Migration Assistant Glitch?

As background, in case it plays a part in any of this, I accidentally hard shut down my Macbook Pro Retina (2012) when it was just starting to actually boot up.  This required a visit to the Genius Bar where they erased it and reinstalled Yosemite.  They were unwilling to reload it from my external hard drive which has a bootable clone using Carbon Copy Cloner.  So they created a "temp" user account and password.
When I came home, I decided I did not want the full clone being transferred since that would mean getting the original Yosemite download back (with all of its problems).  CCC said to use the Migration Assistant to get my data over without the previous Yosemite.
The first time I ran it, it had the option of replacing the "temp" account with my permanent user account on the backup selected, so I kept that vs changing it to keeping both user accounts.  It then showed 3 folders to copy - Applications (40.24GB), Documents & Data (338.24GB; this had my home/user account folder in it at 11.53GB and a "other files & folder" at 293.94GB with no drop down list to review), and Computer & Network Settings (no GB noted).  This made an obvious "There is not enough free space..." error message since I have a 250GB drive.  Noticed the trash bin on my MBP suddenly had files in it, but did not look at it right away.
I deselected the "other files & folders" and the "music" file under the home/user account (since I have a separate partition with iTunes on it), it appropriately showed my selected data at 52.7GB with an anticipated 184.2GB available after transfer message, but then popped up the same "not enough free space" message so it would not finish.
I then additionally unchecked the Applications, since the user account had my applications folder under it.  Again, it accurately reflected this change by showing I had only 12.4GB selected with 224.4GB available after transfer but still would not run do to the "not enough free space" message.
Apple is clueless and implying it must be something about CCC backup.  They had me rerun MA but had me select the "Save both user accounts".  Same issues occurred.  CCC claims it has nothing to do with the backup (noting that the "other files & folders" is probably the safety net data the program maintains and "ok" not to transfer).  The EHD has been working and has been tested as bootable, though not before my unfortunate hard shut down goof.
Anyone know what might be going on here?  Is this Apple's issue, a complication of my goof, CCC's issue, or some other combo of issues?  No one seems to understand why MA appropriately finds and notes data and space allocations, but why it then won't run due to this odd "not enough space" response.
As a side note:  if I found myself trying to drag and drop data back to the MBP from this EHD, is there a way to isolate the old Yosemite so I don't accidentally bring it back over?
Thanks.

You are using 3rd party app to create a backup of your files and then you are trying to restore it via Migration Assistant. Migration Assistant was designed to work with Time Machine Backups and with restoring from one mac to another. If CCC claims it should work with Migration Assistant, then they should give you informations how to do it and what is wrong.

Copy your home folder from CCC backup to /Users folder on your mac and then simply re-create your account by using System Preferences > Users & Groups pane. Remember that your username needs to be exactly the same as your home folder name.

  • Migration Assistant & ComputerName, A Small Glitch

When I used Migration Assistant to move everything from my PowerBook G4(Tiger) over to my new iMac(Leopard) it brought the PowerBook's name along with it. I would like to rename my iMac with its own unique moniker to avoid confusion when I set up a wireless computer to computer sharing network. I'm not sure how & where I go to correct this situation.
    Thanks In Advance

Now, how simple is that?? Nit-picking non-problem solved! Thanks Kappy

  • Can't access old backups after reinstalling Lion and restoring with Migration Assistant

Scenario: App Store developed a random, repetitive, failure to update certain apps.  After trying two different solutions which only worked for a couple of weeks (including archive uninstall)  Apple Support and I decided to go the full hog and do a full Lion reinstall.  Did a full final backup with TM and proceded to reinstall from the recovery partition.  All went well.  I gave my new account the same name as my old original one (and this might be the root of the glitch I will describe).  When Lion was working again I used Migration Assistant to recover all the users, applications, and information.
As my new main account and my old one (coming from Mig Assist) had the same name, MigAssist asked if I wanted to merge them.  I said "yes".  All fine.  Everything was apparently there.
Later that day I tried to access my bank and discovered that my 1Password db was an old version.  I went to TM to retrieve the one from my pre-reinstall backup.  As I had mapped my mac back to the sparsebunddle file in TC it seemed I had access to all my files going back 1.5 years.  It showed my oldest backup as Sep 2010 and 700 gb used.  All seemed normal.
Unfortunately, the purple bars before the moment of reinstall are all faded and I can't retrieve any information from them. Nothing before that moment is available, not from the Finder or from withing any other application.
My new merged main user appears as "carlos 1"  when it should have been just "carlos".
Do you guys have any advice that could help me?  Thank you in advance.
    My TC is a 1TB 2009 one.

