Mission Control second monitor...

Hello!
In Snow leopard expose showed all the windows even if I used a second monitor I could see all windows in my first screen!
Now in Lion I only see the acual windows at the actual monitor...
There is a problem with that... if I don´t have the second monitor on and a software window is placed on that second monitor I can't see it... I have to start the second monitor or get into double screen!
Please help if there is a solution for that!
/ Jan

Hi Bansaku,
Sorry to hear you're in the same boat. At least we don't have to suffer in silence : )
I'm also the same with desktop pictures being messed up (I also wish they'd let us rename each Desktop e.g. Photoshop, Mail, Safari etc).
I don't tend to restart my Mac that often, but overtime I do, my spaces are all are of sync.
Is there any easy way to report this problem to Apple?
Thanks!

  • Possible for JRockit Mission Control to Monitor Multiple Web Applications

I have some questions regarding JRockit and Weblogic Server.
The JRockit Mission Control allows users to monitor JRockit JVMs.
If a JVM runs a Weblogic server instance which runs a couple of web aplications, is it possible to monitor individual web applications separately?
If it's possible, is there any kind soul who can guide me through the process in setting up.
    Please assist. Many Thanks!
    Thanks,
    Benjamin

    Hi,
You can use *"wlnav.war"* which is freely available on net. to monitor Servers along with some of the Application attributes like application state/ Session count/ ...etc
"wlnav.war" actually uses WebLogic MBeans to get the details of the Server and Applications...Same thing we can do using our own MBean JMX Codes as well... But still these JMX codes will not be able to tell exactly that which object belongs to which Application.
    Thanks

  • Mission Control Dual Monitors moving windows between desktops

So far I like the new Mission Control however I am having what I beleive to be an issue.
I have a dual monitor setup and multiple Desktops configured. If I want to move a window from Primary Monitor Desktop 1 to Primary Monitor Desktop 2 it works but if I want to move a window from Primary Monitor Desktop 1 to Secondary Monitor Desktop 2 it will not let me. I have to do the move in two steps. First I have to move it to Primary Monitor Desktop 2 and then from there I can move it to Secondary Monitor Desktop 2 ?
Please can someone verify this ? Is this a limitation or a bug ?

Hehe, Linux+Compiz rulezzz. You can tweak it the way YOU need and not Apple think you should do 'cause they "just knows better what market needs"
My ideal setup on Linux workstation was: 2 Graphics Cards, 4 Monitors, 2 of them fixed, so I could put there applications and windows which should be permanently seen, for example -- Zenoss monitoring dashboard (screen 1) and stocks tickers (screen 2)
Screen 3 and 4 respectively were part of the Compiz Cube with Xinerama activated, e.g. one extra wide desktop across 2 monitors, seen as semi-transparent Cube during transitions between 4 virtual destops, so I could almost immediately see where all my windows are.
And now, Apple, could you tell me, If I've got Mac Pro with 2 Graphics Cards and 4 Monitors, is such a setup feasible with Mission Control?... OK, ok, you don't have such an eycandy as Transparent Compiz Cube, I could survive without, but having simultaneously 2 monitors as part of virtual desktop and 2 others fixed is absolut 'a must have', so, now's your turn... HOW?

  • AD4J vs. Mission Control

Can anybody tell me what I can see more with AD4J than Mission Control. We use Mission Control to monitor our production environment, we do this already more than a year and it was already helpful a lot for us.
In the beginning our WebLogic (or better VM) crashed a lot because of bad memory tuning. After tuning the VM (with help of Oracle consultants) and the code the crashing has disappeared. Then we still had major garbage collects that took more than 40 seconds (stop the world GCs) about 1 every hour. After tuning again, we now have major GCs of maximum 10s (5 a day), 7s (a few every hour), and lots of less than 2 seconds.
Now our question is there a way to see what is happening (at code level) near those 10s GCs because we see these GCs happen near heavy CPU usage of the VM (so we think heavy business logic). Because our application has 20 EJB modules, 400 entity beans and at peak periods near 1000 concurrent users using a Swing client connected to this single WebLogic instance it is complicated to find out what is happening.
The find a solution the local Oracle people suggested we have to use AD4J to find out what is happening. But before we starts evaluating this tool I want to know whether anybody has any experience using and Mission Control and AD4J and how they relate to each other.
    Tnx
    Bjorn

