Modem won't work on an extension

I have a BT Voyager 220v modem and an Express.
All is ok when I connect the modem in at the socket which the phone line enters the house.
When I run a 15mtr phone extension and plug it in, I get no ADSL signal.
I have used all the filters where I need them.
Any suggestions as to why this is?
Thanks

In addition to Simon's fine answer, here's a listing of some extension ADSL cables that may help: http://shopping.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/ssadsl_extensioncable.html

  • Satellite A30, Win XP Pro SP3 - modem won't work

Another issue with this A30 Satellite notebook
The built in modem doesn't work.
    *Explanation:*
The driver is correct and downloaded from the Toshiba support site.
The modem is identified as 'Toshiba software modem amr' and is setted on com3 port.
When I click on 'diagnostic' and 'ask modem' (the right labels may be different, since my is an Italian win xp, I just translated the Italian labels), a window appears saying it's impossible to open the door (port) which the modem is connected to.
I have tried to change the modem com port to different numbers but the problem is the same.
I don't know whether the modem is an actual board connected in some way to the main board or is just built on the main board. If it would be the first case, I could change it ad see. btw, the mini pci slot is already occupied by the gigabyte Wi-Fi board, so the modem must be somewhere else.
It is strange, since I did at least 2 other win xp pro installations on this machine, always downloading and installing the proper drivers, and the modem never has worked.
    Thanks
    S.

    Hi
This old Satellite A30 was offered with Windows XP Home Edition/Professional SP1 so maybe you should install WXP SP1 and then all other stuff following original installation order.

  • Fax modem won't work - Apple USB external modem

I am new to Mac, well relatively.... It's been 8 years, and now I am back!!
Anyway, I got an iMac 3 weeks ago, and love it. However, I can't get my external modem/fax modem working. I bought the Apple USB external modem, hooked it up, setup a fax printer, and NOTHING. I try to print to the fax and it won't even dial. I call the fax number, and it won't answer. I know it's a live phone line b/c I can hook it up to my fax machine and it works fine, both for incoming and outgoing messages. Is there a trick? Do I have to set up an actual external modem interface in the networks panel just to use an existing phone line? Thanks for your help....

You actually need to configure your iMac as a fax machine to send and receive faxes through the Apple USB modem.
    From Faxing in Mac Help in the Finder Help menu;
*To set up your Mac to receive faxes*:
    1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Print & Fax.
    2. Select the fax modem in the Printers list.
    3. Type your fax number in the Fax Number field. This is used to identify your computer when you send or receive a fax.
    4. If you want to control your computer’s fax functions from the menu bar, select “Show fax status in menu bar.” If you don’t want to receive faxes automatically, you must select this option. If you receive faxes automatically, you may want to select this option so you can view status information more easily.
    5. Click Receive Options.
    6. Select “Receive faxes on this computer,” and choose the number of rings before your computer answers a fax.
    a. If you want to receive faxes automatically, make sure your computer answers the phone before any other device that may be connected to it, such as a phone answering machine.
    b. If you don’t want to receive faxes automatically, set the number of rings to the highest number possible, and use the Fax status menu to receive faxes manually.
    7. Choose what to do with the fax after it arrives; you can save it as an image file, email it, and print it to a printer.
    *To send a fax:*
    1. Choose File > Print, and then choose Fax PDF from the PDF pop-up menu.
    2. Type the fax number in the To field, or click the Address Book button to the right of the To field to select a number. If you want to paste a number into the To field and the Edit > Paste command isn’t available, hold down the Control key as you click the To field and choose Paste from the menu that appears.
    3. If your phone system requires you to dial a prefix for an outside line, type it in the Dialing Prefix field.
    4. If you want to include a cover page, select “Use Cover page” and enter a subject and message.
    5. Make sure the correct fax device is selected from the Printer pop-up menu.
    6. To change your options, choose the option category from the print options pop-up menu. For example, to choose your modem’s behavior when faxing, choose Fax Modem. You can choose whether to dial with touch tones or pulse tones, whether to listen to the modem as it dials, and whether to wait for a steady dial tone before dialing.
    7. Click Fax.

