Migration WebSphere V6 Applications to Weblogic 10.3.5

Hi,
Want to see what's the best way to migrate websphere v6.1 applications to weblogic 10.3.5.
what are the necessary steps, changes or problems involved in it? is there any appropriate documents related to it?
thanks in advance...

Hi there,
Have you finally figured out what the migration steps are?
Has anybody pointed any good documentation with regards to your question? We are also interested in migrating actually from Websphere v7 to Weblogic v11
Thanks in advance.

• Migrating Toplink IAS app to WebLogic – SessionManager and NoSuchMethod

Hello,
I've migrated old IAS application to WebLogic. This is simple app (no EJB just POJO) written using JDeveloper 10.1.3.5 and Toplink version 9.0.4.
Everything works fine on IAS application server.
Migration process in steps:
1. Moving sources to JDeveloper 11.1.2.3.0
2. All POJO-s and Toplink mappings were recreated from database (no old sessions, mwp files left)
3. Application compiled with no error
4. Prepared ear file includes war file and libraries like com.oracle.toplink_1.0.0.0_11-1-1-5-0.jar etc.
EAR deployed to local WebLogic Server 12.1.1.0.
First Struts action making access to database generates error like below
java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: oracle.toplink.tools.sessionmanagement.SessionManager.getSession(Loracle/toplink/tools/sessionconfiguration/XMLSessionConfigLoader;Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/ClassLoader;ZZZ)Loracle/toplink/publicinterface/Session;
Line of code looks like:
XMLSessionConfigLoader loader = new XMLSessionConfigLoader(getSessionsXmlPath());
Session tmpSession = SessionManager.getManager().getSession(loader, sessioNname, this.getClass().getClassLoader(), true, false, true);
This code compiles in Jdev environment and this method exists in class.
EAR modified as described in thread
NoSuchMethodError when deploying app EAR
Lib files moved to APP-INF/lib, weblogic-application.xml modifed to
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1250'?>
<weblogic-application xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-application http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-application/1.1/weblogic-application.xsd" xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/weblogic-application">
<prefer-application-packages>
<package-name>oracle.toplink.*</package-name>
</prefer-application-packages>
</weblogic-application>
Unfortunately no success. I've tried putting toplink classes into domain lib folder but message is the same.
Is there any chance to run this application on WebLogic server ?
Thanks for help
Tom

Try restarting admin and managed servers.

• Migrating from WebSphere 5.1 OR WebLogic 5.1 SP1 To SunOne App server 7

Hi all,
I have an application which is compatable with WebSphere 5.1 or WebLogic 5.1 SP1 and i want to move it to SunOne Application Server 7.
the migration tool don't support these Versions, so can anyone tell me how to migrate or When the updated version of the Migrator Tool will be available?

The migration too supports migration from SunOne Application Server 7 to weblogic 5.1 (http://wwws.sun.com/software/download/products/3f577172.html). Please check.

• OIM 9102 BP12 Migration from WebSphere 6.1 to Weblogic 10.3

Hello,
We're planning to move(9102BP12) from WebSphere6.1 to Weblogic10.3.
I found Oracle metalink which says -
================================================
JDK Migration restriction:
You can only migrate to JDKs that falls with in the same groupings.
Group 1: Sun JDK, Oracle JRockit, HP JDK
Group 2: IBM JDK.
Example: If you are running OC4J using Sun JDK then you can migrate to Oracle WebLogic Server using Sun JDK, Oracle JRockit or HP JDK. However, you can't migrate to IBM JDK.
==============================================
This is because the data in the OIM schema is encrypted using the IBM's encryption libraries which are not available for Sun JDK. What i understand is that the IT resource configuration details are encrypted with installed JDK. However, if we re-configure the IT resource with Weblogic setup (after installing oim on Weblogic poining to the existing database), we could proceed with this migration.
Has anyone executed Websphere to Weblogic migration before for OIM? Any input will help.
Thanks,

