Modifying XML to run a batch/burst on a Book With Multiple Connections

Figured I'd use the ENTIRE subject line.
Quick: I have a book that has multiple reports with multiple data connections. I wanted to create a batch and have it burst for a certain POV. Unfortunately because there are multiple data connections, it will only modify one report POV, not all associated with the book.
I exported the batch file and modified the XML file and called <Batch_POV_OVERRIDE> twice within the <BURSTING_OPTIONS> tags but it reduced performance significantly (1 minute to 12 minutes a report)
Question is, is there a better way to do this? I know this really relates to Hyperion BI Applications, but since this is in XML, I was hoping someone with experience in both could POSSIBLY help me.
Thanks in advance!

  • Running a Batch File on another Server with an Oracle Job

    hi, i have the following code
    BEGIN
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.CREATE_JOB (
    job_name => 'test_job_bat',
    job_type => 'EXECUTABLE',
    job_action => '\\10.1.1.63\test\test.bat',
    enabled => true,
    comments => 'test bat'
    END;
    So i want to run a batch file, which lies on another pc in the network
    The code runs, without a failure.
    The bat file just contains "MD D:\bla" .
    When i run the code, no bla directory is created, so it seems that the batch file never ran.
    i approved read/write on the test folder. (Windows 7 machine)
    any ideas?

  • FR v 11 Batch Bursting - passing 2 Dims

    We are trying to use the Batch Bursting tool and it works great for all our reports with only one DIM POV (ie Company). Running into issues trying to figure out how to burst when I have two different Dim's that I need to pass (ie Departmental Report - Company and Department). What complicates the issue is that we are assigning user access to each bursted .pdf report. I would prefer not to have 20+ different scheduled batchs, one for each Company and still not sure if that is going to work without having to have multiple copies of the report itself. Still trying to understand how bursting works in total. We migrated from useing Hyperin Enterpirse Reporting which had a much simpler bursting tool which allowed us to pass as many different Dim POV's as we wanted.
    Side question - When you create the .xml file you are assigning the different POV's that you want to burst. From the app you are only allowed to select one Dim. Is that correct or am I missing something or can you modify the .xml file directly to allow two or more Dim POV's to be passed. Adding the Bursting file to the .xml is simple and works.
    Our reports are setup to allow the user to select their POV and the report is set to show Current Member and children. In this fashion I only have to have one report and it can allow users to see parent information with children or just one child (example - we use this for Departmental reports. Controller would see all departments with summary department while Depart Mgr would only see their single depart). This works great when you have 20 + Companies with 40+ Departments each. One report works for all. Note this is only for users that have access to run the reports. Most of our users just get to view published reports - thus the bursting issue.

    Hi
    As far as I am aware the bursting does only allow you burst on a single dimension, but I'd be interested to know if anyone has managed to amend the XML to allow more.
    Possible workarounds bepend upon the current make up of your batch and what you want the output to look like. It sounds like you have a single report in the batch and want 20 x 40 individual PDF files as the output, the report itself having at least two dimensions on the POV?
    If this is correct then personally I would set up multiple books rather than multiple batches, but that is as much because I'm not that comfortable amending the XML files as any other reason. If you're not familiar with books then you can add multiple reports to a book (should you need to) and run any of the reports in the book for multiple POVs, the downside if you want seperate files is that a book will complete as a single file.
    Try setting up the 20+ books, each one with a different Company in the Book POV, you can then add all 20+ books into a single batch and burst them all on your Department hierarchy.
    Let me know if this is useful or just how you get on, more and more clients are wanting this functionality so always interested to hear how people are using this and how successful it is.
    Good luck

  • Running a batch file - VERY URGENT .. help

    Hi people
    I am attempting to run a batch file from with a JSP page.
    the code i am using is:
    Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
    Process process = runtime.exec("cmd.exe /c d:\\uploadfiles.bat");
    This jsp file is located on the c: of a webserver.
    the uploadfiles.bat is located on the d: of the webserver and the code is:
    copy d:\videos\008214?.rm d:\blah
    copy d:\images\008214.* d:\blah
    copy d:\xml\008214.* d:\blah
    cd \blah
    pkzip -es -m 008214.zip *.*
    copy 008214.zip d:\upload\008214.zip
    del 008214.zip
    If I run this batch file from a command line, it works fine, though when I try and call it through my JSP page, it doesnt do anything .. a command window just pops up for a while, and then closes.
    How can I fix this ... I need this quite quickly
    Thanks people

