Migrating LR 2.2 on Win Xp machine to Vista (64)

Hi.
I want to migrate the LR catalog and presets, and backup files to my new computer. The old Computer was Windows XP, and the new one is Vista 64bit.
In general terms I have the folders and files from LR on the new computer, I just think that they are in the wrong location and LR doesn't know where to look for them.
I need help setting up the folders and files in the correct spot in my new computer so that LR knows where they are.
Specific information for anyone willing to help out.
I don't know if this is important, but I was working with LR2.2 on the old Computer, and when I installed LR on the New computer it did an automatic update to LR2.3. I don't think this should be an issue, but I should mention it first. The problem is finding the right home for the files and folders. I hope?
On the new computer I've got the Backups Folders (and all the files), and 2 LR2 Catalog Previews folders , which I don't understand why but that is beside the main point of how to get them where LR can see them. There are two groups of Lightroom folders and files. In the first group there is there are two folders and a file, and were previously located in My Documents>Lightroom of the old computer. The first folder is called Backups (5.4 GB in 50 Folders with 50 files). The second folder in the group is called LR Catalog Preview Folder and has 2.24GB, 10139 Files, 9975 Folders. There is a third File called LRCAT File (148,00KB)
In another location there is a second Lightroom 2 Catalog Previews folder (LRCAT) has 537MB, 2253 files, 13009 Folders. In the second location there is another LRCAT File (740KB). There is no Backup Folder located with these files. I don't even know where they came from but they were in my old computer somewhere, and I just brought them over in case.
Thanks for any information/help.
Ken Kennedy

Hi Victoria
Thank you for putting this resource on the web. It was very helpful with just a couple of bumps in the road.
For Windows Xp on the Old computer I think I'm OK with your instructions for finding the LRCAt folder and files. I don't think I need to install the backup folder, as when I start using the new nightmare, LR should automatically back up as soon as I open it.
The default locations for "preferences"works, as does "presets", and the "Camera RAW Cache" and "Camera Raw Presets" on the Old Windows XP computer.
For Vista on My New Computer there is a problem.
This is as far as I got with copying the Catalogs folder and files.
C:>Users>Ken Kennedy
I don't have the following selections available to me
>PhotosLightroom >Lightroom >Catalog.lrcat (this is probably the folder I will be installing though), but Photoshoplightrom and Lightroom aren't available as options, although they are installed on the computer and working?
The default location for "preferences" works.
The default for "Presets" works.
The default for "Camera Raw Cache" works.
The default for the "Camera Raw Profiles" might be right, but when I work through these steps, there is no "Camera Profiles" folder. All I have are "Curves" and "Defaults" as possible folder locations. After this sequence is where it doesn't look the same on my installation.
C:\Users\Ken Kennedy\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw
Is this because I haven't specified a specific camera profile on my new computer?
So I think I'm good except for copying the lrcat files to the correct location in the New computer.
Thanks for your help, and if You could let me know what I've done wrong or missed in the .lrcat folder that would be fantastic.

  • Network Printer connection between W2000 and Win 7 machine?

I have a HP 990CXI on a Win 2000 machine and I am trying to network connect to this printer from a win 7 machine but it cannot find a driver.  The HP site says that Win 7 should have an in-OS driver.  It seems that one is pointing the finger to the other!?

