They wait, and wait, and wait, and wait.
Whose policy is this to screen everything before allowing posts to show up? Is that a Toshiba policy? What is Toshiba afraid of? If this is a Toshiba policy, I object. I object very strongly. Strongly enough that I'm just about tempted to pack up the mini notebook and ship it back to B&H and buy a different brand where the manufactor doesn't censor the support forum.
Let's see if this shows up.

Be honest and tell us how often you saw message like this:

Probably first time now. I have noticed that sometimes forum is closed for postings but there must be some reason why moderator do this. At the moment you can write what you want.
There is no reason for panic or comments about Toshiba policy.
Every serious forum has own policy and this forum is more than serious. Isnt it?
So it is nothing unusual and it can be done due to some technical or any other reason.
Look a little bit what people write here and you will find very critical postings but nothing is blocked or edited by Toshiba so I think this forum is free and democratic. Your posting is also published.
In my opinion it is the best evidence that your critic and opinion about this forum and Toshiba forum policy is completely unjustified. Do you agree with me?

Please Help - I can't seem to get help anywhere about this issue...

I have and iBook G4 (Late 2004)
I also have a Soundblaster 24-Bit Live USB Soundcard.
I am trying to set it up.
here's what I do...
1. Plug in the sound card into my USB port
2. Open "Audio/MIDI Stup Utility"
3. Select "Soundblaster 24-Bit Live USB SOundcard" from the menu (the other option is built-in audio)
4. Click configure speakers (when I open the window it is set to Stere) with the Soundcard plugged in, I can set speaker config to 5.1 and some of the other configurations
4a. If i create an aggregate device I can use 7.1 (using the headphone jack as another output
5. Close speaker config window (if I click configure speakers again it still show the 5.1 configuration)
6. Close "Audio/MIDI Setup Utility"
6a. If I use iTunes to play music i only get sound from TWO speakers, I quit iTunes, reopen "Audio/MIDI Setup Utility", click configure speakers and the setting is set back to Stereo.
What on earth is going on???

That device requires a software driver that is not available for Mac OS X. I'm afraid you won't be able to use it with a Mac without the software driver from the manufacturer. While Mac OS X may accurately recognize the device as an audio adapter, to use its full functions you'll need a driver.

Live Bookmark Feed failed to load. I cannot view any footage on BBC News site. Also I can no longer view images I have uploaded to a website. This has all materialised overnight. Please help.

I have been uploading pictures of booksd to ABE.com for ages. I am able to view these images on the site. Today, without warning, I am unable to do this. Coincidentally, I note that I can no longer view film footage on the BBC news pages. The Latest Headlines column is also showing "Live Bookmark Feed failed to load". Please help.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
*Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
*Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
*Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.
Make sure that you do not block third-party images permissions.default.images

There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.
Try to remove the current Latest Headlines feed and create a new feed.<br />

In moderation

The current status of moderation on this forum is confused to say the least. In recent weeks there have been numerous and flagrant breaches of the terms of use of the forum and I for one am increasingly disinclined to be associated with it.
If arch offered any form of commercial product there is absolutely no way that this kind of abuse of the forums would be allowed to take place.
Just because the software is free doesn't mean that users are free to be as abusive as they like.
I propose the adoption of several precautions, which I would like to open for vote to all forum users (in separate threads):
· Terms of use displayed in a thread on the forum, along with the results of any decisions made here
· Anonymous moderators. I was formerly a moderator at another distro and being a moderator actually prevented me from saying the things i would like to as i felt it may be perceived as representative of the distro and that I had to be seen to be impartial in non-distro business. Of course this works the other way, you might be more unlikely to carry out necessary mod tasks if they can be associated with you personally, plus it reduced the likelihood of you getting stick for decisions. I believe this is critical for effective moderation.
· Temporary locking of "objectionable" threads for review and vote by all moderators with one of the following outcomes: · thread remains locked with explanation
· thread unlocked
· thread deleted with explanation
Clearly this requires a communication mechanism amongst mods, mod informs other mods when a topic is locked, peer review is a key requirement
· Temporary suspension and bannings actually used – mods should be allowed to issue "cooling off" bans as they see fit, more permanent bans and warnings should be open to peer-review. I consider banning extreme but some people just do not respond sometimes.
· No abuse of the moderators should be tolerated, hence i believe it is vital that they are separated from their forum personalities, they are simply enforcing the rules that everyone has agreed to follow. They have also agreed that the moderators may enforce these rules and so moderators should not be penalized for taking on such an unrewarding role.
If people could be trusted to participate without being abusive then we could happily dispense with moderators full stop.
· Simply more moderators, at least for the time being
I can state from experience that it is no fun being a moderator when you actually have to deal with something serious.

i always advocate self-moderation over the intervention of the mods.
i second dibble on that one.
Maybe somewhere put a lightweight/humoured guide, that users wont balk at reading, somewhere positionally that gives it higher priority than having to search hard for a "rules of etiquette" section.

