Missing preview fullscreen zoom and trackpad gestures

in 10.5 it was possible to zoom a picture or pdf in preview's fullscreen mode with cmd and +/-.
but in 10.6 it seems to be no longer possible. some say that you still can zoom in fullscreen mode with trackpad gestures. but is there a solution without trackpad gestures on an older MacBook?
this problem leads me to the general question if it is possible to do trackpad gestures on an old macbook by pressing any extra keyboard key in addition to a one or two finger trackpad action?
thank you for hints.
hans

thank you.
for viewing pdf's i use skim now. it still can zoom in fullscreen.

  • Tabs for Point & Click, Scroll & Zoom, and More Gestures do not show.

    Hi all
    Had to reformat my drive and install a fresh copy of lion but I can not see the  tabs for Point & Click, Scroll & Zoom, and More Gestures in my preferences all I get is
    Anyone have any ideas ?

    Never mind. I found the answer. There is a selection in the Trackpad titled "When using gestures to scroll or navigate, move content in the direction of finger movement" that is what controls the setting.
    I actually found the answer after I posted the question. I tried all kinds of combinations in the new ask a question psuedo-search feature of the support site and nothing showed up. After you post, the site offers questions similiar to the one just posted. It was one of those that solved the problem. I guess I didn't get enough keywords correct for the right answer to show up. I just wish Apple would let you do a standard search instead of trying to be helpful. So far, I've not found any answers I was looking for with the new search tool. All answers have been found on different sites using Google. Grrrr. </rant>

  • Thunderbolt and trackpad gestures

    Will thunderbolt devices work in Windows 7 through boot camp?  And do trackpad gestures (2 finger swiping, etc) work in windows 7?
    Thanks!

    I don't think anyone can know yet how and when Thunderbolt support will come and under what constraints it will operate under when run on bootcamp. Thunderbolt as a technology hasn't even generally been released by Intel yet, and until development occurs across a fairly wide spectrum of developers you won't see a lot of compatibility.

  • Preview zoom and page advance gestures unresponsive

    hi everyone, i have a late-2013 13" macbook pro retina, which came preloaded with mavericks. as the title suggests, preview at times is unresponsive to the trackpad gestures to pinch zoom and advance pdf pages. the current page just moves around in the window on its own without zooming or advancing.
    has anyone else had this issue?

    Same here -MBP 15", mid-2009- : 2-finger gesture for zoom doesn't work at all in Preview, neither in PDF nor in graphic (JPG, TIF, etc.) files.
    Any solution, any advice?
    Saluditos,
    Ferrán.
    Edit: I just found another thread describing the same problem, and one of the aswers made me try something: disable zoom gestures in Settings, reboot and then re-enable them back again. Problem solved.

  • Trackpad gesture 3 and 4 fingers not working after upgrate to Yosemite

    Hi, Pls help
    Today I have install Yosemite on my macbook pro 2011 late, First time macbook on, everything is OK. but after install some application and then restart, suddenly trackpad gesture is not working.
    I have try the following to fix this problem but still no solution..
    1. Restart macbook
    2. Unable and reenable the Gesture
    3. Killall dock
    I think this is bug of Yosemite.. any other solution please?

    Mine does the same, and when I use the keyboard shortcut (control + arrow key) it will shift but once the other screen has appeared, the preview app is activated, almost like it's stuck on. Sometimes I've been able to get it working again by relaunching Finder, but I mostly have to restart the machine. Very frustrating.

  • How to use trackpad gestures with Windows 8 Developer Preview?

    I have installed a Windows 8 Developer Preview on my MacBook via BootCamp Assistant. I found that it isn't support the trackpad gestures! (ex: two-fingers tap to right-click)
    So how can I use the trackpad gestures with Windows 8?
    Thank you for all reply.

    The BootCamp drivers that you can download and burn to a disc via the Boot Camp application in Mac OS can be installed in Windows 8 (run setup.exe from the disc while in Windows 8, preferably by right-clicking and choosing "Run as Administrator") and will allow you to use all of the current features of the touchpad (including two finger clicking/tapping).  Once you have installed the drivers as described above, you can then click on the arrow in the System Tray and right-click on the black triangle that is for the BootCamp control panel. In those settings you can change how the touchpad responds to your taps, clicks, etc.

  • Viewing Modes at fullscreen- where's the Zoom and Panoramic options???

    I was wondering if there was an option to crop videos in Quicktime for Mac, so I had a look at the help viewer. Then, under 'Viewing Movies at Full Screen' I noticed it states that in fullscreen, you can move your cursor up to View, you can access Fit to screen, Zoom, and Panoramic viewing options.
    The problem is I can't see those options anywhere. Where are they? I am on the latest version of Quicktime. Is there something I am missing? Are there any keyboard short-cuts for these? Is there any cropping options available that I am missing?
    Thanks for any help.