    Hi steve_podleski,
Your Deskjet 990c does have a built in driver in Windows 7.  The main challenge is getting Windows 2000 and Win7 to share resources.  I have steps written for Windows XP and Win7 but I don't know if they would work for Windows 2000.
Here is an excerpt from the document:
Step three: Setup a share account on each computer in the network
Create a common share account on each of the computers, including the computer that is sharing the printer to the rest of the network.  This share account must have the same name and password on each computer.
If you decide to use an existing account that appears on each computer all ready, this existing account must be password protected. If you do not want to password protect your default login, create a new share login as described in the following steps.
    Windows XP
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Control Panel
    3. Click User Accounts
    4. Click Create a new account.
    5. Enter the same user account name created as the share account on the Windows 7 computer.
    6. Click Next.
    7. Under “Pick an account type”, select ‘Computer Administrator’.
Note: In Windows XP you must select Computer Administrator in order setup a printer.
    8. After you new account is created, select it under ‘pick an account to change’.
    9. Click Create a password
    10. Enter the same password used when creating the share account on the Windows 7 computer, following the directions on the screen.
    11. Click Create Password button.
    12. Log off your current user account and log into the new share account to activate it.
    13. Once the computer is ready after logging into the share account, you can log off the share account and back into your regular user account.
    Windows 7
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Control Panel
    3. In the upper right corner ensure that View by has Large icons or Small icons selected.
    4. Click User Accounts
    5. Click Manage another account
    6. Click Create a new account
    7. Select Standard User
Note:  The account created should be created with the lowest security setting necessary.  Creating the share account as an administrator is discouraged.
    8. Enter a new user account name.  Use a name that is easy to remember as the account used for sharing resources across your network.  For example: ‘ShareAccount’
    9. After your new account is created, select it under “Choose the account you would like to change”.
    10. Click Create a Password
    11. Enter a new password, following the directions on the screen.
    12. Click Create Password button.
    13. Close any remaining opened windows, making a note of the new account name and password as you will need to create identical accounts and passwords on the other computers on your network.
    14. Log off your current user account and log into the new share account to activate it.
    15. Once the computer is ready after logging into the share account, you can log off the share account and back into your regular user account.

Probably yes. I doubt you will get any answer better than that. It is, for all intents and purposes, a 10+ years old software and few will even dare and try this. You realyl should look into more contemporary software.

  • Printing problems for a win xp machine

I have a win XP machine on my airtunes network. i have tried everything under the sun including boujour, but can't send a print job from the XP machine to my printer. The printer is hooked up to the airtunes router. I have a powerbook G4 and power MAC G5 and have no problems spooling jobs to an epson 777i. I know the printer works, because i had it on the XP machine. Anyway i need some help. when in the XP machine i can see the printer on the network and it says that it is shared. When I try and print, it spools then gives me the error that there is a connection problem. I am using EZ armour on the PC (Anti virus and firewall), but I think I have the proper ports opened, because all my computers can see each other on the network.

When you use Migration Assitant it creates another user account and puts your files there. Please log out of your normal account and log into the new account. Had you use Setup Assistant when it asked if you were migrating that would not have occured. You have a couple of options, combine the two accounts (not recommended) or start over, use Setup Assistant and have everything in one user account. Here is a link to Pondin's guide for Lion Setup Assistant tips however if you want to combine the two accounts he has addressed that in

  • Migration assistant doesn't see my time machine backup

Since upgading to mavericks migration assistant no longer sees my backup on my external drive that I use for my time machine backups. The drive mounts fine and I can access my backups through my finder using "enter time machine", but I can not restore because migration assistant can't see the drive. I don't knoe if it's a time machine issue or a mighration assistant issue. I have tried on several macs and with several different hard drives but migration assistant cannot restore from my time machine backups. I suggest everyone make sure they can restore from their time machine backups because this may be a major problem and result  in complete loss of data. I have found no solution yet.

Here are the articles I have on Migration Assistant. None of them had the answer to your problem (or at least I couldn't find it). Check what you did versus the recommendations in the articles is about the best I can offer.

Does every backup require lots of indexing?  If so, the index may be damaged.

