Mime-types icons in java code

Hi all,
I use a custom developed iView for viewing a list of KM documents.
I now need to add an icon next to each document according to its mime-type.
I want to use the table in System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Utilities -> Icons.
Since I couldn't find a way to access it, I "copied" it to my code:
private String getIconPath(IResource r){
     String filename = "unknown.gif";
     try{
          String mimeType = r.getContent().getContentType();
          if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("application/msword")){
               filename = "document.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("application/pdf")){
               filename = "pdf.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("application/vnd.ms-excel")){
               filename = "spreadsheet.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("application/vnd.ms-powerpoint")){
               filename = "presentation.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("application/vnd.visio")){
               filename = "vectorgraphics.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("application/vnd.wcm-folder")){
               filename = "standard_folder.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("application/vnd.wcm-weblink")){
               filename = "html_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("audio/basic")){
               filename = "audio.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("audio/midi")){
               filename = "audio.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("audio/mpeg")){
               filename = "audio.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("audio/x_mpeg")){
               filename = "audio.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("image/")){
               filename = "image.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.application/msword")){
               filename = "document_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.application/octet-stream")){
               filename = "unknown_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.application/pdf")){
               filename = "pdf_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.application/vnd.ms-excel")){
               filename = "spreadsheet_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.application/vnd.ms-powerpoint")){
               filename = "presentation_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.application/vnd.visio")){
                         filename = "vectorgraphics_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.application/vnd.wcm-folder")){
               filename = "standard_folder_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.audio/basic")){
               filename = "audio_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.audio/midi")){
               filename = "audio_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.audio/mpeg")){
               filename = "audio_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.audio/x_mpeg")){
               filename = "audio_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.default")){
               filename = "unknown_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.image/")){
               filename = "image_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.text/html")){
               filename = "html_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.text/plain")){
               filename = "plaintext_link.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("link.text/xml")){
               filename = "xml_link.gif";

          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("text/html")){
               filename = "html.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("text/plain")){
               filename = "plaintext.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("text/xml")){
               filename = "xml.gif";
          else if (mimeType.equalsIgnoreCase("video/vdo")){
               filename = "video.gif";
     } catch (Exception e){
          e.printStackTrace();
     try {
          IURLGeneratorService urlgen = (IURLGeneratorService)ResourceFactory.getInstance().getServiceFactory().getService(IServiceTypesConst.URLGENERATOR_SERVICE);
          return urlgen.getImageUri(filename).toString();
     } catch (Exception e) {
          e.printStackTrace();
          return "";
Is there a way to access that table and avoid this (ugly) duplication?
Thanks ahead,
Yoav.

Hi,
try using the mimeHandler service for getting the SRC of image for a resource in KM:
IMimeHandlerService mh = (IMimeHandlerService)
  ResourceFactory.
  getInstance().
  getServiceFactory().
  getService("MimeHandlerService");
String imagePath = mh.get(res).getImagePath();
where 'res' is IResource object of the resource in KM.
Hope this helps.

  • Libreoffice mime-type icons

    Hi,
    i'm curious to know if i'm the only that have ugly mime-type icons for LibreOffice files (.odt .doc .ods ...)
    Before
    I like to see the original LibreOffice mime-type icons, so after a lot of research on the web i've found the solution.
    Following this http://standards.freedesktop.org/shared … atest.html
    The applications mime-type action are stored under /usr/share/mime/packages.
    Here you can find /usr/share/mime/packages/libreoffice.xml the LibreOffice mime-type file and if you open it you'll find something like that:
    <mime-type type="application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text">
    <comment>OpenDocument Text</comment>
    <glob pattern="*.odt"/>
    <magic>
    <match type="string" offset="38" value="application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text"/>
    </magic>
    </mime-type>
    In order to see the original icon in Nautilus / Dolphin you simply have to add a line of code that call the proper mime-type icon for example:
    <icon name="libreoffice-oasis-text"/>
    You have to do this for every mime-type type.
    The follow example is for "OpenDocument Text"
    <mime-type type="application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text">
    <comment>OpenDocument Text</comment>
    <glob pattern="*.odt"/>
    <icon name="libreoffice-oasis-text"/>
    <magic>
    <match type="string" offset="38" value="application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text"/>
    </magic>
    </mime-type>
    And after this work you can see something like this in Nautilus / Dolphin
    After
    If someone if interested i can post the updated libreoffice.xml file.
    mod edit: Hello gspe, please read Forum Etiquette: Pasting Pictures and Code. Thanks. --fsckd

