Migrating SSRS custom security from 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012
Hi,
We have built custom security in SSRS 2008 R2 and now we are migrating it to SSRS 2012. We are facing an issue, it always throws Security exception below and when we are changing
web.config file to below line we are getting "500 Internal server error". Tried everything, no luck... can someone please assist here whether we need to rewrite entire custom security code and then migrate it to SSRS 2012 custom
security. Any help here much appreciated

Unable to upgrade SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012 SP1
I'm encountering error after error, after successfully installing the upgrade advisor (which took some doing) and running it with essentially no warnings/errors (the one warning was on the connection strings, as I recall -- and all of the warnings had a
"fix after" status.
First failure involved SSRS and the inability to create the "managed account". Backed out the upgrade using http://sqldbanotes.blogspot.com/2013/10/how-to-fix-failed-in-place.html
Now the failure involves SSAS and unable to connect to analysis services with name MSSQLServerOLAPService. That is the logical name for the service, although it shows up as just MSSQLServer when looking at it in the services list. I tried
setting the service account to a local account as well as to Local System -- did not make a difference, the upgrade couldn't apparently find it regardless.
Has anybody successfully done an in place upgrade from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012?Hi Bob,
Thanks for your post and I am glad to hear that the issue is resolved. Thanks for you posting a reply to share your solution and I had marked it as answer. That way, other community members could benefit from your sharing.

Data Retrieval from SSRS 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012 standard
Hello,
We have a virtual machine running SSRS 2008 R2 and a physical server running SQL server 2012 standard. We are having an issue with a report that is taking almost 10 minutes for the data to be retrieved from the sql 2012 database. We used the
execution logging query to debug and analyze. We see that it renders and processes very fast, but the data retrieval time is very slow. When the same query is run using sql studio mgr. from the SSRS server it runs just fine...it
takes seconds for the results to come up.
I don't believe there is a compatibilty issue because other reports run fine. We're just having problems with one report.A long shot, but I've seen where the data type of a report parameter is mismatched against the data type of the table it is being compared against. SQL profiler would show this clearly.
This would explain why the query returns quickly in ssms but not with the report. -
Package migration from SSIS 2008 R2 to SQL server 2012
hi guys:
My company has decided to use Sql server 2012 for the database service, Integration service as well as analysis service
The first question is which tool I should install to run packages ? in SQL Server 2008 R2, I've installed BIDS which is inside the disk.
Also do I need to install any visual studio tools? I was under the impression that the BIDS 2008 was using kinda shell visual studio.
Thanks
Hui
--Currently using Reporting Service 2000; Visual Studio .NET 2003; Visual Source Safe SSIS 2008 SSAS 2008, SVN --Hi cat_ca,
To develop package in SQL Server 2012 Integration Services, we use the SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT 2012) which can be installed from the SQL Server 2012 install media. The SSDT 2012 use Visual Studio 2010 shell by default and can be integrated into Visual
Studio 2010. By installing SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012, we can also integrate SSDT 2012 into Visual Studio 2012. However, SSDT 2012 cannot be integrated into Visual Studio 2013. As far as I know, the SSDT 2014 released
in SQL Server 2014 RTM will use the Visual Studio 2013 shell and can be integrated into Visual Studio 2013.

Jon StrohHello,
Just as Mike post above, the issue may occurs as the previous SSDT releases are not compatible with this new version of DACFX.
You can refer to the following blog about this issue and download the latest release of SSDT from

Tsql import from xml to table - sql server 2012 = (o row(s) affected)
Hello,
here is my XML header and footer:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<streetAndCities xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<record>
<rowIndex></rowIndex>
<cityCode></cityCode>
<cityName></cityName>
<streetCode></streetCode>
<streetName></streetName>
</record>
</streetAndCities>
with a bunch of <record></record> tags with data inside....
I'm trying to import data from my XML file to my new and empty table with the following code:
DECLARE @xml XML
SELECT @xml = x.y
FROM OPENROWSET( BULK 'c:\st.xml', SINGLE_CLOB ) x(y)
INSERT INTO tblCitiesStreets(rowIndex, cityCode, cityName, streetCode, streetName)
SELECT
x.y.value('(Column[@Name="rowIndex"]/text())[1]', 'INT') rowIndex,
x.y.value('(Column[@Name="cityCode"]/text())[1]', 'NVARCHAR(255)') cityCode,
x.y.value('(Column[@Name="cityName"]/text())[1]', 'NVARCHAR(255)') cityName,
x.y.value('(Column[@Name="streetCode"]/text())[1]', 'NVARCHAR(255)') streetCode,
x.y.value('(Column[@Name="streetName"]/text())[1]', 'NVARCHAR(255)') streetName
FROM @xml.nodes('Root/DataRow') AS x(y)
but the output I get is
(0 row(s) affected)
and of course when I select * from tblCitiesStreets, the table is empty.
what is wrong with the code?
regardsNothing's wrong with your code. You're working with the wrong file OR - I guess - you have copied those XPath expressions without further looking at them..
This works with your XML:
DECLARE @xml XML = N'
<streetAndCities xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<record>
<rowIndex>1</rowIndex>
<cityCode>2</cityCode>
<cityName>3</cityName>
<streetCode>4</streetCode>
<streetName>5</streetName>
</record>
</streetAndCities>';
SELECT Record.value('rowIndex[1]', 'INT') rowIndex ,
Record.value('cityCode[1]', 'NVARCHAR(255)') cityCode ,
Record.value('cityName[1]', 'NVARCHAR(255)') cityName ,
Record.value('streetCode[1]', 'NVARCHAR(255)') streetCode ,
Record.value('streetName[1]', 'NVARCHAR(255)') streetName
FROM @xml.nodes('streetAndCities/record') AS StreetsAndCities ( Record ); -
I am investigating the impact of upgrading from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012. To reduce the impact of the upgrade, I am planning to restore / create our application database onto SQL Server 2012 with compatibility level 100 (SQL Server 2008 and
SQL Server 2008 R2).
Are there any differences in feature support for database running in native mode on SQL Server 2008 R2 vs a database installed on SQL Server 2012 with compatibility level 100 set?Are there any differences in feature support for database running in native mode on SQL Server 2008 R2 vs a database installed on SQL Server 2012 with compatibility level 100 set?
Yes there can be difference and impact there are few features deprecated in SQL Server 2012 you must be aware about that. Please see
Deprecated Database Features in SQL Server 2012
Deprecated SQL Server features in SQL Server 2012
After you migrate database to 2012 please don't move ahead with production unless you have tested your application to new created database