  • Problems networking Win 7 machines in workgroup

    Hi All.
I have 2 Win 7 machines and I am trying to share files between the two. Specifically, I want each to be able to see (read, write, edit, etc) the other's D drive (and all folders within). From one system, I can see the other system's D drive. But when I try
to open it, I get a Windows error:
    Network Error
    Windows cannot access \\COMPUTER-A\d
You do not have permission to access \\COMPUTER-A\d. Contact your network administrator to request access.
The Public folder on drive C IS shared. I replicated those settings and successfully shared my user folder (Snarl/snarl) on each C drive). But when I tried to replicate those settings for my D drive, it did not work.
The main source of confusion is why I'm able to share folders on drive C, but not share drive D in the same manner.  I have conducted extensive web searches and tried many different suggestions. I don't know how to troubleshoot further/resolve. Here's
    what I have already tried/checked:
    COMPUTER A is running Win 7 x86, while COMPUTER-B is running Win 7 64-bit.
Both are members of the same WORKGROUP.
The user on COMPUTER-A is 'Snarl.' The user on COMPUTER-B is 'snarl.' I tried adding a new user, 'snarl,' to COMPUTER-A, but Windows informed me that name was already in-use (as 'Snarl'--there is no user 'snarl' on COMPUTER-A).
    Neither user uses a password.
    Both network types are 'Home.'
D is not the Windows partition--C is.
The following are set on both systems:
    --Network discovery is on
--File and printer sharing is on
    --Public folder sharing is on
    --Password protected sharing is off
On the D drive for each system, I have carried out the following:
--Properties-->Sharing-->Advanced Sharing-->Share this folder is checked. Share name is "D"
When setting drive permissions on COMPUTER-A, I am not allowed to add a user from COMPUTER-B. I have tried the following:
Properties-->Sharing-->Advanced Sharing-->Permissions--> entered the username 'snarl' and clicked 'Check Names.' The name changes to COMPUTER-A\snarl. The "From this location" field is set to COMPUTER-A and is greyed out. When I try to
click the Locations... button to add users from COMPUTER-B, only COMPUTER-A is available. When I try to add the user manually (COMPUTER-B\Snarl), a "Name not found" box comes up and I am prompted to edit it. The same happens on COMPUTER-B--I cannot
    add a user from COMPUTER-A.
I realize using a HOMEGROUP might be easier, but I would like to understand how to carry this out in a WORKGROUP. I have tried everything I have found on the web.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
We cannot share a root of drive to the specific user over the workgroup. Where you add the User names to the "share with" list only applies to a workgroup where all members are using the same machine.
For your situation, we have two options:
    1. Share the D drive with Everyone, and all users in the workgroup can access it.
    2. Create a Homegroup.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Running .bat files as administrator on win 7 and win 2k8 machines

I have .bat which will be copied onto Win 7 and Win 2k8 machines remotely. The batch file contains scripts to stop and restart Windows services, like,
net stop "Adobe Acrobat Update Service".
Now when I run this batch file, I get "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied."
I understand that I need to run this batch file as administrator (here by administrator I mean, Windows default administrator.).
Does anyone have a solution for this?
P.S: 1) "run as" command inside the .bat file won't work, since you need to run the .bat file itself as administrator (here by administrator I mean, Windows default administrator.).
    2) I can create another batch file (say b.bat) containing the "run as" command and invoking the the original batch file (say a.bat), which has the command net stop "Adobe Acrobat Update Service". But still, this won't solve the issue, since you can run as,
the user, who has administrator privileges and not run as administrator (here by administrator I mean, Windows default administrator.) itself.

    Suhas,
Can you explain me why you want to do this?
Maby there are there some beter ways to achive your goal.
The reason why this doesn't work is UAC who strips the administrator tokens from your user account.
So it is not nesseary to use the default windows administrator account. Just a user with administrative priviliges will do you only need to run this command elevated.
There are several ways to run this command elevated:
Just right click on the batch file and choose the option run as administator.
Quite simple but a no go if you wanna have a fully automated solution
Use PsExec.exe  from the pstools suite (avaible
    here)
If you use the command like this:
    PSEXEC -u domain\user -p password -h net stop spooler
    PSEXEC -u domain\user -p password -h net start spooler
Or from a remote machine (pcX = remote management machine, pcY = machine where you want to restart the service.)
Execute this command on machine pcX:
    PSEXEC \\pcY -u domain\user -p password -h net stop spooler
    PSEXEC \\pcY -u domain\user -p password -h net start spooler
Create a sheduled task with the "highest privlilges" that executes your batch file.
    etc ...

