Mini dvd mac mini

I just bought a new camcorder that uses mini dvd's. I need to know if I can put these sized dvd's in my mini. I've never had this kind of camera before, so i'm not really sure how to import movies onto my mac for editing and to burn on a full sized dvd. Need help pronto

you can do it using an adapter ring, but if somehow something went wrong, Apple won't fix it under warranty, since they expressly forbid doing so.
your other options are to use an external tray-loading DVD drive, or a USB/Firewire cable (if your camera offers this option).

  • FileMaker Server problem on Mac Mini Server - Mac Mini won't boot

I just installed a brand new Mac Mini Server today, and also FileMaker Server 11. A first-timer for both Mac OS X Server and FileMaker Server, I made an error as explained below, and right now I don't know how to get back on track with the system. It won't boot.
    So, how did this happen?
At first everything was proceeding according to plan. I configured the pre-installed Mac OS X Server on the Mac Mini with users, groups and services. This was tested from clients and this seemed to work just fine. Then I installed and configured FileMaker Server. This was also tested from a client, and the example database that came with FMS was served up just fine.
The problem arose when I tried to install my existing FileMaker databases. I simply checked to see where in the file system the example database was located, and then copied my old databases to that location (I think it was Library > FileMaker Server > Data > Databases or something close to it - can't check it now...). I had the FileMaker Server Admin Console running, and hit the Refresh button hoping that this would make FileMaker Server find the databases.
This was my first error. I should have read ahead in the instructions to see that one is supposed to use an Upload Database assistant instead...
What happened when I hit refresh was that the FileMaker Server Admin Console became completely unresponsive with a spinning ball as cursor. I left it for about an hour hoping it would terminate, but gave up and tried to shut it down. It wouldn't close, so I force quit it from the Finder. Then I tried to shut down FileMaker Server, but I needed to force quit this as well. After this I thought it would be best to reboot the Mac Mini, so I shut it down, but now it won't even boot, it just stays on the screen with the spinning wheel for ever!
I have tried all the keyboard options while booting, but nothing seems to help. In safe mode, the grey progress bar just grows to about one third, then disappears and leaves the eternally spinning wheel.
The server version of the Mac Mini doesn't have an optical drive, only two internal hard drives. I tried to reinstall from scratch using the optical drive on another Mac on the network. The startup disk appeared when I tried to boot the Mac Mini holding down the option key, and after about 20 minutes or so of the spinning wheel I could actually access the discs. I started by running Disk Utility to check disk permissions. There were a lot of repairs concerning permissions and groups, especially on "Library". It said "ACL differs on Library", I don't know what this is but this was repaired. I then ran Repair Disk. The volume appeared to be OK.
When I tried to reinstall Mac OS X Server however, this failed with the message
"You can't upgrade this version of Mac OS X because a newer version is installed. Mac OS X Server couldn't be installed on this disk." I don't know how this can be, but I may have run software update earlier today.
What should I try next? Should I erase the primary HD and try to install again? Or should I install the system software on the secondary HD? Or should I just try to reboot as is in the hope that the disk permission repairs did the trick...?
Any helpful pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Hello there, I came across your post when browsing the forum for passive advice. I am in the same boat as you and am a first timer for both of these tools. I work for a company who now needs to expand its network and database capabilities. I have been assigned this task and these are the tools i have opted for. I have not yet purchased them and i am pleased to find someone who has my desired setup. Could you please advise on the simplicity of the setup and whether an advanced knowledge is required.
I want to use it in a mixed operating system environment. Is this possible?
    Regards

  • IPod mini - USB - mac mini

The iPod mini is visible on a
    mac mini, OS X 10.3.9, iTunes 4.7
    but is not on a
    mac mini, OS X 10.4.2, iTunes 4.9
My assumption is that there is a problem with the OS?
Seems similar to 10.3 to 10.3.3 which did not detect iPod
    minis either.
Can anyone confirm this? If so, what can I do but reverting to
    10.3.9 ?

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens or doesn't happen.

  • Mac Mini vs Mac Mini Server

Hi I'm a Logic Pro User on a Late 2011 MBP.
Wanting to switch to a Mac Mini or a MacMini Server
Any reason why I should rather go for the Server option?
Presumably if I did I could in theory have 3 macs connected to the MMS with all 3 users using Logic9 simultaneously?

