Missing pages when exporting to ePub?

I'm using Indesign CS4 to create an epub.  However, when I export it, pages out of my book are missing.  I have applied character and paragraph styles to all the text, and everything is in the indd file, just not in the epub.  Does anyone have any solutions that might fix this problem?

I think I figured it out.  I had multiple paragraph styles in the same group.  When I put them in different boxes, it worked

  • Centering Object Vertically on Page when exporting to ePUB

I am preparing my first ePUB book using InDesign 5.5. I would like to center the graphic object on the title page, but I cannot figure out how to center an object vertically on a page.  Although I can achieve the intended result on my screen in InDesign, when I export to ePUB, the object goes to the very top of the page and is no longer centered vertically.  I have a few other pages (the dedication page, the copyright page, etc.), where I have text that I would like to have centered vertically on the page -- same problem.  Please help.  Thanks.

Irregardless of what you are doing in your InDesign document, an ePub export has to follow the very strict rules of HTML -- and not even the full set as we know it from (semi)formatted web pages, but a subset thereof. There is absolutely no guarantee you can export all you can do in InDesign to an ePub, in fact, there is only very little that survives this radical downsaving.
Besides, I'd have to check but I don't think Adobe intended InDesign to be the once-and-future ePub Layout Engine. Rather, its export is to facilitate cross-publishing, and helping you on your way creating the eBook of your (e)Dreams -- but you have to do the finalizing with some better targeted software.
But, basically, your premise -- that you can put something "at the bottom of an e-page" -- is wrong to begin with! A proper eBook can be reflowed, the font and its size can be changed, the reading window can be resized (on some devices) or rotated from landscape to portrait and back (on some devices). So there is no concept of a "page", and everything you pull off to "be" at the bottom might appear at the top for other views.

  • Indesign CS5.5 audio control creating a new page when exporting to epub.

I am trying to publish an ebook with embeded audio and when I export to epub the audio contol appears on a seperate page.  Any ideas how to keep this from happening?  I have tried articles and anchored objects.

How are you creating the Audio control? Is it set for play on Page Load?
What audio format are you using? The best format is MP3.
I've played with video (MP4) in EPUB on a iOS device but haven't done audio. If the audio isn't working, you might make an MP4 movie without an image (sound only) which would give you a controller.

  • Missing data when exporting webi to excel (not 65536 limit problem)

    Hi guys
I just meet a problem about webi that it will miss data when exporting webi to excel.
It's not about 65536 limitation, as my webi report do some aggregration and limitation and never beyond that limitation.
Also there are 2 tabs in my reports, if I split the 2 tabs into 2 separate reports and export them separately, then problem disappeared.
    Any ideas on this?

  • Error in Pages when exporting ePub with image cover: Other images dissapear

That's it, if I insert an image in the first page, and select use first page as cover when exporting ePub, some (not all) other images inside the book will dissappear. I checked everything many times, and all the images are placed ok (not floating)...
    Any idea about this issue?
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the Apple forums
Exporting to ePub is new to Pages 4 with the 9.0.4 updaters. It appears that most Pages users don't have a need to export to ePub, so no replies. Sorry.
    For Yvan,
The iPad Pages forum won't help in this situation. The iPad version of Pages can't export to ePub & Pages isn't involved in reading ePub files on the iPad.

  • Recent InDesign change suppresses non-printing layers when exporting to EPUB

I hate it when development teams quiety "fix" features I've come to rely on.
I am using InDesign CC 9.2.
Until a recent update, when I exported a book to EPUB from InDesign, layers which were set to show but not print were included in the export. I relied on this because my documents include a non-printed Table of Contents block on the first page of each piece included in the anthology. This block causes the correct page to be set when generating the TOC (notice that it's on the page facing the title, not the title page itself) and is used to print the correct title on the title page of each story and running headers throughout the body.
(An example document - Click for full size)
Up to at least January 2014, when I exported to EPUB, that visible-but-not-printed block was included in the XHTML output. I could then modify CSS to optimize for e-reader display and the title and author names would appear at the top of each piece. Sometime within the past couple of months, that has changed: layers that are not printed also do not export to EPUB. This wouldn't be so big a problem except that the printed title in the image above also is not output to the EPUB file, because it's a text variable in the underlying master page.
If you like reading and messing with markup, as I do, the next two images illustrate the problem.
(The old output - Click for full size)
    The new output:
(The new output - Click for full size)
I have five volumes of the anthology so far (comprising roughly 30 stories each) with a new one coming out every three months. Now that this change has been thrown at me, I need to get it resolved or come up with a good workaround while I only have a couple hundred documents to update, instead of double that a year from now.
Thank you for any help or suggestions you can provide!

Going back through every document to override Master Page objects just to get the elements to export is not a realistic workaround.
The change that suppresses visible but non-printing objects is annoying, but at least it's a documented change in 9.2. The change that suppresses all Master Page elements as well is not documented (or at least not documented in an obvious way) and so to me it's a bug.
Ideally, if these new changes are required by some users, the old behavior could at least become an option: the export to EPUB dialog could add checkboxes for "Include non-printing objects" and/or "Include Master Page elements" so that users like me are not left with no way to continue to use existing functionality.

