Missing Session Variable After Redirect

For some reason my session variable has suddenly stopped
storing across my redirect. Can anyone please tell me what's going
on?

Ha ha, how lame of me. My issue had nothing to do with the
code above. There was an error following this code on the landing
page which was being caught. A full two days of stressing because a
variable was named instance.ven_address1 instead of
instance.ven_address. YES, one character in a maze of code.
LMAO!!

  • Need session variable after inserting a record.

    I have a page where I am setting up a new user.  After they enter their username, password, address etc. I am inserting the record when they press the commit button, then moving on to the next page.
    I have a session variable setup called user_name, which is also the name of the field in my table.
    My problem is that the value in my session variable goes away after inserting the record.  How do I retrieve the value of user_name?
    At the top of my 2nd page I have:
    <?php
         session_start();
         $_SESSION['user_name'] = $_POST['user_name'];
    ?>
    This gives me an index error.
    I also have session_start(); at the top of my first page.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    I figured it out by moving the variable assignment right before the redirect to the next page.

  • Missing session variables and multiple CFID/CFTOKEN

    We are using ColdFusion 9.0.1 and have recently started to experience some sporadic behavior in our applications. These applications have worked without error for over 6+ years and have not been modified during this time.
    Over the past couple of weeks, we have been receiving calls in regards to users not being able to login and receiving errors when performing various actions.  We have put troubleshooting measures in place that display values when this occurs.
    We have noticed that when the errors occur, there are multiple CFID/CFTOKEN COOKIE values. Additionally, session variables are being dropped (during simple tasks such as going from one screen to the next).  These errors do not occur for the majority of users and have primarily occurred in Internet Explorer, but we have had some instances in other browsers.  In most instances, if the user switches browsers, the same application works fine for them.
    In one particular case, we have a <cfif> tag in the application.cfm file that checks for “session.user_id”.  If it doesn’t exist, the user is directed to a login page using the <cflocation> tag. When experiencing the problem, users are continuously going back to the login screen because the system is saying that the session variable does not exist.
    When working with one user who was experiencing this problem, we were able to remedy the problem by adding “addtoken=’yes’” to the cflocation tag.  ** We do not prefer to do this for security reasons.
    Rather than go through each application and try to “band-aid” each instance that occurs, can anybody offer some suggestions on why this behavior recently began and how we may be able to globally address it?

    My immediate guess is that there is faulty logic in the code that updates the value of session.user_id. Apparently, one of the following scenarios might be happening.
    Coldfusion creates a session, X, say. Session.user_id is as yet undefined, so ColdFusion cflocates the user to the login page. The user logs in, still within session X. His session.user_id is set.
    Suppose, for whatever reason (and I know of at least two), the session drops. The user's very next request will make ColdFusion to create a new session, Y, say. Under session Y, the variable session.user_id, which corresponded to session X, will no longer exist. So ColdFusion cflocates the user to the login page. This cycle will of course repeat if left uncorrected.
    Another possible scenario is that the variable session.user_id is not set at all, or is set in the context of a new session. I am assuming that the login page is a form. Then login validation occurs at the action page of the form. Presumably the variable session.user_id is set at this action page. If so, then perhaps ColdFusion fails to set this variable, or a new session is created as the request goes from the login-form page to the action page.
    The 2 main reasons why a session drops are 1) it times out, 2) a new request starts a new session. Hence the following suggestions.
    1) Is your sessionTimeout value low, say, just a few minutes? If so, increase it to 20 minutes.
    2) Remember that the default behaviour of ColdFusion is to start a new session at every request. Use cflogin and cfloginuser together with loginStorage="session". Cflogin executes only if there is no logged in user, irrespective of the session. Therefore, getAuthUser() is a better authentication test than session.user_id.
    3) Use Application.cfc in place of Application.cfm. In particular, the CFC offers you more fine-grained control over the beginning and end of sessions.

  • Login Session Variable Problem

    I've created a simple login using the inbuilt DW suite, but I don't seem to be able to display the session variable after they login.
    On the success page it should filter the RS based on the Username and also display the Username etc on the page but nothing is shown. I tested the success page in DW and entered a value for the session var and it works fine, all I can think of is that the session is empty, not coming through, but I'm clueless.
    Any ideas?