That is true, we did already some recordings this helped the Oracle consultants in the first tunings, but what "triggered" the GCs is not what is causing the heavy CPU activity. Something needs a bit more heap and the GC is started but this is not what the garbage generated.
What I really want to know is there an easy way to follow business logic activity, and so find out hot methods.
    Regards,
    Bjorn

  • How can one use Mission Control with two monitors?  Please bring Spaces back

How can one use Mission Control with two monitors.  With Spaces I could treat each space as a single desktop.
    SyBB

I use two monitors at work and have no issue. I have my mail set to use Desktop 1 and iTunes set to the second monitor of Desktop 1. I have browsers set to Desktop 2 and Fusion and RDC set to Desktop 3.
Two things that may help you. In System Preferences > Mission Control, disable the setting "Automatically rearrange spaces...". This screwed with assigning applications to certain spaces. And the other thing is don't use full screen on apps that support it. This just makes your second monitor superfluous.

  • No zoom level controls on second monitor!

I use a second monitor to display a loupe view of the photo I have selected in the grid view, which is on the first monitor.  I have always had the zoom-level controls (Fit, Fill, etc.) at the bottom of the loupe display on the second moitor, until I replaced my first monitor this week.  Everything else is still the same, but I no longer have the zoom controls on the second monitor.  This means that I cannot change the zoom levels that are availabel to me.  I either have Fit or 100% zoom.  Without the zoom controls on the second monitor I can't change the settings.  Does anyone know how to get the zoom controls back (or why they might have disappeared)?
    Thanks for any help.

Never mind.  I found the problem (the second monitor was in full-screen mode).  Nothing
    to see here.  Keep moving.

  • System monitors that embed/integrate Mission Control

I noticed that Tidal Intersperse integrates Mission Control to assist with low-level monitoring and root cause analysis.
    Can anyone recommend Intersperse?
Does anyone know of any other higher-level monitoring tools (transaction level monitoring, SLA, alerts, etc), that integrate with Mission Control? Any recommendations?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
I believe some versions of Mercury tools (now HP) also integrate with Mission Control. And some development tools like YourKit and JProfiler. Don't have any experience with them, nor with Tidal I'm afraid.
Integration can be done on several levels. The base monitoring capabilities are standards-based on JMX and Remote JMX so any monitoring client that supports these protocols can pull at least some info out of Mission Control. This includes products such as Openview, Unicenter, and Tivoli. However, for full data access the Mission Control GUI is the preferred option.

  • Mission control starts on its own every few seconds to once minute.........very frustrating

I bought a new iMac in August. A few weeks have gone by and my new computer is AWESOME. I just switched from pc and have been very happy. But......yesterday when i turned it on Mission Control would start to turn on randomly every few seconds. It happens all the time now, it really *****, and i have no idea what to do about it. I thought maybe i was activating with magic mouse so i tuned off that feature and it still happens. What should i do?

YES!!!!!! After many hours on the phone with apple (very god customer service, those guys really wanted to help) we determined that the keyboard was the defective. They gave me a replacement at no cost and now my computer works perfect once again. One of the indicators that it was the keyboard was that i couldn't make an upper case e using the shift button. By opening opening up Mac OS X Utillities and having me type in the onlline help section we saw the problem persited and they were able to dertime that it was a hardware problem and not the software, from there all it was was a quick trip to the apple store. Good luck i hope my experiance was helpful.

  • Multiple monitors support in mission control?

I have two monitors, a Wacom Cintiq and my MBP and i want Mission control to interact between the two spaces, not have them work with independent spaces that move together when i make the "swipe" gesture. Either they should SWITCH between spaces depending on which screen i have my cursor on, or they should SCROLL from one monitor to the next..
    thoughts? help?