    1) It is O.K. that you see nothing in that console. Its output is captured by Java and is not displayed on the screen.
    In general, that console should not be visible, but actually it behaves differently according to JDK and OS versions (treat that as a feature).
    2). Look at this article:
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html
    It it does not answer your problem, try to search the forums:
    http://search.java.sun.com/search/java/index.jsp?qp=%2Bforum%3A31&nh=10&qt=%2B%22exec%22+-%22Replies%3A+0%22&col=javaforums
    Questions about Runtime.exec() has been asked hundreds of times.
    3) runtime.exec() can execute BAT files. It is not necessary to specify that "cmd /C".

  • Modifying XML files with JDOM

    Hi:
    I've been trying to get up to speed with JDOM, and while it seems pretty intuitive, I've been having a problem w/ modifying XML documents.
    Namely, once I get a Document object from a (skeleton) XML file, do changes made to the Document object through, say, addContent() propagate to the original file? My gut feeling is no, although this was certainly what I had expected initially.
    Here's a code fragment of what I had tried to do to populate a barebones XML file:
                   Document doc = builder.build(output);
              // add 100 elements, all the same
              for (int count = 0; count < 100; count++)
                   Element curr = new Element("book");
                   // create child nodes for book
                   Element title = new Element("title");
                   title.addContent("Book " + (count + 1));
                   Element author = new Element("author");
                   author.addContent("Author " + (count + 1));
                   Element price = new Element("price");
                   price.addContent("Price " + (count + 1));
                   curr.addContent(title);
                   curr.addContent(author);
                   curr.addContent(price);
                   doc.getRootElement().addContent( curr );
              }

    Mikael,
    This sounds like one of the many quirks (perhaps bugs) related to how FrameMaker handles non-FM files in books. The current book model doesn't play well with XML files as chapters and this seems like yet another problem. Apparently, if an xref does not target another .fm file in the book, Frame assumes that the target file is not in the book and therefore will not be in the book PDF.
    There have been discussions here about this in the past. The solution that I use is to run an API client before publishing that converts all XML files to .fm files, and redirect all xrefs appropriately. Then, book features work as expected and PDFs come out as normal. This is not feasible, however, without the automation from the API client.
    There may be some who would say that the best approach is to use XML and books the way that the designers did account for... that is, the whole book becomes an XML document with entity references to the separate chapters. In my work, though, this model was not appropriate... rather, I needed a binary FM book to act like a book, except with XML files as chapters. So, I think I understand your situation.
    Is API programming or FrameScript an option for you? I think it may be the only way to get what you are looking for.

  • Batch bursting reports with alternate aliases

    Using HFR 9.3.1 we are using the batch bursting option to generate multiple PDF files. One of the features we are using is the MemberAlias for the file names. This gives each file a different name based on the member alias in the POV.
    The issue we are running into is that no matter what I have tried, it will only leverage the default alias table. I have tried setting the alias table in the report to the alternate alias table, in fact when I open the report the member in the report is the correct alias from the alternate table. But the report label generated by the burst option is using the default alias.
    I also tried making the alternate alias table the "Active" alias table at the database level, which did not help either.
    Anyone come across this and figure out a way to get it to work properly?
    TIA

    Hi,
    If the reports are in the 'book' which is then bursted out then the 'book' property has the settings for the alias table to be used when the 'book' is run. You may want to try that option too.

  • Running the Batch Processor from a Java application (on schedule)

    Hello,
    I would like to run the Batch Processor (on schedule) from a Java application -- not from the Command Prompt.
    To achieve that, I suppose I would need to call a certain function contained in engine/determinations-batch.jar, using perhaps the path to the config xml as an argument.
    The trouble is that the OPA developer's guide doesn't mention it (or at least I didn't find it).
    Could you help me out?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Frank, but is there a way to identify this method and its syntax? I didn't find anything so far on the internet or on the dev's guide.
    This is the Java main method for the determination-batch.jar file - so the main method has the syntax:
    public static void main(String[] args)
    args is an array of strings matching the command line arguments described in the OPA Developer's Guide topic "Configure the Batch Processor".

