Acrobat 8.1.5 no longer works on Mac after migrating to new computer

Since migrating the contents of my old computer (2011 MacBookPro) to a new one (2014 Mac Mini), this application no longer works. After I open a PDF, a few seconds later I get the message "Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional." The problem is that I don't have any other Adobe apps to launch. This app came as part of a bundle with the ScanSnap scanner. How to I get Acrobat 8.1.5 to function on my new computer?

I have the same problem - my data had better not be gone! Why won't Apple address this problem?

Migrated to new computer - now Creative Cloud Desktop Application won't work

Hi,
After migrating to a new computer (Mac Book Pro running OS 10.9.4) I can't run any of my Creative Cloud apps. When I try to start I get a prompt to download and reinstall the Application manager. After the installation the Creative Cloud dropdown tray is completely blank with no applications list or sign-in fields, and I get the same prompt when trying to start an app.
I have tried the reinstallation several times, as well as removing the opm.db file but still no luck.
I'm completely stuck here, what more can I try?

Have you tried using the Cleaner tool before reinstalling? The problem might stem from the migration process - Adobe applications need to be installed, not transferred.

Messages app not syncing after migrating to new computer

Scratching head tonight...
Used the migration assistant to move my profile from my 2011 MBA to my new 2013 MBA
Migration Assistant ran flawlessly (supposedly)
After completing the process, rebooted the new MBA and logged in without issue -- loaded the Messages App and the historical data is there, but nothing new is showing up on the computer
Messages sent are showing on my iPhone and are still showing in the old profile on the original MBA but not on the new MBA
Obviously the data migrated over since the historicals are there, but why would the sync break and how can I fix it?
Messages -> Preferences -> Accounts show the iMessage account enabled with all the appropriate addresses (phone number and icloud.com and me.com)
I tried logging out and logging back in to Messages as well as the iCloud -- no joy...
Suggestions?

Hi,
I don't have a second computer that can also run Mountain Lion so that I could test this.
In normal circumstances if you remove the Apple ID from the iMessages account on the Mac then re-add that Apple ID you get a pop up on you iPhone and iPad when you open Messages that the computer (by Name) is using the Apple ID.
The temptation with a new computer is to create an Admin account that ends up being based on your Name which in turn creates the name for the computer (See System Preferences > Sharing).
I am not sure if issues can arise if both computers end up with the same name.

IChat AV: Unable to chat after migrating to new computer

Hi all,
I used Carbon Copy Cloner to migrate my entire drive to a new computer while my wife uses my Powerbook on a job out of town. Everything seems to be working fine--except that while we can chat with other folks, we cannot chat with each other. We really want this to work, so that our four year old daughter can see her mom. Can anyone suggest why this is happening?
We have both trashed all four iChat prefs and recreated our AIM accounts. I have even created a new MobileMe account. Our computers recognize each other, we can invite each other chat, we can accept the invitation, but then we always get the "communication error" message.
Again, as I say, we both can chat with others, so this does not seem to be a port or iSight problem. I would guess it's something deeper in the OS that prevents the computers from talking to each other because they think they are each other. I couldn't find anything to change in Accounts in System Prefs. But what do I know?
Any advice?

Frankly, also a big thumbs down to the Apple engineers who never considered this issue or posted a helpful hint about it. Could it be that hard to consider this situation? Perhaps so. Still, what a simple fix--yet one I would never have thought of. Why should "sharing" issues prevent iChat functioning? How would I know, being kept in the dark by Apple? There is, I'm sure, a clear answer if Apple would treat us like adults. But since they want to avoid that (it's like politics), we're dependent on the kindness of strangers. Thank you, Ray, for being my kind stranger today. Watching my wife and daughter laugh together on iChat was an experience beyond the power of my words to convey.

Migrating to new computer from DW MX to DW8

I bought a new computer in the last year. I'm a graphic designer who does a little web site work. My old machine is a Mac G4 MP with DW MX. My new machine is a MacBook Pro intel with DW 8. I haven't bothered to migrate my sites from my old machine to my new one, but the G4 is getting buggy so its time. My question is this: Is there an easy way to migrate my sites from my old computer to my new one? Ideally I'd move my sites file from my old comptuer to my new one and the viola -- I can open them up on my new machine with all the database intact.
Any help would be great.

The .ste file is what you need. But you also need to bring over the files (HTML, CSS, JS, etc.). Dreamweaver's .ste file just stores your FTP settings, local paths, etc. The HTML files can just be dragged from one computer to the next. And by the user folders I mean that inside each users "Home" are a bunch of folders named Desktop, Documents, Sites, Library, Music, Movies, etc. I said user's because if you have more than one user on the machine you only need to bring over the one user's set of folders and because if your old username was johndoe and you are now johnadoe then the path will have changed from the first computer to the second. In which case, your .ste file would load in DW, but you would need to set up the local path of the site to match the new location.
My original impression of your situation was that you bought a new Mac recently with no data on it, and the Mac wizard can actually move your user home folder and settings from one computer to another. But since this computer has been in your possession for an extended period this is no longer a valid point. So you are correct that you don't just want to overwrite folders, but rather just bring over the files you need and place them on the new computer.
The Application Support folder you mention will not be necessary to bring over. Typically the data stored in there is specific to the application and a specific version. This data includes the layout of the program (ie: did you drag windows to certain locations or in later versions did you save the workspace layout). Because you are changing versions in the process these files may not serve any purpose as Dreamweaver will typically create a new set of files in the Application Support folder during the installation for the newer version.