Do you have 3 displays, 2 monitors+1 MBP display? Are you using the term space to mean the combination of all of your displays, a specific display or something else? I have a MBP and 1 external monitor and I would like to understand what you are saying.

  • Mission Control useless when using multiple monitors

    Background:
From my iMac I'm watching NetFlix on a 2nd TV/Monitor. The movie is playing....   On my iMac I switch to another space.  Bam!  The movie window on the other monitor is gone.
    Conclusion:
Using Mission Control and changing "spaces" does so on all attached monitors. This is not good.
    Need:
There needs to be pref in "monitors" control panel to "exlude monitor from Mission Control" functions.
    Frustration:
Grrrrrrrrrrr!   No more "Mission Control" as long as I'm using more than one monitor.
    What say Ye?

Yes, mission control is a completely abomination on multiple monitors... I use a 4 screen setup, 1 of them is a 140 projector for movies... so i definitely understand what you mean about the movie issue.... MC isvery very limited in what could potential be a step up from Spaces... instead is a step backword...
    1. no way to lock monitors (such as you are talking about with watching a movie)
    2. no way to move windows from one desktop to another... Spaces was great for organization... MC is a very dumbed down version.
    3. Spaces showed all "desktops montitor groups together" where the way MC splits them seems unnatural and odd to me... makes sense on single monitor, but horrible on multi monitors
    4. Full screen apps are worthless with multiple monitors... it should give me the option to do full screen app on EACH monitor... this would definitely ogranization.

  • How can I fix Dock/Mission Control/Launchpad? (Glitch)

    General Description
Mission Control and Launchpad glitch when invoked (whether by using the mouse or trackpad gesture). They seems to crash or quit, and then relaunch themselves (/itself - all the same app?), I know this because:
    they both, as well as Dock, become unresponsive;
    the desktop background images disappear temporarily (being replaced by blank light or dark grey);
    the Mission Control animation stops/freezes and does not execute properly (the windows stay still);
Dock becomes unresponsive as well as Launchpad.
This happens a lot (every other invokation) and seems to be random; it's annoying and is ruining my workflow, since I am a heavy user of multiple desktops.
    Behaviour
I usually have over ten desktops, all with active apps open at one time; when it glitches I can't even open or switch applications, though I can use the ones that are on the current desktop (if was trying to use Mission Control).
There is no correlation with the glitch and the amount of applications open, or how much RAM or CPU is active (still happens with only a few light apps open and a few desktops).
It does not matter whether I am using more than one monitor, the glitch still occurs.
It does not happen due to a particular open application, as I have tested with nothing open at all straight after a restart.
    Possible and tested causes
An application might be corrupting the glitchy app(s), since the disk breaks after being repaired in Safe Boot mode. Once the disk has been repaired, the glitch doesn't seem to occur until a few applications have been opened, though I haven't tested this much. (I am suspecting TheBrain, but not sure. Other potential culprits: Chrome, Mail, Firefox, Spotify, Skype, Dictionary, Activity Monitor, Finder).
It isn't the operating system itself because I have reinstalled it from Safe Boot mode, and yet the glitch persists.
The application(s) affected by the glitch may be corrupted, and need reinstalled - that is, if they weren't already by reinstalling the operating system (they are in the '/System/CoreServices' folder).
    Not-so-possible:
I doubt it is a virus - it would be a pretty pointless glitch for one to cause.
I have Time Machine running most of the time, but I have no reason to believe that is the cause.
I am using a NEET mini display port to HDMI adapter for my second monitor (no idea how that could be causing the issue).
    Help
Any ideas on what I could do to fix this?
And does anyone know how to reinstall Mission Control, Dock and Launchpad (I think they are all part of '/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app')? This might be worth a try.
    Specifications (just in case)
    2010 Macbook Pro
    2.8 GHz Intel i7
    8 GB memory
500 GB HD (two thirds full)
    Thanks for any help!

