Mis-sold broadband package? Now stuck with it?

I feel slightly agrieved at being talked into buying a broadband package with BT on the premise that I could watch European rugby on BT sport for free. I eventually signed up for unlimited infinity 2 and started to enjoy the aforementioned rugby. All was right with the world.
Then I awoke one day to find that alas BT have paid silly money for the football equivelant and as a result I know have to pay to watch my beloved Rugby. Not only that but I am stuck with 10 months of my 18 months of my contract.
Why is it that the lure used to buy, what is a slightly more expensive product, Broadband with BT can suddenly be changed mid contract yet I still have to carry on taking the broadband and phone?    
Apologies if the tone of my post is slightly off but I am slightly miffed. Not only have I been told that I have to pay for something I was told would be free but then I am stuck with BT Infinity now. Any thoughts on what to do?

It sounds like they sent you the BT Vision+ box rather than the BT Youview box. If this is the case was that for a good reason? The newer BT Youview box has a much better interface and will pick up the Freeview HD channels over the TV aerial.
There are two reasons for still sending out a BT Vision+ box to a new customer.
(1)  The customer wants to view BT Sport 1 & 2 over the TV aerial as they are not on Infinity broadband. This requires a viewing card slot which the BT Youview box doesn't have.
(2)  The customer has subscribed to Sky Sports. BT currently can't offer them on the BT Youview box.

    Since you are using one of the the school's Macbooks, it is quite possible that the time and date are not properly set on the computer that you are using.  FaceTime will not work if you do not have the proper time zone set up for the location that you are in.  This past week, there were a two other Macbook users I've helped by simply telling them to set the Date/Time properly.  By the way, you described your problem very well, which makes it easier for us to help you.  Hope this solves your problem -- if not, post back and I can suggest other remedies.

    I cannot get into Settings! It keeps reading out Slide to Unlock when I try to slide teh arrow to open the fpur digit entry boxes.

    There is no other way than to plug into a computer to restore the phone. You can use another computer to do so, but in case you did not back up to iCloud your data and settings will be gone.

    - What was the error message?
    - Try closing iTunes and then disconnect the iPod from the computer. Then reconnect the iPod.  If the iPod shows in iTunes then you can try again.  However, You should try to resolve the error message first.
    - If iTunes does not see the iPod try reetting the iPod:
    Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
    button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - I recommend that you come back with the what the error message said and the condition of the iPod and if it is visible in iTunes.

    This seems to have been fixed by going to settings>iCloud, deleting Safari, and then adding it back again, effectively resetting iCloud for Safari on the iOS device.

  • Miss sold broadband package

    I had contacted BT to enquire about the best package for me as the broadband speed I was getting with another provider was very slow, the sales person that I spoke to said they could connect the Fibre Optic to my copper wires to increase my speed. I stated " I HAVE THE OLD ALUMINIUM WIRES COMING TO MY HOUSE (NOT COPPER) " The sales person then did a test and I was informed that I could get "Between 13mb & 19mb, I asked "IS 13mb THE SLOWEST SPEED THAT I COULD EXPECT?" his answer was "YES", I asked is that Guaranteed that the slowest speed that is available to me is 13mb" his answer "YES we can guarantee 100% that your speed will not drop below 13mb and if it does please come back to us so we can look into any faults.
    On the 2nd February 2015 my phone and broadband service was activated, within a couple of days my speed increased fron 4.5mb to approx 6mb, contacted BT who sent an engineer out and he stated "I spent a whole day trying to improve the speed to a neighbouring property and the maximum that they can get is 9mb and you are a little further away from the Green Box (Approx 1000mtrs). after the engineer had change some wires around the speed increased to 8.5mb and he stated "That's the BEST you'll get"
    Contacted BT a few days later I was sent a text message "A engineer has been booked to come and visit your property and If the fault is at your property there will be a charge of £129.99p"
    I replied and "And if the fault is with BT's equipment I will charge YOU £129.99P"
    A second engineer visited (he was working 250 miles away from his home)
    He was also unable to increase the speed as there are ALUMINIUM WIRES Coming to my house,
    SO CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THE CONTRACT THAT WAS MIS-SOLD TO ME ????????????????

    Welcome to the community forum and thanks for your post.  Sorry for the problems you're having with your broadband speed since upgrading.
    I understand your decision to upgrade was based on my colleague guranteeing that the minimum speed you'd receive would be 13meg and that at this moment in time the service is performing below that.