    Although QT Player 7.2 offers full screen playback without the Pro key I'm wondering whether the other full screen options are Pro only. In any case, try this -- go into full screen display using command-f at this time your movie should be in full screen and now try pressing command-4 (which may give you a "zoom" mode -- it does on my Pro version of QT7.2). Next press command-5 which should produce a stretched or panoramic mode. Actually, all of following command codes should change the display mode (after entering full screen mode with command-f):
    command-0 (50%)
    command-1 (100%)
    command-2 (200%)
    command-3 (fit to screen)
    command-4 ("zoom" or fit to width).
    command-5 ("panoramic or stretch/distort to fill entire screen)

  • No Trackpad Gestures, quitting flash player, and ticking harddrive

    1. Just recently my trackpad gestures have stopped working in Safari. All I get is the 2 finger scroll. The 3 finger page forward/page back doesn't work, and neither does the pinch.
    2. My Adobe flash player quits all the time when I'm watching movies.
    3. And my hard drive has recently started making the "Thinking" noise. It has always been silent before.
    Any thoughts? I appreciate all help!

    It says my disk is fine. I noticed that it would always make that noise while using windows in bootcamp, but never OSX. Now it does it sometimes. Maybe it has some fragmented files that is causing the HD arm to search all over? Who knows. Whats bothering me the most is my trackpad gestures all of a sudden not working. I have snow leopard but the gestures still worked. So I have no clue what caused this change.

  • Limit Area of zoom and swipe in Gesture script

    hi , i want to simulate zoom ( magnifier ) some text info in my android app
    use these script to enable swipe and Zoom Gesture to my text ( that i put in movieclip with instance name : textzoom)
    import flash.ui.Multitouch;
    import flash.ui.MultitouchInputMode;
    import flash.events.TransformGestureEvent;
    import flash.events.GestureEvent;
    var origX:Number;
    var origY:Number;
    Multitouch.inputMode = MultitouchInputMode.GESTURE;
    origX = textzoom.x;
    origY = textzoom.y;
    textzoom.addEventListener(TransformGestureEvent.GESTURE_ZOOM, onZoom);
    function onZoom(e:TransformGestureEvent):void {
        if (textzoom.scaleX > 0.5 && textzoom.scaleX < 3) {
            textzoom.scaleX *= e.scaleX;
            textzoom.scaleY = textzoom.scaleX;
        } else if (textzoom.scaleX < 0.5) {
            textzoom.scaleX = 0.51;
            textzoom.scaleY = textzoom.scaleX;
        } else if (textzoom.scaleX > 3) {
            textzoom.scaleX =2.99;
            textzoom.scaleY = textzoom.scaleX;
        //trace (e.scaleX );
    stage.addEventListener(TransformGestureEvent.GESTURE_SWIPE , onSwipe);
    function onSwipe (e:TransformGestureEvent):void{
    if (e.offsetX == 1) {
    //User swiped towards right
    textzoom.x += 100;
    if (e.offsetX == -1) {
    //User swiped towards left
    textzoom.x -= 100;
    if (e.offsetY == 1) {

            textzoom.scaleY = textzoom.scaleX;
            textzoom.x = origX;
            textzoom.y = origY;
    now i can use zoom and swipe for read text in bigger size ( make easier to read ) , but now there is two problem :
    1. when i zoom the text grows in stage and will cover all my screen and other part , and i don't want this , i just want the zoom function effect on the textzoom movieclip area .
    2.the swipe function will continue till the text goes out of stage and disappeared !! how can i stop swipe function before textzoom movieclip goes out of stage completely ? so user can detect and see the corner of text and swipe them back
    I upload two image to explain it better cause my english is not very good.
    i really need to solve this , please help me , thanks

    I would really like to know this too.
    If you look at the help file:

    (I hope that's a functional URL) It says that the old drag-zoom thing should still work. But I still get the "scrub" style zooming. None of the pref settings seem to affect it. Help!

  • 3 and 4 finger swipes no longer working along with pinch and rotate gesture

    Hi, thanks in advance for your help.
    I have the new aluminum unibody macbook pro. It has had absolutely no problems until now the 3 and 4 finger swipe gestures no longer work on the trackpad, as well as pinching to resize photos in Preview or the two finger rotate gesture.
    I have tried unchecking all of the trackpad gestures that were not working then restarting and rechecking them, as well as unchecking all of them, restarting, and rechecking all.
    The only gestures working right now are the two finger scroll and two finger double click tap.
    These problems are in all of my applications, including Safari, Preview, and Finder as well as Firefox and Chrome. They just don't work anymore, system-wide.
    Any guidance on what to do would be most appreciated. I really miss using the gestures to go backward and forward on webpages.