Imagine you're now helping a friend post this, and would like said friend to get a favourable response.
As a moderator would you advise him to
a: Hit Post
b: Modify the Post for technical accuracy / Rules of Etiquette
c: Scrub the Post as its looking like a flame/troll/personal grievance
d: Advise your friend to give up on Forums as its affecting his/her blood pressure.
Regarding Moderators and numbers, too many and theres gonna be a disjointed response, and maybe a tendency to wield power as personal justification.
i also think that use of mod privledges to have your say and disallow feedback is a questionable action myself

ive seen at least one post, continued as a lively discussion, after being forked off by the initial poster, then Locked by said poster as the topic wasnt going in the direction he intended. That was the Forked topic, not his original.
That smacks of censorship, not moderation.
Possibly its down to delegation and the quality of it.
Imagine Judd having to trust no one but himself, and moderate personally, then show up at the next distrowatch interview and say, "well the distro has gone to bits, but hey, i got the forums really locked down".
havent coder/maintainers/devs or what got enough on their hands without having to keep the playground in order as well ?
on a high note, has anyone else noticed the forums have actually quietened down, as in more peaceable, the last few days.

Hello i've been cropping and editting and now suddenly when i click on a photo to enlarge full screen i get " unsuported image format"" thats so terrible because now i cant export them end email files..

Look - this has been reported in these discussions so many times and by so many people and for so long - that everyone and their granny knows this is an Aperture PROBLEM (?bug?)
With me it occurs every time when I edit large .tiff or RAW files (around 60 MB) and can only get 20 done - before 'Unsupported File Format' and the dreaded red screen! Closing and then re-opening Aperture is the only solution (and I have tried ALL thos suggested on these many threads re this problem!
I have emailed Apple so many times (and I guess so have others) - so far, to my knowledge they have not even recognised that this exists. Even in this thread you can see 'it may be a bug' ??? what does this mean EXACTLY (William Lloyd) ???
Come on Apple - as well as the fab hardware we need RELIABLE photo editing software - and. for me Aperture is great - until it requires to be shut down and re-started every 30 minutes!

Waiting for moderator approval

Hiya,
So I wrote a blog in the HDE space a few weeks, and published it today. It's this one: Tamas Szirtes, HANA Distinguished Engineer and Linguist.
Then I wrote another blog for the next HDE, but I pressed the save button so I could publish it when ready. Then I got the message "Waiting for moderator approval".
I'm guessing there's some sort of throttling thing going on if you write blogs too fast? And there's a bug where it thinks when I write a blog but press save, I'm spamming?

TS1365 My Macbook Pro (mid 2009) is on the second power cord and I am having the same problems as I did with my first. It won't charge. Is this normal to have this happen twice? Is the computer causing the problems?

I got a spammy e-mail today, which was suprising cause i almost never do and if i do I don't see them on gmail. I clicked through the link stupidly after skimming it because ive become so accustomed to not getting spam that I forget. Firefox gave me a big warning page so I never made it to the site, but an hour later i get a popup from Little snitch:
It actually just happened again as I was posting this. Is this a coincidence? I was trying to mount an outside harddrive, one that was formerlly attached to a previous OS installtion that had some nasty malware problems.

After installing Mac's Mountain Lion I'm having a lot of Firefox crashes--Coincidental or not?

Firefox has been frequently crashing since I installed Mac's new Mountain Lion OS.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

Wow this is a long running thread!
I've discovered, since having to start using check in/check out on a site with multiple editors ('put on save' being a minor version of this), that Dreamweaver is like a nosy neighbour, more concerned with what is going on outside than with your petty demands. So Dreamweaver is constantly checking to see whether any files are in use by anybody else. When it is good and ready it will allow you to interact with the server. If your connection is anything other than rocket powered you will spend ages waiting and looking at messages such as the above. It doesn't have the sense to stop and just check the file/s you want to put or get and then let you get on with it. And of course the bigger the site, the more checking it has to do. If your connection is really slow you will have the added pleasure of constant freezes, aberrant behaviour and crashes. I have this with CS4. I don't know if CS5 is any better. And don't expect any improvement on CS4. You are stuck with it.