  • Edit session value after login

    I would like to edit the session value of a session that is set after a user logs in.
    Problem:
    I have a field 'date of birth' in my database: yyyy-mm-dd, but i need the age value instead in the session.
    I know how to calculate this but that is not the question, i need to know where to edit this value so that after a login the session is set to the age of the user instead of his/her date of birth value from the database.
    I hope you understand.
    Can someone please help me out...
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,
    <br />
    <br />nope, Adobe/Interakt are not participating here.
    <br />
    <br />However, I do *think* that converting these values *upon* login seems quite weird to do -- ADDT´s session variables are based on the "as is" contents of DB table fields, and what you´re asking for is a very special usage scenario which was even never asked for in the Interakt forums, so that´s why assumingly other forum particpants reading this keep scratching their heads as well.
    <br />
    <br />The only approach I can suggest for now, is to convert the session variables *after* login, and that´s quite easily possible -- on that very page that´s going to display the banner, it should be possible to initialize the abovementioned "calculate age from birthday" conversion routine and assign the session variable "current_age" to the PHP variable "$birthday_user", e.g. $birthday_user = $_SESSION['current_age'];
    <br />
    <br />Once you have this clearly assigned, all you´d have to do is to apply a "Show IF conditional region" that´s checking against the $birthday_user value, e.g.
    <br />
    <br /><?php<br />// Show IF Conditional region_check_user_age<br />if ($birthday_user < 20) {<br />?>
    <br />display banner for folks under 20
    <br /><?php<br />// else Conditional region_check_user_age<br />} else { ?>
    <br />display banner for folks older than 20
    <br /><?php }<br />// endif Conditional region_check_user_age<br />?>
    <br />
    <br />As the line breaks in the code posted above will most likely disappear as before, I´m attaching a text-only version

  • Need Help With Redirect That Uses Session Variable

    I am new to dynamic sites, php, and developer toolbox, but I have been able to create a login site using the different form wizards fairly easily (in CS3 with Developers toolbox).
    <br />
    <br />I am trying to set a server behavior on a page that redirects the user to a new page if a session variable matches a recordset.
    <br />
    <br />I was using an extension (PHP Sessions - http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&amp;extid=681308 ) that worked great, but when I installed developers toolbox, it stopped working (get error message about runtime/MX environment).
    <br />
    <br />Ive been struggling for days and this is what Ive come up with so far:
    <br />------------------------------------
    <br />session_start();
    <br />if (!isset($HTTP_SESSION_VARS[$_SESSION['kt_firstname']]) || $HTTP_SESSION_VARS[$_SESSION['kt_firstname']] = $row_Recordsetfname['firstname']) {
    <br /> header ("Location: ../firstname/firstname1.php");
    <br />}
    <br />------------------------------------
    <br />
    <br />It redirects regardless of the match. Any ideas on what I can do to get this working? Here is all of the code (with block from above inserted) up until the doc type:

    Hi All,
    I am trying to redirect to a new application (WD ABAP) from an existing BSP View by using
    CALL METHOD runtime->server->response->redirect( url = lv_url1 ).
    The session still exists in SM04 after redirecting but I want the BSP session be closed.
    Any pointers to how this can be done??
    "navigation" global object is not recognized in the View it seems because I was thinking of using

    navigation->response_complete().
    but it gave complie errors.
    Awaiting your suggestions..

