MDT 2013: Wizard Pages by Task Sequence

I believe what I am trying to do is not possible from previous readings on this forum, BUT then I see something in my MDT 2013 OSD wizard that seems to indicate there might be a way to get it done. So here goes.
For my own demos, I am trying to develop a deployment share that is much like Johan Arwidmark's hydration kit. Some machines, like a domain controller or a SQL cluster are all well-defined: computer names, IP addresses, etc. are fixed and can be set
in customsettings.ini or in the Task Sequence with variables. However, I would also like the ability to have to deploy a "generic" machine where I can select roles, applications, etc.
This would require having different wizard pages shown for different task sequences. From what I've read, this may not be possible without developing a custom wizard (and that might be too much effort). However, I currently have two task sequences and depending
on which one I select, I see a different number of steps to complete? See screenshots. I don't know what I have currently configured that makes it like that.
(when I select "Domain Controller 01" task sequence) (Task sequence ID "DC01")

I would expect the settings for task sequence "DC01" to be applied after I select that task sequence in the wizard. That doesn't seem to work. The first task in the sequence is a "Gather" task that gathers local data and processes customsettings.ini.
I understand I can't override most settings from [Default] because they would have already been processed but as you can see, that's not what I am actually trying.
I am not opposed to having multiple rules files if that would work. However, it seems like that doesn't make much difference when it comes to actually seeing different wizard steps active. I've tried adding a second customsettings_dc01.ini file and having
a Gather step that specifically references that file in the "Initialize" group.
I've considered some alternatives to making it work this way, such as having multiple deployment shares and "linking" them (although I haven't done this before) so I wouldn't have to copy all the applications.
I would also set the computer name and all in the task sequence using variables, but that still doesn't address the problem.

SpeedBird186 - There are several assumptions going on here.
1. by default MDT processes the CS.ini file *before* the wizard, and *after* the Task sequence has started. If you want CS.ini file to be processed just *after* you select your TS in the wizard, use Johan's trick above.
2. There are about 20 different wizard pages, and they don't appear in *all* scenarios. the wizard framework will attempt to do an intelligent job of filtering out pages that are not relevant to the scenario at hand. For example, in the graphic above, you
can see that the OS roles and Features page will appear/disappear. This can happen for example if the task sequence you selected earlier does or does *not* have a "OS Roles and Featrues" step in the Task sequence.
3. For me, the easiest way to process roles would be to create some new "Applications" and to put them in a folder.

MDT 2013 Wizard page not skipping

Hi all,
I am trying to reduce the amount of user intervention required for MDT 2013 to deploy a Windows 7 SP1 32 bit system from a Windows Server 2008 Standard box and I'm progressing well however, I've discovered that a wizard page won't skip. Specifically the
one that asks you to confirm time, time zone and date settings which appears right before MDT progresses to installing applications.
Here are the rules I have configured for my deployment share:

what I've found, is that although MDT will set the correct keyboard location and time zone settings, it still asks me to confirm it before proceeding to the installation of applications.
Am I missing anything? Does the order of the rules matter? Not sure what else to do.

Is it possible to apply a GPOPACK to Windows 8.1 in MDT 2013/ADK for 8.1

We are aware that SCM does not have a basline for Windows 8.1. I have seen Johan post about adding the code to the ZTIApplyGPOPack.wsf for support for Windows 8.1. Also do we need to update GPOPack.wsf located in \Templates\GPOPacks\Name of GPO
PACK.
So what is the best approach for creating and applying a GPO PACK to Win 8.1?

If I remember correctly what I did, this is how I went about it.
1. Create the Windows 8.1 GPO Pack using LocalGPO from SCM 3.0
To use LocalGPO you have to edit "LocalGPO.wsf" to add support for 8.1.
In "Sub ChkOSVersion" just add the lines to provide support for 8.1 (and 2012 R2 while you're there)
To do this, just copy the 4 lines for 8 and 2012, paste them above the lines you just copied, and then edit them
It should look like this after the edit:

Since you are only exporting, this should be the only change that is needed. If you were doing other functions, you would need to edit those.
2. Edit "GPOPack.wsf" in your newly created GPO Pack to provide support for 8.1 (and optionally 2012 R2) in the same way you did above.
3. Copy your GPO Pack to your deployment share
4. Edit "ZTIApplyGPOPack.wsf" to provide support for 8.1 (and optionally 2012 R2) using the same copy, paste, and edit technique that was used above. The section should look similar to below:

5. If you use the standard naming convention for your GPO Pack, you are done. In other words, if you name your GPO Pack "Win81-MDTGPOPack", then you don't have to worry about adding anything to your customsettings.ini. It will automatically know
to use this one for your Windows 8.1 Task Sequences.
It would be nice if Microsoft fixed all this in the next update of MDT2013 and SCM.

