Modifying the sql

Post Author: rdorris
CA Forum: .NET
I'm creating a report against a MS SQL2005 server and have the need to change the sql command that's created by Crystal at run time. Some of the joins will need to change from inner to outer which seems easy to do using the TableLinks objects. However, when changed to a left outer join, I also need to add a few more selection criteria to the "on" phrase. Is there a way to do that via code? In other words, in the sql code "left outer join t2 on t1.id=t2.id" I need to add " and t2.username='rick' ". Not finding a way via code to modify the sql....
The other option is to use a command, but I'm not finding the appropriate class to set the sql at run time either.
Is filling a dataset and sending that to crystal the better/easier way to handle these issues?
Thanks for the help!

hi. I am in the same situation now.. I just want to set filter in the JOIN clause, rather than the WHERE clause. did you resolve this problem.
I tried to edit my left table datasource in code by using SetDataSource method of table object. when I watch from SQL profiler I saw that the sql which I used to setdatasource of table is executed for several times.
please help.

  • Modifying the sql query in doDML of entity

    I am using Jdev 11.1.1.4.0 and SQLServer Database
    I want to modify the sql query in "doDML(int operation, TransactionEvent e)"
    I could check what kind of operation like (operation == DML_UPDATE) and do some additional stuff.. But I want to edit the query because of which we entered doDML..
    I want to edit the query because when i use SQLServer database with SQLBuilder as SQL92, the update statement will have table alias like "update table <table alias>" which the SQLServer is not recognizing.. So I want to remove that alias from sql query in doDML..

    It isn't possible.
    However as per the following MSDN page a table alias is fine in an UPDATE statement so are you sure this is your problem?: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa260662(v=sql.80).aspx

  • Tuning an sql from a vendor product without modifying the sql statement

    Hi,
    we have a vendor product which generates SQL Statement. For one query, we get response in 15 seconds. But users are asking if we can bring it down to 5 seconds. Limitation is query can't be changed. It used around 10 to 12 tables and bit complex query.
    What kind of options could be evaluated if we want to improve performance of a query (Not sure if it could be ever reduced to 5 seconds)
    without making any change to the query.
    Database Version: Oracle 10.2.0.4
    Thanks,

    Thanks,
    SarayuI'd go through the standard stuff of "is there an index that can help?", "should these tables be in a cluster?" etc.. Problem there is that you might degrade other operations, and you might break your application support contract by modifying the schema. Even adding a materialized view could do that.

  • How to modify the SQL being generated from BC, to fix the issue

    Hi,
    We have seen a strange issue in our implementation.The issue is also reproducible in Vanilla environment.
    In Contact List Applet, if we Query in First Name or Last Name fields in UI, the Query being generated is,showing that, Siebel is Querying for first name in S_POSTN_CON.CON_FST_NAME. This is a normalized column for S_CONTACT.FST_NAME.
    This is causing the performance issue.
    When I check the configuration in Tools for Contact BC's First Name field, it is configured as follows.
    Join = S_CONTACT
    Column = FST_NAME.
    I do not understand, Why it is still querying in S_POSTN_CON.
    Any suggestions on how to fix this issue to make the Query to be performed on S_CONTACT.FST_NAME?
    Regards
    Vamshi

    Hi Vamshi,
    As Robert mentioned, there just happens to be a number of things that need to be analyzed prior to changing the shape of the buscomp that triggers that sql.
    If this siebel performance issue occurs on a production environment, you should certainly look at the performance trend/characteristics of that sql over time and assess its the impact on your business community (...), then carefully identify its -true- root-cause, implement a fix and validate it against a production-like environment in order to verify there is no regression associated with it; once the fix is deployed on your production system, you want to monitor its benefit overtime and on a 24x7 basis…all this may sound very generic yet good practices.
    If you are looking at -effectively- solving this siebel peformance issue (and others...) in a timely manner, best is to have your Siebel Teams 1)use a Siebel-specific performance monitoring software technology built by Siebel Architects (like GMT v1.8.5, more info @ www.germainsoftware.com) that is able to collect 24x7 all the data needed for root-cause analysis(and more..), and 2)have senior siebel architects (like Robert's team) that have successfully solved tones and severe performance and scalability issues for many years, provide technical guidance to your team throughout the resolution process.
    Siebel CRM is a great CRM software solution that is very complex. Every "switch you turn on/off", every customization you built into it may generate performance issues if it is not carefully implemented, optimized, tested...and monitored 24x7 once it is deployed onto your production system.
    Good luck w/ this..

