Module problems? (Network traffic dies, some devices stop responding)

I searched the forum and the web, but didn't see anything similar to this. I apologize if this has been answered before.
My problem is that my network traffic randomly just stalls. This happens approximately once a day, at a random moment, during load or no load at all. I don't know anything else than reboot that fixes the issue.
Logs contain the following lines, which are inserted at the time when networking dies:
modprobe: FATAL: Module ip_tables not found.
modprobe: FATAL: Module iptable_filter not found.
modprobe: FATAL: Module ip_queue not found.
nf_hook: Verdict = QUEUE.
nf_hook: Verdict = QUEUE.
nf_hook: Verdict = QUEUE.
nf_hook: Verdict = QUEUE. ....
Another thing is that after Arch has been up for few hours, I can't get my memory card reader working unless I remove and reload the module ehci_hcd. The reader always works straight after boot and after reloading ehci_hcd, but will stop working after some time. From log:
ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.7: port 4 reset error -110
hub 5-0:1.0: hub_port_status failed (err = -32)
hub 5-0:1.0: Cannot enable port 4.  Maybe the USB cable is bad?
These messages keep repeating.
Could these two problems be related? And what to do with them?

I dont think these logs are related. One is for the USB subsystem, the other for networking. They are completely different subsystems.
The networking issue is probably the most annoying so focus on that first.
IP_TABLES and IP_QUEUE are modules relating to ip filtering and queueing. I have to ask the obvious - what are your trying to do with your system. These modules are usually used in firewalls, servers, h/w routers etc. If you dont need them, blacklist them in /etc/rc.conf. Blacklist is deprecated "officially" however , for me it works fine in Arch. Just add the ip_tables and ip_queue to the line with BLACKLIST=() on and uncomment it.
Reboot.
If that doesnt work then something is trying to use these modules and hanging your internet IP packets. Without knowing your system and software install, its diffucult to diagnose and because I dont use this functioanlity, I am no expert but I am aware that ISPs use quite large queues and this can be shifted to a linux box.
nf_filter is the NET FILTER module , used to filter IP packets according to predefined criteria. Not sure why you need this, but I think there is some form of queuing in linux, there has to be given packet arrival in non-sync - has to be queued. If net-hook listed as a module, use "lsmod" as root. If its listed, blacklist it like the others.
Other than that, try a later kernel from www.kernel.org, rebuild it but make sure net filtering and queuing options are turned off.
I really dont know. Google !??

  • VISA read Problem: After a while the device stop responding

    Hi everyone,
I am facing a really strange bug that anything that I have done could not solve it. I have a PIC device that I made myself communicating with LabVIEW by a RS232 -> USB converter. Everything seems to be ok, but suddenly (it can last 30, 45 or 50 seconds), LabVIEW stops receiving data and any buttons do not respond anymore, not even the stop button. I have to remove the usb converter to get the buttons to respond again, and then I got the error:
Other programs that opens this same terminal can communicate with my device for hours without errors. I sure open the session and only close after the while loop. Can anybody help me?
    Solved!

    Hello,
Same problem for me! It can last 1 hour or 5 hours but at some point the two parts of the program that have a RS-485 to usb stop. This program was working perfectly until I changed the computer. The OS was vista (32 bits) and it is now 7 (64 bits). This is the only thing that has changed.
I also found that if more parts of the program are running this problem appears earlier. It was definitely not issue before since the program could be running for weeks.
    Thanks for your help.

  • MDNSResponder problem / network traffic reduction measures in effect

[Part I in a series of "Why Does My Machine Randomly Shut Down And Related Oddities" :-D ]
Below you can see a bunch of log output which seems to show a network problem. My connection is not too fast, which I've blamed on my low tier of U-Verse, but this makes me wonder. And it seems to occur each wakeup.
"network traffic reduction measures in effect" I've found mentioned as an AirPort problem.
    BUT, my AirPort is OFF.

Is that an actual dump from your logs? If so, I find it strange - not least because the timestamps are not consecutive. That certainly makes it harder to trace what's going on.
Deciphering it as best I can, I'd say you have a flaky network. This could be due to cabling or some process on the machine that's interrupting sleep - I find it strange that many of the mDNSResponder messages are timestamped while the machine is asleep. That could be related to the various wake-on-LAN options - are they enabled in System Preferences -> Energy Saver?

  • Slow Airport Express blinking green - network traffic when all devices off?