No, there is no "merge" option:
You can rename or replace, not merge.

You have two separate accounts now.
See Problems after using Migration Assistant for an explanation of what's happened (the blue and pink boxes) and a possible fix in the tan box -- but that won't work if you've done any backups since using Migration Assistant.
If you have done backups, your best bet is to do a full system restore, selecting the last backup from before you did the Migration.  See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14.

  • Can i interrupt migration assistant air

    Hi
My existing macbook and new macbook air have been transferring info since yesterday morning via wifi/Migration Assistant.
They have been goin at it all night and still have 10 hours to go. I'm appalled.
I have to leave shortly to go on a trip and need a laptop with me. I was hoping it would be the Air but that obviously can't happen.
If I pull the old Macbook out will I have to start the whole transfer again from scratch? Would it harm the donor Macbook?
    Thanks
    Ian

It should not harm the donor Macbook. Here's a recommendation for the next time you try it. Migration Assistant is not real reliable over wi-fi. Back up your Donor Macbook via Time Machine onto an external drive. If you've never done this before, it may take a few hours--just a few, not  nearly so long as this.
If you then hook up that drive to the Air, and use Migration Assistant to copy onto it the Time Machine copy, it should take you no longer than about thirty minutes to an hour for the Air to become a clone of the original Macbook.
Also, don't be too sure that the copy hasn't already been made. When you stop this and cut off the Air from the Donor, you may find that Migration Assistant hasn't told you the whole truth. Time estimates and such are made moment by moment by the computer and aren't always reliable. They may even be completely wrong thanks to some glitch or other. Maybe the transfer has happened.
Have a good trip with whichever computer you take--and sorry Migration Assistant was a pain.

  • Migration assistant to look at ext HD

I was told by a mac genius that I could use migration assistant to get files from an external HD. It doesn't recognize any of my drives, internal or external that are hooked up to my mac. Am I missing something?
    thanks

Which Mac? There's more than one in your profile.

You could use Firewire Target Disk Mode.
    To transfer files using FireWire:
Shut down the computer to be used as a disk. Leave the other computer on.
Connect the two computers with a FireWire cable.
Start up the computer to be used as a disk, then open System Prefernces, click Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. (Or, start it up while holding down the T key.)
A disk icon appears on the desktop of the other computer.
Transfer files by dragging them to and from the disk.
Eject the disk by dragging its icon to the Trash. (While you drag, the Trash icon changes to an Eject icon.)
On the computer you used as a disk, push the power button to shut it down, and then disconnect the FireWire cable.
The only glitch might be your MacBook model might not have a Firewire port.

  • Only minimal email transferred via Windows Migration Assistant.

I just completed Windows Migration Assistant.  The only email transferred (from Outlook and Win XP) was the Inbox and Trash (not Sent, not all my subfolders).  Is this what's supposed to happen or was there a glitch?  Documents transferred fine.  Thanks!

  • Duplicate applications after using Migration Assistant

I'm posting this because I haven't seen this topic addressed yet regarding using Migration Assistant for transferring data from old G5 to new Mac Pro.
I used the Migration Assistant, which took hours to transfer data and stopped the first time due to a power backup overload. The second time I ran it, everything had transferred successfully, and I've been using my Mac Pro for almost two weeks now, with slight glitches that have been easily solved.
Here's my situation: In my Applications folder, there are a number of applications that have "(from old Mac)" as a suffix. Specifically, all of my Adobe Creative Suite applications have duplicates, as does Cocktail Extras, Corel Painter IX, DiskTracker (Mac OS X), Extensis Suitcase X1, Fetch 4.0.2, Finale 20045 and 2005b, and FontDoctor X for Macintosh.
Needless to say, I would like to recover the additional disk space that these duplicates are occupying, but is it okay to simply trash the ones that say "(from old Mac)", as I backed up my old G5 right before runnning the Migration Assistant, and I still have it sitting here, just in case something bad happens while I'm in the middle of a project? Or, should I trash the new ones? The Creative Suite apps have been activated on the Mac Pro, so I'm assuming that the "old Mac" ones could be deleted.
Anyone having any experience with this? I don't want to reinstall a lot of things unless I have to, as I will be upgrading a lot of the apps as soon as Intel-native versions are released, and things are working well so far.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.
    2 x 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   8 GB RAM
    1.8 Mhz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Yes, it's OK to trash them. You have transferred items that are from a PPC Mac to an Intel Mac that apparently had Intel versions of the same software already installed. You definitely do not want PPC versions (this does not apply to most Adobe software which is PPC-only.)
Unfortunately, Migration Assistant doesn't always know when not to transfer PPC software to an Intel Mac. This is especially a problem for the /Home/Library/ and /Library/ folders because MA may overwrite Intel components with PPC components. This can cause the Intel Mac to run slowly or not at all.
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (does not work), TechTool Pro (pre-4.5.1 versions do not work), SuperDuper (newest release works), and Drive Genius (untested) may not work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.
Additional links that will be helpful to new Intel-Mac users:

Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode or copying the critical contents to CD and DVD or an external hard drive will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.
Basically the instructions you should follow are:
    1. Backup your data first. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    2. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    3. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    4. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
    4. Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist (* This is a very important file which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences.)
/Home/Library/Preferences/ copy any preferences needed for third-party applications
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
Credit goes to another forum user for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

Unfortunately, if you find problems with your new computer it may be due to problems that arise when migrating from a PPC Mac to an Intel Mac using Migration Assistant. If this be the case your only recourse is to reinstall OS X. You should also reinstall your third-party software (or update it) to be sure you are using universal binary versions (if available.)

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

  • Migration Assistant Foibles

I juat bought a 27" 3.2 GHz i3 iMac and decided to use Migration Assistant for the first time to transfer my apps and other files from my late 2.16 iMac (also on 10.6.4). Unless I made some mistakes, my personal experience is that Migration Assistant is not everything it's supposed to be. I chose to have everything transferred. Here are a few things that did not go as they should have:
Mail: both of my email accounts were completely messed up; the account and server names were incorrect and I had to delete and set them up manually. My various folders (mailboxes) were transferred, but most of them suddenly have quite a few duplicate emails (so far, I've deleted over 200 duplicates and I'm not done). But, after setting them up myself, both accounts work.
At the HD level, MA created a "home folder (old)", but it was empty. At the user level, my Documents folder was transferred; but every folder in it had the prohibitory sign. I didn't have access to any of them until I changed the permissions. That resulted in quite a few interesting messages when I repaired permissions. However, once I transferred whatever I needed, trashed the old folders and deleted the account, the messages disappeared.
Applications: Not all apps were transferred and it would have been better if none of them had been: The old iMovie HD and iWork suite were ok, but I had to put in the registration code. In fact, none of the many registration codes (or .plists) appear to have been transferred. FCE and Aperture seem to be working after putting in the registration codes, but I have not had time to actually use them (other than starting and quitting). Third party apps: I've had to send an email to one developer and beg for a new code (once newly installed, the old code no longer works unless the eSellerate files are transferred as well). Adobe Photoshop Elements wouldn't even open, so I had to uninstall and start over. And the list goes on.
Previously, I had always copied whatever I needed including the Preferences folder to an external and/or CD and simply copied them over manually. Tedious, but it worked. In a way, this process was more tedious having to fix all the mishaps.
I'd appreciate some ideas or insights on what could have caused these glitches.
Other than that, the machine appears to be awesome and, according to the Xbench tests I ran last night, more than 2.5 times faster than my old iMac - big improvement . I've had to take down the resolution a notch so I wouldn't have to squint and increased the font sizes in Finder and browsers, but, in general, they are still acceptably sharp. Still trying to get used to the huge screen - a lot of real estate to look at!
And, most importantly, so far there do not seem to be any display, clicking or noisy hard drive issues (hard drive is a Seagate).