    Hi demondragon6,
    have a look at http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10423187-263.html for a useful "trackpad issue how-to".
    Several people with this problem appear to have resolved your particular issue by removing the .GlobalPreferences.USER-UUID.plist file - see the link for instructions.
    It is certainly worth trying a PRAM and SMC reset, as Roger suggests, first though.
    Cheers

  • Intermittent keyboard and trackpad freezes in 10.5.2 (not again!)

    Hi all,
    I'm having a major issue with my MacBook Pro built-in keyboard and trackpad. This issue is incredibly reminiscent of the previous widespread keyboard/trackpad freeze problems, documented in a number of threads, such as here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5860606
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1196400
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6103438
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1190210&tstart=0
    What's special about this case is that these issues began very recently, well after I installed Mac OS X 10.5.2, which I recall is supposed to provide a fix for exactly this issue. I've never had a problem with this MacBook Pro notebook before, so this is incredibly unnerving.
    The issue is frustratingly intermittent, but frequent. Sometimes the entire keyboard and trackpad locks up (freezes) and won't acknowledge any input whatsoever. Other times the keyboard and/or trackpad appear to get "choppy", sometimes the keyboard will miss a key causing a typo while typing or the trackpad will suddenly stop moving the cursor. Other times the keyboard will repeat keys by accident, causing maaaaajor typos (kind of like that).
    What's really weird is that I'm seeing the floating "eject" bezel appear (the symbol that you see when you hit the keyboard's eject button) very frequently, when my fingers are nowhere near that key and I'm sure it's not pressed. This even happens sometimes when I'm not using the keyboard at all, just the trackpad (most often while scrolling with the two fingers gesture).
    I've troubleshot this in a number ways. Here is one such troubleshooting session's activity log that I kept while performing the troubleshooting:
    ---- CLIP ----
    MacBook Pro Keyboard Freeze problems troubleshooting log
    * Symptoms are a frozen keyboard and trackpad, that is, no input being recognized by the keyboard or trackpad. Not even the light of the caps lock key lights up when the issue is present.
    * Restarted computer. Issue recurred moments after logging back in and beginning to type.
    * Restarting, zapping PRAM. Issue is gone for a little while but has recurred.
    * Found a single line at the time issue began again in the "All Messages" log shown by Console.app that reads as follows:
    4/24/08 Apr 24, 8:58:15 PM kernel USBF: 551. 7 IOUSBCompositeDriver[0x65b7280](IOUSBDevice) GetFullConfigDescriptor(0) returned NULL
    * Restarting computer again, trying to boot in verbose mode. Can't!! Keyboard wasn't recognized even at this stage! Can't log in either, keyboard unresponsive at login screen.
    * Restarting again (via external USB mouse). Login window comes up and keyboard input is acknowledged. Very strange.
    * Keyboard input lost once again after using the keyboard for a short period of time.
    * Restarting, zapping PRAM again, and Logging in as Leopard's "Guest" user to try and isolate issue...no good, just seconds after logging in, the keyboard and trackpad freeze again.
    * Restarting once again, this time everything works. Noticed that the keyboard backlight is not lighting up in low-light situations. Trying to change the light level with the keyboard keys always results in the keyboard backlight bezel showing up with a prohibitory symbol. This is looking more and more like a keyboard driver issue.
    * Repairing disk permissions, no problems reported. Verifying disk itself, no issues reported. Issue persists.
    Observations and Lessons learned:
    * This issue began slowly, with freezes sometimes happening hours apart from one another, however it accelerated quickly. Now sometimes only mere seconds after logging in, my keyboard is frozen and sometimes the keyboard is even frozen at boot time, so that start up modifiers are not even recognized!
    * Zapping PRAM helps, sometimes, but only for a short period of time.
    * No other traditional Mac fix seems to affect the issue (repair permissions, etc.)
    * The issue occurs regardless of whether or not any peripheral devices are attached to the system.
    Perhaps unrelated, but interesting (and new!) to note:
    * The Bluetooth menu item reports that "Bluetooth: Not available", the Bluetooth System Preference pane is not visible, and System Profiler reports that "No information found" about Bluetooth.
    ---- END CLIP ----
    I've yet to try resetting the SMC, or doing a clean install, but from the copious amounts of users who reported similar errors in the threads I linked at the start of this post, those options only sound marginally hopeful.
    Some of these issues (like the weird eject key suddenly firing on its own) have been present for a little under a week, but the freezing is brand new. The only system-wide change I've made in the last week was installed the MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1, which was successful (verified in System Profiler; my boot ROM version reads as MBP31.0070.B07).
    So mostly I want to know if anyone else using OS X 10.5.2 is also experiencing this problem. Also, though I'm grateful I could actually use my built-in keyboard to type this message (even with occasional missed keyboard presses, GRRR!!!) my only reliable workaround is an external keyboard. Which is a decidedly annoying thing indeed.
    Help?!?
    Thanks!
    -Meitar Moscovitz
    P.S. AUGH! Just as I was typing that last sentence the keyboard froze again! So I'm actually finishing typing this post via a VNC session. So, so, so so frustrating!