  • IPad mini using Mac mini's AirPort Card

My new iPad mini is connected to the internet via my Mac mini's Internet File Sharing in the system's folder. The iPad's WiFi shows mostly as three to four bars, but it is very slow to load web sites.
My iPad mini is running IOS 6.0.2.
My Mac mini has 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and is running OS X 10.6.8. It is connected to the Internet by DSL with speed .5 to 1 Mbps.
I'm wondering if I buy an external router will I get faster speed or do I just need a faster DSL connection?
    Thanks for any advice.

I've had trouble in the past setting up the older finicky Extreme Base Station and Expresses and ended up settling on WDS to get them to work at all. Is the alternative to set them "join an existing wireless network"?
If you do that, the AirPort Express (AX) is not wirelessly extending your network. It is merely acting as another wireless client and merely provides streaming music and remote printing capabilities.
Also, I was considering upgrading all 3 Airport units (base station and 2 expresses) to the newer 802.11n units. Would this matter considering we're currently using an older iMac. (My daughter has a MacBook Pro that's also from 2006).
If you did that you could use 802.11n's "extend network" feature instead of WDS. You would still need to operate them in an 802.11g compatible mode.
However the new AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) can be configured to operate simultaneously at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. So your early 2006 iMac can be connected via 802.11g at 2.4 GHz while your 802.11n clients could connect via 802.11n at 5 GHz.

  • Mini to Mac     Mini specs

    I've actually got three questions:
I have been given a Mini, a dock, and a cable which attaches to the dock with a USB at the other end. When I plug the USB in the only thing that happens is a battery synbol comes up and a triangle icon with an exclamation point appears. Does anyone know what that means? How can I erase the content?
Also, is there a place where I can go to find out more about my Mini using the serial number?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you very much

That icon means that the battery needs charging.
See: What does this icon mean?
You can erase the iPod content by restoring it.
See: <a href="<a href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983">Restoring the iPod to factory settings.
As far as I know, there is nowhere you can find out about your mini using the serial number except how much (if any) of the warranty remains.
    For that, see this: Support.

  • New Mac Mini & Windows 7 (x64) - Bootcamp won't install

I just tried to install Bootcamp into a new installation of Windows 7 (x64) and was told that it wasn't compatible with this hardware??? Remember, this is a brand-new (mini-displayport) Mac Mini (I knew the older minis were not 64-bit compatible because the 64-bit version of Windows 7 wouldn't even install on it) but why are the 64-bit versions of the Boot Camp drivers not able to be installed in Windows 7 (x64) on a Mac Mini. Just doesn't make sense to me. Thanks, please advise.

This worked fine on my late 2006 Intel iMac running x64 Win 7 Pro. You basically have to use some Windows sleight of hand to force it to run. Cheers
Insert the Snow Leopard DVD in your optical Drive. Note the Windows Drive letter assigmnet for the optical drive (the instructions below assume it is D)
In the Windows 7 Start Menu Type “cmd”, then right-click on the program that appears and choose “Run As Administrator”. A DOS window will appear. You may optionally copy / paste the below commands from a document.
    Then enter
    D:
    The enter
    cd "Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple"
    Then enter
    msiexec /i BootCamp64.msi
The Bootcamp install will now run.

  • Considering buying a Mac Mini but I need to know about support for dual monitors using DVI connectors.

I have a couple of DVI monitors and I'm looking to replace my Windows desktop with a Mac Mini.  I found an article that says it supports dual monitors with Thunderbolt, but I can't find any discussion of using it with existing monitor, or running multiple DVI displays off a single Thunderbolt port.
Has anyone done this?  If so, what's the best way to achieve it?

Yes, the Mac Mini has both an HDMI and Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay Port and supports dual displays in either Mirroring or Extended Desktop Mode.
It ships with an HDMI to DVI adapter that you can use for one DVI Display.
For the second DVI display you will need to buy a > Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and plug that into the Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay Port.

  • Cannot see my shared USB hard disk's connected on my Mac-mini on my Macbook

As you all can see, I'm a Mac user since 1989, i've don't like working on a windows-computer.
But i've got a problem since I'm using Mac os X 10.5. If i try to make a connection with my Macbook pro to my Mac-mini (my Mac-mini has two USB hard disks) i cannot select the USB hard disks. But my WIDOWS computer has no problem to approche these disks???? Can anyone help me????

