Mobile Me wiped out iCal

I was working in iCal on my Macbook Pro and noticed that it started syncing with mobile me. The screen blinked a few times it synced and everything was fine. Then it did it again about 2 minute later and all of my calendar events were gone in iCal, in Mobile Me and on My iPHone.
How can I get the information back into iCal? Is there a backup copy from a previous day filed in my library?
What options do I have? I think the same calendar is on my iMac 24 at home. It is turned off right now, so it has not synced with Mobile Me in a few days.

Disconnect your iMac 24" from the Internet when you start it up. Open iCal and go to File -> Save iCal (I believe that's what it says in English; mine's in French). There you can save your entire iCal data to a backup file.
Since you subscribe to MobileMe, you can also go into your iDisk and download the Backup 3 application. This will allow you to set up a schedule to back up, among many things, your calendar. You can do this on a daily basis if you make lots of changes every day, or maybe a weekly basis if you do not make changes very often.
Unfortunately, it seems like Time Machine doesn't work the same way with iCal as it works with, say, Address Book. In other words, you can't go to a date in iCal and then enter Time Machine to show you what was there as you "go back in time".
You shouldn't rely on your syncing with MobileMe as a backup; as you've seen, a bad sync can quickly remove all your good copies.

  • All past and future iCal data mysteriously wiped out???

I am still in denial, hoping that there is some fix for this:
I just noticed that my iCal calendar was suddenly (in the past hour) blank on my iMac. I had recently synced with my iPad, so checked there, and it was empty there too. I did not do anything special recently with iCal or settings, though I did purchase a few Apps through iTunes today (none of them calendar related). Luckily I also have an iPod Touch and my calendar there was still intact. I thought perhaps I could restore iCal with a sync - I carefully checked to make sure my settings would not lead to an overwrite of my iPod, and synced. And then what do you know but now my iPod iCal is also wiped out. I had never figured out how to set up Time Machine (just tried it again and no luck), and I was not using iCloud.
I am praying that there is some hope for me.
    Thank you!

  • I just wiped out my ENTIRE Entourage calendar syncing it with iCal.  Help!

Hey there. I'm using Entourage 2004 and I foolishly decided to try syncing it with iCal using the Syncing pane in the Preferences Menu pictured below.
When I opened iCal to have it sync there was a dialogue with three choices and I chose the one that would have seemed to do the least damage. I can't remember now. The problem is, it wiped out my ENTIRE Entourage calendar. I didn't find this out until now when I brought the computer out of sleep. The last 4.5 years are gone. Absolutely nothing is there and the Office Notifications doesn't even start up.
Is there anyway to retrieve this at all? Can I rebuild the database or something? Anything? The kicker is iCal isn't even showing my dates from Entourage even though it started a new colour/calendar for it.
    Please help!

if your phone is still turned on. for example......they overcharge you by $300 one month and just reduce the credit you will have with them. now 2 months before your contract is up, your credit is gone (because they overcharged). you still think you have $300 credit with them.....until they shut your phone off for not paying the bill. probably won't happen, but i just thought i'd throw a scenario out there, as it is very common to have disputes on cell phone bills.

  • All data in iTunes, iPhoto, Mail, iCal, iMovie, etc has been wiped out.

All of the pictures, music, emails, etc has been wiped out in all of our applications. The only thing that wasn't wiped out was our documents. When you click on the applications it goes to what it looks like when you are first setting up your computer. After that, everything is gone. The only thing different we have done with our computer was update Safari. Any idea what happened?

Bee may be onto something. Losing the home folder has been known to happen spontaneously. These are directions if this has been done deliberately, but which you might want to use to troubleshoot your situation. It may be worth a try.

  • .me mail wiped out from iPhone. Restore desktop Mail from Time Machine how?

Wife using her iPhone (OS 4.0.2) for some reason choose delete all on the mobile me account, which wiped out all of our old email on our iMac. Very important email from many years !
Fortunately, We are running Time Machine on a NAS, so getting the files back isn't a big deal. What I don't know is what I'm supposed to copy over. If I look at users-->library-->mail-->Mac(username)-->INBOX.imapmbox-->messages.. I can still see all the same messages that are showing up in time machine. Is there another file or trick I need to do for the mail app to get all of these messages back in the inbox and everything back to normal ?
    Thanks !

Start Mail and while looking at the mail window, start time machine.
It should come up with the "star field" and you will have all the accounts and mailboxes available as far back as your TM backups go.
From there you can restore your mail.
    Cheers

  • Update to os 4.2 on iPhone 3G crashed phone; wiped out Contacts and more

Is there ANY way to get my 'Contacts' back without reconstructing from scratch? Updated to iOS 4.2 on my 3G and it completely wiped-out my Contacts; Uninstalled almost all Apps; Removed Photos and Songs. Had done back-up & Sync just before doing 4.2 upgrade. Tried another Sync after the 4.2 install and got Apps & Songs back. Tried a complete reset/restore and got Apps, Songs & Photos but NO Contacts. Even the back-up on my computer seems to have been erased. It did leave the Phone's 'Favorites' but just the numbers; no names or other information. Also tried 'Import contacts from SIM' - program seemed to run but I could not find any 'Contacts' info anywhere. Any help? Any ideas? Thanks, D.

hi, has any one got any answers to this problem as it has happened to me, is there any where else the phone back info is stored other than library/mobile sync.
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

  • Palm Treo 650 Sync wiped out my address book--HELP!!

Got a replacement Treo 650; went to do my first hard sync. Not only did calendar not port over, but it completely wiped out my entire address book (except for two records created yesterday). Freaked out!! All my iSync settings are the same as previous and have always worked. What to do? Thankfully I still have my old Treo 650 with address book intact, but no one seems able to tell me how to reverse port that address book to my MacBook Pro.
    Pul-eeze someone help me!

This was likely caused by introducing an 'empty' Treo into your synchronization framework with the same HotSync name and without having reset the framework before doing so. The framework properly recognized the new devices as the old—but now empty—device, and removed all of the records from iCal and the Address Book as it should have.
Simply backing up both databases using the built in facility to do so, or assigning a new HotSync name to the replacement device would have either allowed you to immediately recover from this unforeseen consequence, or to have avoided it entirely.
Before you do anything else, you should read this document so that you understand how the synchronization framework operates.
Then, reset the framework by launching iSync, opening the Preferences… pane, and pressing the Reset Sync History… button. This will leave your sync clients registered and your data—such as it is at this point—intact, and set the truth database to appear as if you have never synchronized at all. When you attach your identically named original device, be sure that you choose to Merge data with your computer and not to Replace the data on it.
Once you have merged the data, open iCal and the Address Book and make any changes that you wish to to your data, then pause to back each database up using the built-in option in each application to do so. Synchronize once again, and you changes will not only have been backed up, but distributed across your synchronization pool.

  • Address book groups wiped out

When I migrated my address book from my Tiger to my Leopard Macbook Pro I exported a VCF and transfered it. I had to do this manually since Tiger gave me no "export to" option which Leopard requested. Unbeknownst to me my groups were wiped out (emptied) and before I checked on it I backed it up to my Mobile Me account. I did something wrong and now I'm slowly rebuilding my groups but I want to know the following:
Is there a way of exporting the VCFs in such a way that the groups as well as the addresses will be maintained?
    Thanks:)

I would very much like to know the same thing. The ability to export some but not all groups to a new address book would be extremely useful. Especially when an address book ages, some groups and cards become obsolete. The easiest thing, theoretically, would be to transfer the currently useful groups to a new address book and leave the rest behind as an archive of old addresses. But I do not see a way to do this.
    Any ideas? Anyone?

  • Contact Ringtones & Photos getting wiped out during sync

I hope someone else has experienced this issue and can help me. I get on my iPhone 3G and assign ringtones and photos to my contacts, but the photos and ringtones don't "push" to MobileMe, so that every time I do a sync with iTunes for new music and videos, the photos and ringtones get wiped out and everything goes back to Default. I can go in and set Contact photos in MobileMe, but I have no way to set ringtones for those contacts there. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem with Entourage -- every time I sync, all of my specific iPhone info is lost: ringtone and photo specifically. In order to use Entourage, it has to be synced through Address Book and iCal. What a kludge this is! Unfortunately I haven't found a suitable workaround and I refuse to use Apple's horrible little Mail, Address Book and iCal apps in place of the rather elegant (dare I say this) Microsoft Entourage.

  • HT1386 2 days ago did sync via wifi with Ipad and it wiped out my notes.   anyone know if they can be retrieved anywhere?

2 days ago did sync via wi-fi with Ipad2 and it wiped out my notes.   Anyone know if they can be retrieved and how?
Also today decided to try to sync with I cloud and it wiped out my contacts.  contacts did not go to outlook either.   Fortunately they are still on Ipod touch, but i am afraid to do anymore syncing.   Not the first time I have done a sync!

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

My iPod Touch is running on ios 7. In the last two and a half all the apps of my iPod have been suddenly wiped out twice. I had to download all the apps all over again. Why has it happened?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Playbook data wiped out!...

I am here not to improve anything -- BlackBerry!  I am here to perhaps save someone from what happened to me today.
It is my back up day of the month.  I connected my Playbook to my PC.  Cannot connect!  I thought that perhaps this is because I have upgraded to Windows 8 and now the desktop software is not fully compatible with the new OS!  BB Desktop offered me to repair...  Of course, why not, that is the normal thing we all expect in that situation.  I need to back up!  And without a connection, I cannot back up all the notes I took so far at work and videos of my ever quickly growing 3.5 year old son!
Process started!  Than asked me to update my operating system, that is also expected and nothing out of the ordinary -- I said "yes" to  UPDATE!  It said that it may take an hour or so!  "I have time" I thought to myself!  At the end of the waiting, it started to teach me how to use my Playbook.  My heart started racing.  It cannot be!  I didn't see any warnings that my system was about to be wiped out to factory clean state!.  Before I touched anything, I called the technical support.  The poor guy confirmed my fears.  My pictures, notes, videos, even the sound recordings of the consultation I had with a lawyer recently for which I've paid hundreds of dollars is gone!.  Why did I record the conversation?  Ironically -- So that it would cost less if I spent less time recording instead of taking notes hence cost less!  I don't know what else I have lost but now I have to go around the surrounding cities to my customer sites to take all those pictures of the service equipment again which  I have lost.
To summarize what we have here:
    1. Repair didn't mean repair, it meant replace,
    2. Every software company ask gazillion times if you are sure that you want to wipe out all your data, RIM doesn't follow those conventional s..t for some reason I, for the life of me don't understand why,
    3. Process doesn't give the user a chance to back up his/her data.  Why?  I d o n ' t k n o w!!!...
    4. A company like RIM who started making things for seripous customers -- businesses, where the risks to RIM's own business is very high don't have a f..ing quality system such as ISO that costs nothing to implement or they have it but implemented it the way they implement their installation/maintenance procedures.
    5. Support person was extremely nice but when I told him that he should step on the breaks, do something, pull the alarm cord, do whatever it takes to save the unexpecting people behind me, he said that he cannot do anything!!!  Go figure the company culture and its creators.  Where are these people coming from to become managers at BlackBerry?
This is it for me.  I am sick of waiting and hoping and being optimistic about this Canadian success story to turn around.  Everything they make or do lacks something.  I am done!  I will make sure everyone around me is also done with them.  If you cannot run a successful company with all that money, all these brains that you have hired and can hire, you have to be an **bleep** to fail.  You have been failing since the Bold 9000, perhaps even before!  By the way, I have been in IT business since 1992.  I don't need lecturing about any of these - I know how everything works  and what the problem is in your caves.

I feel you pain. This situation has happened to a few people. I am sure that this particular problem will be eliminated soon, hopefully with the upgrade when the PlayBook gets the full OS10 upgrade later this year. Reminds me of the time back in the early nineties when my oldest son spent a whole day on an assignment without saving it, only to receive the Blue Screen of Death with Win 3.1 late in the day.

hi.  i have the adobe elemenets6/premiere elements 4 package and my disk has gotten destroyed from getting all scratched up.  my laptop i had my program on had to be wiped out and everything has to be reloaded.  is there a way the program can be downloaded from the internet? i have the packaging still where it shows my serial numbers.

iPods do not work with "accounts."  They work with your iTunes library.  You don't have to set up a new iTunes library for each iPod.  One iTunes library can sync with as many iPods, iPhones, and iPads as your own, at the same time.  iTunes connects to and treats each device separately.
However, if your iPod nano is set up for automatic syncing with an iTunes library that is NOT your current iTunes library, you cannot sync your current library to it without replacing its existing content.  Do you have access to the previous iTunes library, the one the iPod currently synced to?  If so, you should transfer your song files from that iTunes library to your current iTunes library.  Then, sync our iPod to your current iTunes library.  You can post back to get more info about the procedure.
If you don't have access to that previous iTunes library, the approach is to first offload the song files from the iPod to your computer's drive, then add the song files to your current iTunes library.
You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
You can then sync your iPod to your "consolidated" iTunes library.

  • My wife purchased some songs from itunes for her iphone.  If I go to sync her ipphone with our itunes library will her purchases be wiped out.  They do not show up in our library on my computer.

My wife purchased some songs for her new iphone from itunes on the phone.  They do not show up in our library on my home computer.  When I go to add new songs to her iphone from my computer are her purchases going to be wiped out.

Is the computer authorized for her iTunes account? If not, sign her in in iTunes and then go up to: Store>Authorize this computer. You say "our library", does that mean she does not have her own computer login? Has she ever synced to this computer/iTunes before? Once she is logged in & the computer authorized for her account, you can transfer purchases on her phone without syncing. With her phone connected, iTunes running: File>Transfer Purchases.
