  • Need Chipset Driver for USB support

    Hi.
This Windows XP-SP3 PC has 4xUSB2 or 2xUSB3 on-board ports, and all have failed. All USB devices are yellow-flagged in device manager.
I have run SFC \SCANNOW and it runs to completion, and I have tried right-clicking on a yellow-flagged USB entry in Device Manager and selecting Update Driver, but that only results in the following dialog:
    Cannot Install This Hardware
There was a problem installing this hardware:
    Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
An error occurred during the installation of the device:
The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF file was written for Windows 95 or later. Contact your hardware vendor stop
It has been suggested to me that I should try to obtain the Chipset Driver for USB support. Running Speccy reveals the following about the mainboard:

       Model   MS-7267 (CPU 1)
       Version   3.0

             Brand   American Megatrends Inc.

  • Moved drive to USB Port on Time Capsule and TM no longer sees backups

I moved my FireWire attached HD from a direct attachment to my Mac Pro to attached via the USB port on my Time Capsule. Time Machine now wants to start over, and does not see the previous backups.
The destination drive name did not change, other than the added NAS address.
Is there a way to force TM to use the previous backup set incrementally instead of starting over?
    Thx

unfortunately, it's not that simple. TM treats backups to directly attached drives differently vs. networked ones.

  • New imac doesn't locate old imac hard drive via usb port

I have an old iMac from ~2006 that recently stopped reading the harddrive.  I pulled the HD out and connected it to my new imac via USB port but I can't locate it.  The HD spins/powers up so I know the connector is strong enough to supply power.  We connected it to my husband's PC and he can see that there is a harddrive but cannot see any files to read.  He even tried Catacombe to try to read files but it didn't work.  My first issue is how can I locate my HD on the new mac?  But the main issue is how can I pull data/pictures off of the old harddrive and import them to my new computer.  I don't hear any clicking sounds from the harddrive so it seems to be working.  I can't reformat it because I don't want to lose the pictures on it.  I don't need the old harddrive to work/write.  I just need to pull the information off of it.  TIA.

I was not familiar with catacombae , but now I am .
You have a problem with either a corrupt file system on the hd or a hardware problem with the hd.  I'd say try mounting in disk utility.  Try reparing filesystem on hd.  Try one of the disk repair utilities.  Some have a free trail that let's you know if they can do anything.  You pay to get the data.  Seek profession help.  Pay $$$.

  • Recovery media program not recognizing flash drive in USB port

I have a new NB505-N500BL netbook. I am trying to create a backup using the Toshiba Recovery Media Center.
However, it doesn't seem to recognize that I have an 8GB flash drive installed.
Everytime I hit "create," I get the message to insert a 7.7GB flash drive. When I hit "OK" I get a msg to insert a flash drive greater than 7.7GB.
The 8GB flash drive is installed. I've tried it in all 3 USB ports. I've tried inserting it before turning ont the computer and afterwards.
I bought the flash drive directly from Toshiba so it should be good. I also assume a new 8GB flash drive meets the requirements of 7.7GB.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Emma

    Hi Emma,
Contrary to what the size it's asking for, it's possible that the drive is just slightly too small. Even though the data may fit on the drive you have, the way TRMC calculates its free space may be slightly off. If you wish, you can try building this by hand and see if it fits. As follows:
    1. First format the USB drive and make it active.
    2. Now reboot the machine hitting the <F8> key until you are presented with a menu.
    3. The first option should be "Repair...", then hit <ENTER>
    4. You will be present with two login screens and eventually arrive at a repair menu.
    5. First open up a command box and leave it open.
    6. Now go back to the menu and launch the "TOSHIBA Recovery Wizard".
    7. It will eventually get to a warning screen. Don't go pass this warning screen.
    8. Once it gets to the warning screen, toggle back to the command box.
    9. All you need to do is copy the contents from (I believe it's drive Q:\" to you root of your USB drive.
    "robocopy Q: (USB Drive letter) /E /R:1 /W:2
    10. Once everythings copied (assuming it fits), <Cancel> and the warning screen and then try rebooting from your USB drive.

  • Airport extreme working with external hard drive via USB port adaptor :)

Hi Everyone. I hope this post will be helpful because I have been very frustrated with apple and their customer support and I figured this out on my own by reading all of the discussions and playing with my settings but it took me a while...
I recently for school bought all apple products and I have non-mac products as well. I bought the airport extreme believing I could hook up all of my computers through it and share the printers and my mybook external hard drive with my husbands desktop and the other lap tops. Unfortunately this was not as easy as advertised...
I was not able to successfully have both computers stay connected to the printers so I have to have mine for my laptop connected via the airport extreme and my husband has his desktop connected to a different printer via a ethernet cable. It would work at set up and then a few hours later not print anymore and reinstalling the drivers just confused it... if anyone knows a solution for this please let me know. It worked wirelessly for me but not for him.
As far as the external drive for the airport extreme goes I went and bought an additional USB port hub so I could access my printer wirelessly and my external hard drive as well for time machine back ups.
I set up my external hard drive so that it will save files from both a mac and a non-mac computer and we can both access it (not sure if that matters in the solution or problem for others); however, the desktop (non-mac) was able to by clicking and dragging files to it assess the hard drive and utilize it and my macbook was not able to because the airport extreme showed the drive under disks but when I tried to access it through time machine it was not there. I played with this for a long time and finally figured it out.
I believe I went under finder, then chose go from the menu bar, then chose connect to server and the default for it is afp://10.0.1.1.. You enter this in under server address and you may be prompted to give your password. The password was tricky as well because it showed my computers user name and I thought it would want that password but instead it wanted the password to log into my internet or my airport extreme's password. Once I put this in I was able to open my time machine preferences, finally choose the mybook external hard drive that was now showing up, choose it and my computer is currently doing a back up as I type without the error message of failed, unable to locate volume, or any others.
Hope this posting was helpful and not to confusing and feel free to message me if you need clarification and think this may solve your problem as well. GOOD LUCK!