My G5 imac and airport express are lightning fast when everything boots up, slow as molasses later. The airport express is 3 feet away from my G5, and hooked up by ethernet to a cable modem.
I've also noticed that my airport express is blinking green, showing network traffic, when both my imac and ipad are turned off - even though I have the airport express set to be hidden, password protected and limited to certain airport IDs. Is it possible that my airport are being hijacked, or is there another reason for the variability in speed? My MacScan and iAntiVirus report no malware or cookies or viruses.
imac intel Mac OS X (10.6.4) airport express 5.5.1

I've also noticed that my airport express is blinking green, showing network traffic, when both my imac and ipad are turned off - even though I have the airport express set to be hidden, password protected and limited to certain airport IDs.
The cable company sends continuous, almost non-stop garbage down the line. The tech guy at the cable company would say that the devices are "associating". That's why you see the green light flashing. You might want to turn off the "flash on activity" option and simply have it glow solid green...unless you like to watch the flashing, or you want to switch to DSL.
Try turning off the anti-virus to see if that helps wireless perform better. Most anti-virus applications do more harm than good. Otherwise, look for wireless interference from another nearby wireless network, cordless phone, or even that new security system at the neighbors.

  • Some keys stopped responding apparently after latest update

    Dear all,
all of the sudden, apparently after the latest update, some keys on my native keyboard stop responding from time to time. Mostly I can verify the problem with the a, s, k and l keys. It seems that pressing the combination ctrl+alt solves the problem for some time.
    What I tried was
    - checking the Activity Monitor for processes that take a large amount of CPU -> no.
    - performing a P-RAM reset -> problem disappeared for an hour or so.
    - safe mode, restore permissions -> did not have any affect at all.
It also seem that the external keyboard works without any problem (bluetooth).
    Any hint or solution?

It's possible your macbook keyboard needs cleaning out. If you eat while using your computer, crumbs could have gotten underneath the keys. You should visit the macbook forums for instructions on keyboard cleaning in case that is the cause of your problems.

  • There's an area on iPad 4 display, where the device stopped responding to my touch.

An area on my iPad (4th gen) stopped responding to my finger touch three days ago. When I type, it multiplies the letters. I can't choose the hidden ones. I use Sketchbook, and in that 1cm wide area, I can't fill up the space with colour, and in games, it's completely deaf. I bought it a month ago. Is it a hardware problem? What should I do? Please, help me! I use the device for education.

    Try This...

  • T61 problem. Display driver igfx has stopped responding and has successfully recovered + BSOD

T61 with Vista Business and intel GM965 video chips.
When playing World of Warcraft the game freezes periodically, the screen goes black and then, usually, it will get back to normal with the message about the display driver having stopped and recovered. Occasionally though it locks up and I get the BSOD and a reboot.
I tried using the latest drivers from Lenovo but it doesn't fix it. I tried uninstalling them and installed the Intel latest drivers as they were a newer release. Again, does not improve anything so I went back to the Lenovo ones for the time being.
I've set the game to the lowest spec video setting possible with lowest resolution possible etc but nothing seems to cure this problem.
Lenovo tech support told me something about timers being out and blamed it on Vista. I've asked for a more detailed, written response but, in the meantime I'd like to ask if anybody has been able to sort this problem out?
Looking online it seems that this is the single most common problem with laptops fitted with GM965 chipset so I'd have thought that between the BIOS and driver writers in Intel, Lenovo and Microsoft somebody could solve this or, at least tell everybody what it is and why it can't be solved so that people looking to play games on a laptop steer clear of this chipset.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I a have solution to a problem that plagues many players!
I too have been having a problem where about three mins after logging into
WoW the screen goes black for 4-5 seconds, and then continues to do so every
    30 seconds or so.
    Here are my system specs.
    GTW GT5412
    OS: Vista Home Premium 32-Bit
    Processor: Intel Core 2 1.80Ghz
    Ram: 2038MB
Video Card: Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family.
I read all over on the internet trying to fix it, and everyone said to
download the 02/04/07 drivers from intel.com but every time I would run the
installer it would tell me they weren't made for my computer.
Here is how I eventually got it to work.
    Step 1:
Download the 02/04/07 drivers from Intel (Version # 15.1) Put them somewhere
    you'll remember. (Desktop)
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Filt...eng&sType=prev
    Step 2:
Go to [Start -> Control Panel -> Security -> Turn automatic updating on or
off (Under Windows Update) -> Select "Check for updates but let me choose
whether to download and install them.
    Step 3:
Go to [Start -> Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Device Manager ->
Tell Vista to Continue -> Display Adapters -> Right-click and uninstall your
    current drivers.
    Step 4:
Restart your computer. When Vista opens you will get a message that it is
    installing "VGA adapter drivers"
    Step 5:
Run "winvista_151" (Driver installer you downloaded earlier)
It should work - and if it comes up with a "Unknown error" than just try
    running the installer again.
It worked without a hitch for me, and for my girlfriend's computer too. Hope
it works for all you guys too!