Slideshow Migration to New Computer

I used a Backup from my old computer (PhotoShop Elements 8, Windows XP).
The Slideshow Projects made it across but, without audio. Is there a way to Migrate the SlideShow Projects in full?

If I use migration assistant to send things to new computer, I don't seem to be able to select/deselect individual items to migrate - only ALL programs, ALL files, etc..
Migration Assistant doesn't allow individual applications to be selected. It's all or none.
You can either delete VMware before or after. It depends on what your plans are for the older Mac.

Adobe Acrobat X: migrating to new computer and Windows 8

Have used LapLink to move all my programs to a new computer. Adobe will not run on the new computer. I get an error 6 within the box labeled 'Configuration Error'. Any suggestions?

I really mean Acrobat X... on the files in my computer it says Acrobat 10. Am I looking at the wrong listing? I have removed most of the files in the program file called Adobe. I have uninstalled the program.

Personal folders not visible in Thunderbirds after migration to new computer

I moved my Thunderbird profile to a new computer (and edited profiles.ini to point to the backed-up profile. Now in Thunderbird on the new machine I have the Local Folders Inbox, Sent, Trash, but the Personal Files folder with my saved and categorized mail sub-folders is not visible in the left-hand panel. It appears to be intact in the /Mail/Local Folders/Personal Folders.sbd/Archives.sbd folder, just not visible when I run Thunderbird.
What do I have to do to get these folders and their subfolders back again.

I had the same problem, and believe I found the solution. I was transferring a profile from one computer running Win XP to a new computer running Win 7.
I could see the file folders evident, as you did, using Windows Explorer to look in the profile folder, but they were not showing in the left hand pane of Thunderbird when it was running as they did in the XP machine.
I went to the "Tools" menu, selecting "Account Settings," and then clicked on "Local Folders" in the left portion of the dialog box. Then in the right portion of the dialog box under "Local directory:" I selected the "Browse" button. I then browsed down into the "...AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\Mail\Local Folders\Outlook Express Import.sbd" ( in my case - the very last portion of yours might be different but should probably still be a ".sbd" file, and of course, the eight x's would be the random name Thunderbird assigns to your Profile file. ) I then clicked the "OK" button at the bottom of the dialog box. ( I believe the program then informs you it must close and restart. ) Anyway, go ahead and close Thunderbird and restart at this point.
When it restarts, my old folder structure appeared as it did on the earlier machine, and all the files were intact.

Migration to new computer of Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.

I have de-activated my version on the old computer and installed the program on the new computer. On start-up it shows a screen asking to enter the serial number, I did that and checked that it was the correct serial number for Acrobat Pro XI. But it announced that this was not the correct product and I was asked to select the product and to enter the serial number; I could not select the right product Acrobat Pro XI but I did insert the serialnumber but t the same question popped up again.

I think it is probably asking for the serial number of a "qualifying product", correct?
That is the old version you had before, which allowed you to buy an upgrade. Vital to keep BOTH serials forever.

I physically moved all my music from one computer to the new one in the same locations. I want the new computer to have the exact settings as the old for itunes. If I export the library and the playlists and then import them, will this accomplish my goal?

Copy over everything in the iTunes folder that you haven't already copied over...
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

Help Migrating To New Computer With Older PSE Version

I have PSE8 that I'm moving to a new computer. I have the serial number but do not have the CD anymore.
All I can find on the Adobe website to download is PSE10 -- how do I find PSE 8 to download, or do I just download PSE 10 and use my PSE 8 serial number?
Or am I somehow screwed because I don't have the CD anymore?

Your serial number wont work with PSE10. Did you ever make a back-up copy of the disk?

Why won't an application launch after migrating to new computer?

I have a new non Intel 2.3 Ghz G5 OSX 4.7 1.5 GB RAM that I used the migration assistant to move files from another non Intel G5 OSX 4.7. We use Quark 6.5, Photoshop and Illustrator as our main working applications. I had to reinstall Photoshop and Illustrator 10.0.3. I've been able to boot up all the other applications on the computer except the Illustrator app. I've reinstalled several times. But each time when it looks like it's going to open, it crashes and gives me the "send report" window. I've tried asking questions on the Illustrator forums site but no one there seems to know what to do. I've thrown away the .plist, installed Illust. 9 to update from, used another disk to install from and also created another account to see if it is a system problem (and it did the same thing there, too). I have another G5 set up with the same software and it works fine. So I know this software will work on this computer. Can anyone give me any direction from here? Kappy or Dr. Smoke, if you're listening, can you help me out?

It might be simpler to boot the new machine into Target Disk Mode, hook it up to a machine that works, and clone from the working machine to the new one. Use Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper!, Disk Utility (restore function), etc.

After migration to new computer -- null file is missing on existing project

I just moved to a new MacBook Pro from an old MacBook Pro (same models just a faster chip with more RAM). I migrated everything from the old to the new. I went to burn a DVD of an existing iDVD project that used a 5.0 theme and saw that an error was present. The main theme background image is missing and I get an error reading "The file (null) is missing." Any suggestions?

I've never tried to "migrate" an exiting iDvd project to another mac and I'm not even sure how well that works.
But if I were moving an existing iDvd project from one mac to another assuming they both had identical versions of iDvd & QT as well as similar assets for the project in question (ie, templates / themes), then I'd do the following which applies to both iDvd6 and iDvd'08:
