Migrating to J2EE Platform.

Dear Sir,
We are currently using Forms based systems. Our company have decided to move to J2EE platform. In our applications, we extensively use all the forms concepts like timer, hierarchical structure, etc. Now my doubt is, do J2EE platform support all these features or should we have change our design accordingly. Can we use JDeveloper for our migration purpose? None of us in our company knew how to use JDeveloper, any online guide available for that? Please help me by giving useful advices and links.
Thank you very much in advance.
Regards,
Senthil .A. Perumal.

  • An EFFECTIVE development directory structure for J2EE platform?

Hi, here we r talking about deployment environment more than development
environment. Have u ever think about designing an EFFECTIVE development
directory structure for J2EE platform( e.g. weblogic )? u r not using the
    deployment directories for coding, r u? :)
I used to construct a dir structure for dev and want to improve it.
    d:/wholesystem/*.prj // Project files
    ...../module1/src/com/.... // Module source files
    ...../module1/doc/... // Module doc files
    ...../module1/classes/... // Module class files
    ...../module2/...
    ...../web/*.jsp // web page files
    ...../web/images/... // web page images
    ...../web/WEB-INF/... //...
Do u have any good ideas? Thanks!

Create a web-inf folder at the same level of src and
    jsp folder inside src
    i mean
    /build.xml
    /src/
    /src/java/<package>/...../*.java
    /src/demo/<package/...../*.java
    /src/test/<package>/....../*.java
    /src/jsp
/web-infSo, would you put in /src/jsp only the *.jsp?
And what in /WEB-INF ? What woud you put there? Would you do something like:
    /WEB-INF/web.xml
    /WEB-INF/src/<package>/..../<my_servlets_and_j2ee_stuff>.java
    /WEB-INF/classes/<package>/..../<my_servlets_and_j2ee_stuff>.java
In this manner sources and classes are in the same tree, it does not seem very clean to me, expecially if you consider that probably I must have a "test" directory to unit test some j2ee stuff (as for the j2se stuff in "src"): how would you do that?
Is this directory structure anyway what you meant or not?

  • How to convert oracle forms in j2ee platform

    hi,
i want to know how can i convert oracle forms into j2ee platforms. if is it possible then please tell me the steps that i need to follow .
    thxs

What you are asking is a bit like "how can I convert a dishwasher into a washing machine".
If you want to know the the steps I would say.
    1) Work out what kind of washing machine you want to convert to
    2) Learn the technical details of that washing machine
    3) Rearchitect your diswasher plans so it fits into the "model" of a dishwasher
    4) Now spend lots of time money and effort doing it.
Now, I don't know if thats going to help you. But if you tell us the WHY it might help formulate a response

  • Problems with my installed J2EE platform.

I am having trouble working with the J2EE development environment. My issues are as follows:
    1. In trying to run some of the examples include with the environment I have noticed that I do not have all the same directories and directory structure as specified in the the tutorial. For example, a step in the tutorial references using a file in the <INSTALL> (sun\appserver)\docs\tutorial\... directory, I do not have a docs\tutorial directory underneath my <INSTALL> directory. Are there different directory conventions implemented based on what platform to which you are installing the J2EE environment? (We are running WindowsXP Professional)
    2. At the beginning of the tutorial it makes reference to adding some additional information to your path. One such example is adding the <INSTALL>(sun\appserver)\shared\bin directory. I do not have such a directory. I have a <INSTALL>(sun\appserver)\bin directory but not a shared\bin directory.
(Note: Could the above problems be corrected by merely uninstalling and re-installing the J2EE platform?)
    3. When I try to run the Duke's Bookstore servlet example I get an HTTP 404: File not found error. Does this error have something to do with the structure of my created web component, my browser (IE), or something else entirely?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Michael Sucena

