Miles or km in Maps

Since the 2.2 update maps now shows the distance in Kilometers and not Miles is there a way to change it back to Miles?
Thanks

Apple clearly think that because we in Great Britain are near Europe we use exclusively European units and this is not the case. It is illegal in Great Britain to express distances in kilometres on public signs which are required by statute to be in Imperial units, viz, yards and miles. We all think and talk in Miles. This is an error founded on ignorance which should be corrected by the simple expedient of giving an option of expressing distances in Miles or kilometres. Can we check these things another time?

  • The location of my hometown (Hysham, Montana) is off by over 50 miles ever since Apple Maps came out.  I have been reporting off and on ever since but it has never corrected.  What do I need to do to get this fixed?!

The location of Hysham in Apple Maps is off by over 50 miles and has been ever since the advent of the app.  I have gone through the motions many times to place the pin the correct location.  Unfortunately, no one at Apple seems to care if Hysham, Montana is plotted in the correct location or not.  The location displayed in Apple Maps is quite literally in the middle of nowhere.  If someone were to rely on Apple Maps to get to Hysham may very well end up marooned in the midst of muddy two track road in the summer or stuck in a snowdrift in the winter with little or no hope of expedient assistance.  Other than the reporting feature in Maps, there appears to be no other means to report mistakes and there appears to be no expedient means at Apple to filter through reports and fix the errors.  In sum, What do I have to do to get the location of Hysham fixed in Apple Maps?  Much thanks!

You have done all that you can. Apple maps depends on 3rd party map data solutions. As problems are reported, they are reported to the data providers. How and when they decide to make changes is up to them.
You can also let Apple know you are disappointed in this via feedback at www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.

    Hello,
how I can switch miles to kilometers in rout calculation?

  • PDF Optimizer Causes Disappearing Lines in Maps

I often have to optimize PDF maps created in ESRI ArcGIS to reduce the file size. This works great most of the time but some PDFs have lines that disappear every time I optimize, regardless of the settings.
    Some notes:
    - The same line will disappear even when all of the optimize options are turned off (i.e. it should be doing nothing to the document).
    - The layer that contains the line still shows up in the layer tab, but turning it on or off has no effect
    - Printing to PDF works fine, the line does NOT disappear (though the file size reduction isn't as great)
    - The line that usually disappears is ~425 miles long, though the map only covers a few miles of it
    - This happens on multiple computers, running the latest version of Acrobat Pro 9 on Windows XP.
    - This also happens on the same map regardless of which computer exports the map to PDF in the first place (even using different versions of PDF)
    - I can replicate the effect by manually deleting the tags from the document. As soon as I delete the tag, the line disappears (though the layer remains)
This has been a very frustrating problem and I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. I have scoured the internet for similar problems, but could not find anything useful.

  • Using maps in Serbia

When i had nokia n95, i had map of serbia, which was detailed, with main roads, streets in big cities etc. That was on Nokia maps 1.0 .
Now i bought Nokia E71, but there is very poor map of Serbia, on Nokia Maps 2.0 .
So, my question is, can i install first nokia 1.0 on E-71 and put the old maps which were better, and than to upgrade to nokia maps 2.0 ? Will nokia maps 1.0 work on e-71?
    THX.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Typical Nokia. I noticed that, my N95 has good Maps of Serbia, my X6 has one road for Serbia ?? I think someone is lacking progress, 1 step forward 2 steps back. even my Maps of the UK are incorrect, same as for Zurich, not to mention it can be very iffy on where you actually are, you have to wait for to be sure you are actually where it says you are as it can jitter over about a mile. Also sat maps do not work!
whoever is in charge of Maps for Nokia need to go get some work experience with Apple for a while to learn how it is done! actually, the whole of Nokia management need some work experience as things are going worse and worse on every phone release.

  • HT5429 Why is Apple Maps "List Results" unclickable?

At first i thought this was only a problem with my phone (iPhone 4), however the Apple screenshot in their "Using Maps in iOS6" article shows the same unclickable "List Results" button.
Why would this feature be included but unclickable for everybody? I can find no information on the subject online anywhere. It also makes no sense why the fact that it is unclickable would not be mentioned anywhere on the Apple site.