KeyboardLocale and SystemLocale during UDI Wizard (MDT 2013)

We're using SCCM 2012 R2 integrated with MDT 2013
we deploy Windows 7 with Task Sequence process with UDI Wizard
we have 2 main problems regarding the Language Settings
1. in the wizard we define UserLocale, KeyboardLocale and UILanguage, OSDTimeZone
what about SystemLocale ? which is very basic to set, but there is no built-in combobox for it.
the only workaround I can come up with is to build a custom page with that setting but it is hard to create a combobox with all the available languages, even when editing the XML directly and not via the UI.
2. if I set the KeyboardLocale to Hebrew for example in the Wizard, the SMS environment variable is set to 0409:0000040d
this causes the deployment to end with Hebrew installed with US keyboard layout. which is wrong!
I expect the value to be 040d:0000040d (Hebrew keyboard with Hebrew layout)
which brings me to another question... how can I define multi keyboards? because my actual goal is to have English as my default keyboard language and to have Hebrew as a secondary keyboard.
it is not Hebrew in particular. we deploy Windows in 20 different sites worldwide and English should be always be the default language and we want to add another local additional language
I added a script that modifies the keyboardlocale and converts it from 0409:00000### to 0409:00000409;0###:00000###, but I feel like it is too much for this little setting that should be so basic...
any help will be appreciated. thanks

MDT 2013: bootstrap.ini not applying username and password for share access

I customized my bootstrap.ini file to skip the welcome screen, set keyboard locale, and enter a service account username and password for share access. The welcome screen skip and keyboard locale work beautifully but it's not applying the share username/password/domain
at all.

Basics - Server 2008 R2 - SP1, WDS, MDT 2013
Well all, I've done this at least 20 times today and the deployment share info is still wrong...
Someone else built and messed with this thing so i'm trying to fix it. We have 2 MDT servers and 1 WDS that is on the Production MDT. I've turned the test MDT off.
It was working fine, until I updated the deployment share ... after adding some drivers for the surface pro 3 for the pxe boot

I've deleted all the .wim and associated files from all locations from the deployment share\boot folder and from the wds remote install\boot\x64\images folder where they are instead of the remote install\boot\images folder that everyone refers to.
I really can't figure this one out... I know it's something simple I'm over looking but I can't see it..
Any ideas..

Windows RE for Windows 7 in MDT 2013

Hi, I have Windows 2012 R2 installed with MDT 2013, I need to deploy some Windows 7 machines and I need the option "Run the Windows RE" at boot, I only get "Run the Deployment Wizard" and "Exit to Command Prompt", how can
I add Windows RE to the menu for Windows 7 deployments?

You don't mention what version of the WAIK/ADK you have installed with MDT 2013, this is important.
You must install the *full* OS sources for the *client* OS that corresponds with the same build number as the WAIK/ADK version you have installed.
If you installed the *latest* Windows 8.1 ADK version then you should import the Windows 8.1 *full OS* sources into your MDT environment (even though you are using Win7). Once there, rebuild the WinPE images from scratch.

Mdt 2013 refresh wizard canceled as soon as I authenticate

I've been after this for a week or so now. I'm trying to run a POST OS Installation task, something I've done many times before, but always in MDT 2010. I"m now trying to kick off MDT 2013 from Windows 7 x64, and I get as far as being prompted for credentials.
As soon as I enter my credentials, MDT quits and cleans up, immediately. Literally 1 second later according to the BDD.log. Nothing unusual seems to be recorded in the logs.
If I try to run it again without deleting the MININT folder, it usually succeeds. If I then cancel out of the Task sequence menu without choosing anything and try it again, it fails again. Is this some type of bug? I've googled extensively, can't find anything.
I've removed all software that has been updated recently from the PC, no AV is installed, nothing that should be stepping on anything.
I'm running from an elevated prompt, like so:

I think it may have to do with the EVENTSHARE being defined in the bootstrap.ini file, somehow that is forcing MDT to setup a new connection to

Might be some kind of weird race condition in the Litetouch.wsf code. The progress bar UI fluff is pretty complex.
My recommendations would be to place EVENTSHARE into the cs.ini file rather than the bootstrap.ini file to see if that fixes things.
Otherwise just commenting out the code above, I’m not 100% sure why it’s there to begin with.