Note that tutorial is not being shipped as part of J2EE SDK distribution - it is separate download and must be downloaded and unzipped independently of J2EE SDK installation which you already have. Download URL is here:
    http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/download.html#tutorial
Only after you download this, you can start following environment setup instructions you are refering to. Please note that you'll have to deal with two different installation directories - one is installation directory of J2EE SDK (one you already have), the other one is installation directory of tutorial (i.e. location where you will unzip downloaded tutorial) - these two may or may not be the same, so pay close attention to instructions. Some of your questions might also be covered in this thread:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=14&thread=470575&tstart=30&trange=15
(namely, <install_dir>\share\bin folder is now obsolete, unfortunately reference to it was not removed from Tutorial instructions)
    Hope this helps....

  • Life Cycle Management of J2EE Platform

Posted By: John Oristian on February 27, 2003 @ 02:56 PM
With all of the APIs and Components involve in the J2EE platform how does one maintain a synchronized system as api/component version change?
If I am using specification 1.3 does that imply a certain configuration of api and component revs? When spec 1.4 becomes the new specification and I change all api and components to that supported version can I expect my apps developed under 1.3 to work whit 1.4 Spec?
Is there an SCM tool for the J2EE platform- or is that even necessary?
    Looking forward to your thoughts.
    Thank

  • Reading MAGTEK Devices on JSP/J2EE platform

We are developing a Web application on J2EE platform and require to support cetain peripheral devices such as MAGTEK PinPad and Card Swipe
(http://www.magtek.com/) connected to a PC port.
I am thinking of having two threads, one for reading from the port and one to write to the port. The whole purpose of doing this is to support the MAGTEK Pin Pad peripheral device on a Browser. The device is connected to the COM5 port and it simulates the keyboard. So once the data is keyed on the Pin Pad it is transfered to the port from where the application would be reading it.
    Following are my questions.
    1. How are overlapped I/O operations supported in Java?
    2. Are there any API's for doing the same?
Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

  • Migrating Local J2ee porject to NWDI

Did any one work how to migrate local J2ee projects to NWDI.
If you have any documentation other than the one below.
    can you please forward me.

    Hi,
Did you have any problems with the documentation? The docs exactlly describe the steps how to migrate from local DCs to NWDI conrolled DCs. If there are questions left, please post a detailed question!! And as a hint, if you follow the steps in SAP help carefully everything would work.

  • Deploying servlets on the J2EE platform.

    Hello all,
I have a pretty simple question. Does the J2EE platform have a web server for deploying servlets or do I need to download something to add to the platform to be able to run servlets? I have completed going through the tutorial for developing Dukes Bookstore Servlet. I got it to run and everything is fine. I have developed an HTTP Servlet that I need to run for an application to communicate with. I went through the steps I needed to be able to deploy this servlet through deploytool but I am getting an HTTP 404 error telling me the servlet is not available. Am I getting this error because the J2EE platform is only designed to run it's own example programs, meaning that I need to add a web server to the platform to get non J2EE examples to run through deploytool? Or is there some other reason for this error? If you need to see my HTTP servlet source code let me know and I will post it? Thanks, in advance, for any information you can give me concerning this issue.
    Sincerely,
    Michael Sucena

Sorry, I should have said "shell variables". They set a number of them in that catalina.bat file. The actual call to java has a line:
    %_EXECJAVA% %JAVA_OPTS% %CATALINA_OPTS% -Xrunjdwp:transport=%JPDA_TRANSPORT%,address=%JPDA_ADDRESS%,server=y,suspend=n %DEBUG_OPTS% -Djava.endorsed.dirs="%JAVA_ENDORSED_DIRS%" -classpath "%CLASSPATH%" -Djava.security.manager -Djava.security.policy=="%SECURITY_POLICY_FILE%" -Dcatalina.base="%CATALINA_BASE%" -Dcatalina.home="%CATALINA_HOME%" -Djava.io.tmpdir="%CATALINA_TMPDIR%" %MAINCLASS% %CMD_LINE_ARGS% %ACTION%
Comment this out. And place an "echo" command in front of %_EXEC_JAVA%. That should output the command the script is trying to run instead of running it (you may have to enclose or escape some of the above in quotes, my DOS scripting has been unused for a while). You should be able to see a typo in the command line being executed.
Other than that, I am not sure what the problem might be. There is no reason to load a file starting with "-D", as this is a command-line argument for the java executable.

