loading the data. I have tried to create the routing long text manually after successful creation i opened the Longtext at header screen and opened GOTO--> HEADER there i have seen TEXT NAME is constructed based on CLIENT || N || GROUP || GROUPCOUNTER || INTERNAL_COUNTER (CLIENT||N||PLNTY||PLNNR||PLNAL||ZAEHL - field names) I used the same logic to construct the test data for another routings which were created and doesn't have the long text. I have run the lsmw program and executed successfully but when i open the routing in CA03 i dont see the long text populated.
Test data used looks like this:

I gave you most of the needed information assuming you know how to do LSMW in the first thread itself.
You need to have the following fields in your source structure in addition to other fields like long text
MANDT
PLNTY
PLNNR
PLNAL
ZAEHL
In the step Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules assign the source field MANDT to the variable NAME and then again place the cursor on the variable NAME and assign variable PLNTY, (now you have two source field assigned to same variable) similarly assign all the remaining 3 source fields PLNNR, PLNAL, ZAEHL. (now you have 5 source field assigned to same variable).
Now select the variable NAME by placing the cursor click on Rule (Insert Rule) and select the radio button Concatenation .
Make sure that in your input file you have leading zeros for PLNNR PLNAL and ZAEHL etc. like below
50000089, 01, 00000001
Also, you don't need maintain the value of OBJECT, TDID, SPRAS, TEXTFORM as source fields. You can directly maintain them as constants in Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules by click on the push button Rule .

IS-U: Migration- Issue with DEVICE object using EMIGALL

I need a quick help. The issue is here below.
I am using the object DEVICE to create Device/Equipment. I could able to create an Equipment however I found that in EQUI table the field SERNR is not updated. Actually this field should have the value of EQUNR.
I had tried many times wih differenct possible options but this field is empty in all the trials. I am also using the auto structure CONTR and its sub strucutures COMMIT, UPDATE, INDIV, CONV filling with 'X' but the result is only this field SERNR is not updated in the table EQUI.
Without this field SERNR being field I cannot perform Device Installation (Full/Technical/Billing).
Please share your ideas.

That's possible...
I assume transaction IQ01 and EMIGALL are using the same function EQUIPMENT_INSERT.
If NEW_VEQUI-EQUNR contains already a number, the function does not get a new number from the number range object, for example with external numbering. In case there's no EQUNR given, a new number is taken from the number range object, internal numbering.
If no SERNR is provided when calling EQUIPMENT_INSERT, there won't be a SERNR in EQUI. Just check if IQ01 provides the serial number when calling EQUIPMENT_INSERT.
This means another possible solution is to get a new number for EQUNR in EMIGALL and populate EQUNR and SERNR before calling the service function module ISU_M_EQUI_INSERT. Call function module NUMBER_GET_NEXT for object EQUIP_NR.
This can be done on field level by setting the Processing Type to 4 = Rule (check which of the two fields comes first - EQUNR or SERNR - to assign the number from NUMBER_GET_NEXT and copy the value for the second field) or via events see menu item Utilities: Event, when you're in the object maintenance screen.

I currently have two fields one that is a Multi-line 4000 character box. I would like to take the first 50 characters and mirror it into a small SYS short description field.
Is there a formula or a function that I can use to capture only the first 50 characters?

1)      Created Custom Long text in TAB. --> Good
2)      Entered few lines in custom Long text --> Good
         Click on Standard Tab , Leaving Custom tab and Custom Long text-->Good
4)      In PAI of Custom Tab – Changes captured using CALL METHOD 1 ( See below Code 1)--> Good
5)      Entered few lines in Standard Long text in Standard Tab -->Good
6)      Click another Standard Tab
7)      In PAI of Standard Tab – Changes captured using CALL MEHTOD 2 ( See Below Code 2)-->Good
8)      Come back to Standard Tab / Standard Long Text , Enter few more lines.
9)      Change the Tab , IN PAI of Standard Tab/Standard Text , Changes Captured using CALL METHOD2 ( See Below CODE 3) --> Good
10)   Go to Custom Tab , Custom Long text , Entered few more lines--> Good