  • Problem in session variables

    hi ,
    Is it not correct to assume that ones we close the browser the session losts and all the session variables also?
    Actually i have design an authentication page which takes userid and password from user and supply this to servlet which after authentication sets a variable "validity" in session to true.
    And in every other jsp page first i m checking this variableis true or not if not then i m redirecting it to authentication page with this tag
    <jsp:forward page="authentication.jsp" />
    now if i have authenticated correctly and close browser and try to access other pages directly then browser allows me to access any page and infact when i print "validity" variable from session then it prints true. That means even after closing the browsing session remains.
    I tried to print session id then after opening a new browser it is showing the same browser.
    In web.xml file i have mentioned the session time to 60 minutes . Is it because of this?. If it then how these standard sites sun, yahoo maintains session time out as well as browser dependent session.
    Right now what i have to do is before setting the variable i have reset the variable to null. But wher shud i reset the validity variable . in destroy method?
    manish

    Your problem is not due to session time out in the xml
    file.
    I think whenever you close your browser the session
    does not exists.
    Remember to invalidate the session while logging off.
    It should workThat is not true. The session will exist for as long as the session timout option is set. Although invalidating the session at logoff is a good idea, there is no real method to force people to log off when the leave your site/close the browser.
    There are a couple of possibilities why the session would still be used after a browser is closed, although normal behavior is to create a new one. The main reason is because the cookie on the browser that maintains the jsessionid is not destroyed. This often occurs in browsers like NS 7 with a "quick-load" app running in the taskbar area (next to the clock). These little parts of the application never close, and hold on to browser cache and cookies, so as to make it quicker to open and surf.
    How do you ge around this? I do not know, except perhaps by preventing the session from using cookies for tracking...

  • Checking session variables

    I have an external login service that I'm using to authenticate users.  After logging in, I get an XML file from which I can pull things like user ID and rights.
    The login page redirects to an index page in another folder (which is protected by the authentication service) and on that page, I have a <cfif> statement that looks at rights.
    The rights returned are "J" (for judge) and "A" (for admin), which I'm setting as the session variable: session.rights
    If I do this:
    <cfif session.rights eq "A">
    admin section
    <cfelseif session.rights eq "J">
    judge section
    <cfelse>
    redirect to the login page
    </cfif>
    The else is what triggers.  If I cfoutput #session.rights# I get J, but for some reason, J does not equal J.  I've tried trimming it and everything, to no avail.
    Any ideas?

    Yeah, I've trimmed everything everywhere, to no avail.

  • Trouble with session variables

    Hello, I am a user of cf for a number of years, but only
    lately as of last week have I had the opportunity to work with CF
    8.... wow the changes are quite intimidating. But none the less
    press on is my thought, so now my trouble. Thing I did was to start
    using application.cfc vs application.cfm, as it would appear that
    is how things have come to pass. So I looked around and found this
    code to set session management:
    <cfcomponent output="false" hint="Handles application
    level events.">
    <!--- Set up the application. --->
    <cfset THIS.Name = "AppCFC" />
    <cfset THIS.ApplicationTimeout = CreateTimeSpan( 0, 0, 60,
    0 ) />
    <cfset THIS.SessionManagement = true />
    <cfset THIS.SetClientCookies = false />
    <CFSET request.dsn = "wlaw" />
    </cfcomponent>
    My problem is that while I can define a session variable on a
    page that is not under the SSL cert, my session vars become
    undefined once I land on a page under SSL.
    Am I missing something? I dont recall this being a problem in
    the past. All help is appreciated.
    as to setting the var, it is done on an index page which
    calls another page in a different directory, but under the same
    server,.
    <cfset session.ref="foo">
    the only changes are that the result page or action page if
    you prefer is now under the ssl and the var becomes undefined.
    thank you in advance
    Mike Dooly

    is the object being put in session context serializable.. Also in
              other to avoid any generated classes issues delete all the classes
              whcih weblogic generates as part of deploying the application. That
              should atleast mitigate one explanation for your problem.
              Hope this helps

  • Jsp session variable in javascript

    hi,
    i want use a jsp session variable inside a javascript code, for this i am using the following function,
    function checkList()
    <% String ecode1=(String)session.getAttribute("e_numb"); %>
    var code=<%=ecode1%>
    alert (code)
    this is showing an error can any one please help me,
    thanks
    saurabh