    I wanted to post once again with additional information just in case someone else is also having similar problems. Unfortunately, I'm almost certain that this is probably bad firmware or bad hardware, not a software issue at this stage. Here's why.
    KERNEL PANIC! Take a look at the backtrace and you can clearly see that the Trackpad is to blame. Also, in the system configuration report, not the boot ROM version string, which indicates that I have indeed updated to the latest firmware provided by the recent release of MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1.
    Here's the Kernel Panic log and system configuration I reported to Apple:

  • 5k retina display - scroll not working with Safari (both magic mouse and trackpad)

    Hi,
    suddenly my trackpad and magic mouse stopped working with scrolling (most annoying one) and other gestures.
    I recently bought the iMAC 5K retina display and was not expecting this by any means...
    I have a ton of tabs open on safari and simply "refuse" to try the old windows way of rebooting the machine...
    I have to use the arrow keys to scroll down... this is insane
    could you please advise? am I missing something?
    many thanks

    Just found out the reason I couldn't get the two to play nicely. I had connected my keyboard and trackpad using a "Magic Wand" which looked great. Unfortunately the magic wand had a connecting piece to fill in the gap between the two pieces and this was preventing the little pads underneath the trackpad clicking. So I can only guess that because the trackpad couldn't click it thought it was stuck and therefore also locked up the mouse. I've remove the connector and both pieces work perfectly together!

  • Trackpad gestures in Safari for Windows

    Basically I'm one of those mac users who still has just 1 windows pc left and it's become a bit mac already. I'm running windows 7 and primarily use it for software that doesn't run on a mac, or games that myself and my nephew play from time to time.
    I bought a magic trackpad that I also use with my macbook air, and decided to tinker with it on my PC. I was able to extract the bootcamp drivers from the apple patch and I'm currenctly using it on my windows pc just fine. But it only works for basic gestures, I can use it as a standard mouse trackpad, or I can use 2 finger scrolling in safari or other applications. But other gestures do not work, if I try to use a 3 finger swipe like I do on my macbook to go backwards or forwards, my magic trackpad just locks up and I have to unplug my bluetooth adapter and plug it back in for it to work.
    When paired with my macbook air, I am able to use all those gestures that normally work for scrolling, page forward/back, etc. But on the PC, only the simple mouse pointer and 2 finger scrolling work. Does anyone know if the other gestures on magic trackpad (or even the integrated trackpad) work properly via bootcamp on Windows 7? I never mess with bootcamp, so I can't tell if this is a limitation with the device and apple's drivers, or just something that I have done wrong and need to tweak.
    So basically, can you use gestures with an integrated trackpad or magic trackpad when using windows or not? Has anyone at lease been able to successfully get the basic forward/back swipe to work on windows 7 with the magic trackpad?

    The pinch-to-zoom gesture has not worked since I updated to Lion.  Occasionally when I attempt to use this feature in Safari the webpage becomes pixelated and all I can do is or open a new tab or window.  It happened a lot more frequently when I first updated which was frustrating, but it has stopped happening as often and is more of a random annoyance.  Even so, I used the pinch to zoom in/out gesture a lot with my 13" MBP now it's really just a hassle to do most anything online.  The ⌘ -/+ is functional, however not optimal.  Really frustrated, I was hoping that there was a solution..

  • Odd trackpad gesture issues

    It always starts when I tap with two fingers to zoom in to read articles. It wouldn't zoom, and everything stops working. Scrolling doesn't work. Going back to previous page doesn't work. Clicking on back button on the top left corner doesn't work either... It's stuck on the current webpage. Entering a new address will not take me anywhere either. It just stays on the same page. If I restart Safari, everything seems to work fine until I use gestures like zoom and going back to previous page (scrolling works). Gestures work on other applications though. It only happens on Safari. If I restart the computer, Safari works fine. But eventually the problem comes back somehow.
    I talked to someone at Apple store, and he recommended replacing my trackpad, which will cost around $140... Do I really have to replace the trackpad? I also have Snow Leopard on a different partition, and all the gestures work flawlessly. Furthermore, like I mentioned above, I'm only having issues with the gestures on Safari. Is there any other solution to this other than replacing the trackpad?
    I have a 2010 MacBook pro.

    If a repair tech who actually examined your trackpad said you do, why don't you believe him/her?  No one here can answer as we do not physically have access to your MBP to examine or perform diagnostic testing.  The only thing I can recommend is that you check out KB Article: CLICKY CLICK---> http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1248 Intel-based Apple Portables: Troubleshooting unresponsive trackpad issues

    Are you saying that the trackpad works in other browsers as well as in the Finder & offline?