+That would not have been an issue, if you had used migration assistant immediately upon startup of the new computer.+
I did not have that opportunity because the initial setup was done in the store to make sure there were no immediately noticeable screen or noisy hard drive issues. Besides, I was under the impression that MA could be used anytime - as an example, see the pink box on this page:
    http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/19.html
I had also read most of the MA related articles on Apple's support site detailing "fixes" for various scenarios (iLife, third party apps, accounts, etc), which seemed to indicate that MA is far from infallible.
+The duplicates in your mailboxes occurred because of the emails that are still resident on the email server (on the internet).+
Sorry, but that is definitely not the case here. None of the main folders (Inbox, Sent, etc) contained any duplicates and each had less than 10 emails in it. The duplicated emails hadn't been on the server for some time because:
    (1) all the duplicates were in the (sub)folders I created in Mail "on my mac", having been moved from Inbox or Sent to keep organized, and many were from 2 - 3 years ago and
    (2) Mail is set up to delete all emails from server immediately upon download (POP account) and
    (3) just to make sure, I regularly check on the Comcast site and manually delete any strays. Comcast is POP only, so there is no way these would have still been on the server (the Comcast default is 30 days for deletion).
+An alternative "do over" approach would be to start with a clone of your old iMac onto the new one. So you would put the two computers physically close to each other and connect them with a firewire cable.+
It would seem to be a lot easier to just plug in my external HD with the bootable clone and use SuperDuper to clone the system back? For right now, things seem to be working although I really have not had time to do anything besides migrate/uninstall/install, answer some emails, and these posts of course, so starting over may or may not be necessary. Having spent this much time on it, I'd rather not start over unless it appears to be necessary and, for any future migrations, I will feel far more comfortable doing it my way - that way, it takes a bit longer, but it just works.

  • When starting Migration Assistant it cancels transfer without warning Why?

I have a new used macBook Pro which I have restored to factory settings then all updates and installation of Mavericks. Now I am attempting to transfer everything from my Mac Mini, also Mavericks, using Migration Assistant. Both computers recognize each other and all appears well until just after thenew computer finishes checking the old one. It calculates space then before I can do anything I get a message saying Transfer Cancelled. The old computer logs off and needs restarting and I'm forced to quit Migration Assistant on both computers. What is wrong? Anyone know? Thanks

If you are migrating to a larger internal HD, then, percentage wise, these files would be taking up less space on your machine. Where are you getting these percentages from?
Finder Menu > Apple Logo About this Mac > More Info > Storage

  • Migration Assistant - Failing to Transfer some Files?

I just used Migration Assistant when setting up my new MacBook Pro to pull over the contents of my old (early 2008) MacBook Pro. The Software ran without a glitch and the new machine is functioning normally.
However, when I look in "About This Mac - More Info - Storage", the aggregate memory used by files on the hard drive of my new machine for categories such as "Audio" and "Photos" differs from that on my old machine (about 10-20% less than the space used for these on the old machine). I didn't see any settings to select only a partial transfer, so the process should have pulled over everything, and now I'm worried there may be important files stranded on the old machine. Finding these amongst my library of music and photos could be very time consuming.
Does this mean not everything transferred, or could there be another explanation? I do recall that in iPhoto and Lightroom on the old machine there were placeholders for images that it said were no longer on the computer. Perhaps this is related and these "ghosts" explain the difference in what was pulled over?
    Thanks for any advice.

  • After a Lion clean install, how do I retrieve my data from external back-up? Following Apple advice for use of Migration Assistant did not work creating similar issues leading to clean install.

After a Lion clean install, how do I retrieve my data from external hard drive?
Following Apple advice I used Migration Assistant which crashed new system twice which is why I had to clean install Lion in the first place.
Is there a sure way of doing it?
I have only a few programs that I will have to install myself and that should not be a problem.
I just want my data, music and photos back where I can use them.

Time machine backups. I went to migration assistant a few hours ago and limited my selection to "users", no need for applications, settings and other files.  Stuff started moving over at a fast pace but has now seemed to stall.
I will let it run overnight as there are lots of songs and photos as well as a few movies.
If that does not work, then I will go into TM and try restore. I have restored some things in the past such a mail files and it has worked well.
The Apple fellow at the store told me to go right into TM, he may have had a point. I'll get it eventually.

  • I transferred data from my external hard drive to my restored Mac Book Pro via migration assistant and now my external hard drive in time capsule has red minus signs. How do I get rid of that without getting rid of any of my data?

I used Migration Assistant to transfer my data from my external hard drive via Time Capsule to my restored Mac Book Pro. When I now go into Time Capsule I there are red minus signs in the corner of all the folders that are contained in my back up. How do I get rid of this and access my previous back-ups?

Select the drive and Finder > Get info and at the bottom "ignore permissions on this volume"
You can copy the files, but the ownership on the files still belongs to the other user account, once your done copying, then perform a #6 Reset Users Permissions and that will set all the ownership to that account.

Another method is to copy the entire folder, then change it's permissions.