Seems to me you should have done your homework setting up your network and not assuming that any third party device you choose to use would work without problems.

  • I think I have blown out my USB ports.  Plugged eternal drive to USB port;  drive also had an AC plug which I plugged in.  Screen went white;  unplugged external drive (both USB and AC plug).  Restarted MAC Pro.  Everything came back except USB ports

I think I have blown out my USB ports.  Plugged in an external drive to USB, but drive also had an AC connection which I connected.  Whole screen went white; unplugged external drive (both AC and USB) and shut down MacPro.  Restarted and everything came back except access to USB ports.  Have tried to reset PRAM and SMC.  No success.  Have I blown out the electronic circuitry to my USB ports?

Thanks for the response, but ironically enough, I feel really stupid after posting that because a couple minutes after posting that my DELL mouse started working again, but I honestly don't know how long that'll last. After it started working again, I tried switch which port it's plugged into again, and the other one (the one closest to me) still isn't working. If it stops working again (which it probably will), I'll definitely take it to the Apple Store. But, for some reason almost every time I take a device to the Apple Store, it fixes the problem itself when I get there, and then stops working after I leave (like just now.)
That's happened a couple times, like when my computer was heating up alot, and when my phone's sound kept shutting off by itelf.
Anyways, I want to keep this discussion up just because I know it'll stop working soon. But, yeah, I was planning on taking it to the Apple Store anyways, but I think the earliest I can is probably Saturday or Sunday, so I'll do that then.
    Thanks for the response!

  • Driver for USB 1608 G

    Hi everyone,
I'm new on Labview and I want to acquire data from a usb 1608G from Measurement Computing. I can acquire data thanks to the ULx for NI Labview Library included in the usb 1608 G but I would like to use the Measurement & Automation Explorer...
Unfortunately, it does'nt recognize the usb port... Is it because the usb 1608G is not a NI instrument? Is it because I don't have the correct driver?
    Thanks for your answers,
    Morgane CHARBONNEAU.

    Hello,
If you have LabVIEW drivers for your usb device, why you want to use MAX for this?
If you want to communicate using MAX, your device should fall in either USBTMC Class or RAW Class. Starting with version 3.0, NI-VISA supports USB communication for two classes of VISA resources USB INSTR (Test and Measurement Class) and USB RAW (class).
More information will be available in http://www.ni.com/white-paper/4478/en/

  • Missing Driver for Epson PictureMate 500

Can someone help me? I've recently crossed over from Windows and while delighted I made the move I still can't print my photos. I've gone onto the EPSON website, downloaded the correct installer (epson11775.dmg) and run it. But when I then connect the printer and run iPhoto it can't find the correct printer driver. I'm looking under EPSON, Epson PM... but "Epson PM 500" isn't there? What am I doing wrong - where can I locate the driver that the installation software installed?

    Hi Jamie
It's not often you even need to install a driver for Mac.
Normal procedure is, physically connect the printer to the USB port, switch it on.
Open Printer Setup Utility (found in Applications/Utilities), click Add
You are then shown the Printer already selected, and the driver for it that came with the Mac is automatically loaded. Press OK and you're done.
That's what I would have done first. However to again install the driver, which would be updating the existing one, one just double clicks on the epson28087eu.sit package, which will open and run an installer which will install the driver files to their correct locations. You don't have to manually place them anywhere.
So the question is, can Printer Setup Utility see your printer when you click Add? If not you may have to select from there, in one of the dialogue boxes and select 'USB'.

  • PLugging a drive into USB port through the router

When i plug my LAcie 500gig into the USB port through the router, the drives never turns of its keeps spinning. Is there a way to put it to sleep when attached to the router?

In my view if any external device is plugged into any USB port on the Mac it is important that the device operating voltage in NOT more than the standard +5volt as specified by the USB pin specifications.  Anything of higher voltage is very likely to blow the internal fuse and the machine will fail to power up permanently.  I never had to replace one, but believe it is a full dismantling job with soldering  and replacement of specialised power supply fuse - if  that is in the design.
Failing this it may be a very expensive motherboard replacement job!!
    Any other thoughts?

  • How to download data to flash drive in USB port

this seems like it would be a simple basic thing to do....

How is the flash drive formatted? What disk format is required by your synthesizer? I'm thinking you probably need to use a PC format - NTFS or FAT. OS X cannot write to an NTFS formatted drive, but it can write to one formatted FAT (MSDOS.) If you can use the latter, then you need to format the flash drive. This is not straight-forward on the Mac as it would be on a PC.
Put the flash drive in a USB port on your Mac and open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list.Click on the Partition tab in the Disk Utility main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to MBR then click on the OK button. Set the format type to MSDOS. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Check the status and be sure it shows Format type: as MSDOS. If not, then repeat Steps 2 and 3.
    Try the flash drive now.
