30EZ2 - Strange message from Data Modeler Viewer.

I am getting a strange message from Data Modeler Viewer when I try to shutdown SQLDeveloper.
I have not used data model viewer, but on shutting down sqldevloper I get
Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler Viewer is waiting for tasks that should finish, such as writing files.

As reported in 30EA2: Data Modeler Viewer annoyance when exiting

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler Viewer - domain datatypes

I'm using the SQL Developer Data Modeler Viewer (that comes free with SQL Developer) to view a model that was created in Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (the chargeable product). The colums have all been defined using domain datatypes. I have an XML file defining the domains but I cannot see where in the viewer you can import a domian file into or where in the model's directory structure the file can be placed to be read by the viewer. Without this the columns are all showing as datatype 'Unknown'.
    Any help much appreciated, thanks.

two set of domains can be maintained in Data Modeler:
    - per installation - they are in file defaultdomains.xml in "datamodeler\domains" directory
    - per design - they are in "domains" directory under your design directory -
"Per installation" domains are used in your case - "per design" domains are "attached" to design - when you send the design to someone else, they are in design structure.
Your solution - to get defaultdomains.xml file from installation where design is created and to put it in your "datamodeler\domains" directory.

  • Create sequence from Data Modeler?

    Hi,
I started using SQL Developer Data Modeler to model my first APEX application, but there are one thing I don't understand.
From the logical model, I can create all my application model, but I don't find anywhere I can define thath my PK must be populated from a squence.
From APEX is a step in the wizard, creating the sequence and trigger, but If I model from Data Modeler, then, I "loose" this important feature common to mostly all my table objects.
    There are something I'm missing?
    Regards.

  • How can I print, save or export from Data Modeler

From Oracle SQL Developer I select Tools > Data Modeler, then drag a few tables on the surface. Both Print and Save options in the File menu are disabled. Also, there's no export option. What is the purpose of Data Modeler. I', using SQL Developer 2.1.0.63.

It's Data Modeler Viewer included in SQL Developer 2.1. You need SQL Developer 3.0 or 3.1 EA1.

  • How to do outer join in data model view?

    Hi,
I have 2 queries are needed to be joined in Oracle Report 6i Data Model View. What I want to do is below:
    where table1.receipt_no(+)=table2.receipt_no
How do I use the 'Data Link' to do this in Data Model view?
    Thanks.

    Hi
You need to use data links. Refer data link section in BUilding Reports manual at http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/docs/B10310_01/orbr_concepts1.htm#1013156.

  • 30EA2: Data Modeler Viewer annoyance when exiting

    Hi,
Almost always when exiting sqldev, I'm prompted with a dialog stating the 'Data Modeler Viewer is waiting for tasks that should finish, such as writing files', being able to Wait or Exit now. In the Log, I get an entry 'Delete Design: "Untitled_1"'.
Please make sure to clean up correctly before prompting such a dialog.
    Thanks,
    K.

    Hi,
I can confirm this is happening on me too.
I am confused, since I didn't invoke Data Modeler Viewer, yet the prompt appears just before prompting to Save the modified Worksheet.
This probably a minor bug, but hopefully to be addressed, since it is quite confusing.

AFAIK , its no. You can check the path from the show parameter command like following,
    SQL> show parameter spfile
    NAME                                 TYPE
    VALUE
    spfile                               string
    /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0

  • Calling a User defined function from Data Model in BIP

I am new to Procedures and Functions and am not sure if I am doing it right, so please bear with me.
    My User Function:
    create function MyTempFunction(@master_key varchar(max))
    returns VARCHAR(MAX)
    begin
    DECLARE @Names VARCHAR(8000)
    SELECT @Names = COALESCE(@Names + ', ', '') + vndt.name
    from
    [CMPROJ].[dbo].[VNDT] as vndt,
    [CMPROJ].[dbo].[CRQT_QUESTION_DISTRIBUTION] as CQD
    where CQD.parent_key=@master_key
    and CQD.project_name=vndt.project_name
    and vndt.initials=CQD.distributed_to_ini
    return @Names
endIf I call the function in my query window I get a result:
    "Ron Swanson, Anne Perkins"
But if I put the same query into my Data Model in BI Publisher and try getting the XML Output, my data is blank.
This is how I call the function:
select top 1 dbo.MyTempFunction('98d4dfa893164d138d5f961fa4') as Names from dbo.[CRQT_QUESTION_DISTRIBUTION]And I know that BIP did access the function, because the first time I tried to save the new SQL Query, it threw an error saying it was denied access to the function and I had to add the user to be able to execute the function.
I am new to doing Procedures and Functions, so I am not sure if I am even doing it right.
And don't know if even calling procedures or functions works form BIP.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, but I still get nothing in the XML result set.
I enabled some extra logging in the bipublisher.log file and I get an error:

  • Oracle BI Publisher no columns loaded from data model

    Hello Guys,
I use Oracle BI Publisher 11g. Have created a data model by using
the JDBC thin connection to a 11g database. The creation of the data model
worked fine using a SQL query. Now in the report creation wizard, I select
the "guide me" option to see how nice the wizard is.
The problem comes here, on the second window I should select the columns
but I only read "no columns available". Why is that?

    Hi Metalray
For BIP report sample XML data is importent. with sample data you cannot generate the BIP reports.
Follow the below steps, you can achieve your expected BIP output
After crating data set in the data medel save the data model then click on
--get XML output option on right side of the top-corner.
-- then selet no. for the nuber of rows to return dropdown option,
--then click on Run. Then save the sample data by clicking on Save as sample data option.
--then it will take you to the data model page, now again save the data model
--and use it for creating the reports.
Now you were able to see the available columns in the the second window of guide me option
please mark if it helps you..

  • How to print ERD from Data Modeler Tool

    Hello Everyone,
I have an oracle 10g DB and I want to create its ERD. I was able to export the tables using Data Modeler tools but I cannot find the option to arrange these table on pages and then print them. How can I do that? It's a very basic requirement and I am sure it must be here somewhere but I can't seem to find it.
    Regards,

    Hi Afraz,
there is no support for arranging tables on pages. For printing - use "File>Print" or "File>Print Diagram".

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler - View Engineering

I start with a Logical Model and forward engineer to a Relational Model.
I am using Name Templates and a glossary for all names in my model which enables translations from Logical names to Physical abbreviated names with _ separators.
When a View is created in a Logical Model and then forward engineered to a Relational Model, the resulting graphical image displays a translated physical name as the View name, however, the columns (or attributes) are displayed the same as the Logical versions (Full names with space separators).
Is this a design decision? I'm expecting to see the physical column names on the display.
The DDL of the generated view is correct with properly translated column names.
Also, In cases where I have multiple (alias) views of the same physical table, I would love the ability to apply a prefix in front of each column name during view engineering to give unique column names for each view representation. This is a recommended technique in dimensional modeling when using multiple view aliases so that reporting tools see distinct column names for each appropriate context.
    Thanks,
    Dan

This is a recommended technique in >dimensional modeling when using multiple view aliases so that reporting tools see distinct column names for each appropriate context.I logged ER for that. You can define alias for each column and that will solve the problem. Unfortunately it'll take more time.

Is there a Data Modller Version 3.0 availalbe? IF not, when will version 3.0 come out and will Version 2 Viewer work with a 3.0 Model ?

by creating a web application on top of the reporting schema tablesDiagrams are stored as PDF files there. So it's naturally to use those PDFs in database. Besides they are smaller, with better quality and text search can be used to find table or column on diagram. PNG file could be very big and it's just a picture, no text search.