  • Correct way to modify Advanced SQL in report

    The actual Select on the Advanced tab is something like this:
    SELECT Incidents."DATE" saw_0, Incidents."TYPE" saw_1, Defects."TYPE" saw_2, "Vessel and Boats"."NUMBER" saw_3 ...
    FROM "Vessel and Boats Reporting" (this is the catalog name)
    Now, I need to modify the sql I have tried using the columns in the From then an alias but it doesnt recognize the tables (see example below), how is this handled in the sql in obiee?*
    Trial 1
    SELECT I."DATE" saw_0, I."TYPE" saw_1, D."TYPE" saw_2, V."LR NUMBER" saw_3
    FROM Incidents I, Defects D, "Vessel and Boats" V
    Trial 2
    SELECT SIM.Incidents."DATE" saw_0, SIM.Incidents."TYPE" saw_1, SIM.Defects."TYPE" saw_2, SIM."Vessel and Boats"."NUMBER" saw_3
    FROM "Vessel and Hull Defects Reporting" SIM
    Neither of the trials worked. I guess I am getting it wrong, again how is this handled in the sql in obiee?*

    Hi user,
    in the advanced tab you need not mention the table name in from clause.
    your trial 2 looks ok but remove the subject area name in the table name
    try something like below,
    SELECT Incidents."DATE" saw_0, Incidents."TYPE" saw_1, Defects."TYPE" saw_2, "Vessel and Boats"."NUMBER" saw_3
    FROM "Vessel and Hull Defects Reporting" order by saw_0
    PS:your incident and defects and vessel and boats table should have proper joins between them.

  • Webi Extension Points - getting the SQL or DataProvider

    Has anyone used Webi Extension points to "extend" the BO XI R2 Java Report Panel?  Great concept - but seem like "all show".
    We have a requirement that prior to the Refresh of a report -  we modify the SQL.  I do not see a corresponding Interface for the "view SQL" and "change/freeze SQL"
    More importantly, I can not get to the DataProvider.   The
    IDataProviderPanel only has getName or getUniverseName?  I need com.businessobjects.rebean.wi.DataProvider.
    We cann't be expected to "decompile" ThinCadenza.jar?
    Help!?!?

    Ted!  You always answer the tough questions...thank you for your reply!
    Not only is it still a Lab project ...there is a contest using it and with the Rich client this mechanism can only prove to be more useful.
    No, we are not looking to filter the query - we are htting "several" schemas with the same SQL Unioned together based on some logic.  So we need to "modify" the final SQL.
    I understand that the RE is not exposed (wish it were) - but the neither is ALL the Java Report Panel UI.  If it were, we could "simulate the VIEW SQL button".
    Or can we?
    IQueryPanel Interfaced efines actions on the Query Panel.
    Related - MAIN_TOOLBAR constant Integer that represents the main toolbar of the Query Panel that conaitns the Add query button.
    The View SQL button is on the same toolbar.  Is there anyway to invoke it?
    Thanks, Chuck

  • How do I modify the WHERE clause in my SQL query?

    This seems like such a straight-forward part of the report design, but I'm fairly new to Crystal Reports and I only have experience with modifying reports someone else has already written.  In this particular case, I just need to modify the WHERE clause of the SQL query.  I can select Show SQL Query and see what statement is being used to select data, but I can't find where to modify it since it's grayed out.  I see how to change the selection criteria, parameters, grouping, etc...just not the WHERE clause.  The report is linked to a database used for reporting with a table created and populated by a stored procedure.  I don't need to modify the stored procedure because the data I want to filter by is currently in the table--I just don't know how to filter by what I need.  Here's part of the query:
    SELECT "rpt_dist"."startdate", "rpt_dist"."transtype", "rpt_dist"."laborcode", "rpt_dist"."crewid", "rpt_dist"."regularhrs" FROM   "Reporting"."dbo"."rpt_dist" "rpt_dist"
    WHERE  (rpt_dist."transtype" <> 'WORK' AND rpt_dist."transtype" <> 'WMATL') AND rpt_dist."laborcode" LIKE 'S%' AND (rpt_dist."crewid" = 'HOUS' OR rpt_dist."crewid" = 'HOUS2' ...
    I would like to add another crewid to the WHERE clause.  Thanks for any input.