Hi WillemH777-NL and welcome to the discussion forums.
On the MacMini open system preferences-->sharing
then select 'File Sharing' from the Service column. Then under Shared Folders make sure your 2 usb drives are listed, if not click the + sign and add them.
    then click the 'options' button
make sure Share files and folders using AFP is checked
make sure Share file and folders using SMB is checked
Then switch on the names of the users and the mac can use the smb service.
    then click Done
Now see if you can access the mini's sharepoints.

  • Mac Mini & Mac Mini Server

    Hi
I would like to know the "suitability" of Mac Mini or Mac Mini Server for web hosting (multiple domain/site) purpose. Some basic assumptions include : budget less than USD$5, user base / concurrent access less than 500, hosted at data centre with average bandwidth (not sure at the moment though).
Basically, I am disappointed with the purchase experience with Windows server. I have ready cash but the reseller seems no so keen. Perhaps, I am not the big spender. I wanted Windows server is because my developer is "brained-wash" in Windows world. He uses the standard PHP, mySQL related stuff. So I am trying to "brain-wash" him to Mac but it's a challenging task for me with little knowledge on the subject matter.
I need to know if Mac Mini and or server is "powerful" as compared with Windows server. I know it is not a very "fair" question but if I know there is very few people use such, then I more or less know the answer.
    HTH.

    Some things to consider.
The mini server will consume low power, generate little heat, and can be packed densely into a data center, achieving high levels of clustering or redundancy.  The flash storage is plenty fast but not spacious.  They are also cheap enough to buy two to form a level of redundancy, especially if you are using a load balancer.
However, Mavericks Server no longer includes MySQL.  This download you must do yourself.  PHP and Apache are present but Apple is not always the fastest to patch these two products.  You can replace the stack with a MAMP install which might serve you well.  Server.app does not expose all the Apache features that a hosting service may want/need.  However, you can edit the conf file manually.  If you are planning on giving your customers remote access, FTP is hobbled in Mavericks and you need to do a ton of work (or buy something else) to get multi-tenant chroot.
Regarding "powerful"... If you are using the device for a single task, then the issue falls to the performance of the network card in comparison to your internet connection speed.  If you are getting a 100 MB connection then the possible concurrent requests will never saturate the server.  This assumes that your HTML and images are optimized and you are not sending out a bunch of 1 MB GIFs.  Also, the consideration is Apache vs IIS.  Apple provides Apache and a simple interface for "casual" web services, usually one site or to support its own services.
Keep in mind that there are many Linux solutions that exist in which the cost of hardware might be equal to or less than the mini.  And in this case, you are getting the raw LAMP stack that you can more fully customize and patch.

  • Airplay mirroring on Mac Mini (late 2012) doesn't work, extended display does...

Airplay mirroring on Mac Mini (late 2012) doesn't work, extended display does... What's going wrong here?
    Details: OS X Yosemite 10.10
Apple TV 3rd generation, version 7.0
Switching Airplay on on Mac Mini works. It goes automatically on extended display mode. Switching to mirroring works for about 1 sec and then it switches back to extended display mode. On my tv screen i see my second desktop. Funny detail: it has the desktop background i used previously. Another funny detail: I had exactly the same problem when i used the previous versions of OS X and the Apple TV software...
    Who can help, please!

I also have been having problems with Airplay on my 2014 Mac Mini see Mac Mini 2014 Airplay Display Disconnect Bug?
I"ve also noticed that my Apple TV (3rd Gen) does not appear in the iTunes Airplay list on my Mac Mini whereas it does on my MacBook.
I've booked a call with Apple Support for next Sunday to discuss the issue.
If I get any useful info I will pass it on.

  • Mac mini mid 2011 video blinking out too

As the 2012 mac mini, my mac mini mid 2011 with the 3000 graphics chipset, has video blinking out every hour for about a second, since I upgraded from an ancient cinema display (1600x1040) to a DELL U2713HM 2560x1440 pixels. The old display blinked very rarely too, which I thought to be dips in the grid. The new display blacks out every hour for 1-2 seconds. And when the machine is heavily loaded (xcode indexing 500 files): about every minute.
It is becoming really acute since I updated to OS X 10.8.5 (12F37), and  even WORSE and UNWORKABLE: when the video now blinks the monitor enters power save mode, and I need to switch off and on the monitor to wake up video...

I connected the display via a mini-displayport to displayport cable (the DELL has a displayport port too), but I don't think that is relevant. I don't have that ridiculously overpriced dual-link DVI converter.
Filed a bug at Apple, submitted some system reports when the prob occurred. I hope they will release a firmware fix, or I'll take the mini back to the shop.
