Miles to kilometers in Map

Hello,
how I can switch miles to kilometers in rout calculation?

System Preferences:
thunderzzz's suggestion is better, as it is not global.

    How do I change the settings in Maps from miles to kilometers?

    I've had an entirely different experience with Map units.  Maps on my iPad (iOS 8) will only deliver units in kilometers, no matter how I adjust the settings for Maps or Region/Language.  I am trying to calculate distances between two locations in the United States where all road distances are measured in miles.  My iPad region is set to United States.  When I open the settings for Maps, change the units from kilometers to miles, and close the window, IOS-8 changes the setting back to kilometers every time.
    Slick interfaces and device designs aside, at times these little annoying bugs just make the folks at Apple look like rank amateurs.

  • Miles to Kilometers

    What am I doing wrong
    import java.util.Scanner;
    public class MilesToKm{
    public static void main(String[] args){
    float miles, conversion;
    Scanner scan;
    scan = new Scanner (System.in);
    System.out.println("Please enter number of miles: ");
    miles = scan.nextFloat();
    conversion = miles * 1.609;
    System.out.println("The number of miles in kilometers is: " + conversion +".");
    im getting
    MilesToKm.java:13: possible loss of precision
    found : double
    required: float
    conversion = miles * 1.609;
    ^
    1 error
    ----jGRASP wedge: exit code for process is 1.
    ----jGRASP: operation complete.

    Any floating point literal--e.g. 1.609--is of type double.
    Any calculation that contains a double yields a double result.
    So it's as if you did this:
    double d = 1.234;
    float f = d;You can't stuff a double into a float. If you want to do that assignment, you need to cast:
    float f = (float)d;  // EDIT: Oops, was double in the cast, should've been float. Thanks warnerja.However, you're better off just using double throughout. There's no reason to use float at all.

  • Miles vs Kilometers on voice update

    Cant get my ipod to advise miles vs kilometers during the distance updates during my run. Have the nano set for miles is there a way to fix this?

    Hey 1025KSP,
    If you are using a specific distance workout (ie 3k 5k 10k), the iPod will only give you your distance in km.
    If you are not then go to the Nike+ settings menu and change the distance setting to miles.
    Hope this helps,

  • Miles or km in Maps

    Since the 2.2 update maps now shows the distance in Kilometers and not Miles is there a way to change it back to Miles?
    Thanks

    Apple clearly think that because we in Great Britain are near Europe we use exclusively European units and this is not the case. It is illegal in Great Britain to express distances in kilometres on public signs which are required by statute to be in Imperial units, viz, yards and miles. We all think and talk in Miles. This is an error founded on ignorance which should be corrected by the simple expedient of giving an option of expressing distances in Miles or kilometres. Can we check these things another time?

  • The location of my hometown (Hysham, Montana) is off by over 50 miles ever since Apple Maps came out.  I have been reporting off and on ever since but it has never corrected.  What do I need to do to get this fixed?!

    The location of Hysham in Apple Maps is off by over 50 miles and has been ever since the advent of the app.  I have gone through the motions many times to place the pin the correct location.  Unfortunately, no one at Apple seems to care if Hysham, Montana is plotted in the correct location or not.  The location displayed in Apple Maps is quite literally in the middle of nowhere.  If someone were to rely on Apple Maps to get to Hysham may very well end up marooned in the midst of muddy two track road in the summer or stuck in a snowdrift in the winter with little or no hope of expedient assistance.  Other than the reporting feature in Maps, there appears to be no other means to report mistakes and there appears to be no expedient means at Apple to filter through reports and fix the errors.  In sum, What do I have to do to get the location of Hysham fixed in Apple Maps?  Much thanks!

    You have done all that you can. Apple maps depends on 3rd party map data solutions. As problems are reported, they are reported to the data providers. How and when they decide to make changes is up to them.
    You can also let Apple know you are disappointed in this via feedback at www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.

  • Miles, not kilometers?

    When I set my iPod nano & Nike+ to display in miles, why does the display and the resulting workout data reflect as kilometers? How do I correctly set my iPod Nano & Nike + to display miles only? Thanks to one and all.

    Im sure you did a restart with the issue happening again. The next thing to try is a partial erase. If that does not resolve the issue you could try the webOS doctor on your phone. That should correct any code crossing that may have happened.

  • Miles vs. kilometers

    After 3 years of solid performance, suddenly my nano/nikeplus will only measure in kilometers. I keep changing the settings to record in miles (and the display on screen says it is measuring in miles), but the spoken feedback and the display during a run is in kilometers. When I upload my workout to the Nike Plus website, however, it converts to miles. Any thoughts?

    Have you tried restoring the iPod in iTunes? If it's a software issue on the iPod, this will often fix it.

  • Google maps distance prefs

    So it seems that with iPhone OS 3.0.1 the old trick of indicating your preference for miles or kilometers within Maps by changing Settings->General->International->Region Format no longer works. I'm in the U.S. but want Maps to show distances in kilometers (not miles) since that's what the odometer in my car is set to. Now it appears that the distance units are automatically chosen based on either your current location or the country where the driving directions are requested.
    Does anyone have a fix for this and why can't there just be a units preference for Maps within the Settings application?
    Feature request for OS 3.0.2: add a button for Maps within the Settings app. so that units can be chosen.