  • Migrating my development platform from J2SE to J2EE

    Context: Windows 2003 Server Edition
I downloaded and installed J2SE 5.0. Now I want to download J2EE 5.0 to get into some serious application development.
    Should|Must I remove|uninstall J2SE first or can I just download and install J2EE over J2SE?
Does it make sense to have both coexisting on my server/development machine?
    Thanks
    Jim

this is not an exlusive-or situation.
you will develop j2ee apps using j2se code and j2ee code.
    do not uninstall j2se :)

  • Migration of j2ee app from Sun one App Server 6.0  to Sun one 6.5 Server

    Hi all,
Currently I am involved in "J2EE" ear (webapps) migration from Sun One 6.0 to Sun One 6.5 Application Server on solaris os.Since the version and functionlity itself is major change in Sun One Server, my team had decided to build the source file and decided to port to Sun one 6.5 App Server. On doing build and compiling all source files, EJB compiler is failing on Sun one server 6.5.
Our findings on migration was as follows:
Sun one server 6.0 and its EJB compiler internally uses "kfcjdk11.jar" which is the base library to generate ejbs for "Enterprise Archive or ear file " of the application.Hence our application is suceessfully getting compiled and built on Sun one server 6.0 and running pretty fine.
However, "kfcjdk11.jar" still present in Sun One 6.5 server but its not been referred by SUN One 6.5 EJB compiler. So any successfully ear file deployed on 6.0 App Server, can be deployed on Sun One server 6.5. But to test applications/product's cycle, ear file deployed on SUN one 6.5 throws runtime errors and white screen is displayed to the user.
I had already included kfcjdk11.jar file into classpath, still its failing to compile the files.
The one of the error description is as follows:

    Hi,
web applciation uses some of platform specific API which are not portable to App server 7.0 like uda.framework etc.
So to streamline process we are migrating applcaition to 6.5 server and also planning to rewrite whole archietecture to port it to another app server.

  • Migrating 9iAS J2EE Applications to 10gAS

Is my 9iAS(9.0.2) J2EE applications can be migrated to 10gAS(10.1.2) without any changes? If no what are the changes required in my applications (Programs).
My Application consists of 9 War files and one DAD(which is pointing to Oracle DB for Some PL/SQL Stuff, i dont think which will cause any compatibility, bcoz we are planing to migrate the Application server only.).
And I am interested on Linux platform.

    Error: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.reports.jsp.ReportTagExtraInfo
OK, this seems to be a classical usage issue of oracle report. See metalink note 270403.1 or this thread Re: Report Paramter on the Reports, which is, in fact, the right place to post questions and search for answers for reports related problems .
Please tell me if this helps.

    Hi,
This might be because in one of the java files, certain methods which is to be implemented because of the interface it extends are not implemented or overridden.
Try to override/implement the methods as follows:
right click on the java file->source->Overide/Implement methods and then choose the relevant methods.

    New Server details
Operating System : HP Unix 11
    Database server : Oracle 10g 10.2.0.2 R2
So can some please give the steps to follow to migrate existing 3 databases to the new server
    Thanks,
    Amol

Take a Full Metadata Datapump Export from the Source Database.
Use SQLFILE option to generate the SQLfile.
Exeute the same in Target Database.
Take a datapump export of Source database with Data and import into Target with EXCLUDE=INDEX,CONSTRAINT,TRIGGERs option.
Create the indexes and other objects after the Datapump import.
    Re-compile the Invalid Objects.
You can even perform this using Network_link option.(no need for export dump at file system level if used). You should have better network connectivity between two servers.