    1.Open the report in the crystal designer
    2.Go to the field explorer(if hidden go to view menu->field explorer)
    3.Rt. click on the database fields->choose database expert
    4.Now you will see 2 columns-Available DataSource  and Selected Tables
    5.Rt. click on the object(ex.command) available in the Selected Tables column->Choose Edit command
    6.A new Modify Command window will appear,here you can edit your SQL Query
    I get to step 4 and I see the two columns including my database and the report table, but there is no command object available.  If I right-click on my table, I can just view the Properties. ??
    As for the other tip to modify the record selection:  I don't see anywhere the other crewid values are set and if I add the one I'm missing, it doesn't modify the existing SQL Query and when I preview the report it throws off the results so that no data displays??
    I'm using Crystal Reports 11.5 if that makes a difference.  Thanks again.

  • Can the format of a SQL Statement modify the execution time of an SQL ....

    Can the format of a SQL Statement modify the execution time of an SQL statement?
    Thanks in advance

    It depends on:
    1) What oracle version are you using
    2) What do you mean for "format"
    For example: if you're on Oracle9i and changing format means changing the order of the tables in the FROM clause and you're using Rule Based Optimizer then the execution plan and the execution time can be very different...

  • Modifying the credentials of SQL Server inside Netweaver

    Hi
           Can any one please let me know how can I modify the credentials of SQL Server instance which comes by default with Netweaver?

    Are you are referring to the NW database, which stores all the NW and MII administrative files and uses the SID for the database name?  If so I would post this on the Netweaver Forum, as I am not sure of the implications of changing this password.

  • How to modify the pre generated SQL string in Db adapter

    Hello All,
    I am using a DB adapter to poll a database. So in the configuration of adapter, i have specified the option of logical delete, i want to update to a field PF as 'Y'. In my BPEL process, I want to update those records as 'Y' for their process_Completion field after i am done doing logic on those records.. Actually in the database adapter configuration, we get the SQL string right ?. So inorder to edit that SQL how should we go ahead ?
    I mean i want to poll the database, i want to get like 1000 records for my BPEL Process Instance, and after all those 1000 gets processed and completed. Iwant to get the next 1000. So i want to write a query something like...
    select seqid, id, field1, field2..... from STable a where a.PF = 'N' and exists(select 1 from STable b where b.seqid = a.seqid - 1 and b.PF = 'Y' and b.process_Completion = 'Y')
    So, how to write my custom quesries while polling the database. cant we write custom quesries while we are doing Inbound operation with Dbadapter. Please help me with this thing.
    Thanks,
    N

    Whenever you use a JCA DB Adapter in JDeveloper it creates an OR mapping xml that contains the select/polling query that you might have.
    Below is an example of one such query. You can edit the sql here manually and redeploy your process.
    <querying xsi:type="query-policy">
    <queries>
    <query name="DBConnSelect" xsi:type="read-all-query">
    <call xsi:type="sql-call">
    <sql>SELECT MESSAGE_ID,BU_ID,CREATED_BY FROM MESSAGE_BUFFER where BU_ID IN (3232,4747) and 3 > rownum</sql>
    </call>
    <reference-class>DBConn.MessageBuffer</reference-class>
    <container xsi:type="list-container-policy">
    <collection-type>java.util.Vector</collection-type>
    </container>
    </query>
    </queries>
    In case you need to add parameters to your query you should be able to do that as well while you are creating your DB Adapter.

  • How to modify a SQL query?