  • Problem embedding video in Pages and exporting as epub

I'm using pages 09 ver 4.2 (1008). I' trying to embed video (.m4v and .mov)  I can't find the checkbox  'Copy audio and movies into document'. The user guide says it's an advanced option on the 'save as' but my version of pages runnning on Lion 10.7.4 doesn't have a save as'- just a 'save a version. It apparently does auto save).
I'm using Book Proofer to send the epub generated by Pages to my iPad. The strange thing is that some times the videos work and then I add another and one that used to work don't even appear when viewed on my iPad.
Any one had experience adding video (eother m4v or mov files using pages and exporting as a epub?
    Thanks for any insights!

As far as I know, the Keynote export does not support video, only images and text (and, new with version 3, mp3 audio!).

  • Navigational TOC doesn't show up when exported to epub, any suggestions?

    Hi All!
I created a Table of Contents document in the book that I am creating but when I export it for Digital Editions the TOC page just shows completely blank. This is my first epub and I don't know if I'm setting it up right. Has anyone else had a similar problem? If so, how did you fix it? Thank you so much!!

When you say the whole TOC page is blank, what do you mean? A navigational TOC appears in the Navigation Pane on the left of Adobe Digital Editions. In iBooks it drops down from the Contents icon at the top of the page.
If you place an InDesign-created TOC, it WON'T appear on an EPUB page when created out of InDesign CS4. That's because it's not considered part of the main story flow. You'll need to manually create a TOC which appears on a page with cross-references.

  • Centered images float left when exporting to epub - images don't stay centered

    Hi,
I have created an ebook with from the template apple instructs to use (http://images.apple.com/support/pages/docs/ePub_Best_Practices_EN.zip)
and i've added some images on several pages. they are all centered and set to inline (as epub can't handle floating objects/images)
but when i export to epub almost all images appear floating left in the epub file except for a few images.
i can't figure out why or how do i keep them centered. i've tried selecting the rows below and above with the one the image is on and centering the text. i've tried adding the "object causes wrap" and chose the one that centeres the image. nothing works.
    any advice would be great.
    Thanks
    J

    Hi Steph,
That worked for some of the images but not for all of them.
I found a strange solution that worked in conjunction with your solution.
After you center the "text line" that it is on (or the one under it like you say), i mark the image and in the sidebar in which you choose the type of line/text (like chapter title or sub title etc') and you make the image or image line as a a chapter title or subtitle. prefprebly subtitle as to not mess with the table of content.
then when i exported to epub the images were finally centered. all of them.
hope this helps if anyone else encounters that issue.
    Thanks for the added help.

  • Making text scalable when exporting to epub

I've created a digital book in InDesign and I need to know how to make the text scalable on e-readers when I export the file as an epub. Does anyone know how to do this?

Reflowable is what you want to export it as if you want to be able to scale using the 'A' in iBooks.  You do have to do a fair amount of formatting beforehand to keep it looking 'pretty' when you export to ePub.  For starters - you should not use an 'enter' to create space between lines or you will loose it in the export.  You'll need to use the 'Space After' function in the Paragraph Toolbar to create that space. The page break is a whole different story...
    Hope that helps!

  • Export Tag Ignored When Exporting to ePub

    Hello all,
I am using InDesign CS6 to create a document for export to ePub. I am creating page breaks in the ePub by selecting the Split Document option in the paragraph styles. This works in every case except for my Table of Contents. The TOC is formatted using the TOC Styles. I have selected a paragraph style for the heading of my TOC that uses the Split Document option. But when I export to ePub the TOC does not start on a page by itself. Any suggestions on how to make this work?
    Thank you!

The solution suggested by Steve Werner surely makes sense and I tried it but it didn't work for me.
I created a new text frame above the text frame in which the styled TOC appears. In that text frame I typed the title of my TOC which is simply Contents. I created a new paragraph style for the word Contents and selected the Split Document option for that para style.
In the TOC Style dialog I left the Title field blank and for Style I selected "No Paragraph Style" as shown below. I updated the TOC.
But when I exported to ePub the TOC header (Contents) does not appear at all and the TOC does not start on its own page.
My document has three pages immediately preceding the TOC. First page is a paragraph of Acknowledgements, second page is the copyright page, third page is a poem that serves as a foreword, fourth page should be the table of contents. I have successfully used the Para Styles with the Split Document option to allow the first two pages (Acknowledgements and copyright) to be separate pages. But even after trying the workaround suggested above the poem and the TOC are placed on the same page. And I simply can't fathom why the title "Contents" does not appear at all.
Any suggestions? Is there a limit to how many paragraph styles can use the Split Document option?