Sorry for the delay as I got busy with my current project. Here are the answers to your questions.
1) If i install WLS point to existing OIMDB, do i necessarily need to copy old .databasekey from WAS environment?
<Abhi>: Yes, you will have to copy these files to the WLS environment.
2) During WLS install, it'll ask for xelsysadm password. Will this password overrides to existing one in OIM DB? And later on when i'll try to login to OIM-WLS using this password, will that work?
<Abhi>: Yes, but are you planning to have different passwords. The xelsysadm password is stored in OIM database. So if you update it, it will reflect in all the OIM middle-tier instances attached to this database.
How about handling the encrypted values in WLS environment:
(1) IT resource params - reconfigure them after migration - through design console in Weblogic environment
<Abhi>: Yes. you may have to review the values in the IT resource params and the other atrifacts as RO, process forms etc. But most of the work will be done by the deployment manager export/import functionality.
(2) User password and security Q&A - We're using SSO to login to OIM, so not a concern
<Abhi>: You are good with this.
(3) UDF encrypted attribute - After doing the migration, if we run the user trusted recon 1 more time.. then all the user attrs values would be overriden (including encrytped UDF).
<Abhi>: If there is an encrypted UDF field, you will have to take care of this manually. BTW, is this field encrypted on the OIM side as well as the application side.
(4) Encrypted object/process forms - i've pending task to analyze if we've any such attrs(process form encrypted 'password' to target(e.g. AD) - i could think of such cases)
<Abhi>: If there is something like this, you will have to take care of this manually. Check the possibility of writing a custom code to go thru the OIM users and dump the decrypted data in some file. Later you can update the selective user data in the new environment
Did you follow the similar process? What issues did you face because of the IBM to SUN JDK use?
<Abhi>: Yes, I followed the same steps and did not faced much issues. It was pretty straight-forward. Just make sure that the export/import using Deployment manager is successful.
Please let me know if you have more questions.

• Migration of Enterprise application (J2EE) from OAS 10G to WebLogic

Hi Group,
I am working on migrating Enterpirse application developed using Struts, Ejb2.0, JMS. Its been deployed on OAS 10G and Websphere, but I need to deploy the application on Weblogic 10.3. Please can you list me the steps that needs to be followed to migrate the application.
As per my understanding follwing things needsto be taken care of:-
1) Weblogic Descriptor files:
1.1 Weblogic.xml:- we added security roles and ejb-reference-description for the ejbs.
1.2 Weblogic-ejb-jar.xml for all the ejbs used in the application.
1.3 Weblogic-application.xml
1.4 Resource Adapter
2) JMS queue set up
3) JDBC set up
It would be a great help if you can let me know what are the steps to migrate the application.
Thanks and Regards
Deepak Dani

I suppose this paper is Oracle internal only at the moment.
If you have the option, try JDev 11g and setup all the JDBC and JMS stuff in it.

From the above exceptions i can infer that, the database connection failed due to unresolved datasource name.
However we have configured all the Datasources, application seems to be having problem in wls 10.3.
Waiting in anticipation for replies.
Regards
Avinash

Hi Avinash,
It seems that the application is not able to get the DataSource JNDI name which you have given that the reason you are getting the NameNotFoundException exception.
Try to give the same JNDI name in the datasource which your application is trying to lookup, once you have created the datasource make sure you test the connection using Test Connection option by which you can be sure that if the test connection can get a connection from the DB everything is fine also check the JNDI tree if you can see the datasource JNDI name in there.
Hope this helps you.

• Migration from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3

Hello,
I migrate large app from OAS 10g to Weblogic 10.3.
1.
The main part of the job was to prepare descriptors for Weblogic. Unfortunatelly I don't find any tool that could do the job:( There are some problems with descriptors namespaces. This schema and namespaces given in 10.3 docs are not working (not available):
http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs103/ejb/DD_defs_reference.html
So I use the one from 10 release in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml:
weblogic-ejb-jar xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/10.0/weblogic-ejb-jar.xsd">
and form 9 release in weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml:
<weblogic-rdbms-jar xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90/weblogic-rdbms20-persistence.xsd">
There are also some bugs in docs about ejb relations.
After fixing some schema compliance exc this step success.
2. Next the EJBComplianceChecker - its much more restrictive than OAS verification. So updates in ejb interfaces are necessary. It is not a problem with small app but when there ale a lot of code/branches to migrate it's become a problem. I have been looking for some switch that could help with this but with no result/
EJBComplianceChecker - Spec veryfication level
3. Now after EJB compliance checker done its job with success I have an exception that I do not understand:
An error occurred during activation of changes, please see the log for details.

1.1 Weblogic.xml:- we added security roles and ejb-reference-description for the ejbs.
1.2 Weblogic-ejb-jar.xml for all the ejbs used in the application.
1.3 Weblogic-application.xml
1.4 Resource Adapter
2) JMS queue set up
3) JDBC set up
It would be a great help if you can let me know what are the steps to migrate the application.
Thanks and Regards

• How to deploy a secured ADF 11g application to WebLogic 10.3 server?