One thing I'd like for you to try: Create a new user account. Log into the new account and see if the same problems persist.
Many times such crashes are the result of corrupted preference or cache files. The above will eliminate these in the user account but not at the system level. So, I suggest you use a utility such as Lion Cache Cleaner 6.0.11 or Purity 1.10 to clear out cache files at the system level. I've never used the latter software but I, personally, use the former one on my computers.

  • Dock frequently crashes and restarts when entering Mission Control

    Hello,
Long time lurker, first time poster here.  Hoping someone can help me with this issue.
I am running Mac OS X Lion (10.8) on a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 24" iMac with 12 GB RAM.  Peripherals include Apple wired keyboard, Apple Magic Trackpad, Logitech G9x laser mouse, and a Seagate USB External Hard Drive, and an old Dell 17" LCD (E177FP) connected as a second monitor.
Throughout the day, I work with Adobe Photoshop, Abode Indesign, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, BB Edit, Cyberduck, iTunes, Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection, Terminal, Text Edit, Screen Sharing, Microsoft Excel 2011, Microsoft Word 2011, and additional applications across eight desktops in Mission Control (for a total of 16 screens, with the two diaplays).
Approximately 6-12 times a day Mission Control will become unresponsive while entering it, whether by using four-finger swipe up on trackpad, mouse button 4 on Logitech mouse, or control + up arrow on keyboard.  I can still move the mouse cursor, type in applications, and click on applications.  However, the dock relaunches (all of my minimized windows at restored to my screen) and then Mission Control is responsive again.  The window of unavailability is about 10 seconds.
I have used Macs for years now and never before have I had to deal with such a minor (yet frequent) inconvenience.  They have always "just worked."
I am including my most recent crash report and am hoping that someone will have a solution that doesn't involve installing the operating system from scratch.
    Thank you for your time.
    Joe

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Apps not showing up in Mission Control

that is, when I launch such apps as ones of iWork and iLife suites simultaneously. Some  of them are launching very sluggishly (as I posted this in other thread, though related to a different issue), with considerable delay or quitting, I noticed that though an active app indicator shows up, I don't see its main window etc. More recently I noticed that when iPhoto, iMovie and Garage Band are launched simultaneously (with iWork apps), then Mission control displays just iPhoto and iMovie.
I repaired all possible permissions, corrected bad font, reset SMS and PRAM. True, I have 45 GB of free disk space, 4GB of RAM. Maybe it's not enough of memory? But Activity Monitor never showed lack of it. What would you suggest?

    Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • How can I set the default window location in calendar to my second monitor?

After installing Mavericks, Calendar always opens its windowed centered in my main monitor.  I move it to where I want it (upper left, second monitor) but when I quit the program, the location reverts to the original location.  Is there a .plist I need to edit?
    -Jeff

The "quit calendar" fix does not endure after the next logout or restart.
In System Preferences, in the Mission Control Pane, unchecking "Displays have separate spaces" causes the windowing behavior to revert to pre-Mavericks behavior.  Applications open in the previously used window.  Applications with windows on multiple monitors re-open with correctly located windows.  However, all the behavior reverts, so you can't run multiple full screen applications on different monitors, nor is there a tool bar at the top of secondary monitors.

  • 2007 iMac, upgraded to Mavericks, second monitor now intermittently blinking

2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB Ram. ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics.
Upgraded from Snow Leopard here at work, running dual monitors via DVI cable. Never a problem previously.
Upgraded to Mavericks. Enjoying it. Until the 2nd monitor (Acer v223w) started intermittently blinking.
Kinda befuddled. Can't find any answers. Any help?

Same issue here and its really killing me.
When I disconnect the second monitor from the iMac and plug it back in, the blinking stops for a little while. But then it starts up again.
It seems to blink more when I'm using Chrome (latest version 30.x) with multiple browser windows accross both displays.
    iMac 20-inch Early 2008
ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
    Mavericks 10.9
Second monitor HP w2207 connected with DVI cable and adapter.
Under Mission Control system preferences, I have Displays have separate Spaces unchecked, disabling the new Multiple Displays Mavericks feature.
    Hope that hleps.