    I came across this link.

  • How do I convert the MAP app from meters to miles?

    In MAPS, how do I convert from meters to miles?

    Hi willardfromaustin,
    If you are having issues with the distance scale in Maps, you may find the following article helpful:
    Tip: The scale guide in Maps uses the regional measurement preferences (miles or kilometers) you set in the Advanced section of the Language & Region settings in System Preferences.

  • G-Map West problems

    I just downloaded version 1.31 with the voice guidance for my 3GS. This is my first use of this app. So I started up the program and searched for my location, which it found, but it appears to be permanently stuck there. Plugged in a route and drove around and it still has me sitting in my driveway. Does not even give a voice command to start the process.
    If I run the route simulator from any location on the route, it starts from that location and you hear the voice guidance. So it appears that it knows where I am, but doesn't want to function in live mode.
    The Apple compass program on the other hand has me driving around.
    Another issue seems to be no settings screen in the route options menu as is described in the pdf manual. This would be where you set miles or kilometers, screen color, whether to show POI on the map etc.
    It sure looks like it could be useful item once I can get to work.
    I noticed in the reviews for this that people were complaining about not being able to use ipod function while the map program was running. I was able to run both, but could only hear the ipod, while running the simulator.
    Anybody have any of these issues with this app and maybe know how to resolve it?

    Well I have to revisit this problem again. It got stuck on the last location that it was able to find and over the last few days it just stays there. This after asking if it can use my current location. Answered both yes and no and it does not effect a change. Pressing the search button changes nothing and resetting the phone just places my location in Cupertino CA, which I assume is the default location for the app.
    Apple compass works OK.
    Anybody have any ideas other than trying to get hold of the developer whose command of the English language is limited and difficult to understand?

  • New iPad Mini 2 - Settings - Maps

    I've noticed that when I am in the Settings section, and then in the Maps section - it gives me the options of displaying distance in Miles or Kilometers. Miles seems like the default setting, but when I click Kilometers, the check mark moves to Kilometers, but when I close out (going to another section of Settings or back to the Home screen, for example) and go back to Settings, Maps - the distance is back to Miles. It won't stay at Kilometers no matter how many times I select it, whether I reset the iPad or anything.
    It may seem silly, but Kilometers is the measurement I want to use, it's the measurement used in my country (Japan), and there's no reason I can think that this problem should be happening. Any ideas aside from calling AppleCare Support - and not sure what they would suggest.

    I Think user I'd is problem if you send user I'd to sign in to my iPad mape at working better

  • New iPad Mini 2 - Settings - Maps - Distance - KM, not MI

    In Settings, Maps - I want to change the distance displayed from miles to kilometers. But after tapping kilometers, verifying the check mark on kilometers and then closing out of Settings - when I go back into Settings, Maps - the distance selected in back to miles. So it seems kilometers won't stay saved.
    Has anyone experienced this or know of a fix? I'm a bit dumbfounded.

  • PDF Optimizer Causes Disappearing Lines in Maps

    I often have to optimize PDF maps created in ESRI ArcGIS to reduce the file size. This works great most of the time but some PDFs have lines that disappear every time I optimize, regardless of the settings.
    Some notes:
    - The same line will disappear even when all of the optimize options are turned off (i.e. it should be doing nothing to the document).
    - The layer that contains the line still shows up in the layer tab, but turning it on or off has no effect
    - Printing to PDF works fine, the line does NOT disappear (though the file size reduction isn't as great)
    - The line that usually disappears is ~425 miles long, though the map only covers a few miles of it
    - This happens on multiple computers, running the latest version of Acrobat Pro 9 on Windows XP.
    - This also happens on the same map regardless of which computer exports the map to PDF in the first place (even using different versions of PDF)
    - I can replicate the effect by manually deleting the tags from the document. As soon as I delete the tag, the line disappears (though the layer remains)
    This has been a very frustrating problem and I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. I have scoured the internet for similar problems, but could not find anything useful.

  • Using maps in Serbia

    When i had nokia n95, i had map of serbia, which was detailed, with main roads, streets in big cities etc. That was on Nokia maps 1.0 .
    Now i bought Nokia E71, but there is very poor map of Serbia, on Nokia Maps 2.0 .
    So, my question is, can i install first nokia 1.0 on E-71 and put the old maps which were better, and than to upgrade to nokia maps 2.0 ? Will nokia maps 1.0 work on e-71?
    THX.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Typical Nokia. I noticed that, my N95 has good Maps of Serbia, my X6 has one road for Serbia ?? I think someone is lacking progress, 1 step forward 2 steps back. even my Maps of the UK are incorrect, same as for Zurich, not to mention it can be very iffy on where you actually are, you have to wait for to be sure you are actually where it says you are as it can jitter over about a mile. Also sat maps do not work!
    whoever is in charge of Maps for Nokia need to go get some work experience with Apple for a while to learn how it is done! actually, the whole of Nokia management need some work experience as things are going worse and worse on every phone release.