    After a bit more research i've found the correct solution for the problem.
    The problem actually is that the libreoffice mime-type icons follow a wrong naming.
    For example if you go in /usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/mimetypes
    libreoffice-oasis-text.png
    shoud be
    application-vnd.oasis.opendocument.text.png
    And so on for all entry in /usr/share/mime/packages/libreoffice.xml

  • Image size and mime type.. non-java guy needs help

    Image size, mime type.. non-java guy needs help
    Im not at all familiar with java so this is really weird for me to work out. I?ve been doing it all day (and half of yesterday).
    Im trying to write a custom clodFusion tag in java that gets the width, height, size and MIME types of a given file. I?ve been trying to get it to work on the command line first. I can get the width and height but cant get the size and the MIME type.
    Here is what I got
    /*import com.allaire.cfx.*;*/
    import java.awt.image.renderable.*;
    import javax.media.jai.*;
    import com.sun.media.jai.codec.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class ImageInfo {
    private RenderedOp image = null;
    private RenderedOp result = null;
    private int height = 0;
    private int width = 0;
    private String type = "";
    private String size = "";
    public void loadf(String file) throws IOException
    file = "80by80.jpg";
    FileSeekableStream fss = new FileSeekableStream(file);
    image = JAI.create("stream", fss);
    height = image.getHeight();
    width = image.getWidth();
    System.out.println(height + "\n");
    System.out.println(width);
    System.out.println(type);
    public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {
    ImageInfo test = new ImageInfo();
    test.loadf(args[0]);
    can anyone please help me out to modify the above so I can also print the mime type and the file size to screen.
    thanks for any help

    any suggestions?

  • How to add Java Web Start MIME type to Sun Java SYstem Application Server?

    Hi,
    In the process of learning about Java Web Start,
    I read in the document that I had to add "application/x-java-jnlp-file JNLP " to a configuration file.
    Does anyone know where that file is for Sun Application web server( vesion 8, on WIndows)?
    Thanks,
    Sun

    I believe you can add it to default-web.xml file located in your server config dir.
    (i.e. /opt/SunAppServer8/domains/domain1/config/default-web.xml)

  • JSP not executing the java code

    Hello there.
    my m/c: tru64 unix
    Apache version: 2.0
    tomcat version: 4.0.5
    browser version: IE5
    I have index.jsp as
    =======
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <TITLE> Vimala's JSP </TITLE>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    Hello <%= request.getParameter ("name") %>
    <%
    for (int i=1; i < 5; i++)
    out.print ("<BR> Sample JSP loop");
    %>
    <FORM METHOD=POST ACTION="vimala.jsp">
    Enter nothing
    <INPUT TYPE=TEXTAREA NAME=name>
    <BR><BR><INPUT TYPE=SUBMIT>
    </FORM>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    =======
    The above neither prints the getParameter ("name") as passed in URL nor it prints the "for loop" values.
    However the html related things such as title and Form are properly displayed in the browser.
    I think I'm missing something in the tomcat (server.xml) or apache (httpd.conf) configurations. Your inputs to solve my problem is very much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Vimala.

    Please find the web.xml here.

  • Item Type Icon

    I added an icon to my URL "Item Type Properties". But, I don't see the icon on any URL items. I added every attribute to the "Displayed Attributes" for the region, and I still don't see any item type icons. The "Available Attributes" in "Edit Region" doesn't list anything like "Item Icon" anyway.
    Oracle Portal Version: 10.1.2.0.2
    How can I show the item icon? Or, what is it used for?
    Thanks.

    Hi Brian,
    You're talking about a mime type icon, and those are shown for a File Item. Those work fine. I'm talking about the Icon associated with the Item Type, where you specify the Icon in the "Item Type Properties" when you edit the Item Type.
    For example, I made an "External URL" Item type:
    Base Item Type: Base URL
    Name: EXTERNALURL
    Display Name: External URL
    Description: <none>
    Icon: <this is where I added my icon, and it's displayed in the properties here...>
    Help URL For Add Item Wizard: <none>
    Help URL For Edit Item Wizard: <none>
    In this Edit Item Type area, there are also tabs for "Item Type Attributes" and "Procedures". I don't think those apply.
    When I make an External URL item, there's no icon.
    Again, the portal version I'm using is 10.1.2.0.2.