  • USB modem won't work with Panther

My girlfriend has a black G3 powerbook and uses a Speedtouch 330 USB modem successfully on OS9. However I have also installed Panther 10.3.9 and installed the Speedtouch Panther driver update from their site but when I open the Network preferences panel Speedtouch USB does not come up as an option.
If I go to the list of modems it is there but if I select it it still doesn't work.
In the past I have used a USB modem with my G4 and Panther and after installing the driver it immediately appeared as a new connection option called Speedtouch USB and it worked fine.
I have tried reinstalling the driver several times. I have spoken to Apple and I have spoken to Speedtouch with no result.
I can only assume that it is something to do with the black G3 compatibility.
I have done a test with her powerbook in Panther and plugged in my ethernet router and it works fine.
But these routers are quite expensive and it bugs me... why won't Panther recognise the USB driver?
    Any suggestions please ?
    thanks

My westell modem is very flakey and will often reset its connection from PPOE to bridge all by itself. From what I read on the web, setting the westell to bridge is the way to go since it allows the router to actually route. But, for me it only works when sent to PPOE. That means that the westell is both a modem and DNS/NAT router so I disabled those capabilities in airport. The verizon dslstart.verizon.com has some help on how to do this. search on westell 6100.

  • Modem won't work with router

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but this one seemed to be closest to my problem.
I can't get my modem to work with a router; Apple Airport Express, Asante' FR1104-G, Linksys BEFW11S4, none of them will work with my DSL modem (Westell B90-210015-04) either through ethernet or AirPort.
It worked fine untill a couple of days ago, then nothing. I can however connect to the internet directly by running a ethernet cable directly from my modem to my computer. I heard that downgrading to Airport Express Updater 6.1.1 from 6.2 might help, but no dice. I've tried to reset all routers and redo my internet settings but no luck there either. I can talk to my routers from my comp, but cannot complete the connection to the modem. I even went to the extreme measure of contacting Verizon, but they are of absolutly no help at all, suggesting that all three of my routers must have gone wonky at exactly the same time.
I'm at a loss here and any help at all would be appreciated, thanks

  • USB-CDMA Modem won´t work after shut dowen by my PB

I´m using a VTION V1810 CDMA modem to connect to the Internet when travelling.
Works fine, only after the connection is shut down by either the PB or due to inactivity timeout after 30 min, I can not connect anymore.
I tried several procedures like connecting to another USB port, setting up a new connection and so on.
Just after some time if the device is not plugged in, I get lucky and it connects again as if there was no rain in this world...
    Any ideas?
I already learnt that I always have to connect it to the same USB port, and that it is luck if it works over a hub.

Sorry, I was not clear enough. The modem had a problem that involved it not hanging up. I wondered if there might be a similar process that was occurring with the CDMA modem.
With the CDMA modem I use, there was no script/driver but I connect using the "null modem 115200" setting (in modems). I see there are a few other modem settings in there.
As a point, have you updated the OS recently? Sometimes this will mean that a driver does not integrate properly and we would have to wait until the maker updates the driver too. It might be worth your while to try the other settings.

  • WRT-54GL: DSL Modem won't work in Internet port, but works in other ethernet ports. Help?

To begin, IP addresses for ALL devices on my network are static and manually assigned, no DHCP, in case that matters at all. My problem is that when I plug my DSL modem into the Internet port on the back of my router it doesn't even see the modem and obviously I can't get on the internet. However, I can plug the modem into any of the other Ethernet ports on the router and it sees the modem just fine and I can use the internet. I don't quite understand this. It hasn't caused any problems at all, but I find it strange. This problem has existed with both the stock firmware as well as Tomato firmware. What can I do to get my modem to work through the Internet port instead of the regular ethernet ports? Please take into consideration that I am using the latest Tomato firmware. Thanks all!

Press the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. The Power light will start flashing. Turn the Router and the Modem OFF. Turn the modem ON first, wait for 10 seconds, turn the router ON, wait for 10 seconds, you should be ONLINE !!!

  • Option 3G modem won't work with 10.5.5!