Same thing but different here in Montana. I tap on my address in Contacts and am taken to someplace about 200 miles away on the map. The street there is not even the same name as my street. I tried tapping a location and dropping a pin to use for my location and using that as my Home. Apple Maps comes up with an address for the dropped pin but when I tap that address in Contacts I shown a location about 5 miles away instead of where I live. Because of these map problems I cannot use Siri to provide location based services related to my Home.
I have reported the problem but so far there has been no fix.

  • Google maps distance prefs

So it seems that with iPhone OS 3.0.1 the old trick of indicating your preference for miles or kilometers within Maps by changing Settings->General->International->Region Format no longer works. I'm in the U.S. but want Maps to show distances in kilometers (not miles) since that's what the odometer in my car is set to. Now it appears that the distance units are automatically chosen based on either your current location or the country where the driving directions are requested.
Does anyone have a fix for this and why can't there just be a units preference for Maps within the Settings application?
Feature request for OS 3.0.2: add a button for Maps within the Settings app. so that units can be chosen.

    I came across this link.

  • Screen brightness problem iphone 5 ios 6.1.4

The screen will quasi-randomly go to low brightness and be barely readable - auto-dim or not.  I can't usually tell what triggered it - it's just not obvious.
However, I found a repeatable pattern (finally) when using it in a car.  If I plug in the usb in a car (say a ford), and use both google maps and play tunes or podcasts simultaneously, the brightness is guaranteed to dim after approximately 20 minutes, on its own, without intervention.  The auto-brightness switch has no apparent effect on this.
This is, of course, the most annoying defect, because you're using google maps to watch where the f*@k you're going, and then the lights go out and you're fumbling around with brightness while driving.
    Anybody else observe this problem?

It's a google maps app setting. I agree, it is highly annoying and I have no idea why they put that setting into the app without the option to change it. I did a 600 mile trip with google maps and the auto screen dimming feature was awful.

  • How to calibrate after a workout??

    Hi!
I have a 3g nano and recently had to replace the sensor . I was reading through the manual that was provided with it and noticed that you can "calibrate using your latest completed workout". So I went on a run (2.70 miles according to nike+) , mapped it out on google maps (3.04 miles), ended my run and looked for a calibrate option (as the manual states). However there was no option except on the main menu page which has the normal calibration method of walking or running a specified distance.
I've tried calibrating the old way by running on a track which threw my sensor way off and this way of "calibrating using your latest workout" option seems to provide hope to fixing my problem of inaccurate readings!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Unfortunately, that option is only for 4th generation nano(it doesn't make that qualifier in the printed manual but it does here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1616). I would try to find a route of known distance that isn't on a track, where you will run most like you usually do. The maximum it seems to allow is 1.25 miles, I would try to do that for the best results.
    good luck and fun running

  • How do you change the distance units in the new Maps application on Mavericks from KM to miles?

How do you change the distance units in the new Maps application on Mavericks from KM to miles?

The scale in Maps follows your regional settings in System Preferences > Language & Region > Region.
Selecting United States, for example, will use English units (feet and statute miles).
There may be other methods I'm unaware of.

  • Map functionality in interactive planning using PC MILER instead of IGS

    Dear Experts,
We would like to utilize the map functionality in TPVS interactive planning, We have implemented PC MILER for Geo coding instead of IGS and GIS tools.
The PC MILER is using the customized solution for calculating of  the distances of Geo co-ordinates using the defined precession level. However we would like to utilize MAP functionality in interactive planning through PCMILER. Just FYI PC miler is connected through http connection (RFC connection type G -http) unlike the RFC connection for IGS and GIS.
I have configured all the relevant settings that are  required for using the MAP functionality in interactive planning. However the  VS optimizer is giving the error message as "no map available ". I also did a test run using the standard map test program, I got a short dump. But the PC MILER connection and other setting seems to correct.
Please advice if anyone came across similar integration issues, or have any insights on this issue?
    Thank you,
    Ramesh.

  • Change Maps from KM to Miles

How can I change the maps application (default application) back to miles. For some reason it is displaying in kilometers...

I just noticed last night that after updating my iPhone 3G to the latest software (2.1) mine was mapping directions out in km. I thought that maybe at the time I was picking up a Canadian tower since I was close, but that wasn't the case. I tried it out again this morning and noticed the same thing. This is what I did to fix mine:
Changed the International settings from United States to United Kingdom, clicked back to the main screen, then went back in and changed it back to United States. I powered the phone off, then back on, walla... worked like a charm. Hopefully it works for you. I find that sometimes making changes like that will "force" a refresh on certain settings.
