Modifying a note in Data Modeler

There is a note in an ERD that I created with Data Modeler. I just edited it and clicked OK, but the changes I made do not show up in the note. As a test, I created a new note and added and deleted text to it several times and saw my changes appear. So why can't I see the changes that I just made to the original note?

It seems you are using 2.0 version of Data Modeler. It's refresh problem - just click on note and you'll see changed status. Probably note dialog is covering your new note and it's refreshed when dialog is closed.

Hi Patrick ,
What user did you use to start JSPM? Was it <sid>adm? Also based on the error it seems there is something wrong with DataModel.xml JSPM uses. And you've mentioned it was copied from another system if I get it right.
So as a quick workaround you could try removing:
- Jspm.DataModel.xml
- Jspm.J2EE.DataModel.xml
- Jspm.JSPM.DataModel.xml
from ../j2ee/JSPM/data/variables directory and give JSPM another try.
Please make sure the rest of the XMLs are in place otherwise JSPM won't start.
Regards,
Vasil

• Discard the Modified version of the data model

Dear all,
In BI 7.0, I have created a cube and activate it. Then, we modify the cube and save . The system now have 2 version(A & M) of the cube. If I decide that I don't want the modified version of the cube, is there any way we can delete the modifed vesion and do the enhance from activate version of the cube?
Best Regards,
Jeff

In BW 3.5 there is a menu entry InfoCube -> Cancel Changes. This removes your changes and sets it back to the activated version. You should have the same entry in BI 7.0.
Best regards

• Can "trigger" management be addressed in the data modeler?

Please add an easier way to add/modify triggers.
I reverse-engineered my model into the data modeler and my triggers all migrated correctly to the model but, for the life of me, had no idea how to view, modify or create triggers. After extensive research, I found that they can be accessed in the left-hand Browser by drilling some 8 levels to view the triggers for each table - why? Why can't this functionality be added to properties context menu for the table. I'm not a big advocate for triggers but if I need to work on one, the current methodology is tedious at best.
Of course, if there's some other way to do this, please inform...
Accessing Triggers via the Browser
Design -> Relational Model -> APEX_DEMO -> Physical Model -> Oracle Database 11g -> Tables -> ACTIVITY_LOG -> Triggers

Thanks Joop and Phillip...
While I occasionally use SQL Developer, I currently use PL/SQL Developer (Allround Automations) as my development tool of choice and bringing a 3rd tool as SQL Developer into the mix, makes no sense to me.
I completely agree that managing a trigger via a development tool is much easier but one occasionally wants to quickly add a trigger either manually or via a template and this is not easy currently.
While functions, procedures, package, etc. are all important to a data model, the existence of most triggers are completely dependent on a table and are a critical component in any model that uses them. The ability to access and modify them easily in Data Modeler is important and shouldn't be an afterthought as is perceived here. If trigger access cannot be added to the Table Properties (as noted in the image below), at the very least, please provide a shortcut methodology to do so.

• How to edit BI Publisher Report Data Model in Fusion Apps?

Hello All,
I am experiencing issues while modifying the BI Publisher data model in Fusion Apps. Here is the summary of issue, Please assist me.
Issue: I have modified the SQL query of Data Set in Data Model, while saving it is prompting for Flex Filed, Parameter Values. I could find the parameter values from default package , but i dont see the Flex Fields values in package. Can you please assist me where can be these Flex Fields are defined in Fusion Apps.

When you go into the Edit Dashboards page, do you see a BI Publisher icon to your left? just drag and drop that into your page and then click on properties to include your BI Publisher report. If you get an error then check(only after doing the above) whether you have these entries in your InstanceConfig.xml

• MySQL functionality within Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler

Hi all,
I've read a few forum posts here that lead me to believe that MySQL is not currently supported by the data modeler tool (Link #1 I got to by clicking on the Statement Of Direction link on the main page SQL Developer Data Modeler</title><meta name="Title" content="SQL Developer Data Modeler"&g… Link #2 I got to by doing a search on the word MySQL within the forum search):
Link 1:
SQL Developer Data Modeler Statement of Direction
Link 2:
Can datamodeler be used with MySQL?
SQL Developer (not the Data Modeler tool, but the database admin-type tool not for modeling) does support MySQL using the latest MySQL Connector J 5.1 driver but, strangely, it doesn't seem the Data Modeler supports it, though. Can anyone please confirm that MySQL is currently unsupported for the Data Modeler tool? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
it doesn't seem the Data Modeler supports it, though.
Data Modeler doesn't have specific support for MySQL - i.e you cannot generate DDL for MySQL. Though you can import form MySQL server using JDBC connection in standalone DM or using created MySQL connection if you are using DM inside SQL Developer.
You can import definitions for tables(columns, PK and UK constraints, indexes, foreign keys) and views.

• 30EZ2 - Strange message from Data Modeler Viewer.

I am getting a strange message from Data Modeler Viewer when I try to shutdown SQLDeveloper.
I have not used data model viewer, but on shutting down sqldevloper I get

• CM14 BI Publisher - modifying an existing Data Model, the Graphic View in Query Builder does not display

I am trying to edit the default forms/reports that come with CM14, trying to edit the data model, data set, (to get to the old Infomaker style graphic view) , the Query model does not display (error the list of tables is too long..) Oracle tell me the limit is 60, there are not 60 tables referenced in any CM report.
Does this Query builder view work at all on any report?
(bigger question, we are moving from CM12, should we move to CM13 which works with infomaker?)
Thanks,
Paul L

Kurt, thanks for your replies.
A couple of notes/clarifications.
1. You are correct that BI works better in Firefox--I have observed issues with the BI display when using IE. I would recommend using Firefox too.
2. You are correct about the way to get to the Query Builder to see a graphical view of data tables. There are basically two issues with this that I mentioned, but will re-iterate:
a. If you have an EXISTING query in the data set, then click the "Query Builder" button, this will remove the existing query that's there, it will NOT display the existing query in the query builder. Query Builder works only to create a NEW query from scratch.
b. Query builder is limited to selecting 60 fields max in your query. If you are creating a large report with many tables, you may find that 60 fields is not enough. For that you will have to work in the SQL edit screen rather than using the query builder.
I would impress on anyone developing CM14 reports that they become familiar with the database schema and relationships to avoid problems when developing your BI reports. You should be able to find the tables and joins documentation in the knowledgebase.