    You have ',%String ecode1' within the javascript. JSP will not recognize 'String' as a java class unless you import the String class. Something like <%@ page import = "java.util.* " %> Incorrect. String is part of java.lang, which is always imported into a java class.
    Most probably what is missing in the javascript is
    - missing quotes ? Not sure if this value is meant to be interpreted as a number or not.
    - missing semicolon
    function checkList()
    <% String ecode1=(String)session.getAttribute("e_numb"); %>
    var code="<%=ecode1%>";
    alert (code);
    }Lets assume that the value of e_numb is "42"
    after running this as a jsp, it should produce the following on the resulting html page. You can see it by viewing the source.
    function checkList()
    var code="42";
    alert (code);
    }Check that to see it has produced valid javascript

  • Cannot get session variables

    Hello to all.
    I am developing a shopping cart application in which I use to store some session variables in session object.
    The problem arise when I integrate paypal with my application.
    I use following code to redirect to the paypal's site
    baseURL="https://www.sandbox.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_express-checkout&token="+ack+"&ITEM_NAME="+itmName+"&ITEM_NUMBER="+itnSrNo+"&ITEM_AMT="+paymentAmount;
    response.sendRedirect(baseURL);When I return from the paypal's site my all session variables are nulled.
    I read somewhere that "response.sendRedirect()" method kills the session.
    So, please somebody suggest me the alternatives of this method so that I cannot lose my session.
    Thank You

    It is not true. response.sendRedirect() don't kills session at all.

    When I return from the paypal's site my all session variables are nulled.When you go to PayPal and return to your actual webapp, It might take longer then your session-timeout configuration in web.xml.
    Side effect of this is when you come back to your webapp, session which you left behind before moving to PayPal got expired and you are dealing with new session now.
    Increasing session timeout configuration in web.xml might help you. You can also cross check session status by method session.isNew() when you return from PayPal.+Thanks a lot.
    You are write my session might expires after returning from the paypals site and I used setMaxInactiveInterval and its working
    Thanks again.

  • Session variable help

    I have a members section which when a member logs in sets a
    "session.loggedin" variable equal to 1. On the intial page after
    the user logs in I have a link which takes them out of the member
    directory and to another page in the root folder of the site. The
    session variable works fine when I am on the intial member page and
    throughout the members area but when I try to use it on the page in
    the root folder it doesnt work. Tells me the session variable does
    not exist.
    Can some one please explain why this is? I didn't create the
    site originally, so I am wondering if there is something I am
    missing.
    Thanks

    "A session refers to all the connections that a single client
    might make to a server in the course of viewing any pages
    associated with a given application." Your application.cfm at the
    root has a name of store and the application one level down has a
    name of Members. This is two different applications as indicated by
    MikerRoo and won't work the way you want it to.

  • Session variables is not recognized in my CFC

    Hi,
    I got a very weird problem today! I have created a simple
    login page ( username as an email and a password). This is post to
    the same page where I verify from a query if the username and
    password are valid. Once the query returns a RecordCount greater
    than 0, I create session variables to store the first name and last
    name of the user. I can see actually the session variables from a
    CFDUMP at that level.
    Since I am developping an application that will mix
    ColdFusion (mostly CFC) and Flex 3, I have created a CFC where I
    store functions needed for the Flex application. One of the
    function is fGetUserInfo where I try to collect the information I
    previously store in the session scope from the login - such as the
    first name. The system stop right there with an error saying that
    the session variables are not defined while I have the session
    variables appear at the bottom of the debug information in the same
    page. This is starting to be over my knowledge and I must missing
    an information to resolve this - in other words, I need your
    help!!!
    I include some code to understand that the problem is not a
    mispelling!!! ;-))

    I tried to change the savings of the user's information into
    cookies instead of the session scope but it does the exact same
    error (except it says Element TECHNICIANID is undefined in COOKIE).
    In fact, after a little break, I started to think about the
    method to access the functions inside the CFC. As it is remote, I
    though that it might have a sense of no life on the session scope.
    Than I though about the idea to transfer all the informations to
    the client with Cookie. CFCOOKIE work fine and I was kind of
    animated by my idea! I coded, I tried and it failed. I used at
    first the default value of the CFCOOKIE which consists to reside on
    the memory like a session but disapear when the user close his/her
    browser. So after the first fail I change the expiration for 30
    minutes but it failed again and for the same reason: Element
    TECHNICIANID is undefined in COOKIE.