  • Migration assistant stopped working and has left me with 100gb in 'other'? How do I delete 'other' and what is it exactly?

I recently invested $2000 (one week ago) in a Macbook Pro Retina 2014 2.8ghz 512gb. Dont get me wrong, I am in love with my product and am extremely satisfied but I have honestly encountered nothing but issues.
My first issue was the transferring of data from my 2010 white macbook 500gb. Both laptops have Yosemite installed and are 100% up to date but I have spent the last week getting them to talk to each other. I am not new to the workings of Apple but I have never endeavoured to use applications such as airdrop, migration assisstant or even bluetooth.
My first attempt was to transfer 200gb of files (Photos mainly, I'm a photographer) to my other laptop via a 64gb USB in segments. But after an hour and only 10gb getting copied across, I decided other alternatives may be of more help.
That is when I came to my first dilemma: AIRDROP. Airdrop is crazy. Yes I did click the option on my retina to search for older macs and yes they did connect. I can send files from my MBR to my white macbook 2010 immediately but my old macbook will not send files to my retina. Yes all of the necessary sharing settings are in place - both MacBooks have the same settings selected so I cannot figure out what to do. Information on this subject would also be helpful yet it is not the end of my troubles.
    Second Issue: Migration Assistant.
So yesterday I discovered this little 'gem'. I am a very impatient person so you can imagine i did not appreciate 20 hours of file transfers (via wifi as i do not have a thunderbolt to ethernet adaptor for MBR). Anyway that's all well and good if it actually worked. But of course it did not. I followed apples instructions and I was down to my final 4 hours this morning when my MBR told me the connection was lost and to reconnect. It was making the loudest whirring noise like air coming from inside the hard drive or something. I freaked out. My $2000 machine should not be doing this. It was only a little bit warm; not hot but it was incredibly loud, I'm not sure how to describe it. Keep in mind this computer is brand new so please tell me: WHAT WAS THE SOUND?!?!?!?! AND WHY? what was wrong? what could I have possibly done wrong? My wifi WAS working because my desktop PC was connected. So i waited and waited. Of course I couldn't actually do anything without quitting airdrop and in the end that's just what I had to do. A lot of time wasted for such an unsuccessful cause.
That brings me to my final issue:
So after migration had.... "completed" or crashed or whatever you want to call it, I at least assumed some of the files had maybe copied over and i could just resume from where I left off last time somehow. Oh how stupid that assumption was. My user account did in fact copy over but not a single file copied. And yes, I did log into that user account to check. ANYWAY, I went onto "about this mac" to see my storage info (still being optimistic about my wasted 20 hours). SURPRISE SURPRISE: Yet another problem. I now have 100gb in "other". This macbook is brand new. I should not have any GB in other. I am so incredibly annoyed. HOW DO I DELETE OTHER?! (preferably without downloading software) and is there anything else of importance in other that i should be careful not to delete that is contained within other?
I am only 15 years old  and this was a massive investment for me so I treat my Macbook like a baby. And no, I'm not spoilt by my parents. I had to work at Subway for a year to earn $2000 - without spending a single cent (My wage is only $9.00AUD an hour so i essentially worked some 222 hours for this macbook). And I'm not crazy, I needed it for school.
Anyway I'm not impressed with apple. I have Applecare but they aren't open on the weekends or whenever I try to call so that hasn't exactly been helpful. PLEASE HELP ME.

Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the page that opens.
In the keychain list, an item named "System" should be listed. If it isn't, select File ▹ Add Keychain from the menu bar and add the following:
    /Library/Keychains/System.keychain
Now search in Keychain Access for the name of the wireless network (not the name of the router.) Double-click one of the items and check the box labeled Show password in the inspector window. You'll be prompted for your keychain password to confirm. Make a note of the network password. Then delete every "AirPort Network Password" in the search results. Quit Keychain Access.
Go back to the Network preference pane and recreate the Wi-Fi connection with the same settings as before. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.

  • HT4796 Migration assistant is telling me that it has lost connection with my Mac and to ensure they are on the same network.  They are, and an ethernet cable is plugged into them.  What do i do?

Migration Assistant has been running since yesterday evening.  My Dell is now telling me that its trying to reconnect to my Mac and to ensure they are both using the same network.  I have an Ethernet cable plugged in them and they are both on the same WiFi.  What can I do?

    Hello Wyodor,
thanks for your reply on my question.
You are wright the index file is 308 KB.
And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)
    greetings Lasource