Hi,
I have just enabled security in our ADF 11g application, as descripbed in [chapter 29|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/web.1111/b31974/adding_security.htm#insertedID0] of the Fusion Developer's Guide. It works fine in the embedded WebLogic server of JDeveloper.
Now I'm trying to deploy to our WebLogic 10.3 server, which runs in production mode. I'm running into all sorts of problems. The WebLogic console seems to have hundreds of security related pages, I don't know which one I should use, let alone how to use it. The Fusion Developer's Guide doesn't cover deployment to a production server:
>
When the target server is configured for production mode, you typically handle the migration task outside of JDeveloper using tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager. For details about using tools outside of JDeveloper to migrate the policy store to the domain-level in a production environment, see the [Oracle Fusion Middleware Security Guide|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/core.1111/e10043/toc.htm].
>
However, this guide is of very little help to me. I found [chapter 7|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/core.1111/e10043/addlsecfea.htm#insertedID0], which says "The recommended tool is Fusion Middleware Control." I have no idea what "Fusion Middleware Control" is, where to get it and how to use it.
Long story short: I'm totally lost. I'm looking for a step by step guide on how to deploy a secured ADF 11g application to a WegLogic 10.3 server that is running in production mode. Any help is highly appreciated.

Ok, I found a [very helpful blog post |http://andrejusb.blogspot.com/2009/01/practical-adf-security-deployment-on.html] by [Andrejus Baranovski|http://www.blogger.com/profile/04468230464412457426]. I wish Oracle's documentation was as clear as this...
The blog post refers to an article by Steve Muench, called [Simplified ADF 11g Application Credential and Policy Migration to Standalone WebLogic Servers|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/muench/credmig111100/index.html]. This article presents an Ant script that migrates policies from JDeveloper to WebLogic, using some PFM. (See the last definition here.)
The problem is that Steve Muench's script assumes that JDeveloper and the standalone WebLogic are on the same machine. However, in a typical environment, such as the one I'm working in currently, this is not the case. In our case the developer stations are Windows machines, while our WebLogic server runs on a HP-UX machine. So the question is: how to perform this migration between two machines with different operating systems?

Hi Pratik,
Would suggest you to create a "*wlfullclient.jar*" by going through the below link and add it in your weblogic workshop and then try to deploy your application. Also it is always recommended that you should compile the old application again with the new JDK version your new weblogic sever is using.

Dear Marcos,
I have tried using ojdbc5, ojdbc6 and classess12 but with the same result. I am stuck with the problem. I have googled a lot but in vein. In some posts I got the idea to use weblogic.jdbc.vendor.oracle.OracleThinClob. But there is no package or class like mentioned in bold, available in weblogic.jar that I get from WEBLOGIC_HOEM/lib. I have downloaded weblogic 10.3 two times but still got no solution. weblogic.jar does not contain weblogic.jdbc.vendor.oracle.OracleThinClob.
I have also read about using weblogic.jdbc.common.OracleClob to write unicode data but I do not find this package within the weblogic.jar
Any idea please......

• How to migrate .war archived webservice to WebLogic 10.0.3

Hi everyone.
I have been requested to deploy a War file as Webservice on Weblogic Server 10.0.3 (installed on Redhat EL 5.0, I used Sun jdk 1.0.6 distributed along with installer bin file). This file
was run well on TOMCAT 5.0.28 server.When hacking into this WAR file I know it use Xfire(1.2.2) as a base to construct Webservice, hibernate(3.0) to mapping with database (it use only a
services.xml putting on META_INF to describe service as far as I know). Firstly, I use Adminstration Console, go to deployment link and deploy as this tool say, the result in Adminstration
Console tell me I had deployed succedfully but when I digged into exploded directory of WAR file, I can not see any .class file under WEB_INF directory and my client actually can not access provided services. I thought there is problem when use Application Console to deploy so I switch to use other tool like wlst or ant task but result is the same. Finally, I had to upload WAR file, use jar to extract WAR file to a directory and use Adminstration Console to deploy the whole directory as a Web Application. All class file are under WEB_INF directory. But when I use a client to access services I got exception as below on WebBrowser
Could not invoke service.. Nested exception is org.codehaus.xfire.fault.XFireFault: Fault: java.lang.NullPointerException
and no more detail (or I do not known where to get log file). Because I am just a system maintainer and do not know much a bout J2EE Webservice specification, I just read some materials
and know that WebLogic support Web Services 2.1 (JAX-WS) and XML-Based RPC 1.1 (JAX-RPC). So I desire to know some thing below:
1) What kind of Webservice in WAR file do I have (Web Services 2.1 (JAX-WS) and XML-Based RPC 1.1 (JAX-RPC) or something WebLogic do not support?
2) How to migrate my WAR file to Weblogic by a very common way?
3) How to get log to make more detail about exception above on WebLogic (does log4j archive this work?) ?
Thank you so much