    Hi all,
    I am using Crystal Reports version 10. I have a number of reports that have been written by a software vendor wherby the name of the database they were connected to when the report was written is coded into the FROM command of the reports SQL query, eg "GCUK_2" in the of the SQL snippet below.
    SELECT "Clients"."NAME", "Quotes"."QUOTE_ID", "Quote_Items"."UPRICE", "Quote_Items"."QTY", "Quote_Items"."UOM", "Quote_Items"."QUSAGE_ID", "Report_Control"."QUSAGEID", "Quote_Items"."STANDARD", "Quote_Items"."SECT_FLAG", "Quote_Items"."DISPORDER", "Quotes"."DESCRIPT", "Report_Control"."SECT_NAME", "Quote_Items"."CNT", "Category_and_Type"."TYPEDESC", "Quote_Items"."DESCRIPT", "Report_Control"."DISP_SORT"
    FROM   ((("GCUK_2"."schedwin"."QTE_CTRL" "Report_Control" INNER JOIN "GCUK_2"."schedwin"."QUSAGE" "Quote_Items" ON "Report_Control"."QUSAGEID"="Quote_Items"."QUSAGE_ID") LEFT OUTER JOIN "GCUK_2"."schedwin"."QUOTES" "Quotes" ON
    I have tried setting the Datasource Location, but it doesn't change the query at all. I have read on another forum that you can generate another SQL query using the Database Expert, Current Connections, then right click the Add Command for the database you want to create a SQL command. Is this the only way to update the database names in the query?
    Thanks,
    Scott.

    Hi Sourashree,
    Thanks for that. All the reports were created by the vendor using tables as opposed to the command object. I would have thought that changing the datasource would automatically cause Crystal to rewrite the SQL query syntax, but this doesn't appear to be the case.
    Yes, I've noticed that modifying the record selection will change the sql query. The only way I can see to change the database name in the query is to change to the desired databsource and then remove and re-insert the tables, which will then update the query with the correct name. However, this seems to be a convoluted way of changing the db name in the query.

  • VO Extension Error in modifying the query of XML Publisher Report Template

    Hi Friends,
    I have one requirement related to calling XML Publisher Reports Template from OAF Page.
    When clicking on the submit button the XML Publisher template is calling and displaying the data.
    Our requirement is to display some more columns in the XML Publisher Template and display the data.
    As according to OAF stndards,whenever we need to add new columns for display or SELECT purpose,

  • Would it be faster to use a trigger or modify the insert query?

    We have a table that currently has latitude, longitude columns and are trying to decide what route to go as far as adding spatial data to future records. A spatial index will be placed on the new column.
    There appear to be 3 solutions:
    1 Create a materialized view which creates the spatial column based on the current latitude and longitude columns.
    2 Create a trigger on the table that will populate the new spatial column on insert/update.
    3 Modify the code to insert a spatial value into the new spatial column.
    Due to the nature of the data we are not willing to use method 1.
    What we are trying to figure out is which method, 2 or 3, will insert faster.
    Has anyone done tests to determine if an insert with a spatial object is slower than an insert on a table with a trigger that creates a spatial object?
    Thanks,
    Pat

    Pat,
    Note that you don't need to store latitude, longitude in sdo_geometry type in order to spatially index it. Instead you can create a function that returns an sdo_geometry based on two numeric columns, then create a function based index on that. Its described here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e11830/sdo_exten.htm#i1005799
    Also note that in the sdo_geometry type, you need to define the data as longitude/latitude and not the other way around.
    If you do want to create a column with sdo_geometry column, I'd recommend your third option. As a general principle I avoid triggers unless absolutely necessary. Triggers invariably lead to confusion when you (or someone else) revisits this code in the future. Also the change of context between and SQL and PL/SQL has a performance hit. Here's a simple test:
    SQL> CREATE TABLE long_lat_no_trigger (
      2     geometry                SDO_GEOMETRY);
    Table created.
    SQL>
    SQL> CREATE TABLE long_lat_with_trigger (
      2     longitude               NUMBER,
      3     latitude                NUMBER,
      4     geometry                SDO_GEOMETRY);
    Table created.
    SQL>
    SQL> CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER long_lat_to_geometry
      2  BEFORE INSERT ON long_lat_with_trigger FOR EACH ROW
      3  DECLARE
      4  BEGIN
      5     :new.geometry := SDO_GEOMETRY(2001, 8307, SDO_POINT_TYPE(
      6     :new.longitude, :new.latitude, NULL), NULL, NULL);
      7  END;
      8  /
    Trigger created.
    SQL>
    SQL> SET TIMING ON
    SQL> INSERT INTO long_lat_no_trigger (geometry) (
      2     SELECT
      3     SDO_GEOMETRY(2001, 8307, SDO_POINT_TYPE(
      4     dbms_random.value(0,180), dbms_random.value(0,90),
      5     NULL), NULL, NULL)
      6     FROM DUAL
      7     CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 1000000);
    1000000 rows created.
    Elapsed: 00:00:31.96
    SQL>