Program runs in win 7-64 Pro BUT will not run in win 7 home or vista.
I'm testing 32bit software that will run in 7-64 Pro but will not in win 7 home premium or vista.
The 7-64 Pro machine is NOT running the program in XP mode although is is being run as admin. The 7 home premium and vista beta testers have tried every work around/mode, admin mode, and anti-virus exception. I've run process explorer & WinMerge to evaluate
the differences between os operations & dlls loaded but am unable to find the OS issue.
Currently 2-win7-64 machines, 1 vista machine and 1 win 7 machine had no issues with the program as it started up and ran immediately.
After 3 beta's 30 hours of testing & 50 of my own, I believe I've narrowed the issue down to the win 7 home premium and vista os's.
Can anyone here suggest other ways to further narrow it down so as to provide functionality on all 3 os's?

You must provide the exact name and version of the software for anyone to attempt to answer your question.  Primarily the functionality of any software is entirely dependent on what platforms the publisher intended the software to run on.

  • How to move Acrobat 7 Professional from old Win XP machine to new Win 7 machine?

I've been using Acrobat 7 Professional for some years on my old Windows XP computer and recently bought a new Dell WIndows 7 64-bit computer.  Although I no longer have my original installation disk, I did copy all the installation files to my old machine (and copied them to the new one).  When I tried to install the program on my new computer I get the error message "Serial Number Invalid."  The number I used was the 20-digit number that appears when I click "About Acrobat 7.0 Professional" on the old machine's program.  Why won't it work?  What am I doing wrong?  BTW, Acrobat 7 has worked fine for me up until now.

Eek, sorry for the multiple posting, I keep trying new things and needing to report back. SO, in those accounts that I thought I'd "fixed," I tried going back in and changing the settings back to the way I like them, i.e. leaving the messages on the server for a week (because sometimes I like to see messags on my iphone too) and as soon as I did that, it started downloading old messages before, i.e. back to the same problem.
Meaning, there's no workaround for the account I share with my business partner, because the only way I've "fixed" it on my personal accounts is to have mail removed from the server immediately, which is not possible on the accounts I share. (And is kind of a bummer for my personal accounts, too, given that I like to see mail on my iphone too).
Sorry for info overload, just trying to be helpful and cover all the bases. :-)

  • HT201250 I just had a new hard drive installed in my iMac.  Migration manager cannot see my external Time Machine hard drive to restore the files and applications.  The drive is operational in Finder

I cannot seem to migrate the full time machine backup from an external hard drive back to the new hard drive.  Finder sees the drive and files.  When I use Migration managers, it only sees the computer hard drive after I select the time machine option to restore the files.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
With what OS X version did you make the backup? If it was the same as the version you are using now, you don't have to use Migration Assistant to restore the backup. Instead, there's a safer and better method, but you will lose all the changes you have made since the last time you made the backup.
Just hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start into OS X Recovery. Then, select the option to restore a Time Machine backup, and follow its steps. Also, you will be able to select the backup you want to restore

  • How can I read a Win 8.1 Boot Disk on a Win 7 machine?

I just had what I think was a power supply failure on my HP desktop running Win 8.1.
My issue is, while the machine is away getting fixed, I need to be able to read content from the HDD, to use my HP Laptop to do work in the meantime.
I have a USB bridge that I often use to hook up to SATA drives, to read/write, etc.  But for this disk, when I connect it to the interface, and plug it into the Win 7 laptop USB, it shows up as a RAW drive, Keeps wanting me to format it.
I know this probably has to do with the encryption "feature" under UEFI, and Secure Boot, but I'm getting out of my depth with the nuances of 8.1.
I know it should be possible to read this disk, given the proper software, etc.  But how do I do it?  I really need access to some of this data, and read-only access would be fine with me, if that is all I can get.
I did create a "Recovery Hard Disk" for that machine on another drive, so I have that, but until I get the machine back, that doesn't seem to do me any good.  Or will it?  How?
Anyone have any ideas?  Any suggestions?  This is getting to be a major headache...
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Hi,
What's the disk type of Windows 8.1 system, GPT or NTFS? It's really hard to identify where the problem it is, but you can try to fix the Disk by using checkdsk command:
Open CMD, then type the command: Chkdsk /f X: X stands for drive letter.
If there is any progress with this problem, please feel free let me know.