Hello all, I've been trying to find a way to contact Apple directly (by email), but wasn't able to find any, so I thought it would be clever to post here, in case any one happens to wander by.
I'd simply like to report that the 3G modem labeled "Qualcomm 3D CDMA" by Option has gone missing from the newest version of OSX, 10.5.5. In 10.5.4, I could simply go to the Network settings, add a new device, and in the list of available modem drivers go and select "Other - Option 3G modem". Now Option has it's own category in the list of manufacturers, but it is empty except for a GSM modem with the preset APN "isp.cingular" (Other countries with different service providers? In my network settings?).
The software I use to connect with still recognizes the modem perfectly, and connects as well. Alas, OSX refuses to believe that my computer is connected to...anything, really, and promptly gives me a 404 error upon trying to reach any website.
Dear Apple, please resolve this problem if you could muster the time and energy to do so. I have already contacted my service provider about this, and I hope that we all can reach a fitting solution.
    Yours truly

Okay, I've seen this message mentioned many times in this forum. The UFR2 Backgrounder service does need to communicate with the printer in order for the driver to print. Failure will cause the error message mentioned.
If you open Print & Fax, select the MF and then open Options & Supplies, under the Utility tab is Open Printer Utility. This will open the UFR2 Printmonitor application. I would expect this to error at first (and if you watched Activity Monitor you would see the mcc service using resources) but after the error pane is displayed you should be able to press the Printer menu in UFR2 Printmonitor and select the MF4350. If it is not showing under the Printer menu then select 'Search for Printer'. After a couple of seconds press the Printer menu again. The MF4350 should be listed with a USB icon next to it. When this does happen then you should be able to print.
With regards to the Vista, the UFR2 driver and ScanGear function differently on Windows compared to OS X so it is not surprising to read that is working fine. And it is worth noting that if there is an application that is impacting the Canon OS X software from connecting, the same apps usually don't stop the Windows versions of the same apps. Why the Canon engineers needed to put such heavy reliance on the backgrounder service for Mac is questionable.

  • Arris TG862G Modem won't work with Messages

Here's a very strange and frustrating bug for you!  A friend of mine was having trouble with her iPhone 5 using iOS 6.0.1 and Messages.  She could send pictures via Messages, but only when not at home.  After days of troubleshooting, we finally discovered that the culprit was her Comcast provided Arris TG862G cable modem.  This particular modem is newer with telephone and wireless capabilities.  For whatever reason, pictures can not be sent through Messages using that modem.  Works fine through email and 3rd party apps, works fine on cellular data, but will not work on wifi provided by that particular modem.  We tested various setting changes and resets, plus other modems and they gave us no trouble!  Anyone else experience this one?

Updating my family's iPhone 4 and 5 to IOS 6.1 solved the iMessage problem for me using a Comcast / Xfinity Arris TG862G/CT all in one cable modem / router (gateway) / Wireless Access Point (WAP). It also solved a similar problem accessing Chase Mobile (Banking) app on both iPhones via Comcast Xfinity WiFi; always worked fine over non-Comcast WiFi, 3G, and 4G LTE, just not Comcast WiFi.
Oddly enough the identical problem still exists with the Chase Mobile app on a Motorola Droid 4 running Android 4.0.4 over the same Comcast WiFi network, but works fine on other non-Comcast Wifi networks and over 4G LTE. I have already seen the finger-pointing on this between Comcast, Google, and Motorola on who is responsible. Kudos to Apple for resoling it with IOS 6.1 for iPhones.

  • USB 4G LTE modem won't work second time trying it during the day :(

I have a VERIZON USB551L 4GLTE modem. In the morning the laptop fires up and modem fine. Then trying to disconnect it takes forever, or it will sit there and say initializing. VZAM version 7.6.3.1. HELP

Anonymousy, I can understand why it would be frustrating having a device startup normal one time, but then have issues with subsequent attempts. Do you receive an error message when trying to connect the second time? Try evdotech's suggestion of removing the SIM card and rebooting the computer. Also, I checked and the newest software version of VZAccess Manager for this device is 7.7.1, so you may also want to update the software.
Please try these steps and let us know of your results.

  • 2-wire modems don't work with Apple?

