Mission Control Crashing? This solution worked for me
The first OS I used from Apple was Panther. Since then, I have had 3 machines and I never did a fresh install. I simply upgraded from one release to the next.
I never had any issue, but with Lion, things were different.
Lion installation process is full of rough edges and I lost many tweaks I have done on my OSX all these years, several icons were missing on Finder, several apps missing from the Dock and Mission Control was not working after the installation.
I banged my head on the wall for 24h until I found the culprit and Apple should test this better.
Here is the solution that worked for me.
The first test you should do is this:
1) create another user on your system
2) login to that user and see if Mission Control works there
3) if it works, congratulations and welcome to my private club: the Mission Control Crashers Club.
If MC works on the other user, the problem is with your account. So, continue reading this...
Do you have experience dealing with terminal and unix?
If you open a terminal window and type
cd ~ (enter)
ls -al .* (enter)
you will see a list of all invisible files and directories that are stored on your home directory.
look at the names and dates you see there. In my case I have located files and directories created in 2008 (on another mac I don't even have anymore) and I also saw files and directores belonging to apps I have removed a long time ago.
look at each file or directory that starts with a point (= invisible).
if you locate a file you want to remove, type
rm .aaa
where aaa is the file name
if it is a directory, type
rm -r .bbb
where bbb is the directory name
when you feel you have removed all the old crap, log out and login again.
Try Mission Control and Dashboard then.
OBVIOUSLY, MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE REMOVING ANYTHING. DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
In my case, the problem was solved.
Thanks for taking the time to come back and let us know - it is valuable to see when a fix has worked for someone.

Thunderbird Mission Control Desktop/AutoConfig not working for some users
I have the file: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\defaults\pref\custom.js"
It contains:
pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0);
pref("general.config.filename", "TMcustom.cfg");
I have the file: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\TMcustom.cfg"
It contains:
var promptService = Components.classes["@mozilla.org/embedcomp/prompt-service;1"]
.getService(Components.interfaces.nsIPromptService);
promptService.alert(null, "title", "testing");
For most of my users the alert pops up fine when I start Thunderbird, but for a few it doesn't. All of the machines where setup with the same install script. If I log into one of the machines where it's not working as a different user, then it works fine, so I know the files are in the right spot. So why would it not work for specific users? Is there something in the user's Windows profile that could cause it to not work? Or are there any other suggestions? As it turns out this was a known bug that was corrected in the recent release of Java 7_65 and Java 8_11. Here is a link to the bug description in the database.

Audigy 2 ZS Distortion Issues With Vista - See if this solution works for you guys
First of All Creative - It's sad, really sad that you really haven't supported your customers. As such a big maker of excellent products, I'm disappointed to know that you have barely provided driver support to your customers. I've been buying Creative products since 1997 - Also - I purposely upgraded my sound card on my Hp Media Center to an Audigy 2 ZS. Secondly - I formatted my computer and re-installed Vista. Before that, the sound card i.e. the sound worked fine (after a lot of trial and errors with different drivers, i somehow managed to get it working without Snap, Crackle and Pop Issues. In other words, I experienced distorted playback when I first installed Vista. Now that I re-installed Vista - Everything installed but as usual - only issue: Yup, you guessed it right.
Creative Audigy 2 ZS Infamous Snap Crackle Pop (SCP) I did try k_daniels drivers and even though I applaud for his efforts - unfortunately it didn't work for me but i'm sure they would if you did the following - ) Uninstall all Creative Drivers Using Driver Sweep2) Do not install the driver through Windows Update (did not work for me)3) Install latest drivers from Creative or K_Daniel's Package4) Install Vista Codec Pack5) Install DirectX06) Then do the following: Got this sorted. Hope it works for everyone..found the answer searching Google.
Right click VOLUME icon in taskbar
Click PLAYBACK DEVICES
Right click SPEAKERS
Click PROPERTIESClick ADVANCED Make sure there's no tick marks in any of the options there including ENHANCEMENTS.
This should sort it. [After doing all this, I have no sound issues whatsoever - Crystal Clear Audio Quality but still not better then XP] I am planning to try K_Daniels pack with all the extra applications and I'll post later on in regards to my experience with the pack. Good Luck P.S: Hope this helps somebody because doing all that helped me get back the audio clarity I was looking for without any distortion whatsoever.Hi xmins
Im not using a decoder, only an amplifier alone with two speakers ... My cable is plugged in line out , and then plugged on line in of the amplifier.
The distortion is very audible, in HL 2, Battlefield 2, etc
When got a explosion, a shot from shotgun, missile, the sound comes distorted ...
Any more hints? -
Does anyone know if this would work for the S10?
http://bensbargains.net/deal/91668/
It's made by Super Talent, San Jose, CA. Thanks!

