Modelling techniques

Hello !
I have been given some business objects .
i ahve to do the modelling .
I have found the strong entities . these will be treated as dimensions . There are other business objects which has a 1:1 relationship with the strong entities ?
what should i do with them ?
which are to kept as master data and which as transaction data ?How will i understand ?
Should master data be loaded from R/3 or i have maintain it in BW ?
Please help me with a scenario.

Hi,
Please search the forum. This is an excellent document on modelling alongwith examples that'll clear your doubts.

  • Modeling Techniques within SCM 4.0

Are there any reported bugs in the existing modeling techniques within APO 3.0 that have been corrected in SCM 4.0.
If they have not, are there any workarounds to get past the problem(s).
    Thanks

    Hi Tushar,
This is a too generic question. Very difficult to answer - suggest going through the SCM 4.0 Release Notes http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm40/helpdata/en/36/069840893d2b54e10000000a1550b0/RN_SCM_40_EN.pdf for details to your query.

  • Modelling techniques & tools

    Hi
What methods, diagrams and tools do you use for designing and modelling a new application (which will be implemented in Apex)?
I have used UML use cases with activity diagrams (used JDeveloper) mostly used for communication with end users and as a requirement spec.
Then I jump directly to the database modell (also JDeveloper). But that's it. This is of course ok for small development projects.
But for bigger projects I miss a link between the use cases and the data- (and object-) modell(s).
Sequence- and communication diagrams seem only valid in pure OO design...(?) ... which isn't suitable using Apex(?).
I think modelling is easier using object oriented design...
    What do you think?
Any suggestions of methods, techniques and tools?
    thanks // Frederic

    Hi Frederic,
I'm pretty old school, probably since I've been doing this for so long. All of those diagramming tools are pretty useless to me during the desing stage, and even after I have the app/schema built, all I do is create a simple ER diagram for the users to get an understanding of the structure and relationships.
During the intial table layout, I start by sketching out the intial tables I think I'll need, then I start going through the fields I think I need and place them in the appropriate tables. I'll then throw all that in a spreadsheet and run it by the users, making a few changes or additions here and there, then run it by the users again after creating the ER diagram. I then build the app and demo that to the users and then go back and add anything else they've thought of, then update the ER diagram, tables, views, etc. and by then I'm usually pretty close to being done.
I'm probably kind of unique though in that all of my 'projects' are custom projects (schemas and apps) built from scratch, and I'm the only computer person that knows anything about they are designed and built. I just deal with scientists that have an idea of what they want, but don't have the skills to actually get it done.
My largest app though only has about 35 data tables and about 18 lookup tables, so things really aren't that complicated. If I can ever convince top level management that the current way of doing things is extremely time-consuming, error-prone and leads to eventual loss of usable corporate data though, these could easily be expanded to a couple hundred data tables to accomodate all of the types of data currently being lost each year, but I don't have much hope for top-level management ever doing anything (they hate to make decisions, especially if it involves money and/or manpower).

  • Object Oriented Modelling and Code Generator

i have a final yr project on java--any help plzz
    Objectives:
In software development we make extensive use of models to capture details about objects in a domain, the attributes of the objects and the relationships between the objects. Once complete, these models also contain constraints on the objects and their attributes.
The aim of this project will be to develop a GUI to draw an appropriate software model and to automatically generate a set of Java classes consistent with the model that can be used to rapidly implement the software.
This research will aim at analysing the different modelling techniques and the mapping of these models to java codes.

  • Question on Tabular Model 2012

    Hi,
I need to hide certain columns for a user group but the same columns should be visible for another user group in the same model. The out of the box 'row level  security' would not work for this requirement. I tried a modelling technique, by bringing
the 'hidden fields' to a table using the 'Blank' DAX function in a 'role' on the table that contains the hidden fields, but this hides all tables related to the table that contains the hidden fields.
As a last resort I am creating two models (1) model one with all fields visible (2)  model two will hide certain fields. Basically model 2 is a copy of model 1, only certain fields in model 2 will be hidden.
To avoid reading the source data twice I am planning to update the model 1 and then synchronize model 1 with model 2 ( the one with hidden fields).  My gut feeling is that if I synchronize model 1 with model 2, all the hidden fields in model 2
will become visible, as the metadata in model 2 will be updated with metadata of model 1.
As the number of users would be in hundreds, implementing a complex security layer might impact the performance if we try and implement such security on the same model.
It would be great if anybody can share thoughts on the probable solution and if the approach to 'synchonize' both the models would work.
    Thanks
    Bidyut
    A**LE

    Hi Bidyut,
According to your description, you want to implement dynamic security for two group users, right? In SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular model, we can implement dynamic security using an external security table but we can integrate this security table into
the existing tables based on particular source data at production implementations. So in your scenario, you can store the users' information on an external table, and then implement the security through this table. Here is a blog which describes how to implement
it step by step, please see:
    SSAS – Tabular Dynamic Security
    Hope this helps.

  • BIA InfoCube Modeling

Hi all.  I'm curious as to what the consensus is for this question.  When modeling a new InfoCube that you know is going to be loaded into the BIA would you still use conventional modeling techniques - Line Item Dimensions, small dimensions in comparison to the fact table, logical partitioning, etc?  Or, can you model the InfoCube however you want, and load as much data in it as you want, without any performance degradation?
Have you seen any white papers around about this subject?

    Alan,
There is no real correlation for this. In fact there is more of a consideration in how large the fact table is in relation to dimension and master data tables. The actual pure access to the data is extremely quick (normally sub second) but it's the joins that takes time. Also if a query requests large amount of data the network transfer time may be an important consideration.
That being said in my experience there is no real maximum number of rows for a cube. However it is still important to consider your data modeling concept. For instance if you have a cube with 7 years of data (with 1 billion fact records) and your end users only really report off 3 of those years...whats the point of having the 4 extra years in there anyway?

  • Business models supported by BPA

what are the different kinds of modeling techniques/standards like EPC or BPMN supported by oracle BPA suite? What model types should be used to draw the processes conforming to these standards?

For business process modelling, Oracle BPA suite supports both EPC and BPMN. For EPC you can use "EPC" model to create a new EPC diagram. There are other options also for EPC like EPC with column, horizontal, row display etc.
BPMN diagrams can be created using "Business Process Diagram" model.
    Hope it helps,

  • Poor performance with WebI and BW hierarchy drill-down...

    Hi
We are currently implementing a large HR solution with BW as backend
and WebI and Xcelcius as frontend. As part of this we are experiencing
very poor performance when doing drill-down in WebI on a BW hierarchy.
In general we are experiencing ok performance during selection of data
and traditional WebI filtering - however when using the BW hierarchy
for navigation within WebI, response times are significantly increasing.
The general solution setup are as follows:
    1) Business Content version of the personnel administration
infoprovider - 0PA_C01. The Infoprovider contains 30.000 records
    2) Multiprovider to act as semantic Data Mart layer in BW.
    3) Bex Query to act as Data Mart Query and metadata exchange for BOE.
All key figure restrictions and calculations are done in this Data Mart
    Query.
    4) Traditionel BO OLAP universe 1:1 mapped to Bex Data Mart query. No
calculations etc. are done in the universe.
    5) WebI report with limited objects included in the WebI query.
As we are aware that performance is an very subjective issues we have
created several case scenarios with different dataset sizes, various
filter criteria's and modeling techniques in BW.
Furthermore we have tried to apply various traditional BW performance
tuning techniques including aggregates, physical partitioning and pre-
calculation - all without any luck (pre-calculation doesn't seem to
work at all as WebI apparently isn't using the BW OLAP cache).
In general the best result we can get is with a completely stripped WebI report without any variables etc.
and a total dataset of 1000 records transferred to WebI. Even in this scenario we can't get
each navigational step (when using drill-down on Organizational Unit
hierarchy - 0ORGUNIT) to perform faster than minimum 15-20 seconds per.
    navigational step.
That is each navigational step takes 15-20 seconds
with only 1000 records in the WebI cache when using drill-down on org.
    unit hierachy !!.
Running the same Bex query from Bex Analyzer with a full dataset of
30.000 records on lowest level of detail returns a threshold of 1-2
seconds pr. navigational step thus eliminating that this should be a BW
    modeling issue.
As our productive scenario obviously involves a far larger dataset as
well as separate data from CATS and PT infoproviders we are very
worried if we will ever be able to utilize hierarchy drill-down from
    WebI ?.
The question is as such if there are any known performance issues
related to the use of BW hierarchy drill-down from WebI and if so are
there any ways to get around them ?.
As an alternative we are currently considering changing our reporting
strategy by creating several higher aggregated reports to avoid
hierarchy navigation at all. However we still need to support specific
division and their need to navigate the WebI dataset without
limitations which makes this issue critical.
Hope that you are able to help.
    Thanks in advance
    /Frank
Edited by: Mads Frank on Feb 1, 2010 9:41 PM

Hi Henry, thank you for your suggestions although i´m not agree with you that 20 seconds is pretty good for that navigation step. The same query executed with BEx Analyzer takes only 1-2 seconds to do the drill down.
    Actions
suppress unassigned nodes in RSH1: Magic!! This was the main problem!!
tick use structure elements in RSRT: Done it.
enable query stripping in WebI: Done it.
upgrade your BW to SP09: Has the SP09 some inprovements in relation to this point ?
use more runtime query filters. : Not possible. Very simple query.
    Others:
RSRT combination H-1-3-3-1 (Expand nodes/Permanent Cache BLOB)
Uncheck prelimirary Hierarchy presentation in Query. only selected.
Check "Use query drill" in webi properties.
Sorry for this mixed message but when i was answering i tryied what you suggest in relation with supress unassigned nodes and it works perfectly. This is what is cusing the bottleneck!! incredible...
    Thanks a lot

  • Please not another ABAP vs. Java-Thread, BUT ...

    Hi, folks!
I already had several inspiring discussions about the need for 2 different languages within one Enterprise System, but right now I' d like to take a more personal approach to this matter.
I' m working within SAP business for about 3 years now and started as a trainee for SAP Java development in a small consulting company . In my first year, I was some kind of geek freaking out on each new SAP technology that arose or was only announced. Web Dynpro Java, ESA/eSOA, Portal, Mendocino/Duet, Business Client, Enterprise Search, Widgets a.s.o. I did a lot of presentations and technical workshops for SAP Pros - NWDI, WDJ, Interactive Forms  - and you know what? Nobody was interested in any of these. Interactive Forms? We just switched to Smartforms. WDJ? When will it be available for ABAP. NWDI? We spent a fortune on ABAP courses. Widgets? We have SAP GUI. Business Client? We have SAP GUI. Portal? We have SAP GUI.
Now I' m working as a simple ABAP programmer in HR. No web enablement, cause web apps are realized completely outside SAP. No SOA-enablement, cause all SAP functionality needed outside is either already provided via BAPIs or put in RFC modules. No Java at all, cause there is and will be only an ABAP stack. None of all the new stuff, but a great need for knowledge of standard programs, their configuration possibilities and use.
So, to come to the conclusion: What I realized in my work life is that daily business is pretty innovation-resistant and I personally don' t think that even half of all the "emerging technologies" will make it for the next 5 - 10 years. What I also realized is that a lot of time and work has to be spent by developers to keep in touch with new development techniques, which could be used better for clearing white spaces in classical ABAP as well as module programming environments. If developers would focus more on ABAP and module knowledge than on the newest Modelling-techniques many SAP systems probably wouldn' t be spoiled by poor custom developments, enhancements and modifications as they are today!
    Regards,
    Thomas

So, to come to the conclusion: What I realized in my work life is that daily business is pretty innovation-resistant and I personally don' t think that even half of all the "emerging technologies" will make it for the next 5 - 10 years.
Yes - it is indeed. If a company invested quite lots of money to get a certain application (or a part of it) working they won´t switch to a different technology just because it´s "hip" at the moment. For new customers it is certainly a very nice alternative to use the new technologies instead of the "old ones".
And to quote the example I said already a few times: If ABAP was so bad, why would SAP themselves switch certain applications back to WD-ABAP (speaking of Travel Management in Enhancement Pack 2 e. g.).
What I´ve heard the new paradigma is
    - Service provisioning: ABAP
    - Service consumption: Java
    Whatever this means in detail.
I can hardly imagine removing the SAPGUI out of our e. g. sales department and replace it by e. g. a nice "guided procedure" using NWBC. In maybe 5 % of the todays cases this would be enough, the other 95 % still need the full featured transaction with all the tabs, fields and editing functionality.
And what I find the most interesting in that area is: SAP internally I always see SAPGUIs on the (supporters, sales dep.) desks, the "backend OSS/CSN" is still accessed by GUI and not by web, guess why...

  • HTMLB in Web Dynpro Java

    Hi guys,
is it possible to use HTMLB in dynpro? if yes, how?

  • Integration of new BPM (NWDS EHP1) and Solution Manager process graphics

    Hi Experts,
we are trying to use Solution Manager for our client's process documentation. Now, Solution Manager generates a graphic which unfortunately is almost unusable (no lanes, no transaction link, just visio-like graphic). Even the old ASAP 4.6C graphic tool was better and more interactive.
On the other hand the new BPM in NW Developer Studio EHP1 Composition Environment seems to provide a perfect graphical tool for process modeling and documentation.
Does anybody know if there is a (future?) possibility to integrate these two tools?
As an alternative, does anybody have an idea how to get better Solution Manager process graphics?
    Michael Meissner

I also digged a little into this topic since I was wondering about the different modeling techniques SAP currently provides and how they will be integrated in the future.
[This|http://www.feedingthesapecosystem.com/2009/05/sapphire-09-part-ii-high-stakes-of.html] great blog entry about NW BPM also includes some comments about the future vision of integration between NW BPM and SolMan. It looks like in NW BPM 7.2 (planned for end of the year) there will be a "read-only" integration with SolMan processes while in the future there will be a bidirectional integration which means that BPM can import SolMan processes, enhance them and again export the models to SolMan. This is a great step further to the Common Process Layer SAP is referring in the [BPM Roadmap document|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/003cf0a1-e8fa-2a10-7db5-ba245a663d9f&overridelayout=true].

  • In sap bw with hana, How exactly the performance is improved ?

By replacing oracle db with hana , are we installing new processors as well. Or is the performance we get is purely because of columnar storage ?

    Hi Mohd,
This is a good question. Just replacing the DB or columnar store doesn't help.
If HANA DB is just a data base on memory then everyone can just add more memory for existing DB or columnar store then most DB already offer columnar store ( Like IBM DB2 Blu Accelerator or MS Sql columnar, etc)
It is a combination factor of HANA DB which optimised for both read and write operations along columnar store and data compression. In case of HANA DB sap is trying to push most of the process to database.
All new BW modeling techniques ( ADSO or New Composite Provider) will work only with  HANA DB.
General points why BW on HANA is more efficient
    1) No DIM ID in cube
    2) Change log tables can be converted into views ( optional )
    3) DSO Activation Pushed to DB
    4) Transformation Pushed to DB if no ABAP routines.
    5) No need of index for cubes
    6) Aggregations is no more required.

Enterprise Resource Planning Systems Implementation:  the basic methodologies, techniques and tools that are used in the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems using SAP R/3 as an example.  Many large organisations are making decisions to implemented Enterprise Resource Planning Systems but the implementation is complex and requires specific project management skills and knowledge.
Strategic Use of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems:  the strategic features of ERP systems and how these features can be utilised within an implementation.  Many large organisations have implemented Enterprise Resource Planning Systems to integrate their business processes and are now attempting to gain further benefits by utilising the strategic features of these systems such as supply chain optimisation, customer relationship management, and data warehousing.

I did my masters in just computer sciences, but if I had something like this available I would have gone for it. But there are a couple of factors to consider. One is will there be good campus recruitments and what is the rate absorption of candidates for this course. Second question, do I really want to persue this field as my career. ERP is the concept that revolves around the business. So you should have an aptitude for learning how a business operates and functions.
The course curriculum looks good particularly because it includes topics on Supply Chain Management and Business Process Engineering which are relatively new.
Another good aspect of it is that it is giving this course with SAP as an example tool. SAP is the leading ERP software company(and many more products are added to its portifolio now).
Is it worth the money? That you have to decide. You can do a regular masters in computer science, but get a job in a company that trains you in SAP, and learn everything on the job or take some traning from SAP training academies and then start on job. That is one option. But if you want to persue a career in building products in the ERP/SCM areas, then a formal education in that area will be useful. But if you are just interested in implementing existing products then it is not a must.
Hope I gave you some information that is useful. Please don't forget to reward appropriately for helpful answers and close when completely answered.

  • Where can I get CD4047 or its match in Multisim 12?

where can I get CD4047 or its match in Multisim 12?
I am designing an INVERTER circuit in MULTISIM COMPONENT EVALUATOR 12.0 software.
but on doing so I can't find the IC (Integrated circuit) CD4047. I have tried to search CD4047 match component (can replace it) on the internet but not found?
    1. What can I do or how can I replace its Match component?
    2. In future when I design in Multisim, when I coudn't get components in the data base of MULTISIM, what solutions can you give me?
Hoping to get from your Answers
    Thank you!

    Experts,
There is the CD4538 which I believe is a similar chip (its dual - so you get 2).
    1. If you locate the CD4047 model online, or you can use 1/2 of the CD4538, you can use the Component Wizard to import a custom component into Multisim.
    2. There are various techniques to get models/parts into Multisim.   If you can find an equivalent model you can use you can create a part using the Component Wizard.   There are various SPICE modeling marco modeling techniques for creating models, but the complexity depends on the type of part and how much detail you need from the model.   The best method is to locate the SPICE model from the manufacturer and follow our Component Wizard steps to import the new model into a Multisim part (usually with the most challenging step being the symbol - spice model mapping).

  • Create Or Replace Function Error

    Hello,
I'm doing text mining using Oracle SQL Developer: ODMiner.. I imported the data "WEBLOG" into a table.. This weblog data consist of users activity, date, time, url, etc. The first step I took was to use a function to transform date and time that I have in the data table, into a number representing the 40 mins since 01-01-1990. I did this by dividing it by 2400 (seconds in 40 mins). The main purpose is to have a time frame for the sessions.
    I used the following code,
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION ssnDate(
    DATE IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT 03-01-18,
    TIME IN VARCHAR2
    ) RETURN NUMBER
    AS
    BEGIN
    RETURN TRUNC((to_date(DATE||' '||TIME, 'DD-MM-YY HH:MM:SS')- to_date('01-JAN-1990','DD-MON-YYYY')) * (86400/2400);
    END ssnDate;
This was what appeared in the log after running the statement,
    FUNCTION ssnDate compiled
    Warning: execution completed with warning
After this, I tried to create a VIEW to transform the DATE and TIME with the ssnDate that was created earlier on, and concatenate the CS_URI_STEM (which is the resource accessed), and CS_URI_QUERY (which is the the query, if any, the client was trying to perform)into a new field called WEB_LINK.
    This is the code used,
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW WEBLOG_VIEWS("C_IP", "WEB_LINK", "CS_USER_AGENT", "SESSION")
    AS
    SELECT ssnDate(LOG_DATE, LOG_TIME) AS 'SESSION',
    C_IP,
    CS_USER_AGENT,
    (CS_URI_STEM||'?'||CS_URI_QUERY) AS WEB_LINK
    FROM WEBLOG;
Now from this I got the following error..

CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW WEBLOG_VIEWS("C_IP", "WEB_LINK", "CS_USER_AGENT", "SESSION")
    AS
    SELECT ssnDate(LOG_DATE, LOG_TIME) AS 'SESSION',

I don't get where I'm going wrong with this.. This is the data preparation stage which requires me to prep the data before applying modeling techniques or algorithms.. The next step would be grouping the data, based on the session time, ip and the user agent of each session along with the web_links fields visited by the user in that session.
I would really be grateful for any inputs on where I'm going wrong and any solutions for that!