  • UPGRADING IS BEYOND A JOKE. Now stuck with 2 contr...

    On 17th Dec, I received a call from a BT salesperson asking if I wanted to add broadband to my unlimited anytime call BT package, at a cost of £8 per month for 12 months, and £16 per month thereafter for the remaining 6 months. The upgrade was to begin on 24th Dec. 
    Since my husband has an existing broadband package which he pays for, he wanted to take over responsibility for the bill, so that the account is in his name. We were assured that changing the name on the account was a simple process - all we had to do was contact customer services. I agreed to upgrade based on this.
    I telephoned BT Customer Services on 18th Dec to change the name on the account. After spending more than an hour on the phone, to two advisors, I was told that the account could be changed to my husband's name, but only if he took up a new contract (which was a different (worse) deal to the one I was offered on 17th). The package offered was downgraded and we were advised that we would have to take up a new telephone number. We did not agree to this, and after a lengthy conversation with a second advisor, we were told that the upgrade agreed on the 17th would be cancelled, and a new upgrade (starting a week later) in my husband's name would begin. We specifically received confirmation that this would not result in 2 contracts, or that our telephone number would change.
    However, on 24th Dec, we received our BT hub - the first contract had not been cancelled. After ringing customer services, I was told "not to worry, a new contract would take over on the 31st in your husband's name". It is now apparent that the original contract was not cancelled (and the 7 day cooling off period has now passed).
    We do not want a new telephone number, we do not want the hassle of changing it over, and now I am locked into a contract I no longer want. This is not good enough.
    I have spent hours on the phone getting nowhere, and the customer service that BT has provided has been extremely poor. I wish we had never accepted the offer to upgrade, and that we had stayed with our previous provider. I will not be recommending BT to any friends or family in the future.

  • HT1212 My ipad mini has been crashing a lot recently so I started a system reset. However, it's now stuck with the progress bar less than a quarter gone: this has been the case for several days now. I have tried resetting from itunes but it needs the pass

I have also tried resetting through itunes which works right up to the point where itunes states that it needs the passcode to be inputted into the ipad to connect to it. At which point it then sticks at the same progress bar point. HELP!! please, this ipad is really important to my work.

    Well the term "hotlined" I have never heard before. In any case many states (like NY) just passed regulatory powers to the State Public Service Commission of which it may be called something different in your state. You could file a complaint with them. Or file a complaint with your state attorney generals office, they also take on wireless providers.
    The problem here is the staff you speak to are poorly trained, in days gone by it took one call to them and they pulled up your account and see the error and had the authority to remove any errors. They did not remove legitimate account actions, but used their heads instead of putting a customer off or worse lying to the customer.
    Its a shame you have to go through what you going through.

    I had that same thing happen to me when I was updating my iPhone to iOS 5! What I did was I just kept resetting and resetting and holding down the home and power buttons until 3 in the morning. (ok, maybe it was only midnight but it sure FELT like 3 AM!) Anyway, I would just keep at it until it decides it wants to cooperate. Mine eventually did.

    Force the phone into recovery mode & restore it:
    Turn your phone off. Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.

    I have encountered this problem with my first IPAD2 and brought it back to the Apple Store.  They gave me a new one and I used it for a few weeks and my MIC was not working so I decided to try and install the update.  I hard wired my laptop this time and again I had the same error.  The IPAD2 froze so I went back to the Apple Store and they tried to fix the problem.  They could not.  So they are going to give me another new one.  I asked them what the problem could be and they said it was my computer and I should select the download and not the download and install. But to be honest I do not remember I had that option.  When I get my new one, I will see if I get the option to select how I  update my IPAD.   I also saw  a message on this site that suggested closing all security programs before attempting to updat the software.  I did ask the apple rep when I returned my IPAD today if the security programs would interfer with the update.  They said no, but I will try anything to get the update to work.  If you find an answer let me know

    I have a G5 running 10.3 Panther. I am having problems with some apps so thought I'd reinstall. I put install disc 1 of the 3 in and clicked on install icon. It turned itself off then came on again and now all it does is show the Apple logo and the fan comes on after a few minutes. It's been stuck like that for a couple of hours now. I've tried unplugging and restarting but it always goes to this Apple logo?. All I want to do know is start it up and get the disc out. Help!

    Hold down the mouse button while starting computer to eject disc.
    Hold down C key while starting computer with disc in to boot from CD which is what you actually have to do to run the installer.
    Not all third party mice or keyboards will work at early boot stage.