Solved!
Go to Solution.ok, that's better. while non-ECC memory supposedly works in the S10, i believe it's set up to normally accept ECC memory. also keep in mind that if combining memory, you can't use non-ECC with ECC as the S10 won't boot past POST.
part of the benefits of having a proper workstation is error checking. in my opinion ECC memory is the best way to go, even if non-ECC memory works.

Will this battery work for my laptop?
I have a laptop from like 2009. It's going to crap and I recently got a new one, but it still runs, albeit slowly on startup and everything, and I think it's because of the battery, as it says "Consider Replacing Battery" and when I unplug the charger it just shuts off, and it only charges to 51%. So what I want to know is will this battery work for my laptop? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007W1QBO4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AF7ENLFPN87DK
The battery right now says "Replace with HP Spare 593550-001 and says 2010/10. This battery says 593553-01, but it looks almost identical to my current battery. So will this get the job done?Hi,
What is the model of your computer ? (HP 2000 is a series, not a model). Please check the compatible list:
http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=593553-001
By the way, slow booting up may not due to weak/faulty battery. Can it boot faster using AC ?
Regards.

Here's a positive thing: Windows viruses can't run on OS X, but they can be transferred from OS X to other PCs (only if you have them on the OS X volume).

You could get a virus from a different source that infected Steam and Chrome without any problem. Viruses normally try to infect as many files and programmes as possible.

HT1925 This didnt work for me.
This didnt work for me. I tried with all types of browsers and it didnt give me a download option. It shows a 'thnkyou' page instead!!!! To make it work, i had to manually type the itunes download url, "http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes11/041-9795.20130220.Xde43/iTunesSetup.exe".
When I click download , the exe URL comes at the bottom. I took a print screen quickly and typed it directly JThis is why a backup is a must in every computer user's arsenal.
As for older Javas, they are insecure. Contact the vendor who wrote the game and ask for an update. -
I brought a iPhone (A1429) unlocked, sent it as a gift to my mate in Arizona, she is on the Verizon Network which in CDMA Will this phone work for her or have I just wasted $900 :/ I have done all the research and to me it looks like it should work.
Can anyone give me a difintive answer please.Yes but I have brought the A1429 where as the information you provided states that it's the A1428.
The unlocked iPhone 5 is model A1428. For details on LTE support see www.apple.com/iphone/LTE. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint. Learn more about the unlocked iPhone
And Apple websight also states that the A1429 is both CDMA and GSM here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939#iPhone5 -
After downloading Maverick on the MacBook Pro that I bought in 2011, I am unable to open iPhoto. The message says "You can't use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X. You have "iPhoto" 9.2.3" What??? That is ridiculous. Why doesn't Maverick download everything? I've tried the "fixes" I found on this forum, but none of them work for me, because there is no workaround via the library. I can't access the library.
I have an old iPhoto version and it still works with Mavericks, the version before yours, that is puzzling.

I have recently bought two 2.8 GHz i7 iMacs each with 16gb ram. One is flawless the second ALWAYS crashes upon using mission control EVERY time. Whether we use the double tap on the magic mouse, the 2 finger swipe, or press the icon in the dock does not matter - it crashes every way. To make this long story short, i tried many ways to fix this problem with no success. Finally, today, i FULLY erased the Macintosh HD and reformatted it. Then i reinstalled osx Lion. I did software update all the way to the new 10.7.4 and guess what? Mission control still crashes EVERY TIME. There is nothing on this iMac except as it ships from Apple and it can't operate mission control without crashing. Thus, i can rule out a conflict from my home folder or some older application conflicting with the new system. I need help, i am at wit's end and this is a work machine. Productivity is being lost.
Is there a solution?I can´t use the gestures to change spaces or to open die Mission Control or my Launchpad ... This now happens every time I use my Macbook after a couple of time ... half an hour .. or .. hour ... don´t know ...the only other programs I have in use are iTunes, Numbers, Pages, Safari, Thunderbird and sometimes Adium and Skype ...