  • Layout Problems When Exporting to ePub

    Hi,
When exporting my document to ePub, I always receive the following errors:
Export Warning - Some style settings, including multiple columns, table styles, and character formatting, aren’t supported. Your document might look different.
Export Warning - Headers and footers aren’t supported and were removed.
First of all, how can I see these on the document? When I look at pages, the layout seems perfect.  Please note that I used Baskerville as the font everywhere, didnt use any multiple columns or tables. There are no footers but only some headers.
The main problem I have is with the layout. Some chapters need to start on a new page but instead iBooks puts it at the end of the last page. Please check the picture below as what I mean.
There also is a blank page on the ibooks which I dont know why. It is a single page and it is blank. There are no blank pages on my pages doc...
Also on TOC, I dont see anything like ''Title Page'' on pages but when I export it to ibooks, on top there is this ''title page'' thing. My book will not be in English so is there any way to delete it from TOC?
    Thank you
    Note: I use Pages v4.3

  • Choosing the optimum graphics resolution when exporting to epub from ID5

I'm creating a ebook for the iPhone that includes a bunch of images. I'd like some help choosing the correct resolution for those images when they're exported to an epub file.
These images were imported into an ID5 document as EPS files. They are 100% vector-based BW (2 bit) line art.
The Export to ePub dialog box gives me the option of choosing Low, Medium, High and Maximum resolution for bitmpas of the images that ID5 will create during the export process.
Smaller is better from the standpoint of file size and display performance, but I want the images to look sharp.
Which of these options is probably the best for the iPhone?
    Thanks! --Mike

Thanks for your replies. Upon further investigation, actually Pages is producing good code and it displays properly in various ebook readers, but not under iOS. *So this is not a Pages issue at all.*

  • SSRS 2008 R2 - Missing Data when Exporting to Excel or CSV (Row Count is 500)

    Hey Folks,
When exporting SSRS 2008 R2 report  to an csv or excel file not all the rows are being exported. Any suggestions on why this is occurring. The number of rows is less then 500 and it seems to be a pretty straight forward export. Any help is
greatly appreciated.  Inherited this and not sure if this would be configuration issues or something else. It is happening on a number of reports.
    Thanks.

    Hi Humbly,
According to your description, when you export report into CSV or Excel format, some rows are missing.
In your scenario, since you are missing data “rows” in your exported file, we are guessing if you have any visibility setting like toggle which hide those records. It’s possible that you have set toggle or visibility in your report. After exporting
Excel/CSV, some data might not appear properly. In SSRS 2008 R2, it has reported this kind of issue about data missing after exporting. However, those scenarios are not exactly same as your issue. It mostly turns out be conflict between data and “layout render”
and related to DataElementOutput property. DataElementOutput property controls export behavior, it indicates which report item data should appear in Excel/CSV render. For more information, please refer to this article: Reporting Services:
Why aren’t all my report columns exporting to CSV and/or XML?.
As we tested in our environment(SSRS 2008 R2), no matter what we export into CSV or Excel, we get same results as in BIDS . So I would like to know your report design structure. If possible, please provide some screenshots about results in BIDS and Excel/CSV
render extension results. It may help us find out the root cause of your issue. Thank you.

  • Image quality seems poor when exporting to ePub (even on max)

    Hello all,
I've been using InDesign to prep a book for export to ePub format, and it will include several images. Things are going fairly well now that I finally think I've got my mind around the way InDesign works and how to think/prep in advance (i.e. get the Masters right and think 'styles' for as much as possible).
But, when I get things exported to ePub format, I've noticed that the images seem to loose resolution even when I choose jpeg at the maximum setting. Where it's most obvious is when there is text in parts of an image (like text on a map), and at smaller fonts the text becomes blurry and unreadable. The image is pristine and sharp in Photoshop, and is very clear in InDesign doing the layout, and even if I simply save it as a jpeg in Photoshop it stays sharp and things are clear and ledgible. But...
...From InDesign...exported to ePub format using the maximum settings...it ends up soft, or a bit fuzzy, to the extent that whether viewing in Digital Editions or ePubReader in Firefox, the smaller text is virtually unreadable.
Anyone have any ideas why this happens? I could consider making the initial image some much-larger size and hope that when it shrinks to fit the reader window maybe it will still be clear. But I've read that 'best practice' is to keep the image between 300 and 600 pixels in width, so I've made sure it was a bit less that 600. Regardless, it just isn't good enough as it is now.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    -T

I'm having the same problem. About 4 out of every ten images are exported at half the resolution of the rest -- looking at the images in Photoshop each apparent "pixel" is actually 2 x 2 pixels across.
This occurs both at "high" and "maximum" settings, the images are still borked and the only difference is the resultant file size.
I've read the PDF referred to in the reply but it says nothing about this.
My guess is that this is a bug triggered by certain dimensional inputs to the exporter (a la the Photoshop bug where rotating pixels 90° causes artifacts when the area involved is an even number of pixels by an odd number of pixels -- see http://bjango.com/articles/photoshopcs6wishlist/ ).