  • Where to apply java codes?

    Good Day:
    Perhaps this sound funny....I bought a Java book to learn the coding...pretty interesting...but after all, it didn't tell where can I type and test all those codes.
    After much reading, understand that it should be applied onto the JDK. Am I right? so I went to Java site and downloaded it. But nothing happened? I even borrow some other machine to install the JDK, still the same????
    When I check form control panel, the JDK and JRE successfully install. Pls help. After all, I need to start on where can i test my java codes?
    Many thanks for your reply.

    hellbinder, my apology...i guess you and everyone
    confuse with my question.
    Ok, see, what I need is to type in the code as per
    given in the book i bought. I understand that it got
    to be typing in the JDK in order to be able to test
    it out. So I download the JDK (including JRE & IDE)
    and had it install on my pc. Then now, I still could
    find the JDK (what I think/mean the "text editor"
    here) for me to type in the java codes.
    Or shall I re-phare in in suce, let's imagine, if
    given with a stack of words and fonts, we type in
    note pad may be. then now given with the Java codes,
    where shall i type it? JDK right? thus I installed
    JDK but I couldn't find or launch it to type in those
    Java codes?!
    Thanks!You don't "type in the java codes" in your JDK. You use a texteditor to "type in the java codes" and compile "the java codes" with the compiler from your JDK, and after that you run "the java (byte)codes" with the JRE from your JDK.
    Everything is explained step-by-step in the tutorial I posted earlier. Please take the time to follow those steps.

  • Java.lang.InstantiatiCould not read mime-mappings config file: ./mime.types

    I am about to had enough of this moronic container call OC4J that's compatible to to itself.
    I did a
    1. clean unzip and installation.
    2. setup admin account.
    3. config the autodeploy in server.xml (Who in their right phreakin mind design a container with no hot deploy nowaday).
    4. configure the data source.
    5. test data source using a webapp with one page jsp do a JSF jdbc connection.
    When try and deploy the error-free webapp (tested in tomcat) using both frontend and autodeploy,a cryptic error occur: could not read mime.types.
    I have never see this error before in my life. its in oracle.oc4j.admin.internal.ApplicationDeployer.addApplication
    This error happened after I configure my webapp to do phreakin orion-application.xml disable toplink, orion-webapp xml prefer local class file. If I don't get this resolve within couple days, I'll put my career on the line with full force and request we do not use OC4J anywhere in this group.
    A M$FT .NET project looks very promising and efficient compare this deployment hell they call OC4J

    Thank you Steve for your help. I really do appreciate ppl taking the time to answer questions from n00b like me.
    I tried and disable global.libraries and global.tag.libraries when deploy, and at one point the login page (its Spring 1.2.8 + hibernate 3.1.3 + Myface 1.1.4 + acegi 1.0.1 ) came out, but cannot login and without exceptions, so I was guessing acegi poblem. But the spring and hibernate is working, I can see the conn and other activities. And after a couple tries, cannot even get the login page display now in MyFace, with exceptions:
    include(java.lang.String) in javax.servlet.jsp.PageContext cannot be applied to (java.lang.String,boolean)
    And then after some googling found out there will be code change for this webapp as well.
    - change webapp.listener for double instantiation in OC4J (Code Change)
    - create new class OrionSessionListener implements HttpSessionListener for session invalidation (Code Change) NEW JAVA CLASS
    - acegi j_security_check URL reference change (Code Change, but minor)
    I think the container has great performance, but I just wish they can look more to the compatabilities/common practices issues

  • Need Java Coding to sent File in a Mail Attachment with MIME Type with SMTP

    Hi Experts,
      I need java code to sent a file in an email attachment with MIME type.
      Please provide me.
    TYhanks

    Hi Stefan,
      Thanks for your Blog.
    The same java mapping is been used in my current system, but the legacy system cannot read
    some emails as they are asking us to send the email in MIME format.
    Already i am sending in MIME format itself.
    They can read some Emails and they cannot ream some Emails.
    I think the problem could be their exchange server.
    Can you please suggest on this.