Hi all,
May be I found the problem. The compatibility between Weblogic and hibernate 3.0 relating to antlr-2.7.5H3.jar library. Although I include all application's jar file in CLASSPATH when start server
but Weblogic seem not to see my antlr-2.7.5H3.jar and use its default antlr library instead. So I set my antlr-2.7.5H3.jar directly into PRE_CLASSPATH variable on $DOMAIN_HOME/lib/setDomainEnv.sh
file like below:
PRE_CLASSPATH="$DOMAIN_HOME/lib/antlr-2.7.5H3.jar"
export PRE_CLASSPATH
By now my application use the desired lib and Webservice work fine.
But I wonder if this is a good solution, is there any other good practice to set CLASSPATH for this situation? setting PRE_CLASSPATH is correct point and having no affection to the whole domain
in the case there are more application reside in the domain?
Thank all.

IBM Websphere Vs Oracle's Weblogic server
Can ODI run on IBM Websphere?
How feasible is it to shift ODI from Oracle Web logic to IBM Websphere?
What challenges , efforts required in ODI code to do so?
Please suggest.
Thanks in Advance.
Regards,
Dinesh.

1. Well for your 1st question I believe you can.
2. I believe it will go fine because you just need one application server to deploy your ee agent.
3. I have never tried IBM websphere as an application sewrver in ODI but it shouldnt be that much completed as you are thinking. Better you do R&D in your local system. Also I am not sure about the issues you will face in future. ( for ex maple PermGen errors, issues in clustering etc)
Thanks

• Migrating EPMA Planning application: Failed to sync with user provisioning

Hi All,
We are migrating applications from Production to Dev. We have one EPMA Planning and one Essbase application in both environments.
We have migrated artifacts into File system in PROD(Shared services, EPMA, Planning, Essbase and Reporting). We have copied and pasted in import_export folder in DEV.

• Migrate a webservice built in WebLogic Server 8.1 to Oracle WLS 10.3

Hi
I have built a webservice in a application server BEA WebLogic Server 8.1 SP6
Now I want to migrate it to a application server Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3
My problem is the webservice uses a file build.xml that contains some commands that are deprecated in version 10.3
These deprecated commands include in the file build.xml are :
<target name="generate-autotype">
<*autotype* wsdl="${CLIENT_BUILDER_RESOURCES}/${webservice}.wsdl"
targetNamespace="http://webservices/${modulo}/${webservice}.wsdl"
packageName="webservices.${modulo}"
destDir="${CLIENT_BUILDER_OUTPUT_DIR}"
keepGenerated="false"/>
<move file="${CLIENT_BUILDER_OUTPUT_DIR}/types.xml" todir="${CLIENT_BUILDER_BUILD_DIR}"/>
</target>
<*source2wsdd* javaSource="${SICAS_SRC}/webservices/${modulo}/${clase}.java"
sourcePath="${CLIENT_BUILDER_OUTPUT_DIR}"
typesInfo="${CLIENT_BUILDER_BUILD_DIR}/types.xml"
ddFile="${CLIENT_BUILDER_BUILD_DIR}/web-services.xml"
mergeWithExistingWS="true"
serviceURI="/${webservice}"
targetNamespace="http://webservices/${modulo}/${webservice}.wsdl"
classpathref="source2wsdd.class.path"/>
</target>
<target name="generate-ear">
<*wspackage* output="${CLIENT_BUILDER_BUILD_DIR}/sicasws.ear"
codecDir="${CLIENT_BUILDER_OUTPUT_DIR}"
webAppClasses="webservices.${modulo}/${webservice}"
overwrite="false"
ddFile="${CLIENT_BUILDER_BUILD_DIR}/web-services.xml"
warName="sicasws.war"/>
</target>
I need to compile my webservice in Oracle WebLogic 10.3
Before compile it, I must change the file build.xml of the webservice
Can anybody tell me how can migrate this webservice to Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3?
Thanks a lot
Josep Maria

Hi Josep,
WLS8.1 webservice needs to have all the WebService annotations when we migrate it to WLS9.x onwards.
Here is a Simplest way which can be used....As you already have the WSDL generated from your WLS8.1 WebService ....So Use WSDLC Task to genarate the Annotated WebService from it ...and then Copy and paste the Method Implementations from your OLD Service to the Newly Generated Service....
How to do it?
Answer: Here is have developed a Step by Step procedure to do it...Please have a look...