  • I cleaned whe keys on my macbook and now some keys stopped responding

I did this myself recently while playing around with the settings - go to System Preferences and in there somewhere will be a setting saying - " use all function keys as standard function keys" or something like that. You need to deslect or say "no" and then it will work as it used to!

  • Minidlna Server Stops Responding

minidlna starts up and will serve media OK. However, after a period of time it stops responding - clients can't see the server. Restarting it fixes the problem for a while, until it stops responding again. I have logging turned up to max, but no errors are shown apart from the ones shown below when it first starts up.
    [2013/07/02 10:20:42] minidlna.c:885: warn: Starting MiniDLNA version 1.0.25 [SQLite 3.7.16.2].
    [2013/07/02 10:20:42] minissdp.c:72: error: setsockopt(udp, IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP): Address already in use
[2013/07/02 10:20:42] minissdp.c:122: warn: Failed to add multicast membership for address 192.168.0.66
    [2013/07/02 10:20:42] minidlna.c:991: warn: HTTP listening on port 8200

I had the same issue when I was using a semi-managed network switch, which could understand multicast traffic. It tracked the IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP and IP_DROP_MEMBERSHIP requests, so that multicast traffic would only be sent to those ports, that have joined the multicast group before. The problem was, that there was some kind of timeout after which the switch forgot about the joins, so that the multicast packets weren't sent to any port, because there was seemingly no one listening.
I replaced it with an unmanaged switch that handles multicast packets like broadcast, sends them to all ports and have the clients throw them away, if they are not interested

  • USB Visa driver stops responding

I have currently developed a production test for a USB device but am coming across a very strange bug.  I go through a test sequence via case structure (i.e. Test 1 = Button 1 test, Test 2 = send command to device and read response back, Test 3 = button 2 test, etc).  I send commands through a control transfer and/or read data through report 8.  Also when the button is pressed, I read it through the interrupt endpoint.  I am using a VISA driver for this USB device that I created through the NI-VISA driver wizard.  Of course I open the VISA when I start the test and close the VISA once the test sequnce is completed (whether it passes or fails).
However, I sometimes get a strange issue where the USB device stops responding between test sequences.  For example, test 1 passed but when it gets to test 2, the dongle does not seem to respond to the command and therefore, test fails within a certain amount of time that I specified.  But, if I leave the device plugged in and I restart the test, it will go through the sequence just fine.
I have used a USB sniffer (i.e. CatC) to monitor the USB traffic on the USB line.  When I press buttons, I can see that there is still data transferring wirelessly (this is a wireless joystick) via an LED that blinks on the dongle whenever it recieves data from the joystick, however, I see no USB traffic on the sniffer.  If I leave the dongle plugged in and I simply restart the test sequence, I see USB traffic again.
This is very strange to me and I suspect that Windows is somehow losing the USB dongle and then reenumerating it (but I am not sure).  However, when this is done, the VISA session is now lost in the middle of my test sequences and I cannot recover until I open up the VISA again.  Has anyone ever come across this type of issue before?  It is strange because most of the time it works, but sometimes it does not and it is giving me false failures.  I am not sure if the dongle is "reenumerating" during my test sequence or if some reason, the VISA session is getting lost.

Is it possible that the device is getting reset? I have seen some devices that do no reset themselves correctly and Windows does not detect that they have been reset. The net effect is that the 2-way communication becomes a 1-way pipe. One experiment you can try when you see this happen is to unplug and plug the device back in. If you begin reading data again then Windows and the device are getting out of sync for some reason.

  • FCP7 stops responding

I just restored FCS2 from the Time Machine backup to try to reinstall FCS3. All programs except FCP is working. I did thought not download Soundtrack Pro nor the three Audio Content packages. Would that affect to not be able FCP7, I mean since it's the hub of the studio.
Installation completes successfully. Any body else experiences same problem? FCP6 worked. FCP7 stopped responding.

It's happened to me three of the last four times I tried to download. First two were 'Single of the Week's - both times it appeared to download, but during 'processing' iTunes went Not Responding. When I restarted iTunes, the files were gone. Bought a song after that and everything worked normally. Bought one more and had the same download issue - I've been billed for it, but there's only a temp folder on my hard drive as evidence that I ever got the file; it doesn't show up in my Purchased list nor in Check For Available Downloads. As far as Apple can tell, I bought it - but I never got it!