  • Caching MIME types in browser using a servlet (independent of the app-code)

    We are using jboss 3.2.6 app server to deploy an ear. To reduce the server round-trips and network latency, we created a servlet that caches various MIME types in the browser.
    package foo.bar.nw.cache;
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.naming.directory.DirContext;
    import javax.servlet.ServletException;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
    import org.apache.catalina.servlets.DefaultServlet;
    public class TomcatDefaultServlet extends DefaultServlet {
         protected void serveResource(HttpServletRequest request,
                   HttpServletResponse response, boolean content) throws IOException,
                   ServletException {
              super.serveResource(request, response, content);
              DirContext resources = getResources();
              String path = getRelativePath(request);
              ResourceInfo resourceInfo = new ResourceInfo(path, resources);
              String mimeType = getServletContext().getMimeType(resourceInfo.path);
              System.out.println("mime type = " + mimeType);
              if (mimeType != null
                        && (mimeType.equals("image/gif")
                                  || mimeType.equals("text/javascript")
                                  || mimeType.equals("image/jpeg") || mimeType
                                  .equals("text/css"))) {
                   response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "max-age=7200");
    }The above code set the max-age to 2 hours. We created a jar file for the above class and deployed it C:\sw\jboss-3.2.6\server\<server-config>\deploy\jbossweb-tomcat50.sar
    And also made the appropriate entry in the file C:\sw\jboss-3.2.6\server\<server-config>\deploy\jbossweb-tomcat50.sar\conf\web.xml.
    The problem is that sometimes the 'expires' attribute of all the files in Temporary Internet Files shows date-time and sometimes it shows 'None'.
    We tried using the code below but no luck.
    response.setHeader("Expires", "Mon,18 Jan 2038 16:00:00 GMT");
    Not sure on how to verify if they are getting cached on the browser (IE 6).
    Any help will be appreciated.

  • How to get the values from struct data type using java code..?

    Hi ,
    I am newer to java.
    we are using oracle database.
    How to get the data from struct data type using java code.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    kumar

    Hi Rajeev,
    To retrieve a FilterContainer you will need to traverse the report structure:
    ReportStructure boReportStructure = boDocumentInstance.getStructure();
    ReportContainer boReportContainer = (ReportContainer) boReportStructure.getReportElement(0);
    FilterContainer boFilterContainer = null;
    if (boReportContainer.hasFilter()) {
         boFilterContainer = boReportContainer.getFilter();
    } else {
         boFilterContainer = boReportContainer.createFilter(LogicalOperator.AND);
    Calling boDocumentInstance.getStructure() will retrieve the entire structure for the document.
    Calling boReportStructure.getReportElement(0) will retrieve the structure for the first report of the document.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Dan

  • Fresh Java install; browser doesn't recognize jnlp MIME type...

    Hi Folks,
    I was working with a client today to install a JWS app on a number of workstations. First one went fine. Just to be sure they had everything right, switched to another Windows PC. Browser displayed the jnlp file as XML. OK, I figured, must be missing the JRE. So, okay, we install the lastest 1.5 from www.java.com. Well, the browser still doesn't pick up on the MIME type setting and launch JWS--just displays the XML.
    And yes, the server is sending the right MIME information because it works on dozens of other PC's at dozens of other sites as well as on the first PC we tried at that location. So then I figure, well, we'll just tell Mozilla that it needs to associate the right application with the MIME type/extension in question--there's no where to add a new association (at least not that I can find).
    Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
    John

    Sorry for the inaccuracy there. We actually tried both Firefox and IE--same result on both of them.
    (The 1.5 version of JWS doesn't allow you to put in the URL there--a disappointing circumstance. The whole thing was clearly more complicated than it seemed to me at first--there were already 3 other JREs installed.)

  • Any code available to get mime-type for file?

    Hi,
    at this link http://www.utoronto.ca/ian/books/html4ed/appb/mimetype.html you can find a huge listing of content-types for files. What I'd like to know is, if there's any code available for getting the right mime-type for a given file-extension. E.g given a filename "Document.doc" returns mime-type "application/msword".
    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

    U can use the isMimeType() method to compare various types.
    Eg. isMimeType("text/plain") or isMimeType("multipart/*") etc.