Has anyone added a custom wizard pane in MDT 2013?

I'm trying to add a couple of panes I created for 2012 and they don't seem to be showing up. At first I tried using the MDT Wizard Editor, but it apparently doesn't support 2013 yet. I also tried to hand edit the whole thing and that doesn't
seem to be working either.
Has anyone done this successfully? If so, could you provide some hints or walkthroughs on what might have changed in MDT 2013?

Yes, I *think* I've done all of that. I'm really just exporting work that I did to my MDT 2012 environment. It just never sees or displays my added XML files. If everything is the same between 2012 and 2013, then I'll go back to tearing
my hair out. I was hoping there was something different. Here's an example of what I have:

For %TaskSequenceID% no longer working in MDT 2013.

I've used the blogs by Michael Niehaus to get MDT 2010 and MDT 2012 LTI deployment wizard application selection profiles working.
I'm now running MDT 2013 and when following the instructions here:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/mniehaus/archive/2012/09/04/revisiting-lti-deployment-wizard-application-selection-profiles.aspx, the MDT Wizard Displays the error: "No task sequences are available (TaskSequences.xml does not exist, is empty, or is inaccessible)."

Updating the deployment share seems to have resolved the issue.

MDT 2013 Roles and features failing to install for server 2012 r2

I am having issues trying to apply Server 2012r2 Roles and features via MDT 2013.

I have narrowed this issue down to .net 3.5 install.
I have boot, efi, sources, support, autorun, bootmgr, bootmgr.edi, and setup.
I have confirmed that the sxs folder is there.
I also just added WindowsSource=%DeployRoot%\Operating Systems\Windows Server 2012 R2 SERVERSTANDARDCORE x64\sources\sxs to my customsettings and updated the boot iso. I am still receiving the errors.
One last bit of information I am able to get to the deployment share with the sxs folder in it from the reference machine I am creating but when I manually try to install .net 3.5 from roles and features to the share it fails. But if I copy the files local
they work fine.
I seem to have permission issues with other subfolders also.

MDT 2013: WinPE Screen Resolution for Tablets not adapted

Hello guys,
I'm using MDT 2013 to deploy Windows 8.1 on tablets.
So, after generated the boot image including the right drivers inside, I boot up my tablets through WinPE (Boot on LAN).
Once WinPE initiated, I'm now in the Deployment Welcome Screen with a very low resolution. The welcome screen filled the entire screen. Worse, the next window is bigger than the screen.
So my question is, how to handle with this behaviour?

I've read few posts about injecting an Unattend.xml file in the boot image including this link you mentionned.
I'm not sure to be right but what I did is the following:
1) create a file called Unattend.xml with the following content:

2) put it in my "extrafolder" in order to be imported when I create the boot image through MDT.
3) once created, checked that the Unattend.xml file is in the root of my boot image wim file
4) import the new boot image into WDS
So, I've tested the new boot image in at least 3 different kind of computers (tablet, laptop and desktop), the result is the same: the machines restart automatically when they try to load the MDT Welcome environment.

Limiting Bandwidth usage for MDT 2013

Hello Technet,
I recently built up a MDT 2013 platform (on server 2k8R2) for deploying our Windows 7 image to over 125+ computers in our building at the same time. Our deployment server, which is a VM, is located on the same host and switch as our web server
(not my design) and I am forced to limit the bandwidth usage to only 50%. I know WDS was/is able to limit bandwidth usage when multicasting, but I haven't found anything online about MDT being able to limit it.
Do I need to have the WDS role installed on my server to limit the bandwidth or can MDT 2013 do this for me. As always, any and all help is appreciated!

Using MDT 2013 for deploying Software from MDT Server to PC Client automatically and silently ?

I have a trouble about deploying software from MDT 2013 server to PC Client , Can we using MDT 2013 for deploying software automatically and silently , that Users/Clients don't have to click "next,next" to install software ?