2) In options to manage the Table report (Reports -> Manage). Currently I can only remove a heading (like Descriptions Notes ,columns, column comments.). Is there is any way to customize the report in such a way that I can remove some columns (mostly the empty ones) from the report and add the column comments along with the column table than a new column comments table.
Please let me know ,is there is an option to customize the report .
Note: I even tried generating the report using the search then report , but it doesn't give a complete report (i was only able to generate a report on column or table name or constraints , not all together.)

• Not able to save a newly created Data Model in BI Publisher.

Hello everyone,
I was trying to create a new Report (my very first report) in BI Publisher. I created a new Data Model and a Data Set. But I am not able to save the Data Model and thus not able to proceed to the report. There's no error shown. Same happens with reports too.
Kindly provide me with a solution.

You should have a group called 'XMLP_ADMIN' in your repository and administrator or the user you are using should be part of that group. Look into paint.rpd for all these.

• Using MODEL clause and COUNT for not numeric data columns....

Hi ,
Is it possible somehow to use the COUNT function to transform a non-numeric data column to a numeric data value (a counter) and be used in a MODEL clause....????
For example , i tried the following in the emp table of SCOTT dataschema with no desired result...
SQL> select deptno , empno , hiredate from emp;
DEPTNO EMPNO HIREDATE
20 7369 18/12/1980
30 7499 20/02/1981
30 7521 22/02/1981
20 7566 02/04/1981
30 7654 28/09/1981
30 7698 01/05/1981
10 7782 09/06/1981
20 7788 18/04/1987
10 7839 17/11/1981
30 7844 08/09/1981
20 7876 21/05/1987
30 7900 03/12/1981
20 7902 03/12/1981
10 7934 23/01/1982
14 rows selected Now , i want to use the MODEL clause in order to 'predict' the number of employees who were going to be hired in the 1990 per deptno...
So , i have constructed the following query which , as expected, does not return the desired results....
SQL> select deptno , month , year , count_
2 from
3 (
4 select deptno , to_number(to_char(hiredate,'mm')) month ,
5 to_number(to_char(hiredate , 'rrrr')) year , count(ename) count_
6 from emp
7 group by deptno , to_number(to_char(hiredate,'mm')) ,
8 to_number(to_char(hiredate , 'rrrr'))
9 )
10 model
11 partition by(deptno)
12 dimension by (month , year)
13 measures (count_ )
14 (
15 count_[1,1990]=count_[1,1982]+count_[11,1982]
16 )
17 /
DEPTNO MONTH YEAR COUNT_
30 5 1981 1
30 12 1981 1
30 2 1981 2
30 9 1981 2
30 1 1990
20 4 1987 1
20 5 1987 1
20 4 1981 1
20 12 1981 1
20 12 1980 1
20 1 1990
10 6 1981 1
10 11 1981 1
10 1 1982 1
10 1 1990 As you see , the measures for the 1990 year is null...because the measure(the count(deptno)) is computed via the group by and not by the MODEL clause...
How should i transform the above query... so as the "count_[1,1982]+count_[11,1982]" will return non-null results per deptno...????
Thanks , a lot

• BI Publisher: not able to see the xml data after creating a data model

I am learning BI publisher and trying to create a report data model
I created a new data model from the report tab, use query builder, able to see the results. Then i save it and try to launch XML view from clicking View .
I am getting unexpected exception, not able to see the XML view .
in the server console i got servlet exception, here is one of the line
com.evermind.util.ReleasableResourcePooledExecutor$MyWorker.run(ReleasableResourcePooledExecutor.java:303

Hi karthik
Thanks for your response
Actually iam a beginner in java coding hence struggling to come up with the things
I tried putting your code and onserver side i see it is returning 09:12:17,234 INFO [STDOUT] [root: null]
actually the same program i wrote in java
and the same method i was calling from the main
and it is working fine and the xml document is getting displayed one important thing to be noted here is that the factory.newDocumentBuilder().parse(new File(filename));is returing XmlDocument
and the printing takes place
but the in same method public static Document parseXMLFile(String filename, boolean b) in servlet
the line factory.newDocumentBuilder().parse(new File(filename)); is returning DeferredDocumentImpl
and this creating problem , had it returned XmlDocument
i would have printed the elements one one
but as it is returning deferredimpl
iam unable to print the elements
could you please tell me why factory.newDocumentBuilder().parse(new File(filename)); is returning DeferredDocumentImpl
in servlets but in plain java pogram it is returing XmlDocument
Thanks

• 4.0 EA1 - Data Modeler does not show columns data types correctly

Data Modeler shows all columns data types as 'unknown'.

Hi,
you need to check "system data types" directory and it contents. Its default location in SQL Developer is sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\extensions\oracle.datamodeler\types
Check "Preferences>Data Modeler>Default system data types directory" setting. If it's empty then copy defaultdomains.xml from previous installation to directory above.
If it's not empty then you need to copy types.xml and defaultRDBMSSites.xml from default location to directory set as "Default system data types directory".