Sql Server 2012 - Standard/Custom Reports in SSMS
Hi,
I want to develop my own Custom Reports in Sql Server. I want to know the underlying report logic (tables used, joins etc) of the existing
Standard reports thru SSMS. Is it possible to locate the source code (.rdl) of these Standard Reports to get an idea about the underlying logic which could be used in my Custom Reports ?
I am using Sql Server 2012
ThanksHello,
The standard reports are embedded in an assembly, you can not get the source RDL reports ... without conflicting copyrights.
Customer reports are pretty easy, the database connection is passed from SSMS to the report, just design the report as you like, see
Custom Reports in Management Studio
You can get my customer reports for SSMS 2005 (you can upgrade them to your used version) as an example here:

Things to consider when removing from AD domain a SQL Server 2008 which includes Reporting Services
Do any one have a link to a list of things to consider when removing from AD domain a SQL Server 2008 which includes Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services?
I am taking from an Active Directory domain several servers with SQL 2008 and Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services. The server will stay on its own without association to any domain, the server will keep its IP address and
the server will not change names.
I have done some research and I got the basic steps including, removing the user accounts from the domain, changing the services accounts, changing jobs and databases from being owned by users from the domain. But...
Are there other things in Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services internal databases that have an association with the domain AND that will fail after no longer being in the domain?
I've heard of Reporting Services subscriptions failing when the domain user account is no longer there...Are there any other got ya's that any one has encountered?
Please advice.
Note: I am posting in this forum basically because of what I heard on Reporting Services, but it may be a better idea to post into a more broad forum such as SQL Server Migration section.
Thanks beforehand

I have an Script mostly that is generated by SSMS which works with-out issue on SQL Server 2008, but when I attempt to run it on a new fresh install of SQL Server 2012 I get an Msg 8631. Internal error: Server stack limit has been reached. Please look for
potentially deep nesting in your query, and try to simplify it.
The script itself doesn't seem to be all that deep or nested. The script is large 2600 lines and when I remove the bulk of the 2600 lines, it does run on SQL Server 2012. I'm just really baffled why something that SQL Server generated with very
few additions/changes AND that WORKS without issue in SQL Server 2008 R2 would suddenly be invalid in SQL Server 2012
I need to know why my script which is working great on our current SQL Server 2008 R2 servers suddenly fails and won't run on an new SQL Server 2012 server. This script is used to create 'bulk' Replications on a large number of DBs saving a tremendous
amount of our time doing it the manual way.
Below is an 'condensed' version of the script which fails. I have removed around 2550 lines of specific sp_addarticle statements which are mostly just copy and pasted from what SQL Management Studio 'scripted' for me went I when through the Replication
Wizard and told it to save to script.

Leopard Server 10.5.2 hosed after Security Update 2008-002 v1.1 Server
I am running Leopard Server 10.5.2 on a Mac Pro 2x3.2 GHz quad core xeon. I did a software update today which included Security Update 2008-002 v1.1 Server. I did disk verify and permissions repair on as usual before the update. Afterwards, I found that I could not log into my local user account with administrator privileges. I can log in as "root" using the local administrator password. All my users can log in. But all the groups have disappeared, and so have the wikis associated with these groups. The data seems to be there in /Library/Collaborations, however.
This was a simple server configuration with 5 users - I was essentially using only the groups wiki function. The server had no client machines. Its not like I had a complex configuration. I am absolutely mystified - spent an hour on the phone with Apple support and they took all the server logs for analysis. I was wondering if anyone else had this update go wrong in a similar configuration.
I would be very grateful for any advice!I had the same thing happen. It took me a while to figure out why because I installed the update before the weekend and then came in on Monday and nothing worked. I've searched around quite a bit and found some people had the same problem but haven't found a solution. Right now my server is sitting there useless, even after reverting to a backup before the update.
Did you or anyone else find a solution to this?