  • DATASET_TOO_MANY_FILES  exception while running a  batch program

    Hi Pals,
    Can you pls help on the exception above?

    First check that you are doing a "close dataset" on any files you have finished with in your code... I've seen a lot of programs that don't do this specifically... you could also open a dataset, load the contents into an internal table, and close the dataset and then process the internal table (rather than having the dataset open for a long time during processing).
    You can also stick a "catch exception" after the "open dataset" which may pick up the problem you are having e.g. something like (not syntax checked):
    open dataset p_fname
      for input in text mode encoding default. "Unicode
    catch system-exceptions dataset_cant_open = 4.
      do.
        read dataset p_fname into l_data.
        if sy-subrc eq 0.
          append l-data to lt_data.
        else.
          exit.
        endif.
      enddo.
    endcatch.
    if sy-subrc = 4.

  • How to run a batch file (.bat) from forms? WEBUTIL_HOST.NonBlocking?

    I need to execute a batch file on the clients pc. Right now, I'm using:

    where the :Test.Batch_File_Name is something like C:\run.bat.
    This works to some extent. When it runs, I see a blank cmd.exe window and when I check my processes, I can see that run.bat is running. However, I need to be able to see run.bat as it executes because it outputs messages to the screen. Is there a way to call client_host or webutil_host that will display the batch file screen?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    With the Webutil Get_Standard_Output() , you can get the output strings and display them into your own Forms canvas ;o)

  • How to retreive the modified XML data?

    Hi..
    i had a problem in retrieving the modified xml data.
    Iam using apache's DOMParser
    In the my class my xml data is stored in a string.so i used following statement to read xml data from that string:
    String abc="<? xml version=... some data goes here"
    InputSource in=new InputSource(new ByteArrayInputStream(abc.getBytes()));
              DOMParser domParser = new DOMParser();
              domParser.parse(in);
              Document doc = domParser.getDocument();
              Element root = doc.getDocumentElement();
    and i did some operations like adding ,removing and replacing elements etc.
    It was fine when the checked the data.
    but..i need my modified xml data as String.
    is there any method to retrieve the modified xml data "as it is" in String?

    You can use XMLSerializer.

  • Problems Force Running a batch file

    Hi There,
    I am trying to force-run a batch file to copy files from a local NBO Appliance to the C:\tmp directory on the user's workstation. The batch file lives at c:\tmp\branding.bat.
    I cant get the batch file to force run. Zen reporting advises that the batch file has distributed and launched successfully, however the files do not copy.
    However, if i click on the icon for the batch file app - the files copy no problem. I have tried running Workstation Associated and (Unrestricted) User Associated as well as Workstation - Force Run as User.
    Path to executable file:
    %*WinSysDir%\cmd.exe
    Parameters:
    /c "c:\tmp\branding.bat"
    Any ideas? The batch file has to refer to the P: drive as the application covers 40 different sites each with their own appliance containing source files.
    Running NBO2 - ZFD 4 Agent 4.0.1.60 - Clientless
    Desktop XP Workstations
    Thanks
    Thax

    Have the app object copy the batch file to the hard drive from the
    server and then run it locally. This should work with a Middle Tier server.

    this is what i have
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("C:\\sync.bat");
    Now i need a way for the program to wait until this is finished running. I dont want to print anything until this is done. Is there a way to do this

    Will this even run sync.bat or do i have to do more.Here is my entire code

    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import javax.swing.*;

         public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res) throws ServletException, IOException
              res.setContentType("text/html");
              PrintWriter out = res.getWriter();

                   String [] listy = new String [100];
                   String [] products = new String[5];
                   String lists;
                   listy = what.list();
                   out.println("<form action =getBuilds Method = get>");
                   out.println("Please select which Product you wish to search in: ");
                   out.println("<br>");
                   int j = 0;
                   if(listy[j] != null)
                        products[j] = listy[j];
                        j++;
                   int i =0;
                   for(i = 0; i<listy.length && listy[i] !=null;i++)
                        out.println("<input type ='radio' name = 'product' value='"+dir+"\\"+products[i]+"\\build'>");
                        out.println(products);
                        out.println("<br>");
                   out.println("<input type ='submit' value ='Submit'>");

              catch(IOException e){}
              out.println("<img src='C:\\tomcat4\\webapps\\Tracker\\dancing2.gif'>");