OS X Mavericks mission control crash
Since switching to Mavericks I'm experiencing about 3 crashes per working day. The crash always occurs when I flip over to mission control to switch between full screen apps / desktops. Aside from apple apps (mail, safari, calendar, contacts, etc), I'm typically just working with a few excel worksheets. Running a mid 2010 MBP - first time I've consitently had crash issues. Anyone else experiencing this?
I've been experiencing the same problem ever since updating to Mavericks: after the seventh time or so that I access mission control my computer crashes. I've discarded the problem having anything to do with the fact that I've a SSD+HDD setup since after browsing diferent discussions this seems to happen to users with default setup. I've reset de SMC but no use. This is what Etrecheck has come up with after running it:

Any idea of what might be causing crash when in mission control? -
I have installed Lion a few moments ago.
Mission Control is not working. It crashes every time and I see the following message on console:
20/07/11 19:11:41,991 com.apple.dock.extra: Could not connect the action buttonPressed: to target of class NSApplication
I have deleted the com.apple.dock.* files but the problem persists.
How do I solve that?

Dictation interferes with Mission Control - MC shortcuts stop working
I just started using dictation about a week ago, and, although it works great, it seems to be interfering with the Mission Control shortcuts (F9, F10, etc.). The shortcuts just stop working, often after Dictation shows some stuttering (short episodes of freezing, or an inability to switch languages). They never malfunction when I don't use Dictation. After restarting the dock with osascript -e 'quit application "Dock"' everything functions normally, but it gets annoying when you have to do that 10 or more times a day. Does anybody know what's going on or maybe have a fix?
Specs:
27" iMac, late 2009
Processor 3,06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
OS version OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
I should probably also mention that I'm using enhanced dictation, and that I've loaded two languages, English and German. When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough. It is never necessary or helpful to post more than about 100 lines. "The more, the better" is not the rule here.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. -

Our company is running Exchange 2007, OWA enabled, EWS is setup, Auto discovery is enable. The only thing I haven't got an answer on is whether Service Pack 4 has been installed. The server is set up with a domain specified but I don't know where to include that in the Mail Account Setup. Mail seems to be locating the server fine but it says username or password can not be verified. I can only assume that it's because I haven't included the domain correctly.
iPad (and I assume iPhone/iTouch) have a field in their setup to include the domain and a coworker is connecting fine with to the company server. Where is it in Mail? I have tried to prepend it to my username (domain/username) but it hasn't worked. I can't recall all the variations I have tried of this, but unless I have the domain first in the username field, Mail won't even connect to the server. I've been all over these boards and dozens more and I can't find any answers to this problem.
Any here have any ideas? Thanks,
Mike D

I already read that one and it fails to address the domain question, but thank you for the suggestion.

Bump.
I still haven't found an answer to this. Anyone else have any ideas. Still waiting to hear back from out IT guys about the service pack issues.
Is there any way to attach a screen grab to a post? Thought it might help paint the picture in case I haven't stated it clearly.
Again, thanks in advance for any help with this.

Hi. I'm having precisely the same problem. My Exchange account works like a charm on my iPhone, but all permutations of the same settings simply don't work in OS X Mail (v. 4.3).
Has anyone out there set up an Exchange account with a domain? Can you tell us where you put it to get the account to work?
Thanks!2.0 GHz MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Enter your username as:
<domain>\<username>
This is standard practice for Microsoft if there's no place to enter the domain name.

Thanks Asatoran. That turned out to be part of the solution for me. The other part was changing the port I used for the SSL connection -- it was set wrong at some point, either because the default was wrong, or because I forgot I had changed it in troubleshooting before trying the slash the way you suggest. Anyway, the port number for some reason doesn't show up on my iPhone settings, so it didn't occur to me to tweak it.2.0 GHz MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.4), 4GB RAM

Hi!
Could you please state the port numer you changed from and to?
I´m having the same problem and still can´t access the exchange server outside the company network.
But it seems like Mail 4.3 tryes to use the internal server and never the external? Any tips on this?MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

<domain>\<username> worked for me... FINALLY!!
Thanks muchMacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4), iMacQuit your mail entirely, then in terminal do:
mv ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope* ~/Desktop
This moves all your "Envelope Index*" files to your desktop. An alternative is deleting the files, but this allows you to keep them as a temporary back-up (you can delete them at-will later). Also, you can move the files from Finder instead of Terminal, if you prefer.
After the files have been moved, re-open Mail
This should re-load all your email messages, updating/restoring the count
While this works, it does not explain the reason the count goes missing, nor does it ensure that the count won't go missing again in the future, but at least it's a temporary workaround.