  • DPM failing SQL backups due to error: "the SQL Server instance refused a connection to the protection agent. (ID 30172 Details: Internal error code: 0x80990F85)

    I ran across this error starting on 6/4/2011 and have been unable to find the root of the problem.  In our environment, we have a DPM 2010 server dedicated to backing up all our SQL envrionment (about 45 SQL Servers total).  All of the SQL
    environment is backing up fine except for a SQL Cluster Application.  This particular SQL Instances is part of a 6 node failover cluster with 6 SQL Instances distributed amongst them.  The other 5 SQL instances in the cluster are backing
    up fine; only one instance is failing.  The DPM Alerts section shows this error when attempting to do a SQL backup of one of the databases on this SQL instance:
    Affected area: KEN-PROD-VDB001\POSREPL1\master
    Occurred since: 6/11/2011 11:00:56 PM
    Description: Recovery point creation jobs for SQL Server 2008 database KEN-PROD-VDB001\POSREPL1\master on SQL Server (POSREPL1) - Store Settings.ken-prod-cl004.aarons.aaronrents.com have been failing. The number of failed recovery point creation jobs =
    4.
     If the datasource protected is SharePoint, then click on the Error Details to view the list of databases for which recovery point creation failed. (ID 3114)
     The DPM job failed for SQL Server 2008 database KEN-PROD-VDB001\POSREPL1\master on SQL Server (POSREPL1) - Store Settings.ken-prod-cl004.aarons.aaronrents.com because the SQL Server instance refused a connection to the protection agent. (ID 30172 Details:

     More information
    Recommended action: This can happen if the SQL Server process is overloaded, or running short of memory. Please ensure that you are able to successfully run transactions against the SQL database in question and then retry the failed job.

    I have checked the cluster node this particular SQL instance is running on using Perfmon and the machine is nowhere near capacity on CPU, memory, network, or Disk I/O.  I have failed this SQL Application to another node in the cluster and
    receive the same error (this other node has another clustered SQL application on it that is actively running as well as backing up fine).  The only thing that I am aware of that has changed is that we installed SP2 for SQL 2008 about 2 weeks prior
    to when the failures started to occur.  However, we updated all six clustered SQL Instances at the same time and only this one is having this issue so I don't believe that caused the problem.  We are running SQL 2008 SP2 (version 10.0.4000.0)
    on all clustered instances along with DPM 2010 (version 3.0.7696.0) on this particular DPM server that has the issue.
    One last thing, I have also noticed errors in the event log pertaining to the same SQL backups that are failing (but the time stamps are not concurrent with each backup attempt):

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Don't know if this helps or not, but I also noticed another peculiar issue that is derived from this problem.  If I go to "Modify protection group", then expand the cluster, then expand all six nodes in the cluster, five of them show "All SQL Servers"
    and allow me to expand the SQL Instance and show all databases; the one that is having a problem backing up, when I expand the node, doesn't even show that SQL exists on the node, when in fact, it does.
    I would also like to add that the databases on this node that will not backup are running fine.  They run hundreds of transactions daily so we know SQL itself is OK.  Even though it is a busy SQL Server, there is plenty of available resources as
    the SQL buffer and memory counters show the node is not under durress.