Here is what I am trying to Achieve.
In Create Notification IW21 , They need 5 Long Text in Custom Tab ( Say Tab Name is MBR ).
TAB1 NOTIFICATION Standard Information , TAB2 REFERENCE OBJ , TAB 3 MalFunction , Breakdown Standard one...... TAB 7 ( Custom Tab ).
In Custom Tab , I added 5 LONG TEXT ( its 5 WHY Concept ).
When the User enters data in 5 Long text , it should store long text along with Notification number when save.
But Notification number will be generated @ the time of SAVE , but before that its just shows as
%0000000001 ( and Number will be generated 1000065479) at Save.
How to achive this .
I did this:
Added 5 Custom Container. and In PBO / PAI
PROCESS BEFORE OUTPUT.
MODULE STATUS_0100.
PROCESS AFTER INPUT.
MODULE USER_COMMAND_0100.
IN PBO

   CALL METHOD TEXT_EDITOR1->SET_TEXT_AS_R3TABLE ,    CALL METHOD TEXT_EDITOR2->SET_TEXT_AS_R3TABLE .. Like wise 5 , So when the user Click on Custom Tab ( MBR ).
It give 5 Long text.
When he click tab1 or tab2 or tab3 .. and again tab MBR , still data is available.
How to store this data for future retrival ( IW22 or IW23 ) ?
Its working fine when I enter first time and goes here and there and finall save .
IN SAVE BADI , I imported the Long text and created Standard Text SO10 with Notification Number with LONG1 , LONG2 .. means 1000065479LONG1 as standard text.
But not working when I entered first time and go to tab1 and tab2 and then to MBR tab and added few more lines , its not exporting full lines and in IMPORT ( SAVE BADI ) giving ZERO Lines.

If you want to print the long text, you should use the INCLUDE statement in your SAP SCript.
1. You don't have to take the pain of fetching the text.
2. You don't have to reformat the same.
INCLUDE TEXT_NAME OBJECT TEXT ID
example:-

Currently iam doing an userexit. In that i want to display error messages. and if we click on message it will display the long text. My question is i want to display field values in the long text. Under the long text's &system_response& i want to display a field value.

Hi Chinna,
Within short and long texts, you can use placeholders, which can be replaced with the content of data objects using the MESSAGE statement. A maximum of four character-type placeholders are permitted; they are indicated by #&i# in short texts, and by #&Vi&# in long texts, where i = [1, 4]. If #&# itself is to be displayed as part of the text, it must be specified as #&&# in short texts and as "&" in long texts.
To add some detail on how to create variables in Long text, you have to go to 'commands' and in symbol option provide the variables like
&V1& &V2& and so on.

Long text versions

Hi everyone !
I want to get versions of long texts (for material) based on date. I have data logging enabled in the required tables and I can see the versions of long text (for material) using transaction code AUT10. I want a similar feature in my smartform.
I tried debugging standard code, however I find it too complicated. Could some1 help me out with this ?

This is not so straight forward. First of all read text would fetch u only the latest long text. The standard program does an "import from database" and not read text inorder to read the old text. It also uses DBTABLOG table inorder to get some time and date stamps.
I am afraid that the solution that you have put forward would not work .

using FM create_text you can upload multiple lines of text.., there is no separate LSMW program for this.....

Problem in viewing long text in QP03

Hi
    Facing a strange problem while trying to upload long text in QP01 using SAVE_TEXT.
the long text is getting uploaded properly
an entry is inserted in STXH with object, id, name, etc.
but when i try to view the long text in QP03 txn. (Display), there is no icon for view long text
when i go back to QP02 in change mode, the icon for long text (Create long text without horizontal lines embedded on it) exists, after clicking it am able to see the long text and if i am saving the plan while leaving the txn, then again if i see the same plan in display mode (QP03), i am able to see the long text icon and the long text by clicking it..if and only if i view manually every long text in QP02 and save while coming out the txn., I am able to see the long text icon and the long text in QP03.
Is it any setting problem or where am i wrong?