Never had an Internet problem until I moved 3 weeks ago.  Since then my 12 mbps signal drops constantly.  AT&T Uverse have been to my new house 20 days straight trying to fix it (their monitoring shows the signal drops [goes away] sometimes every 2 or 3 minutes, ever since they connected it 20 days ago).  They have rewired my house (new cat5e drops, everything from the street to the house to the RJ45), and also  redid fiber-to-copper-to-street from telephone poles.  (I don't know the technical terms, but that's the gist of it, as they explained it to me.)  The AT&T guy says 2-wire modems won't work with Apple computers, and that might be the actual cause of the problems.  I find that hard to understand, since I had the same modem also using Uverse at my old address, for four years, with no problems.  So they've added a Cisco router, creating a second wifi within my house.  Now I get steady signal with Cisco, but it's 3.4 mbps.
I now am having problems streaming already-rented movies to my AppleTV.  The one I tried to watch tonight stops every 5 minutes or so and buffers for at least another 5 minutes each time.  That makes it tough to watch the movie.
Does anybody know if this buffering issue is because of slow wifi?  Or is it related to wifi at all?  If not, what else could it be?  I started this movie about 2 hours ago, so I now have 22 hours left on the rental, and at this rate I'll be up all night trying to watch it.
    Thanks.

I've used U-verse and the same 2-Wire modem for 4 years without any problems.  I am about 1800 feet from the VRAD (box, usually on a street corner, that connects the last mile copper to the fiber which goes to the CO).
So you have to ask U-verse just how far are you from the VRAD. The service does degrade somewhat the further you are from the VRAD (limit about 3000 to 4000 feet) and of course the quality of the copper between you and the VRAD.
Also, for questions like this, which are more U-vers problems than mac problems I suggest posting at the two primary U-verse forums:
    AT&T U-verse Forums

  • Firefox upgrade needs to indicate which extensions won't work!!!

I would do a "suggestion for improvement" but I refuse to run 7.0.1 because "Fast Dial" doesn't work. I have had to go back to 3.6 twice now, and that is a PITA! Please FF team indicate which extensions don't/won't work prior to downloading.
Also, Fast Dial would be a nice FF improvement, ie: make it part of FF.

Wrong answer! FF 7.0.1 doesn't work for me because "Fast Dial" doesn't work with it. Fast Dial is an essential element of my browser requirements.
Please read my initial post before replying.

10.7 was horrible unstable so I waited until 10.7.1 and tried it again. Well I have to say that it is still a defective OS. I am reverting to Snow as we speak from my carbon clone copy.. This is really the worst OSX I have ever used. It gives me random Kernel panics for no reasons, unstable airport and hundreds of small issues that are just not necessary. For instance I can't use QuickTime in Lion to trim a videoclip ( the UI goes mad and the trimslider becomes inoperable and hangs the Player window ) while in Snow it is no problem. Itunes gives me crackling sound when the equalizer is turned on, Graphical glitches in Photoshop, games crashing, Preview.app not working with some pdfs, so I need Adobes reader which I never used before.. It is definately not ripe for mass usage. Might 10.7.2 or 10.7.3 fix it, but not yet.
    * and just for the records : the hardware is absoltely ok. Because in Snow it works as it should. ( So many Lion fanbois are talking : "your Ram is defect", defintely NOT. - Lion is defect! ).
    Shame on you Apple.

  • New AE Won't Work With Old Verizon DSL Modem

I'm trying to set up a new AE station for a friend. She had an Airport station that worked fine. The DSL modem is like 6 years old or something. Of course I've tried calling Verizon, but am on hold forever. Is it possible the modem is too old? I've looked at ports, all settings I can think of, but nothing. I've set up as many as a hundred of these, so have some experience. Just hoping for some feedback 'till I talk to them. It's PB 12" with 10.4.3 running. It's brand new. When I put the old station back, no problem. Any help is appreciated.

With the old base station connected open Airport Admin Utility and "Save a copy as..." something. Connect the new one and import that configuration. If it is really old that won't work but it is worth a try.
Is PPPoE needed for the DSL connection?
Have you powered everything down and slowly brought them back (modem, AE, and computer)? Sometimes it takes a while for an ISP to recognize a new network device as valid.

  • I have a wired keyboard which won't work with my MacBook Air unless I use the extension cable supplied with the apple keyboard. Is this normal or have I got a connection problem?

I Have an apple wired keyboard which suddenly won't work unless I use the apple ext cable supplied with the keyboard...used with the wire fixed into the keyboard it just won't respond.  Do u think the keyboard is faulty. ? I want to use it with my MacBook Air and a big screen.

My best guess is that either there's a small deformation of the USB plug of your keyboard or some foreign matter (like lint) inside the keyboard plug. When I was setting up my new lab last year I had to use the extension cables and I found that the female end of the extension cable was considerably tighter than the computer's USB port. If an Apple store is nearby it would be worth taking the computer, keyboard, and extension just for piece of mind.
